I was on my way to the appointment and called to let them know I was running late after leaving work early. They told me I'd need to reschedule because they had computer issues and lost all their appointments so my artist was currently working on someone else. I tend to shy away from Yelp and I usually attempt to stay even further away from writing reviews on the site but I'll make an exception for this one. If I recall correctly, I've been coming to Jack Brown's for the last 6 years to have tattoos done by Greg Howell. The praise I have to give him and the rest of the artists here is usually reserved for fine scotch, random hook ups with strange women, and hot pockets. It's beyond phenomenal. All jokes aside, I love coming here. You walk in through the door and you're greeted by the cheerful buzz of tattoo guns (is that the right term?) and music on the speaker system. Setting up appointments here is easy, and the staff are all incredibly friendly. When you're all squared away with signing your form you can sit in the beautifully decorated seating area and look at the works of the artist's. For people with body piercings there's a nice display case which also holds shirts, and other various items of merchandise. When it's your turn to get your tattoo or piercing you will be called up and brought to the artists station. All the artists have their own areas to work in. More to the point though, Greg has always been friendly, incredibly helpful, and a pleasure to work with. I have never been disappointed with the work he has done and I shall keep returning. He answers questions, and has given great advice with my tattoos. I'm going to wrap this up but I feel as if this should be added: - You're going in for a service. Tip them. - Be punctual. My best friend and I went in for matching tattoos. They had a serious personal meaning and we wanted to get it exactly right. The staff was really friendly and helpful. No one judged any ideas we had and they made sure to remind us that we should not take this decision lightly. If we didn't feel absolutely happy with the sketches he would keep drawing them for us to see and we could always leave no harm done. I appreciated that they weren't pushy about how we should do it or just to decide something. The artist spent a good half hour revising the sketch with us. In the end we found the perfect artwork adjusted slightly for each of our taste and ended the day with our matching reminders. Highly recommend this place for artist who care about you and share their knowledge and experience regarding the design you want. read more

I didn't get a tattoo here. Stopped by to look at the shop and set up a consultation. Evidently rude is the new greeting, (I assume) the front desk person met us at the door and refused to help us at all. It was close to closing time but they were still opened. Kelly Drake is the man! Asked around for a skilled artist who could draw a realistic eye and do an detailed half sleeve and Kelly Drake was the guy everyone recommended. Gave the guy a couple different photos of what I wanted for my half sleeve. The fist and second session went smoothly. The eye the key and the forest look amazing, Kelly did an excellent job. I've been getting a lot of compliments on how great the forest looks so that means it was a success. This is the go to guy for professional tattoo work. The environment in the place is very chill and relax. Great music chill vibes the artist sometimes talk to each other for advice and I like that. The place is friendly and I'd recommend this place to anyone. I live in the D.C. area and I drove like an hour to get to the shop, so that shows how great this place is. read more

Since my first review I've gotten another tattoo done by the amazing Kelley Drake. My husband has also gotten two by Kenny Brown, which are phenomenal. I cannot say enough amazing things about this shop and their artists. They are always extremely welcoming when we stop by, which to me is a huge bonus. You leave feeling like you just left a friends house. I would highly recommend every artist here easily. I have heard some people say they are pricey but trust me, you get what you pay for. They are so worth the money. Do yourself a favor and pay them a visit! read more

Wow, bad experience. After reading the other reviews, I would agree that you might get some good work here. However, you won't be treated very well. I called to get some info and maybe set up a time to get some work done and I was rudely told that appointments are not made until a deposit is given. Ok, I get that. But if I'm a previous client this comes off pretty harsh. Also, no one returns emails or voicemails at this place - so don't bother. FYI - If you are interested in getting work from Kenny I was told that "he's not currently taking appointments at this time". Really? Thanks for letting your clients know. Again, a let down. If you like the work from this place, that's cool. My suggestion, just don't let them treat you poorly. After all, we're the clients. read more

Listen, it is between you and the artist, who you feel comfortable with, who will best represent your ideas and get them right on your body. Jack Brown's is not a flash shop, this is a custom tattoo shop. Take your ideas there, talk with the artists. My guess is that you will be more than convinced this is the shop for you. In fact, go to other shops see what they have to offer, interview the artists -- I did. I bet you go back to Jack Brown's to get your work done. I have 4 times! So, get your ideas together, bring them to Jack Brown's Tattoo Revival, talk to the artists, see what they have to offer. Oh, keep an eye out, the shop often times has guest artists come in for a few days at a time. The shop also does a fund raiser every year 100% of the profits go to a selected charity. There's honestly nothing bad I can say about my experience with Jack Browns. I walked in one day and basically told them I wanted a half sleeve. The artist who had some openings, Justin, had a great portfolio and I loved his use of color. When I told him what I wanted--basically an owl, he threw some ideas out and I was open to anything. I didn't want something that was printed off the internet. So far I've had three sessions with him, with one or two more left to finish the background and the inside of my bicep. I'm so impressed with the work, I probably wouldn't go anywhere else. The staff that I've dealt with has been more than awesome as well. I recommend them to everyone. read more

I absolutely love this place. I have been coming here for the last 3 years for work on my left arm sleeve. I primarily go to Kenny Brown, the owner for my work but I have personally seen all the other work being done in the process by other artists (Greg, Kelly, Johan) and they all do an amazing job! Plenty of work both in the store and on the website you can check out for yourself or look at their instagrams! Pricing is not bad at all ranges from $125-150 for large pieces and then smaller is just a flat rate. They offer cover-ups and piercings as well! I've been going here for years and have given Jack Browns thousands of dollars of my hard earned money. All my work was done by Johan and I never had an issue until my last experience. In December 2019, Johan and I were having a discussion regarding politics during my tattoo session (half sleeve)and he flipped out in the middle of the session and started screaming like a child; some of things he said I will not repeat on here because it would attract the attention of law enforcement authorities (you're welcome Kenny). He basically had a mental breakdown in front of the entire shop which was full of customers at the time. He then ran into the back and continued to scream. Kelly Drake went and spoke with him to calm him down. Johan came back out and actually thought I was going to let him continue to tattoo me. No thanks I'm good you lost yourself a customer. So I paid for my service and cancelled my future appointments and walked out. After feeling betrayed by Johan, a few days later I called and spoke to Kenny because I wanted to give him an opportunity to address the issue rather than post a scathing review on Yelp. First words out of his mouth was I got 10 minutes until my next appointment I heard his side of the story now I'll hear yours. (Great way to start a conversation with a customer who had a serious issue)He also said that Jack Browns tends to lean politically to the left (what does a persons political affiliation have to do with anything. I never disclosed mine)Basically, Johan lied to Kenny about the entire situation and of course as you can tell from Kenny's responses on Yelp even if his employees are wrong he will take their side regardless. So I gave Kenny an opportunity to fix the issue but he decided to blow me off and not contact me to setup an appointment to finish my tattoo personally which he said he would do. For being a place that supposed to be non judgemental it appears to be the complete opposite. If Johan is unable to put his big boy pants on and act like an adult then he should not engage in those types of conversations. Obviously we both where comfortable enough with each other to have that type of conversation and I was never offended by any of the garbage that came out of his mouth. (Note: Nothing I said was offensive it just happens that some people can't handle reality) I'm not drinking the kool-aid Jack Browns is serving. I should have seen the warning signs. Think about it if an artist talks shit about other customers in front of a customer, chances are they doing the same to you. You don't treat good customers like this! We are your livelihood. Good Reputations can be lost just as as fast as they are earned! I've moved on to a shop that actually appreciates their customers and their work is just as good. read more

You won't get a bad tattoo at Jack Browns. Unlike other shops they have MANY high quality artists to choose from. Whether you like traditional, comic book style, want a portrait a coverup or a full scale Japanese back-piece they have an artist for you. The guys who own this place are good dudes and give back a lot to the local community. Expect to make an appointment. They are busy because they are GOOD! I've been tattooed all over the country and this is by far my favorite shop. The artist are top notch and reasonably priced for the work they produce. It's a great environment and a really comfortable place to get tattooed. I've seen a few reviews complaining about one of the women who works the front desk being rude and I couldn't DISAGREE more. She keeps the shop running smooth and is straight up about what you need to do to book an appointment. She's never been rude to me and she wasn't rude to my mother when she had a bunch of questions about getting a tattoo and I've not witnessed her being rude to any customers. The worst customer service I've ever experienced. Let me start off with the fact that getting someone on the phone to speak to was a disaster. In Feb I spoke to someone and told them it was for my son. I was supposed to receive a call back and never did. I called a week later to then be told to wait a month to get on the books. I went ahead and called the day I was told Kenny's books were open in Mar. Then I was told he was already booked and they were unsure why I was told I would be able to get in. So here we are setting up an appt in April for a custom tattoo which was dropped off at the shop. The day of the tattoo about 2 hrs beforehand I start getting text messages from 2 people at the shop, one being Kenny. However it appeared that something was wrong as both were telling me that Kenny only works digitally (which I didn't know) and Kenny can't find the paperwork. Hmmm. Yet noone told me this and why they wait until the day of to discuss this. Then I go ahead and call and proceed to spoken to entirely too loudly to be considered professional, interrupted constantly and told that he doesn't work in this style because he was frustrated. So was I! This was supposed to be an 18th bday present for my son who'd been so excited to get a tattoo and by Kenny. He has been through so much and was finally looking forward to something. What a let down. Why would they take the appt and the picture if he doesn't work in that style? Why would they wait until the day of let alone 2hrs before the appt? I've worked in business for over a decade and this is far from how it should go. I will say Kenny did end up apologizing however too little too late. read more

My wife and I were clients when they first opened, helped them with things and then one day we had 4 appointments for us and family, which would have been a lot of money for the shop, but the "artist" said "I've decided to go to guitar practice today, too bad maybe some other time". Went here on a sat for walk in service. I guess my tattoo was too big, prob dollar bill sized, so I had to make an appt. No biggie. Put the deposit down and wemt on my merry way. Mind you the appt was for a month and a half out. This was in April. To make a long story short they rescheduled on me 3 times. Once for a family reunion, once for a tattoo convention and lastly for legitimate reason. Also they would only call me the night before of the appt to reschedule after I had already asked off work. My last appt was to be in Sept of that same year. I told them, "I wasn't dealing with it anymore, can I have my deposit back?" They said, "No, unfortunately deposits are unrefundable." I will never go back. There are so many other great places around this area. I've done a half sleeve outline on a walk in at another place. Avoid these snobs at all cost. You'd think you were auditioning for Miami Ink. The caveat is, if they do ever touch your skin, I've heard about and seen some of their work, and it's very good. Unfortunately their shoddy customer service prevented me from ever finding out what they could do for me. read more

I got a nostril piercing here a couple of days ago. My friends have also gotten their second lobes and belly buttons done here. The piercer is extremely kind and will talk your head off. He has been piercing for 20 years (I think?). He kept saying "If you go home and don't like your piercing I'm gonna be up worrying all night!". The piercing itself didn't hurt but I did pour blood for about 10 minutes. I'm guessing this is just a result of my low iron levels and a tendency to get nose bleeds very easily. Even though I was freaked out he kept me very calm and explained that as soon as the wound found oxygen it would clot which it did a couple of seconds later. I was also anxious about infection and he told me if I was worried about a possible infection, I could just pop in and they would check it out and fix me up. He was obviously very experienced and hygenic. He changed his gloves three times through the whole process and the table he worked from looked like a little hospital surgical tray with a blue sanitary cover. When I told him I felt a little bit nauseous he asked me if I wanted water. Essentially he was extremely kind and sweet and anyone who is pierced by him is going to have a good experience. read more
