I knew before even cracking the menu: I was home. Our server, Grace, was all smiles and Buckeye spirit. She gave us the rundown--Woody's has been serving up Buckeye-influenced eats for about 15 years. And it shows. The burgers aren't just burgers here--they're tributes, each named after coaches, players, or football legends. Picking one felt like draft day. Grace recommended the Dustin Burger, named after former Buckeye great Dustin Fox. Now, I'll admit--when I heard "peanut butter on a burger," my first reaction was the same as when Michigan wins a game: complete disbelief. But I trusted Grace. And let me tell you... this was no trick play. This half-pound beauty came stacked with peanut butter, crispy bacon, cheddar cheese, and a fried egg. It sounds strange, but somehow the combo worked like a perfectly executed Flea Flicker. The bun was grilled, the burger cooked to a juicy medium rare, and by the second bite I needed a stack of napkins big enough to block a defensive line. My wife went with the Tailgate Burger--a powerhouse with house-made BBQ sauce, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, Miracle Whip, and onion straws. Cooked to medium well, it was sweet, tangy, and messy enough to require its own offensive coordinator. She said it was delicious--though maybe a little too "sloppy touchdown celebration" for her liking. And get this--burgers are just the start. The menu is huge, with pizzas, sandwiches, and even big entrees like grilled steak and pork chops. But honestly, when the burgers are this good, I don't know if I could ever call another play. So here's my verdict: Woody's Diner = Buckeye pride + killer burgers + friendly staff = one unforgettable lunch. If you're a Buckeye fan, or just a burger fan, or hey, even if you're that rare soul who just likes food with personality--high tail it to Woody's. Trust me, it's worth it. We ordered our drinks, our server checked our IDs, walked away, then came back and asked for them again. She was gone with them for 5-10 mins before letting us know that because of "reasonable doubt" and things that have been going on, she couldn't serve us. As a bartender, I completely understand she doesn't need to give a reason - it just sucks to be left confused. On the way out, we asked another employee if she could explain why we were denied. She said because of "reasonable doubt," and also because we had "REV" on the back of both of our Illinois licenses which she said meant they were revoked on 09/17/2015. At that time I would've been 11 and my boyfriend was 14... so obviously that doesn't make any sense. She even said to me, "You wouldn't have even been driving then," which is true and makes it even more confusing. I understand the businesses on the lake have to be strict, but what was absurd was the explanation about the "REV" code. If you just Google it, the AI overview says it means revoked, but if you actually look at the Illinois Secretary of State website and/or call them (which I did), it means revised. My dad & brother are cops in Illinois so when I called after we left to ask them, they even verified that for me because I obviously wouldn't have a valid license or even one in my possession... if it had actually been revoked a cop would've taken it away, they don't deal out revoked IDs, AND they don't put that on a license - only way to find out is through the police computer system. But, the most ironic part is that last night, I was there with a group of 12 people, had my ID checked, was served with no issues, and had an amazing time watching the live band. That's what made today's experience surprising and disappointing, and that's why I'm giving 2 stars.

I laughed when I saw this crunchwrap I uncovered on my way to the office. It was actually the width of a sauce packet. I took a picture to actually show how small it was. Every time I open my pictures and see this ridiculousness, I laugh. It tasted fine but it's not what I wanted. I wanted an actual crunchwrap. I don't know what's changed at this location but I hope they fix it soon! On the other hand, I won't be driving to the Lake just to get breakfast any more.

Ordered pizza from here over the phone and was asked to repeat my order 3 times!! All because the girl on the other end wasn't paying attention! Went to pick up the pizza and kitchen was full of teens looked like some were working and some were just hanging out. Made me a little nervous as to what kind of food I would get just doesn't seem sanitary to have people just hanging around where food is being made. So since I interrupted there "party" cashier acted annoyed that I was there like how dare I interrupt her ! Anyway if you are looking for rude, unfriendly service and mediocre at best pizza this is the place for you! Owners really need to work with staff on their horrible attitudes! I would give zero stars if that were an option! read more
