Poor customer service. I called this "tailor" to ask if he did repairs and he said yes we do it all. When I get there, he says I'm not going to repair these because it won't look right. Not because he is not capable but simply because he didn't want to. So how the hell do you do it all if you're picky with what you do? I recently had an experience with Jabbar that I have to share: I needed a nice suit for a job interview, so I decided to try a couple of the "Suit Warehouse" type stores on Gratiot. After a while, I stopped in at Jabbar the Tailor because of the "Two suits for $150" promo in the window. The store is small, and packed to the brim with suits and accessories. I was looking around for no more than three minutes before Jabbar himself came out and asked if I needed help. I said I did; I was having an interview and I needed something conservative, and not too expensive. He asked what size I wore. Now, I hadn't purchased a suit in about a year, and I'd forgotten my size. So, I guessed I was a 46. He looked me up and down and shook his head. He walked over to a rack and pulled out two suits that were nearly the same color, a dark blue/grey with thin pinstripes, and asked me if I wanted single or double-breasted. I chose the single-breasted. It took me a few minutes to get the suit on, but from the moment I got the pants on I knew this was the suit. Jabbar had correctly guessed my size by just looking at me? This was confirmed when I put on the jacket; the suit fit me PERFECTLY. Jabbar and I picked out the type of hem I wanted on the pants, and an hour later I had my suit. Now, I've rarely ran into this kind of skill in a tailor, or any professional for that matter. Seriously... I was amazed at how he was able to simply pick a suit off the rack and THAT be exactly what I was looking for. And what's even better, I didn't notice until I had the suit home how great of a deal he cut me; the suit cost me about $110, but it was marked as $250! Jabbar gave me over 50% off! The suit he chose wasn't on the "two suits for $150" rack. Looking back, I'm so glad that I got this suit. From now on, if I ever have to purchase a suit or a dress shirt, I'll be going to Jabbar before anyone else. The service is top notch, and the prices can't be beat! read more

Small Mom and Pops shop. I stopped by with my Dad to get a skirt zipper repaired, and he ended up finding a sweater he wanted from Van Dykes Menswear there. He couldn't believe a rinky dink shop like this one has his sweater $50 cheaper than other retailers in the area. My tailoring was completed within 24 hours, and I loved it. I strongly suggest that the owner revamp the look of the store. He seems a bit outdated. Otherwise great tailoring and great men's products. read more

Needed a suit altered for a next day wedding. 'Keith' immediately marked up the suit and explained what too tight or too loose would result in. Had it done in 1.5hours and wouldn't take a tip. Other staff was very friendly and pleasant. They apparently do leather shoe work etc and had some stylish shoes; the staff told me football players go their dress shoes there. More mom/Pop feel. All these reviews about "how good Jabbar is." Read my review and maybe if you were thinking about going to Jabbar, this will change your mind. When I first walked in, the shop looked decent. There were to men. Jabbar, and a guy working in the back. He was on the phone when we walked in and just said to go try on whatever I needed to be hemmed. So I put on my dress, and when I came out he was still on the phone. He came over quickly and measured it and told me to change back into my clothes. When I came back out again, he was STILL on the phone. I thought to myself, is THIS how you treat a new customer? I went to pay him, but he was still on the phone. He asked me if I could read his health card to his insurance company on the phone. I was shocked. If he can't see good enough to read his health card, how is going to be able to see to hem my dress. I was hesitant leaving my dress there, but it was to late to take it back. The day I picked up my dress, as soon as I got it home, I looked at it. The bottom when he shortened it was sloppy, and he pulled a thread out from it. If you still want to go to Jabbar's, then that's your choice, but I do not recommend it from my experience. read more

I am not sure what happened to this place, but please do NOT waste your money. We used this place for years and tried it this past year on a mens suit and ladies pants. Mens suit was tailored with the sleeves different lengths and pants being off as well. Needed right away so just dealt with it. Ladies pants were hemmed so short it looked like I was wearing floods with one leg inch longer than other. Took them back for them to fix them and legs were still different lengths. Took them back again and the tailor told me, "maybe your hips are off" REALLY? I told them I didn't think so, but even if they were isn't that the point of going to a tailor - to get stuff altered to your body. Picked them up again and they are still different lengths and after three washes the left hem is already falling apart. So disappointed in the lack of quality in their work! read more

They always do a good job when I come in for tailoring. Prices seem standard (although I have no comparison). Very polite and customer-oriented. Have yet to buy any suits here, but they seem to have a good selection with competitive prices. Jabbar is my tailor of choice. read more

I've had Jabbar do alterations twice and both times he has impressed me! Once with school uniforms putting 2 darts into skirts and hemming pants and the other time he altered a formal dress. The place is not fancy but the work and service/turnaround time is great. read more
