Steak was fatty, and had a lot of char on it -which I detest; no bourbon on bourbon salmon; white cheddar mac & cheese was flavorless, the sweet tea was really weak; and the baguette of bread for 5 was 6 inches long. Took forever for the bread to be served, and was charged twice as much than was quoted. Was expecting a better experience based off.most reviews. If people think this place has the best steaks, they must have had shoe-leather at other places. read more

This restaurant is lovely! A very cool building with nice decorations. I had the 8oz sirloin with a side of corn and Mac n cheese, everything was delicious. We also tried the cheese curds, onion pedals, sweet potato fries, and seasoned waffle fries and those were very good as well. Service was prompt and everything came out as ordered. We went to J Miller Steak Company, holding to enjoy a good dinner. I ordered 1/2 rack of ribs with a skewer of grilled shrimp. My husband ordered chicken tenders meal. We travel extensively,(49 states in 10 years) and try out non chain restaurants. I Miller would have to be ranked as the worst dinner I have ever had. One bite of the ribs and I was really to bring them back. Horrible is to kind of word for them. I told the waitress that they weren't eatable. She told me I had to pay for them anyway. I fully understand making the customer pay. When you serve food that isn't eatable you probably get lots of compliments. Charging the customer for your kitchen's flops covers their cost. DON'T GO THERE if you're looking for a decent meal. there are plenty of restaurants in the area that serve good food. Don't make a big mistake by going here. Cost us $54 to learn to avoid eating there. Sad when the dog won't even eat it. AVOID THIS PLACE unless you have money to throw away. read more

I've visited this new place in town twice now. Once I was with a party of two and the second time I was with a party of twenty two. After both visits, I must say that I am not very impressed. However, I think that there are changes management can make to greatly improve this restaurant. First, the staff needs to be properly trained on how to serve guests and interact with customers. Many of the employees I spoke with simply didn't have the knowledge necessary to help when needed. Second, the menu item recipes need to be reviewed and altered. Everyone in my group agreed the steaks were chewy, fatty and often undercooked. The mixed vegetables were very bland as well. In terms of what we enjoyed, the mixed drinks were all very good and the atmosphere and restaurant decor is very enjoyable. read more

We really enjoyed our dinner at J.Miller. I had the pork chop, which was on special the night we went, with baked potato and Mac and cheese. Here is where a star was lost. The pork chop had way to much pepper for me and the Mac and cheese could have been a little warmer, but the pork chop was perfectly cooked and very juicy. My wife had the big salad with salmon. Our server did a great job noting my wife's food sensitivities and went the extra mile taking a picture of the ingredients in the salad dressing. The salad came out perfect. And the piece of salmon was HUGE. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, if you like old exposed brick, which I do. And I have to mention the chairs in the dining room. Simple the most comfortable I have ever sat in, in a restaurant. Well padded with an upright back. We have to get back to see the upstairs space. It sounds amazing. Give this place a try. read more

The only reason and i mean only reason i'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 is because our waitress was extremely nice. Other than that i have nothing good to say about the experience. Our table was sticky when we sat down, the place smelled like an ash try. We ordered the fried pickles and potato skins for an appetizer. The potatoes were so cold that the cheese didn't melt. We didn't eat them. The pickles were mushy. The batter was so thick that you couldn't taste the pickle. I got the strip and baked potato. My steak was the toughest and fattest piece of meat I have ever gotten at a steakhouse and again the potato was ice cold. She got the fillet with onions, a baked potato and mac n cheese. Her steak was overcooked, her potato was also cold and the mac n cheese was just so so. I had two beers and she had a sex on the beach. Our total came out to be $140. I won't be back and I don't think you should waste your time. But you never know maybe you'll have a better experience than I did. But I doubt it. read more

Our first time here after driving by many times. The atmosphere was fantastic! The food was cooked to perfection! My filet and my husband had the Aurora strip--best steak we have ever eaten out!! Baked potatoes were soo good, you can eat the skin (Not dried out like some other places). The bread was very good as well! This place is much better than the rated 3.6!! Recommendations (which do not reduce my 5 star rating). have servers or hostess give customers the drink menu when seated (we had to ask for it) and would have rather had a salad for an upcharge from the traditional side list instead of the full charge of that item). I do realize as a business owner times are hard to get staff perfect but these are some simple changes that may help receive more positive reviews. read more

Was traveling through Aurora to Lawrenceburg for girls basketball sectional and looked for a steakhouse in the area and J. Miller came up. It was so good we came back the next night when we came back through for the championship. Really neat old building with a lot of history, built in the 1870s. Seating was very spacious and comfortable. Service was excellent! My sister ordered her steak well done and it could have stayed on the grill a little longer but other than that everything was perfect! read more

The flustered hostess at the front wouldn't honor our reservation, which we even physically presented to her on our phone... the first time was last year and the food was horrible. Been there three times so far and I've nothing to really complain about. The service has always been friendly, food has always been good, and prices are reasonable. I always get the $15 sirloin. No, it's not prime...but it tastes great and they always cook it exactly how I want it. The one time we had an issue (my wife's chicken was way undercooked...it happens), they made things right by making her another, they took it off the bill, and gave us a chocolate lava cake to share. That's the way to do business....taking care of the customer. The place is casual, so leave your suit and tie and sequin dress at home; there's nothing pretentious about it at all. The atmosphere is comfortably laid back, and not uppity in the slightest. To be honest, I prefer it over the incredibly over-priced and snooty 3rd and Main down the street. Exceeded my expectations! The history behind the building ,in this quaint Indiana town of Aurora , is worth the trip to see The dinning room is spacious ,with very comfortable seating . The people were very friendly along with very attentive service. The beer was ice cold and the wIne was pretty good .If it's a good piece of meet it doesn't need seasoning or cream sauces my filet didn't need any of that . A new steak house in town?! -- definitely a must try! Not only was the food delicious, but the staff was overly welcoming. While we did have to wait on a table, the wait was not long. To start, we ordered drinks and an appetizer. Whiskey sour for me and a Busch Lite for my boyfriend. While the appetizer selection wasn't huge, I was thrilled to see that shrimp cocktail was an option. 5+ stars on the shrimp cocktail. The homemade sauce had just enough horseradish. Super yummy! For dinner, my boyfriend ordered the ribeye and I had the filet. Steaks were cooked to perfection! Each meal comes with salad and choice of a side. Salad was good! Baked potato was just alright as there was no additional seasoning added to the skin of the potato. The seasonal vegetable was green beans. I feel like you can't mess up green beans, but they definitely lacked flavor! More salt and pepper please. My boyfriend made a comment that his plate was too small for the size of his steak. I obviously had no complaints as I was eating a petite filet. Lol. Overall though, the experience was wonderful and I can't wait to go back again soon. read more

I hate writing bad reviews but while the restaurant was really cute and looked very nice they did have oil lamps on every table that were cute but put off a pretty potent fume that really bothered my husband and I. Then we got to the food let's start with the good stuff. The salad was amazing and I don't know where they get their ranch but it was fabulous. We also ordered garlic provolone cheese sticks they were ok standard cheese sticks and were really good when paired with some of my left over ranch. I ordered the Oswego ribeye with fries and my husband had the pork chop with Mac and cheese. My steak was extremely tough and almost could t cut it with steak knife. The fries were ok but way better with that excellent ranch. My husbands pork chop was so dry he couldn't really eat it and the Mac and cheese was just ok. I give credit when the waitress saw how much steak I had left on plate they did take off the cheese sticks from bill. We went for Mothers Day. The spicy cheese curd was so good, the coleslaw is fabulous, baked potato was perfection. We had the Tiffany sirloin & the pork chop. The meat was so salty (chunks of salt) it wasn't edible. They redid my steak because it was over cooked (but I left it) Couldn't even bring leftovers home to our dogs because I didn't want them to get sick. The manager took 15% off??? We couldn't even eat the meat! If you go, eat the appetizers but would not recommend anything they have to season. We spent $120 on food we couldn't eat. Was really disappointed in our visit to J Miller. The building is so cool, so much character. It smells amazing from the outside. As soon as we walked in the hosts/waitress went back and forth a few minutes of what waitress not to seat us with. I understand wait staff can be overwhelmed but it was an awkward exchange to have in front of customers. I ordered the ribeye and tried to upgrade my side item to a premium side and they wouldn't let me - even for an up charge. If you are looking for a steak and baked potato be prepared to pay $6 more because you have to add it on. The side salad was also a $6 add on and was so small and basic. They talked about homemade ranch on one of the appetizer descriptions but we received packets of hidden valley instead (if you are a ranch lover this is very sad lol). My ribeye was over cooked (ordered medium rare and it was medium well) and it was quite thin, tasted like a ribeye from Kroger that I make at home, nothing special. No draft beer, bottles only. I just found it really disappointing and I really wanted to love it. read more

She returned to our table & said that the manager replied ( because I had eaten 3 bites) that they could offer a 15% discount or wait 20 minutes for a replacement.
