I then gathered quotes from roofers (who generally said the roof would last a little longer) and also explored switching insurance after 45 years with State Farm. I had utilized the insurance for collisions and incidents through the years with no issues. Everyone has been helpful and kind, no complaints. He had a minor incident with the snow and a ditch last year and needed to get his car fixed. A handful of months later his premium increased exorbitantly. By $600.00. When I called the office to ask why, they weren't able to give me an answer. The gal said she would look into it and call me back. Never received a call back. Yes, please...let me give the company WAY more money for absolute unknown reasons. Okay. Yeah. Wtf. And wait for a communication that will never be received. Great business model. Decided enough was enough and clearly loyalty means nothing to the company. Ditched them and never looked back. I suppose I am silly for thinking that over 20 years of business would have potentially warranted a call or email to check in after cancelling (or following up to not let it get to that point). Two years ago a drunk driver totaled out car on the drive home from work. We have full coverage and car rental coverage so we knew we'd be fine. The other driver didn't have insurance so we had to pay a $100 deductible for that. A quick call to their 24/7 customer service that night made the process relatively easy. We got a rental and got checked out at a walk in the following morning, all covered by our insurance of course. A week later we were in a new car and just a few weeks after that, we got a check for our car totaled car. Because it was paid off, I was told the process went a lot quicker that it could have. For months, AmFam (corporate) followed up with us which I thought was nice. Do remember that in the state of WA, you don't have to close your claim until THREE years after. Just in case something comes up.
