They were very professional, punctual and prepared a detailed contract including charges, and schedule that fit our need. His crew was extremely polite, experienced, very careful in handling art pieces and worked extra hard to complete the packing and loading ahead of the schedule. I have waited 7 months for Palermo moving to address our issues. They have made it clear that they will not be addressing any of them. They quoted my mother just over $3000 for the packing and moving to her new home approximately 8 miles away. They arrived to pack the day before and never said anything about a change in the quote. They arrived the next day, loaded the truck, moved everything to the new place and unloaded the truck. In the process one of the movers came to us to show that her specialty rhythm animated clock had shattered and was no longer functional. We informed Palermo moving immediately and were told that this would be resolved. After the movers finished, Susan, arrived at the door with a new bill for over $7000!!! MORE THAT DOUBLE THE QUOTE!!! At no point during the packing, loading, or unloading were we given any indication that the price was going to be more than double the quote!!! My mother went ahead and just paid it! They also told us that they would replace the broken clock. However, they never did. First they wanted pictures of the broken clock which we provided promptly. Then we heard nothing. We reached out to them again about the situation and they wanted a receipt for the clock. The clock had been purchased years before and there was no receipt. I provided them with information about the clock and where it can be purchased. The same clock brand new is approximately $625. It was not brand new so we were actually surprised that they initially offered to replace it. As my mother continued to unpack her belongings she found several of my grandmother's irreplaceable china that THEY packed that was damaged! We did not even attempt to ask for anything for those damaged items. So now, 7 months later, they have decided they will do nothing and they will not even speak to us. I just called and politely asked to discuss the situation and Susan rudely quipped, "tell your mother to read her email!! She can call her lawyer!" and hung up on me. If you choose this moving company, I recommend that you make sure your contract states that they inform you of any change in the quoted price or perhaps list a limit that if the price changes more than a certain amount, they need to let you know! Also if you have any precious, specialty items....don't let them move it. Move it yourself if you are able. The drivers and movers were WONDERFUL gentlemen. On August 10th Mr. Palermo gave us a "Guaranteed" estimate of $6,410.00 This afternoon, after I had called to tell them we would not men moving several pieces of furniture we got an updated contract for $9,609.25! They called and told us there had been a "computer problem" and they were sorry about that and they would give us 10% discount. So the then sent us a new contract for 10% off the actual price of $10,115.00 We need to be out of our home in a little more than 10 days. We're looking for another mover. read more

We recently used J. Palermo Moving & Storage for an out-of-state move. I obtained at least 10 quotes, mostly from national movers. J. Palermo claims to be a family-run business, and the initial conversation with office staff seemed personable. Their quote ($6900+) was the 2nd highest that we received, but my main concern was, how much are they going to pad the bill after they've loaded the furniture? -- For 2 weeks, I was back & forth with the office manager, and over that 2 weeks, decided to sell some of my stuff instead of having it moved. I asked her a couple times, if the price would change if we removed some items from the list. I never received an answer on if the price would change if we removed some items from the original list. When I received our quote, the manager ASSURED ME that unless we substantially added more stuff, the price given was a firm price. We've all heard the horror stories about moving companies loading your furniture onto the truck, then jacking the price up when the consumer is over a barrel. I took a chance with J. Palermo because I HOPED they, as my hometown, family-run business wouldn't do that. You would THINK $6900+ would be enough for these people? -- Come moving day, I had removed a loveseat sofa, a glass TV stand, a roll-top desk, and my girlfriend removed 2 tables, all heavy items. That's a substantial amount less than what we originally listed. We did add some extra wall photos, and they claimed we added more boxes, which my girlfriend denies, BUT, even if we did add a few more items, we removed WAY MORE stuff than what we originally gave them. -- Once our furniture was on the truck, sure as heck, here comes the phone call from the office. J. Palermo Moving was nice enough to give us use of a dedicated truck, which was less than 3/4 full. We were already being allowed use of 1 exclusive truck. What difference would it have made if we added some small extra stuff? We were hoping they wouldn't pull the bait-n-switch pricing scheme that so many movers are notorious for? NOPE! They wanted another $657 from us! Are you freakin' kidding me?! That's almost another 10% added to the original quote. -- There's NO way in heck that the difference between what we subtracted from the load, to what they added, should've added up to another $657 in charges! -- To the credit of J. Palermo Moving, they did give us use of 1 truck, and 1 employee (they promised 2 employees, but claimed that 1 got sick). The company employees, the office manager and even the owner himself seemed pleasant to deal with. However, padding our bill at the last minute by an additional 10% was uncalled for. I chose J. Palermo because I hoped that being the local, family-owned business would mean they wouldn't bend-over their local customers like they did. That makes J. Palermo Moving & Storage only average in my opinion. The move itself went well. The employees were nice and cordial, but It's a shame that a supposedly well-run company has to extract hundreds of dollars more from customers, when we were already paying on the high end of all the quotes received! read more

Can't believe this guy. His arrogance is beyond belief. He is storing furniture at his place of business, from a move he performed for a friend...I purchased a loveseat and sofa from that friend. I asked JOE PALERMO (owner) what he would charge to bring the 2 pieces from his business, to my Bradenton home ( 10 miles)...told him no rush, when he has a truck going that way, would be fine. He quotes me $ 250. I said nevermind, I would make other arrangements. Went there today with a friend who owns a lanscaping business to pick the 2 pieces up. He had an attitude from the onset..He said "I'll be the J***off, I'll bring it to your truck. Then I asked for a packing blanket ( for which the prior owner had surely paid for), and he said NO...guess he wants to use it again and charge the next person the 8 bucks. But the wonderful team at Palermo REALLY made it a lot easier! quote was very fair and turned around very quickly, and they are super professional. My move was long haul to altanta, and they were actually recommended to me by two other moving companies that can only do in-state moves. pick up and drop off were prompt, and everything arrived in excellent shape. Amazing experience! They say the three most stressful life experiences are Death, Divorce and Moving. Well - based on my recent experience with J. Palermo Moving and Storage, MOVING doesn't need to be in the category with death and divorce! I guess it depends on who you choose to do your moving. I conducted a fairly in-depth search to find someone I would trust to move my small household including three large, heavy, valuable items. J. Palermo was actually referred to me by another mover who had agreed to handle my load but who felt that Palermo would be a better choice. (A movers' choice of mover!) Interesting. I have moved several times in my life (and hope this is the last time) so I've had some experience. I can honestly say that this time was simply the best. Mr. Palermo and his crew showed up on time and worked like Trojans to pack and load their truck. There ended up to be few pieces to move that we had not included in the original packing list - no problem. The crew just added them to the load. Our move was a bit complicated because we needed items delivered to two houses - again, no problem. Everything was efficiently unloaded, unpacked and put back together quickly. Everything was cleaned up, the final bill presented and our move was over - without any tears, any breakage, or problems. I almost hope I can move again just so I can use J. Palermo again.
