I recently visited this spa and had a bit of a mixed experience. The massage itself was excellent, my therapist did a great job and I left feeling relaxed and physically much better, which is ultimately the most important part of the visit. Hence the four stars. However, the front office and overall check-in/check-out process felt rushed and somewhat unorganized. I was asked to arrive early, but when I got there there were no intake forms to complete. There was a tablet displayed for sign-in, but instead of using it I was asked for my name and then told to manually sign in on a clipboard. The process just felt a bit inconsistent. I may be mentally comparing it to other wellness spas I've visited, but the communication around the membership also wasn't very proactive. When I initially called to start the membership, not much information was shared about pricing or the process. After my appointment, I noticed another tablet displaying total charges that were much higher than what I expected. I was told to disregard those numbers with no explanation of the additional cost verbally requested until I asked. I mentioned that I had a membership, but I was still initially charged the higher rate. Additionally, there wasn't an offer to help schedule my next appointment, which I've typically experienced at other similar businesses. That said, the quality of the massage was great, so I'm willing to give this location another try. It was also a Saturday, so perhaps they were busier than usual. I'm hopeful the front desk experience will feel a bit smoother next time before I decide whether to switch locations. read more

I'm honestly not sure how to rate this experience because it was so divided between exceptional service and a disappointing overall impression. I had my facial with Devia, and she was absolutely wonderful. She was attentive, knowledgeable, caring, and provided one of the best services I've received in quite some time. Her professionalism and kindness made the experience enjoyable, and she is truly an asset to your team. Unfortunately, the experience took a turn at the end of my appointment. As I got dressed and prepared to leave, I noticed a dead roach near the edge of the treatment bed. I understand that living in Florida means insects can occasionally find their way inside businesses and homes alike. What was more concerning to me was not the insect itself, but the response I received when I discreetly mentioned it to the receptionist during checkout, waiting until no other guests were around out of consideration for the business. The response was, "Well, at least we know the spray is working. Sorry, I'll clean that up." The lack of sincerity, concern, or accountability was disappointing, especially considering this was my first visit and an expensive service. A more empathetic response or even a brief explanation would have gone a long way toward making the situation feel acknowledged and handled professionally. Because of how wonderful Devia was, I genuinely feel bad leaving this review. She provided an outstanding service experience. Let me start by saying I love J Sterling's as a company! I frequent the Winter Park location which is amazing however, I booked an appt at the Clermont location for the first time due to all other locations being fully booked for the date I needed. BIGGEST REGRET. This was the worst experience I've ever had. The receptionist was lovely but after that it was downhill. I booked a couples massage for my husband and I. He had K. Devia and I had J. Will. Once they asked about our problem areas and stepped out, we both could hear them talking right outside the door about us. Devia said they were going to "really have to put in work today", Will replied but I didnt hear what he said then Devia said "what are you going to do?". Now I won't deny, my husband is husky and I am heavier but neither of us are obese and we both have very good personal hygiene. Aside from that, neither of these masseuses were any smaller than us so #1 they had no room to talk and #2 that is extremely unacceptable behavior anyways! Devia then told my husband "I gotta put gloves on because the hair tickles my hands." Just put on gloves, you don't have to announce it and make him feel embarrassed about totally normal men's hair. Weird. I will mention, my husband did say she gave a great massage. Will sounded like he was dying of an allergy attack the entire time he was massaging me. As mentioned, I have very good hygiene, I showered before arriving, clothes were straight out of the dryer, hair was washed, deodorant, spritz of B&BW spray. The ONLY thing I can think of is maybe he has an allergy to dogs because I do have 3 large dogs but then say something or switch out therapists. I would never want my masseuse to be uncomfortable and I felt horrible for him. It made me feel insecure which should never happen in a setting where you are paying to relax. The whole experience was so unprofessional and made us feel some type of way. I came to relax and get relief from my neck pain yet I left more tense than I arrived. Mind you, we still tipped 27% because they "put in the work". This location needs to do better. read more

I've been going to J Sterling's in Clermont since they opened. I have had nothing but good experiences. I find the atmosphere calming, and the staff is professional. The receptionists are friendly and often greet me by name, which makes it feel welcoming. I've had massages from several therapists there, but Rosanna is my favorite -- she has a great sense for finding tight spots and always checks on the pressure. I've also had facials with Makenzie, who is very knowledgeable and makes the experience relaxing and refreshing. Was super excited to book a mini spa day for this upcoming week. I received a call stating that the massage therapist I selected was no longer available. After a text exchange I called reception to let them know that my priority appointment was a facial with sian. After a long pause the receptionist let me know that she could no longer book me with sian at all because she refused service. A little shocked because I'm not a regular client and haven't seen sian in years. I asked why i was on a refusal list, but was told they couldn't tell me. I asked if I could receive a call back from a manager and was told no, I'd have to email a manager mailbox. I let reception know I'm not interested in having to chase a manager down and would like someone to reach out to me instead. "I can leave them a note but that's not their preferred way to do it" Personally im uncomfortable going to a place where im on a refusal list but no one can tell me why. I went in for a microneedling session I had scheduled a week prior and was told when I arrived that they no longer offer microneedling but would I like to try the nanoneedling. I opted to give it a try and the nano pen wouldn't stay charged. The tech kept trying to get it to charge but was unsuccessful. The manager, Bailey, didn't seem to concerned with the issues. I called Monday to speak with Bailey and she informed me that I could write to the owner, Max, but he usually doesn't respond. My concern also was that I received an emailed receipt for services I didn't receive as they had my CC on file from the deposit that was required. We supposedly had a couple's massage at the Clermont location today, but it was totally ruined by 2 things: 1st the therapist Devia Harrell totally uncovered the butt (buttocks) of my man with the sheet, and without exaggeration , she spent at least half the time rubbing his butt in a very sensual way. She was looking either looking at the ceiling or at his butt while making sounds like she was having sexual sensations while doing so. At some point, she rubbed her arm on his butt instead of the palm of her hand. She did not use her fingers, mostly her entire hand, the middle of her palm, like when you're making out. The session became highly disturbing. I don't suggest any couple to have that lady massage their man because she's obviously very desperate and is sexually provoking men instead of massaging them professionally. The 2nd issue was how loud and aggressive the receptionist was. I wanted to leave a tip for my therapist because what happened wasn't her fault. she was actually professional but I didn't want to leave a tip for Devia so I didn't enable her disrespect but there were people in line behind me, I needed privacy. I wrote how much tip I wanted to give to my therapist and wrote no tip for Devia. To be mean, the receptionist read loudly what I wrote. What was the point of me writing the amount? I could be loud about my experience but me wanting to be discreet about it, upset the receptionist that why she intentionally read aloud the tup amounts knowing that I wrote them down because I didn't want the people behind to hear. In addition to Devia being highly unprofessional, the receptionist couldn't care less about clients' choice for privacy. the amount of tip I leave is not the business of other clients. Her reading the amounts as loudly as she could to make me feel writing them wouldn't give me privacy was another reason today's visit was a total disaster. I don't recall previous front desk personnel being so thoughtless. That lady should be replaced for having no common sense and for not caring about clients. Does she realize the clients are the reason she has a job? Both Devia and the front desk personnel should be replaced by more professional staff. I've been using that facility for at least 4 years, I have never encountered similar issues. read more

Still No Response I'm updating my review because, despite filing a complaint over two weeks ago, I have yet to receive any response from management or the owners--Matt, Max, or Tina Thacker. I even left a message with Bailey, the current manager, but still haven't received so much as an apology or acknowledgment of my concerns. I came to J. Sterling's expecting a relaxing and professional experience. Instead, I left with literal burn marks on my back from the massage. The therapist wore gloves--which I understand might be for hygiene--but the pressure she used was excessive and painful. I asked her to apply more lotion to ease the discomfort, but instead of addressing the issue, she told me my skin was "super dry and hydrated" and continued using the same rough technique. The room itself was not up to standard either. There were empty bottles of lotion and oil, and a noticeable unpleasant odor, barely masked by lavender scent. This doesn't feel like a clean or welcoming environment. To be clear, I'm not placing all the blame on the therapist--she may be new and still learning. My biggest issue is with the establishment's complete lack of professionalism and follow-through. They have ignored both my online complaint and voicemail, and that kind of neglect is unacceptable. I never imagined I'd have to say this, but I can no longer recommend this place to anyone. Their disregard for customer care and well-being speaks volumes. I'll be posting pictures of the burns I received, not to be vindictive, but to warn others. This experience has been beyond disappointing--it's been painful, both physically and emotionally. This was my first time there. BIG MISTAKE!!! I decided to get a combo deep/Swedish massage to relieve the usual back/neck tension. I did not request a specific massage therapist, and I ended up with one their female therapists, Karina, who seemed nice. However, she did A LOT more harm than good. The next day I woke up in horrible pain in my upper back and traps. I looked in a mirror horrified to see that I not only had some bruising but some swelling as well. It got worse to the point that I could not touch the right side of my traps/back at all, could not sleep on that side, could not lean back on the couch... Over the next few days the throbbing intensified to the point that I had to go to my physician who confirmed a hematoma. I am still bruised and tender 12 days later. This is not my first deep tissue massage, and that has never happened before. After emailing management, I just received a phone call from them. They clearly stated they cannot do anything based on my "allegations." I offered to send them pictures, but claimed it could have been the result of something else. Basically calling me a liar. Also, my breast was exposed a couple of times during the stretches she did, which made me feel uncomfortable. I sincerely regret ever stepping foot in that place. AVOID AT ALL COST! read more

I had high hopes for J Sterling Spa, but it quickly turned into a frustrating ordeal. Before booking my 1st lymphatic massage, I specifically called to ask if they could accommodate clients with post-op drains. I was told Karina was the only one who could perform lymphatic massages with drains & made an appointment for that evening. I was pleased to find someone in Clermont who could help me, and I proceeded to book 9 more sessions over the next three weeks. However, everything fell apart during my apptmnt on Oct 4. I arrived & waited 10 minutes, only to be told by Jenny that they couldn't give me a massage due to my drain, despite having received 7 previous treatments w/o issue. I was told the front desk staff needed *retraining* & that I shouldn't have been allowed the previous sessions. This lack of communication is unacceptable, especially since I wasn't given any advance notice. I ended up canceling my next two appointments out of frustration and disappointment. As for KARINA, she presented herself as highly capable and experienced in post-surgery care. Her extensive background in treating patients recovering from surgery gave me confidence in her abilities & I appreciated her clear guidelines on what to do and to avoid for optimal recovery. She emphasized that she specialized in lymphatic massage, claiming her training surpassed that of the other therapists. Throughout our sessions, I benefited from her advice & even tried the ultrasonic therapy she offered, although it came at an additional cost since it was not a service offered by the spa directly. However, her demeanor changed dramatically when I opted to follow my surgeon's advice instead of hers. Instead of collaborating on my care, she reprimanded me for this decision, expressing disappointment & implying that I was hindering my recovery. This interaction left me feeling chastened and prompted me to consult my surgeon for a 2nd opinion. After discussions with the surgeon's office, the plan was to find a higher-quality compression garment (as Karina had suggested), continuing with the lymphatic massages, but no removal of the drain. At my next appointment, I noticed a significant change in Karina's demeanor; she was noticeably brisk and offered no verbal support or feedback. Her frustration with the delay in removing my drain was palpable, which made the environment feel tense and unwelcoming. Two days after this interaction, I was informed by Jenny that the spa could no longer help me. While Karina seems knowledgeable & has valuable skills, her lack of professionalism when faced with differing opinions left much to be desired. It's crucial for any therapist to support their clients' decisions & collaborate effectively with medical professionals, which I unfortunately did not experience in my time with her. Overall, my experience at J Sterling Spa has been deeply disappointing. The lack of proper communication and support from both the staff and my therapist has led me to seek care elsewhere. I cannot recommend this spa to anyone in need of a reliable and compassionate post-operative massage experience. read more

Ny mom, daughter, and I have been going to Sterlings Clermont for 10 yrs, It abruptly really went down in quality. The front desk staff person was quite loud and abrasive. They didn't offer water or restroom. They made an error in our order despite my showing her the exact text reply confirmation and also showing her the receipt and details of the purchase right on my app. They denied the service I had ordered and MADE ME PAY AN EXTRA $25 FEE. I wrote an email to send to the owner as I had met her before and she was wonderful, but all I got was a curt reply from the manager. I was devastated, as I had brought my mom there for a special treat before I left to go back home the next day and she wasn't able to receive her service. The worst was the discourtesy in how the front desk manager handled the situation. The previous front desk person was a gem. SO VERY DISAPPOINTING. read more

As you walk in the business, you see, "Relax. You're at J Sterlings." Well, that was the opposite of our experience. We previously had a couple's massage a week ago that was enjoyable. When paying, the owner set us up with massages for today and we also booked facials with their package deal. We were all set to go! Or so we thought. We showed up for our scheduled appointments to find that they had only booked a massage and facial for one. Ok, things happen. It was disappointing but we can't change the fact that they didn't have anyone available to fulfill appointments for both. We went through all kinds of scenarios. We just didn't want it at this point. The receptionist had to call the owner to get permission to not charge a cancellation fee. For their screw-up. First huh? We really wanted massages and ended up booking them for this Friday. We ended up being able to wait around for facials an hour later today for both of us. I was still annoyed but my sweet fiancé was really looking forward to this so I went along with it. We are there waiting the hour for the facial appointments and the receptionist tells us - "By the way, I just wanted to make sure you knew that on Friday and Saturday, it will be $20 more for your massages." Um... second huh? So let me understand this... they screw up, we are inconvenienced twice, we have to move to another day and they don't want to honor the original price... The only reason we had to shift days was because of their error. Sigh... yet another business failing to put the customer first. Probably wasn't a good idea for them to have me sit with my computer while waiting. Update: After posting my review, both the manager and owner showed up at the business. Both were very apologetic about the string of mishaps and assured me that this was definitely not the normal. They both went out of their way to make sure that we were satisfied. Our check in was smooth thanks to Brenna she's is very polite, friendly which sets the tone for relaxation. Thanks to Chris and Jeanine our therapist made our message worth every penny. I had a deep tissue with sugar foot scrub and the wife had relaxation with hot stones. Will return but will see if they offer a sports message. Started out great, was deep tissue which I have had many of. Been about a month since my last massage. Was in bike accident 4 months before and had muscle damage to left shoulder, which was where I wanted him to focus on. I was moving around during session to relax my back and shoulder muscle's because of the popping of my muscles by pulling my elbows and arms outward and stretching legs outward some keeping them close to platform. After about 30 minutes I was told to quit moving or he would have to end the session. I have never in my life be told to quit moving during a massage session. As the intensity of the massage was increasing which I needed, I really needed to move but because of what I was told I did not. Could not handle not moving anymore, told him and left. read more

Came here about a year ago for a couples massage and had great service. My husband just booked another one and it was the terrible for so many reasons. We got the first appointment of the day, 9:00am, and was told to get there 10 minutes early. We showed up promptly at 8:50am. We signed in and were told we would be seen shortly. At around 8:55, the receptionist took a call in which I heard her state "oh yeah, it's fine, okay, 15 minutes, no problem" and went about her work. A few minutes later, she leaned over and asked if it was okay if we started late because one of the employees was running 15 minutes late. So I said, "okay I guess, I mean there's no other option right?" We then proceeded to wait and at 9:09am, they finally called us in. For the actual massage: male was great, the female was average. At 9:53am, they said our service was done. Yes, literally an hour session was done EARLY when they even started extremely late. As if that wasn't enough, when we were changing to leave someone walked in and said "oh oh sorry oops" after about 5 seconds of staring at me while I was topless. Absolutely uncalled for! When we went to check out at 9:57am, the receptionist asked how everything was and I told her the situation. She was going to charge us full for a 44 minute service.... and then offer an enhancement on our next service since we weren't satisfied. I didn't know what she was talking about regarding "an enhancement" and she said it is a scrub... as if we would be coming back. She then said she could give us $10 off (the entire service, not per person). All in all, a terrible experience and we will not be returning ever again. We were the last ones in the waiting room to go in for a 9:00 appointment and the first ones to leave... how is that okay?! It's ridiculous and a waste of time and money. You shouldn't be more stressed walking out of a spa than when you got there. I highly recommend taking your business elsewhere. read more

booked an 80 minute combination relaxation/deep tissue massage. I'd like to preface my complaint by sharing that I'm not typically one to complain like this, I believe in constructive criticism in unsatisfying situations, but in this case I really feel that I've received very poor service. When entering the room, the masseuse asked me if I had any focus areas, to which I replied along my scapula. She promptly left, never asking if there were areas that I don't like attention paid to, which typically I'm asked prior to a massage. Upon starting the massage I immediately noticed the excessive amount of lotion/oil she was using. In the dozens of massages I've recieved, I've never had anyone use so much lotion. It really didn't allow for any friction or depth of pressure to be applied to my muscles. She started on my back and the pressure was light, but I assumed we were just getting warmed up and pressure would increase. When she got to my problem area and I realized she was not doing any deep tissue massage, I requested that she use a firmer pressure. She agreed but the pressure never changed, even with an additional request after that. If I were to describe this massage in 1 sentence, I'd say that I spent 80 dollars to be slathered in lotion for 80 minutes. After flipping over, I honestly wondered to myself if she was really truly licensed. There was no real focus on any muscle direction, no use of thumbs or knuckles, just constant flat palmed lotion application. I'm used to being stretched and having some releasing techniques done during my massage,but she took my ankles on a few occasions and just strangely pulled my legs from side to side. I left my massage with lower back pain (and unfortunately not the good kind you have after a deep massage, but more of an achy pinching feeling). I didn't even have any pain prior to coming in for the massage, just a tightness in my upper back that needed some attention. I left in pain. Upon leaving, the receptionist asked how my message was, I answered honestly stating it was the worst I've ever had. I requested management's contact email and asked the name of the masseuse as she never introduced herself upon meeting. At that time I was given a generic email which I reached out to with no reply. I called the next day and was told this location is the smallest so they don't have a manager and would reach out to someone covering. I never received a call or response. Upon further review on Jsterlings website it turns out that they don't respond to complaints about their masseuses as they are independent contractors. So even though i tried to address the poor massage with my masseuse twice during the session, there's ultimately no management customer service that this company can provide. read more

Where to start. I have no words. I didn't even make it through a service with this group. After making a reservation online I showed up for my scheduled service. I was taken back, told to get ready for my service and then promptly told that they didn't have me on their reservation system. I was then told they couldn't complete the service. I got dressed and went out to the lobby where I provided a screenshot of my reservation. I wasn't happy with the situation, but left and moved on. If only that's where it ended. I then spent the evening getting text message after text message from a staff member. They were unhappy with the review I gave them on another site outlining the poor experience. They then spent message after message owning NOTHING of the error, blaming me for the reservation not coming through. Here are the facts- I booked online. I provided them with the information I was given. Their online system even required I enter my credit card number, WHICH I DID. Their system obviously didn't process the request. Fine. I didn't like it, but whatever. Things happen. Instead of apologizing and moving on, they sent message after message harassing me with screenshots pointing out my error. I repeatedly asked them to discontinue messaging me, but they refused. I will gladly share the entire exchange with anyone that requests it. I NEVER complain about businesses, but this takes the cake. This has been the most unprofessional experience I have ever had with a spa service, ANYWHERE, much less Clermont. I was skeptical at first because the prices were so low... but TJ was mytherapist and he did a great job! I'm not usually comfortable with male therapists but he was so professional, knowledgeable and put me at ease. The glute compressions were very nice and he unlocked my shoulder really well. I feel so renewed. I wish that the receptionist or the website mentioned something about appropriate tipping in advance so I could have prepared. I saw it as I was leaving and will definitely come prepared with something more substantial next time. I am a massage therapist and at our clinic we discourage tipping so it's completely new to me. STAY AWAY!!!! On March 27th I went to see Victoria I wanted a mix of deep tissue and relaxation. Immediately she started pushing immense pressure in pressure points to where I was actually pulling away from her and telling her to stop and writhing in pain. She would jab her elbow in muscles and wouldn't let up even when requested to. She just laughed and said it's going to hurt. I have never been in so much pain. I was asking her to stop every few minutes. Then at one point she asked if I had any childhood trauma because I was so tense. I was speechless by such an awful question. That is so very unprofessional and boarderline illegal!!! I was so taken back by this question and immediately was upset. At the end she asked if I bruised easily and she said I was probably going to bruise. I talked to 2 friends who work in the industry and physical therapy and said that should NOT happen or be asked and that if she's asking that it means she's doing something wrong. I now have bruising all over my body. Which I have pictures of as well. At the end the receptionist tried to charge me for full amount (which I see has happened to others on Groupon) until I said I already paid for it. Then she said Groupon only covers certain amount (which isn't true). After a few min of arguing she said oh wait I had the wrong patient pulled up. When asked at the reception desk how much I wanted to leave as tip I said I wanted to tip the facial but not massage. She then asked me 2 times how much I wanted to tip the massage therapist. I kept saying that's it. I called the following day actually requesting my money back just for the massage portion of my visit. The man manager laughed and said they can give me a free (5 dollar upgrade next time) I argued and said I don't want to come back and I was still in pain from this visit. The manager swore at at me and said they don't give money back because they are independent contractors. I said that's a bad policy and tried to explain my story and he literally said he doesn't care and that I was a bad customer. I really wish I had recorded it because he called me a Faggot as well, I have never been called that before and I was very angry. I'm looking into legal action. read more

I have been here several times for massages and Brazilians. We were given one price for a couples massage and another after the massage was complete. The difference in price was $100 in their favor and not open for discussion after the services were rendered. The Brazilian was not quite as thorough as I would have liked. I have given this spa three try's with the Brazilian assuming it was a "fluke" but if I walk away unsatisfied 3 times I will have to take my business elsewhere. I had been going to this location for several years and the service has always been hit and miss. Either a great massage or a terrible one and the same with facials. It didn't matter too much as they were only $35 each to start with but now the prices are the same as places like hand and stone it wasn't worth it anymore for subpar service. The last one we did was a couples massage, neither of us were happy. My massage therapist was so poorly trained she might as well have been running her finger tips over me the whole time. It didn't matter when I asked for firmer. If my partner hadn't been getting massaged at the same time I would have asked for it to be stopped. I was literally counting down the minutes for it to end. I let the reception know and they told me they had complaints about her the previous day as well... I tipped minimum but didn't feel comfortable not tipping at all due to the way the industry feels with tipping right now. The receptionist told me to explain it in a survey and someone would follow up so I did on the drive home. This was a month ago and haven't heard from anyone. It was so bad I honestly expected at least half a refund and to have no follow up was poor. I booked a massage elsewhere on the drive home for my next day off and signed up to their membership so won't return to here again. To their credit it was always clean but you definitely knew you weren't at a super nice spa location. read more
