We had a fantastic experience this year. I got in touch and received a response right away. A price estimate was provided promptly (which was one of the more competitive ones), and I was able to book for the very next week. I got a text reminder about my appointment for today and texted to confirm, and got a text as a response. The lights just went up today - the guys showed up well within the time window, did an incredible job and were very nice and so efficient and meticulous in placement. I'm not sure why their work is so undervalued that people think a few hundred dollars in price increase for bigger houses is outrageous - they do crazy things, they're up on roofs, up trees. After all, you're quite literally booking a service that you refuse or cannot do yourself.. just something to ponder. People come to Yelp, more often than not, to provide a one-sided account of a story and give a bad review. I try to counter this and make sure to leave reviews of any good, great and excellent experiences - businesses big and small need this! I'm not sure whether people will find this relevant somehow but we have a metal roof and we have had gutter cleaning companies back out of working on our roof claiming it felt dangerous because of the slanted angles and slippery, so I was ready to be disappointed. Lots of excuses from Chris here. Just got off the phone with what was a very unpleasant conversation with him. Used him for years, and the first year, he didn't do our dormers, which I paid for. I called him, and after serval excuses, agreed to come out and finish the job. Today, I was scorned for laughing at his new assistant on the phone. Our price went from $375 to $2000. We moved and have a bigger house, but that doesn't mean we wanted to do more lights. They Also said we needed new lights. Bought them from them last year. I was in shock more than anything. Wasn't trying to be rude, but I'm sure it came across that way. Was then told by Chris that he would never let me speak to his daughter that way let alone his new assistant just doing her job. I get that, but how about know who your customer is given you are in the customer service business. Needless to say, he offered to do the install this year, but never again. No thanks. They've promised to drop my lights off tomorrow. We'll see if that actually happens. I've never made a review on Yelp before. Also told me I am one of his most discounted customersand that his average customer spends $4k a year. I don't know who those people are, but I wish I could afford $4k. Told me inflation was 18%. Great, so should have been an extra $60. Enough said. Not happy with the Owner. Their guys who do the install are great and I always tip them, but I don't need to be lectured by someone when I am the customer. read more

After numerous attempts to get the lights we purchased back from Jack Frost, we are writing this review. Last year we purchased lights and installation service from Jack Frost for over $1,000. Although we had an option to ask him to take the lights down, we decided not to use his service. One day, without any permission, the lights were taken down and taken away. Jack Frost quoted $600 to put the lights back and we decided not to use his service again. We asked to have the lights delivered back to our house as this is the property we own, which was taken without permission. Our numerous attempts resulted in nothing, and the owner has been rude, unprofessional and we still don't have our property back. Sadly, Chris did not deliver this year. I am a returning customer. I loved what they did the first year. I was told the initial price gets cut in half as a returning customer. When I called to make my appointment the following year. I was told it would be $300 from Chris. When his crew arrived later than the 4 hour window. I was still happy to see them. However, they doubled their price. When inquiring about the price increase from last month. The owner Chris was pushy and rude. I'm hoping this is an isolated incident from his normal character. Although, he was quick to inform me he was a Veteran and a retired Cop. I've referred him 3 people. Hopefully, they won't fall victim to the same experience. read more

We purchased this service for my grandparents, as they are too old to put Christmas lights up on their house. We saw this service on Groupon for 99$ with expiration of 12-19. Getting a hold of these people requires an act of whatever god you believe in, and they exclusively want you to use their website to schedule/ask questions. When you do that, you have to enter your questions in the comments section of the form, but no one calls you back for answers. We provided our own lights, and we had both older and new lights available for use. The lights they used have multiple bulbs that are burnt out, and instead of opting for the newer lights they went ahead and put up the bad ones. Not only are there gaps in lights, but one side of the house is multi-colored and the other side of the house is all white. Upon realizing this, why did they continue using the lights they chose? You would think that when you hire a 'professional' service, they would want to ensure that their work looks good. When all was said and done, they asked for a $400+ check for their service. My grandmother, not understanding that this was already paid for via Groupon, wrote them a check. When we called back to explain that they should not have been charged $400+, the person we spoke w/ became very annoyed, and stated that "he no longer accepts Groupon" because of other issues he's had through them. And he also stated "everyone wants something for free." Which sounds to me like an issue w/ Jack Frost Designs and Groupon. Regardless we had already purchased their service through Groupon, and expected it to be honored. Further if you are no longer going to accept Groupon, you should post on your website that Groupon vouchers are no longer valid, and direct your customers to the point of contact at Groupon to receive a refund. The quality of work provided wasn't worth the $400+ much less $99. Jack Frost Designs did offer to mail back the check, but at that point the check had already been cancelled. However the originally agreed upon voucher of $99 is still available to be claimed by Jack Frost Designs. Overall, for a company that claims to have been in business for 20+ years on their website, you would expect a higher level of customer service, as well as pride in their work. Worse than the work they did was the way they treat their customers. I will be sure to not recommend this service to anyone. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!!! If I could I would rate them a 0. We should have been a 3rd year returning customer this year. HA!!! What a joke!! Year 1 - we had colored lights. They went up fine. Not too long after they were put up they all stopped working. Apparently a connection was in water in the gutter. A tech came out to fix it. He had no idea what was causing it. A second tech showed up days later and identified the problem. They worked for a while but not the entire time we had them. I called Chris, told him what had happened, and he told me I would get a discount the following year. If I remember correctly we paid $600.00 the first year for a small area to cover and he indicated it would only be $300.00 for year two. Year 2 - We got the clear lights. They worked great for the entire time. I didn't get Chris' word for the $300.00 charge in writing so we paid another $600.00. My bad! Year 3 - I was quoted $300.00 for the installation of our saved clear lights. The installers came out the day after Thanksgiving. First I was told it was going to be $375.00. I insisted that Chris had told me $300.00. Brandon (?) called Chris to find out. While they were on the phone the installers came down and informed us that they couldn't install because we had gutter guards put in. Chris was told and he had a total fit. He said we should have told him about it. Now how in the @%*! am I supposed to know that's going to make a difference and it's up to me to inform them? I feel that it should be a question asked of the customers at the time of booking the appointment. We had no lights but Chris did insist that we owed $150.00 for the "house call". We paid it. Brandon suggested I call the office the next day and talk to Stephanie (?). I called her, asked if we could get lights around the yard, in the trees, etc. instead of the house and apply the $150.00 toward getting that done. She told me she'd check with Chris and get back to me the next day. Did she? No. Did anyone? No. I was ghosted. Customer service doesn 't exist with this company. They must have enough misinformed new customers not to respect their returning ones. I've never had any customer service worse than this from any other business in my life. If you really want to do business with them (which I don't suggest) get everything in writing that Chris or anyone else working for the company tells you. I can say that from personal experience. I'll expand on a couple of points you made: * January 1/holiday: While I welcome and appreciate companies who like to give their employees time off on holidays, a business should advertise as much. I am not a mind reader and used your confirmation email as a confirmation that you would be there. Not sure why this is my fault. * Tech support on our lights: I appreciate the fact that the owner drove 3 hours to come to my house (not sure where his drive originated). The day we called you, it was raining and he wasn't able to come out. He came the next day, but it wasn't raining, so the problem had resolved itself. We purge old/broken equipment each year, so what was supplied was in working order (as noted below, it was the rain that caused problems). * I understand you give a 1-hour window for appointments, but every visit was well outside of that window (i.e. 6pm appointment, but showed up at 8:45pm = 2.75 hours, not one). People run late. I get that. I'm just saying a courtesy phone call would have been nice. As a person in the customer service industry, I would suggest a little less defensiveness when dealing with customers and add a touch of sincerity. That could have saved me as a customer. read more

Its not my intention to write an online review without discussing my issues with the business directly, but I looked all over the Jack Frost website for an email address or phone number for customer service and could not find one. The contact number I tried goes straight to voicemail. I had my lights installed today and was less than impressed with my experience. 1. When I scheduled my appointment online, it was my understanding that it would be for an estimate, and if that was acceptable the lights would be installed. Leaving me with the assumption that the price would be determined onsite. The website also mentions that Jack Frost can assist with lighting design - and that most jobs start at (labor) 200 dollars and up. 2. The meeting was set for this morning and the owner called me shortly before our meeting time to advise they were running an hour and a half behind and wanted to know if they were doing an estimate or install. I said - both - if possible. 3. The team (2 guys) arrived and asked where the outlets were etc.. No mention of an estimate. Just wanted to jump right in. I asked them for some ideas and they pretty much said - whatever I wanted and it wasn't really their "deal" to suggest placement. I said fine, then just run the lights in a straight line along the gutters - 1st and 2nd floors. I also asked if they could string some lights on the POD in our driveway which they confirmed they could do. They then seemed surprised that they might need an extension cord and said " hope we have an extension cord on the truck".. They arrived while I was dealing with a work issue and I was a little distracted - so it was my error that I did not pin them down for an estimate. But I figured if it would be considerably higher than the 200 labor price mentioned on their website they'd let me know. 4. Midway through the job the one guy asked if the owner had reviewed price with me and I'd said no. He then said "his notes" indicated my job would be 750 dollars. I said fine, even though it seemed inordinately high for essentially stringing lights in a straight line on the front of the house (and around pod). 5. The total job took an hour and a half. The guys brought me out to show me and I asked them about the timer. He said "his notes" and the owner did not indicate I'd need a timer (even though the website says cords and timers would be included). I asked him if I could get a timer at HD and he said "ha - good luck, it's the Christmas season. I'm sure you won't find one". He said when timers became available they could bring one out - but that he hadn't had a timer on his truck in several days. I said "it sounds like there might be a communication breakdown between them and the owner and the guy laughed and said - "yea, that's pretty typical" The more I thought about this entire experience the more upset I became. I felt like I'd been "taken" and left with an Ok job. The lights were installed correctly but I'm embarrassed to tell anyone that I'd paid 750 for the install and then had to buy my own timers on Amazon (which are being delivered tomorrow). I've been a customer for years but this year will be my very last. The first time I ordered lights was a great experience. I purchased lights and had them installed for $600. Was assured that the next year, I would only pay for installation since I already owned the lights. Next year, same $600. Annoyed but loved the lights and the installers were great. Next year, same $600. Still annoyed but loved the lights. This year, on the day the lights were scheduled to be installed I get a call saying that some of the lights stopped working so I would need to pay $750 for new strands and installation. Asked about all the years that I kept paying the same price and the new assistant says, I'm new, don't know anything about that. Reluctantly, I agree and we schedule the install for two days later. Today the installers come and do a great job installing the same job they've installed each year. After they're done they ask for $900? What?! I tell them the price I agreed to was $750. They called back to the office and I get the same assistant who says that what she gave me was only an estimate and they they spent more money on the new strands than they expected (but never bothered to ask me if I was willing to pay for that). I told her that I agreed to pay $750 and that they should honor the price that was quoted. She said they could take down some of the lights to get to the $750 price. I told her they had two options: honor the price they quoted or take down the whole job and leave my property with $0! The assistant very angrily agreed to accept the $750. Suffice to say, I will never use them again. The lights are beautiful but the integrity of the company is nonexistent. read more

As you can tell in this thread, the business owner Chris offered me free lighting in 2014 to make up for the job I was unsatisfied with in 2013. I am happy to say I've updated my rating from 1 to 4. Chris sent his team out as soon as he could, weather permitting. He even risked the chance that it might rain that day in order to get my lights up as soon as possible. He was very communicative and professional and the team did a great job with the lights. Chris wanted to make sure I was happy and did a great job with that. The only reason it's a 4 and not a 5 is that the team came one day late to take down the lights. It didn't matter to me but it might to someone else. So I endorse Jack Frost -- they do a fantastic job of lighting your home for the holidays! read more

Their work is good. Their customer support is traumatizing. Install went smoothly and I paid on the spot via cash as requested since they told me "the credit company charges a fee." We had several lights out throughout the season that I didn't call on but planned to address at take down so we could have them fixed for next year. It is a 3-5 day window for removal of lights, and we scheduled them for a Monday. The workers arrived Wednesday evening without a call and we weren't home. After spotting the team on our security camera, I called the company to see how the lights would be left since we have multiple strings with various lengths and wanted to label them properly and fix those bulbs that were out. When I asked how the lights would be left or if the team could come back another day, that we hadn't received a call notifying us of their arrival, the owner went on a tirade screaming and yelling at me. I finally explained that I had paid in full for a service and now it felt like we weren't being taken seriously. He kept yelling, "we just want to close out this year!" He mentioned something about being a deputy sheriff and dealing with a recent death. He was yelling at the top of his lungs and I was in shock. In trying to get my questions answered, I said, "Sir..." Then he yelled, "DO NOT CALL ME SIR." I finally hung up the phone and put it down in disbelieve. My husband overheard the conversation and couldn't believe it. I figured it was an easy question with reasonable intentions but wasn't taken seriously at all. Bought a Groupon for this service and talked with Chris about my needs for hanging lights on my one-story house. I told him that I was furnishing my own lights and just had two strings to hang from the front of the house and garage. He was relieved to hear that I had my own lights and said that he had been having problems with Groupon clients since they thought that lights were provided by Jack Frost. He told me that there would be no problem with getting my lights up before my family arrived on Thanksgiving dinner. I made an appointment on his website for Tuesday November 25 at 6pm. Today, (November 22), I received an email saying that my appointment is cancelled with no other explanation. I called him and he went into an elaborate explanation about how they had stopped taking Groupons because they had problems with people expecting $20,000 worth of lights and he wasn't going to work for free. I made the reservation on his website and I told him I expected him to honor it, especially after talking at length about what my needs were and that I was providing my own lights and hardware. He told me that he did not get money from me and that he did not have an arrangement with me and that I would have to contact Groupon for a refund and then he would be happy to work with me directly. How can he not have an arrangement with me when I made the appointment on his own website? I did not expect for Groupon to hang my lights; I expected Jack Frost to do them. If he had a problem with Groupon, he should have contacted me and give me the chance to make other arrangements rather than to summarily cancel my appointment 3 days before the agreed installation. He never contacted me to ask if I still wanted to have the service done, even though I could not use my Groupon (which I would happily have done had he not started ranting about the other Groupon users that he has encountered). That is no way to run a business and certainly not the way to attract new and continuing business. I'll get on a ladder myself before I do business with Jack Frost. read more

We too were returning customers and have had a negative experience in the past/present. Most recently, these guys showed up at 7:30pm to try and put up lights in the dark and the terrain at our house doesn't make that a safe thing. So, we ended up rescheduling a couple days out, in the morning. The guys show up and describe what Chris has told them to do, which was put up a single strand of lights, corner-to-corner only in the front of the house. We get all that for the low low price of, $2000. He then proceeds to lie and say, each bulb is $6, GTFOH, they cost $55 a strand for the Cool White Commercial Grade LED Christmas lights. Then we asked him about all of the different props we have bought over the years and where they are at? His response" Oh, they all just got old and broke/ rusted out, we would need to replace them". That is amazing, everything happened to break in the last year., sitting in storage? Lol I would highly suggest that you find someone else to put up your lights. read more

I had a great experience using Jack Frost this year for the first time. They put up the lights on our two story house in about one hour with 3 guys and even set them on a timer for me. The owner spoke with me about what lights and what extension cords I should buy ahead of time so I was prepared. Their take down service was great too as they have an option to pay for a gutter cleaning when they take down your lights (makes so much sense since they are up there anyway). They were all very professional and did a great job. We will use them again next year!! read more

Chris has been "lighting" our home for four years. Once he has the lighting, he stores it for the next year. Yay ! He does a quick and efficient set-up and take down. He is very adjustable to adapting to whatever the electrical needs are ( ours is a challenge) and makes it all work. I would highly recommend Chris and Jack Frost Designs. read more

Never, never deal with this company. I rarely leave negative reviews (not my style). However, the way I was treated by the owner, I want to make sure that folks are aware ... I am a returning customer. I paid close to $1,000 last year to get the lights installed (just the front of my small house) and on three trees. This year, the guys showed up, installed the lights on front and had to come back to repair lights on three trees. I've been waiting all day. When I spoke with the owner to find out when to expect the crew, he was very rude on the phone, quoted a fee that I will have to pay in addition to what was paid (the fee was never disclosed). At the end of the call, when I was trying to explain that the fee was not disclosed, he cancelled the crew, yelled at me and didn't let me finish the sentence. I personally do not recommend this company we have used them a couple of times I had the string lights on our houses in 2016 1st time wonderful job we liked they didn't drill/stable into the wood facia like a lot of other companies do. It was very $$$ but we had expected that starting from scratch with the light show led liked they will take them down/store lights which we had them do in 2017 Chris quoted $800 install charge went from $800-$2700 for a little upset that he didn't inform us of the correct amount so we could prepare for that we don't mind paying more money to a reputable company that will do good work our lights they stored rats chewed and blame it on the birds from last year and act as if he was doing us a favor by replacing those strands of lights we let that go then they started to install the lights the lights weren't matching up perfectly we had them try to fix it it wasn't as good of a job the first time around but it was doable for us at least we had lights on our houses for Christmas they scratched our gutters after we already told him where to set their ladders so the gutters wouldn't scratch they failed to do so we let that go and figured we could just do a little bit of touchup paint then later that night the lights were ready to be turned on they worked for a little bit we noticed some of the strands looked faded and be in the fact that we had only used it one time it made us skeptical if we even received the lights that we purchased for the year before they had to come out numerous times to try to replace messed up strands to fix the lights so we can enjoy it like we did the year before half the time it wasn't even working properly or at all then this is where it really upset us it was time to take down the lights and figured we would store them this year so we wouldn't have our strand of lights chewed through at their storage facilities well come to find out that they broke several tiles and Chris's roofer from the Bay Area was too busy with the rainy season we needed our roof fixed it was a brand new house we just had all the warranty on the roof repaired after they took down the lights from the previously there was no broken tile he said he would make it right all we ask we like to deal with honest hard-working people well come to find out we had to learn the hard way there were so many things that added up to reach this point we had our roofing guys come out for repairs that was $500 we paid them to give the receipt to Chris to reimburse us for the cost he had made a big issue about it for insurance purposes I kept going back-and-forth between both companies to try to get a different type of receipt for Chris in the meantime it was hard to get a hold of him to reimburse us/!take down lights my husband decided to take down the lights himself so we wouldn't chance on getting our roof tiles broken again or anything else messed up to come to find out that they glued the Christmas lights to the tile we had missing parts off of the light strands the cover pieces for the bulbs that they were stapled into the facia wood it was a disaster up there that they had done not professional at all we had told Chris about this once we finally got a hold of him and to find out when we would be reimburse he still stated that the receipt that we had given him was not good enough when he needed to reimburse us for the damages that they had done and we paid to have fixed had tried to reach out still nothing the strands of lights that were messed up from being glued and missing parts we're never replaced I do not recommend this company due to the fact of their diss honest and unprofessionalism We paid $$$$ to this company to be screwed We hope nobody has to encounter what we had to go through we thought we did our research before hiring them but we were wrong find out the hard way I hope our experience will help others to prevent them from going through the same thing or worse form what we gone through/ experience with Chris-Jack Frost Designs.
