Dr. Mendius has been my neurologist for over 10 years now. He is smart, caring and takes good care of his patients. I was his patient in the Greenbrae location and even though I'm closer to this area.. I drive up to Santa Rosa to see him now. It's hard when you find one of the best doctors, you can't really just move to another. His staff is also spectacular! Their customer service is on point, they follow through every time. We saw this doctor in the emergency room in 2015. My daughter was admitted into intensive care and she was intubated. Once she came out of the medically induced coma she was very combative. Doctor Mendius came in the room and said she needed a psychiatrist and not a neurologist. We have then since gone to Kaiser. My daughter has severe epilepsy. She had surgery and now has a neuro pace. No thanks to you or any care that she got from you. As a neurologist you should have been able to diagnose her epilepsy. Your only assumption of her was that she needed a psychiatrist. You asked over and over what drugs she was on. She was on no drugs at all. She's a good girl with epilepsy. If I could give you less than one star I would. read more

My wife just went and saw this guy. He walked in, said "I read your novel of a file. What do you want me to F****ng do for you?!. He then proceeded to tell her there was nothing he could f****ng for her and continued to swear at her and insult her, never doing anything that even remotely helped or resembled professional treatment of a patient. I was so moved by his appalling behavior, I went in to complain. While there, another woman stated he treaded her and her husband the same way. What a disgrace. Dr. Mendius is the best doctor on earth. He is compassionate, a brainiac, easy to talk to, well, the best. He has helped me for over 20 years. He also helped a dear friend who was not believed by Dr. Duncan. He was not signing off for her to get SSI, when she was struggling with walking, using her arms, exhausted and losing motor control. I suggested seeing Dr. M, and he actually listened to her. He helped her, referred her to UCSF and has seen her monthly for about 15 years now. She has since Dr. Duncan been diagnosed as having distonia, is in so much pain, has had to quit a wonderful job at Charles Schulz', and go on disability. She had not been faking it as her former neurologist suspected. Because of his empathy, warm personality and expertise, he has helped her so very much. Me too, ditto. read more

I do Not recommend Dr. Mendius. He has a split personality. 2019 he referred me to a neuropsychologist for learning disability testing. I terminated and reported this doctor due to misdiagnosis and lies to gain more money from Medicare. Mendius went along with this doctor, and when I questioned him, he became condescending, dismissive, and stomping out of the room. He acted like a spoiled brat. He did me a disservice by refusing to go over the disability test with me and said, your brain is too disabled for brain training; anyway, " you will never work again" I was taken aback due to his unprofessional and disrespectful behavior. Unfortunately, I trusted him for 10 years. He is not the caring, intelligent doctor that many people see; I will never trust him again or anyone he recommends because I know they will have a shady business practice. I have been a patient of Dr.Mendius for FAR TOO MANY years! I have been so greatful for his perspectives, time, attention, and how he respects each patient. However, since his assistant Diana left, Stacey, his new Nurse/Assistant (whatever she is) has created more problems and challenges than I could have ever imagined. She is lazy when it comes to obtaining timely pre-auth's- often having to cancel a patients's appointment that took over a month and a half to get because Dr.Mendius is soooo busy. Then, Stacey goes ahead and blames the cancellation as a "no-show"- I have three this year alone- one is due to her and the other to last minute phone calls alerting me at the 11th hour that I need to reschedule because Dr. Mendius is out of town. Stacey never returns calls, fails to give Dr.Mendius messages, and forgets to call in new prescriptions after an appointment. It is painful. My good friend drives down over an hour to see Dr.Mendius and lost her health insurance coverage for 5 months. After 10 years, the front staff notified her right before a massive neurosurgery that the practice was letting her go. No proper letter, nothing! Save yourself a migraine and don't get involved with this horrid Sutter affiliation. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Mendius. He helped me with my chronic Migraines and Fibromyalgia when no one else could. If you have to wait because he is so busy, it is worth it. He is so intelligent and doesn't waste time. Because of him, my Social Security Disability Decision was successful. My Father is seeing him for dementia. Let me just forewarn you... seeing ANY neurologist in Sonoma County is at least a 2 month wait... if not longer. This was a little shocking to me, and if time was of the essence, I definitely would have driven to the Bay Area for a sooner appointment. Thankfully time was on my side, therefore I had the option of waiting... which wasn't by any means... easy. Even when I booked an appointment with two neurologists, BOTH physicians schedulers called me because the doctors were going to be out of town those days... and regardless of my appointment being previously scheduled... months earlier... I still only got the "next available"- which was kinda a put off. That being said... Dr. Mendius was recommended by two of my primary physicians- which tells me that he's well established in the Santa Rosa area. Which... in and of itself- kinda only tells me that he's been here the longest- unless you look at his work history, and credentials (All available online). Dr. Mendius is very knowledgeable, he's got a good bedside manner, and he explains the processes to you, or diagnosis. In fact... he's great at personally handing you a packet to read- that explains health issues you may have, and/or treatment. (Not all specialists do this)... The staff are friendly, although it's a long process to get ahold of them on the phone, to leave a message, ask a question and whatnot... and their follow through with labs and/or procedures is actually- poor. read more

PLEASE do not see Dr. Mendius. I saw him last year with distinct but unusual symptoms. Within 5 minutes (and I'm not exaggerating), he diagnosed me as having a conversion disorder. He was dismissive and flippant. I have since discovered that I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (recently renamed as Systemic exertion intolerance disease), which has progressed to the point where I am housebound. There is another doctor there whom you will not want to see either. I'm forgetting her name now, but she is a youngish, unpleasant woman fresh our of school. Not only is she rude, she does not take into account the multi-symptomatic nature of an illness. This is mandatory for a doctor to do in order to be able to diagnose illnesses such as CFS and fibromyalgia. I tried three times to contact the manager of the Neurology department. She has not once returned my calls or messages. If you have unusual symptoms that include strange nerve pain and unusual fatigue, I suggest you check out the SEID diagnostic criteria: http://solvecfs.org/international-consensus-criteria-published-for-myalgic-encephalomyelitis/ It is flawed because people with CFS or SEID also exhibit other symptoms. I like Dr Mendius. . I feel he leans a bit conservative in his approach, but this may be b/c of my condition personally (its not chronic so he doesnt want to try too much experimental stuff meant for more severe cases I guess, I get it, but,..,.) I am still dealing with migraines but not as bad. I find appts are much easier if I bring a log of headaches, meds I'm taking or have tried as well as any Qs or requests I have already prepared. Wonderful doctor- very pleasant personality, knows his field well. He promptly helped me get diagnosed . I've been having symptoms for over a year before I went to see Dr Mendius, He ordered all the tests needed to finally figure out what was goin on. (3 mini strokes) He then proceeded to give me the medicines I needed to help me. I am slowly starting to feel better. Honestly For a while prior to seeing him, i thought I was one of those mystery patients, that no one could figure out what was going on.I was becoming very depressed and frustrated to say the least. I have read several of the reviews for this doctor. I really do believe his bedside manner sucks!! He was so condescending when addressing you, that you want to run from the room. He may be a very knowledgeable doctor, but he never let me ask any questions, did not ask me any questions and rushed me right out of the room, telling me I can tell all my doctors "to go to hell" and maybe I would feel better. I'm giving Dr. Mendius 2 stars, because, to his credit he does seem knowledgeable, and I'm sure that there are patients he has properly diagnosed and treated. If I had written this review after my first appointment with him, I probably would have said similar things to what H.G. did. However, that said, I hope never to see him again, and really would not recommend him, unless one is prepared to deal with a Dr. Mendius/Mr. Hyde situation. BTW, my ultimate diagnosis was Lyme Disease, which many doctors fail to recognize or treat, so Dr. Mendius is not alone in treating me in a condescending, dismissive manner as a psych case, despite numerous debilitating and frightening neurologic symptoms. He may be a "smartie", but I rate him less than zero for his bedside manner. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Mendius for over 15 years now and he was the only one that was able to diagnose my problem, and help me through it. I have a grade 10 chronic pain. But I have a very high pain tolerance, so don't feel the pain till it is already to late. Also a herniated disc in my neck, doctors in my town told me to take an aspirin and go home. Dr. Mendius, listen to me, and let me explain my situation and found out what the problem was. He is the best. Would recommend him to everyone. Yes he is busy and sometimes runs a little late, but well worth it. You will not be disappointed .I travel 3 hours just to see him. Very easy to speak to. read more

I am suffering from debilitating pain diagnosed by my primary Dr. as peripheral neuropathy and was referred to this Dr. As we all know Dr's document info into the computer, Mendius offers very little eye contact. I sat there crying out in pain and frustration yet he does not show empathy nor take his eyes off the computer. He walks away, returns with a one inch print out which on the front page I can see it's about peripheral neuropathy. He does not explain what the contents of the printout contains or give me any verbal information. He writes a prescription for pain. And he's gone without a word. I begin to have horrific side effects, I call his office and wait for his return call. After explaining my side effects, he said "you have to be brave and take the med". I was sick for a month with the side effects. My next visit, he agreed to quit the Cymbalta med. Again, his method of operation is to type away without eye contact, lack of empathy for my pain and condition. He offers no explanation, the only thing he knows to do is down load printouts. Is this laziness? yes. But's its greater than that, he lacks the human kindness and compassion. There are plenty of other neurologists in this city. I will advise my primary Dr. not to refer to this cold blooded Dr. that show's up only for the money. And I will do my part and research the doctor and not just go there because I have been referred there by a doctor. Sometimes, they are all scratching each other's back, it's a game they play at our expense, at our governments expense and our health is the biggest victim. Don't go to this guy read more
