$100 of take out in the garbage. Absolutely everything takes burned. Spicy eggplant isnt spicy either it just takes like an extreme amount of ginger was used to cover the burn taste. The same with the Singapore noodles. My mouth is filmy from the amout of Madras curry powder used to cover the burn taste. I don't care how busy you are, try using clean pans. Your take out customers deserve food that isn't going directly in the garbage. I'd be less insulted if you just held me up and robbed me. It's so disrespectful. They lady at the counter refused to look for the order too. Just kept saying "no hun. No sweetie. No babe. We are slammed it's gonna be awhile " I finally pleaded with her to as least turn around and look after the 50th pet name and what do you know? It was sitting there the whole time. I have been going here for 20+ years. This past week I picked up take out and It was Terrible. Everything was dry and had no flavor (bad enough to throw away) other than the soups. The food is typical Chinese a nice place with white tablecloths and hot tea. I thought the prices were higher some other comparable but if you're looking for a place to sit in a cute, but small dining room this is the place to go. Had dinner there again tonight, for the dozenth (?) or so time. Jumped out of my comfort zone and ordered Jack's Special Fish. Didn't realize I was ordering a whole fish (!!!). See picture. Dinner tonight for 5 of us. Service was wonderful, as were the garnishes but the food was tasteless. Beef and Broccoli passable but the chicken XO was a drudgery to eat. White rice was the most tasteful thing we had next to the fortune cookie. Salt and Pepper wings were just fried wings with some scallions and peppers tossed on top. I usually do not post reviews, but I'm am livid. I called this afternoon @ 1230, a young lady answered. I asked if the restaurant was wheelchair accessible, she asked how wide the wheelchair was. I said I wasn't sure but could measure if she knew how wide the door was. Her reply was" I don't know how wide the door is, its old and I don't have time to go and measure the door, I'm busy, but you can drive over and measure the door yourself " Thinking why would it matter if I knew the measurements, she still has no idea how wide the door is.I explained we were coming to celebrate my sons 16th birthday who requested Jack's for dinner, again I'm sorry I'm busy and can't help you, said good bye and hung up. This place is legit. The wontons were the best I've ever eaten. The fried rice I would say was similar to PF Changs but BETTER. And the Kung Pao was delicious. There was nothing we ordered that we wouldn't try again. This is a ma and pa restaurant and the service was very good. We went early as we were traveling and our time zone difference made this a late lunch for us but even at 5:00 the restaurant became pretty full in a weeknight by 5:30. Clearly this is a well known local place. We're traveling back east again for another tournament and everyone in our party wants to make this a stop during our time back in Annapolis. We have good Chinese food where we live but this restaurant was good at everything we tried so we look forward to experiencing more of their menu! read more

We have our boat a nearby marina and we drive past this place all of the time when we are running errands. So we stopped tonight for dinner. It was like the Chinese restaurants from when I was a kid with all of the red decor. Lanterns and a bar. White tablecloths and napkins. They served hot tea, and it was amazing! We ordered the Thai chicken one of the specials. It was delicious and a large serving. The plate came garnishes with a swan radish. We will definitely stop back here! read more

This was the first time we have been here and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed everything we ordered. My husband did order Jack's special fish with salt and pepper. It had a light batter and was spicy if you had a bite with the cayenne pepper. The poor fish was looking at me the entire meal saying don't eat me. We enjoyed him anyway. I ordered take-out from here and got the crispy eggplant and the Thai stir fry noodle dish, with a side of crab rangoon. The pick-up was easy and quick, and my order was correct-which is always a relief, because no one likes having to go back. The place is located in a strip mall, and while there isn't a ramp right out front, you can get onto the sidewalk from the corner or at the main entrance to the complex at the crosswalk. The eggplant was by far my favorite, the flavors were REALLY REALLY good and it was crispy, and over the rice so tasty! The noodle dish was also really good, and a very different flavor. It was lighter, with lots of veggies. The rangoon I would probably not order again. I always eat one alone without the sauce to get a sense of the flavor, and it was pretty plain. I really like places that add fresh chive to the mixture, but theirs tasted like plain cream cheese and that was it. The sauce on it's own was also lacking. Not very spiced, not very exciting. Together they were certainly better and then I could enjoy them, but I think rangoon should be tasty without needing a sauce. read more

Well, let me tell you... Jack's Fortune stays busy but they somehow manage to get everyone seated without all the waitlist and reservations shenanigans. Upon arrival, we were immediately greeted and seated. I ordered the vegetable spring rolls, chicken & corn soup, and the Hunan Chicken. The portion sizes are HUGE. You will definitely have left overs! Everything was delicious and flavorful. The service provided was top notch as well. The pricing is also extremely reasonable. I was craving Chinese food recently while sick and came across Jack's Fortune, a pretty convenient option in Annapolis. We opted for take out, but the interior of the restaurant is surprisingly nice. Service is very friendly and our order was ready when they said it would be. We ordered the crispy chicken and beef dishes, unfortunately neither were crispy but perhaps it was because they had been sitting in takeout boxes with a bunch of sauce. They weren't spicy either, which was disappointing. I'm sure these dishes are better during a dine-in experience. The hot and sour soup was delicious and reminded me quite a bit of PF. Chang's. Jacks is good food. The dumplings are fantastic, the mixed chicken dishes are savory and good, the fish dish was really good and the general tso's was really good. I prefer my GT a little more spicy as this sauce was sweet but lacked heat. Jacks is in our rotation for Chinese food when we are in that mood. Jack's Fortune continues to be our restaurant of choice for Chinese food. Top of our list when we look at each other and decide neither of us want to cook. The food, to our palates, is very good. The service is excellent. Somehow the kitchen always delivers our order to the front counter as we walk in for carry out. When we dine there we are always comfortable and feel cared for without being hovered over. I really hate to say this, but when I was eating the Kung Pao Chicken that I ordered to go, I chewed on a staple that was mixed into the food. Other than the staple, the food seemed to be ok and you get a decent portion. There were a ton of peanuts in the Kung Pao Chicken so if you order it, ask for minimal peanuts. went here on a whim on the way home from work. I was hungry and it was close by. Veggie fried rice was calling. Went in and got take out, I did not wait long and the prices were ok. I got an asparagus crab meat soup and veggie fried rice. They threw in the crunch fried things, fortune cookies and some soy sauce. I forgot to ask for chop sticks. Oh well. I got home and enjoyed my meal for the next couple of days, for 14 dollars I got about three meals, not that I am a big eater though. We really like this place for several reasons. It's convenient. It's quiet so you can talk and enjoy your food and your dining companions. (It can also be romantic tucked away in a booth seated next to one another and holding hands.) The staff are all friendly and welcoming. My water glass never goes empty. They provide a nice pot of hot tea on the white linen table cloths with every meal. Food taste and portions have been good. Best of all, they have vegetable fried dumplings! (It's rare to find vegetable dumplings anywhere around here.) There are four huge dumplings filled with a nice mix of veggies. I can make a meal on just those. They also offer vegetable eggrolls that consist of more than just cabbage. They also provide Chinese mustard, duck sauce and... hot chilli oil. Win! The eggplant in garlic sauce smells incredible and tastes great. (Leftovers for lunch the next day typically causes co-workers to get hungry when it's heated up.) Another good choice when dining in is the crispy eggplant. The eggplant is tender and naturally sweet inside the crispy outside. I'll have to try some of the other vegetable dishes they offer. The staff already know my order but I'll mix it up a bit.... soon. read more

After seeing glowing reviews on FB, I traveled a happy hour to Jack's. We wanted to try a lot, here goes. Number one - everything was very, very fresh. The vegetables were crunchy. This can be difficult to find. Here's the rest: - PuPu Platter: 2 very meaty, dry, chewy ribs; spring rolls with under cooked cabbage too ropey to chew through easily; beef skewers were tender and nicely seasoned; shrimp toast was not greasy but not memorable. - Sweet & Spicy wonton: overly s wet sauce with doughy wonton. I couldn't rate the filing through the wrapper. - Hot & Sour Soup: this was the highlight of our meal. Flavorful, thick, not spicy or sour but still a tasty soup. - Moo Sou Pork: a large serving, full of pork and discernible mushrooms, clouds ear, pancakes and enough hoisin. - Spicy Szechuan Beef: not very spicy but with a lot of vegetables that sat high on the plate, tender beef and a good sauce (not overly oily or thickened). - Chicken Chow Mein Lunch Combo: shredded chicken, sliced celery and onion in a typical Cantonese sauce (think Moo Goo Gai Pan sauce), with fried rice that was nothing but rice (no veg/egg), an egg roll my daughter are too fast to find out how it was. "Best Chinese in Annapolis" is a misnomer as there really isn't ANY Chinese food in Annapolis PERIOD. I'm talking about real ethnic cuisine that Chinese people would actually eat at not just work in like Hunan Manor in Columbia or New Big Wong in DC's Chinatown. I agree with the reviewer who also said Annapolis is sadly a desert when it comes to even decent 'asian-inspired' food as a good 80% of the options are just dismal to any actual discerning palate. Reviewers handing Jack's a 5-star rating here are doing you dear reader, and the Yelp community at large a serious disservice. To the reviewer making ardent claims of 'fresh, homemade, not frozen' have you been actually IN the kitchen of this place to verify these 'facts'??? If so you can probably name their suppliers as backup - I didn't see any references in your 'review' however. This review is of Jack's for lunch to-go getting my usual suite of 'asian-inspired' dishes that I use to benchmark these 'Chinese' food purveyors; sm hot & sour soup and a kung pao chicken or in today's case 'lunch combination #15' which includes an egg roll and fried rice. Prices very reasonable $2.95 for the soup and $6.95 for the lunch combo which is within 1-2 bucks of the average around NAPtown for the same grub. The hot & sour soup had a hefty amount of ingredients including the typical suspects tofu, pork, button mushrooms, and green onions but lacked in the areas of woodear mushrooms and any semblance of 'sour' - almost like they left out the vinegar this time. Decent flavor and heat but missing 50% of the flavor experience. Gets a mulligan of sorts because of how hearty it was. The fried wontons that accompanied were slightly stale. The egg roll was pretty typical and I'm going with the one reviewer who suggested these were pre-made and bought ready to fry. The merchant also scoffed a bit when I asked for some house mustard to go with it - she tried to brush me off with more mustard packets which have about as much taste as that yellow crud kids put on their hot dogs. The kung pao was the slight surprise at Jacks as it wasn't adorned with anything but peanuts, red chili peppers, and green onions. I've seen so many 'kitchen sink' kung paos in my time that are downright nasty. This one had good heat - still-crisp-edged chicken pieces, good brown sauce and no mystery parts. My only beef is it didn't have enough green onion (they never do for me) and some of the green onion was tough which means it might have been a tad dated. Jack's can safely take #2 in town for their Kung Pao Chicken only surpassed by House of Hunan in Riva Fest. Portion size was a tad off on the lunch combo as there was about 75% fried rice to 25% kung pao. The fried rice was simply that too - just rice and soy sauce (lots of it). NOTHING else - no egg, no onion, no pork pieces nada zip zero. Fried rice usually isn't served in it's literal translation - there's 'stuff' in it usually. There was at least a pound of the stuff in that box too with enough salt in it to safely stash a barrel of nuclear waste in. Jack's is good enough that I'd try a dine-in some day to round out my experience and try something else that isn't available on the lunch menu (like the duck). But 5-stars??? Comedy might be better suited to you 5-star folks here but not food-critic that's just plain crazy talk. If the day comes we get a Hunan Manor type actual Chinese restaurant here where you will see the Chinese families LINE UP to get in will be the day I stop catering to these wanna-be joints. But like most foodies you need the occasional 'fix' regardless how inauthentic it may be. Jack's will get you through the DTs just fine and A-OK. 3 Stars - no more no less. Jack's Fortune was wonderful! I tried this place on a Thursday afternoon during lunch hours and was delighted with the service and food. I was given hot tea and H2O promptly and my appetizer of wonton soup and egg roll was up in about 2 minutes. The EGG ROLLS here are the BEST I've ever had! I ordered another one :) I was just as pleased with the pork fried rice and General Tso's chicken. Quiet and nice oriental ambiance with classical music in the background. Would be nice to take my girlfriend here sometime. All in all I would say that the food is just about as great as Court of Shanghai, one of my favorites in Annapolis, but not quite as expensive! We chose this restaurant based on their top rating in Annapolis. Coming from the eastern shore, good Chinese food is hard to find. We ordered fried dumplings (cold in the middle) and crab rangoons (a bit overdone) for appetizers. My vegetable fried rice looked good but tasted a little burnt. The other half's honey chicken was decent but nothing special. Overall, I think this place is overpriced for what you get. Service was very slow and we noticed a lack of attention paid to our table. Thoroughly enjoyed Jack's Fortune. This rating combines the solid presentation of food (I even had a swan on m plate), the flavor and what puts them over the top is their extra service most restaurants don't provide. The wait staff work together. The water glasses kept full and they accomodate requests as well as boxing up your food for you and were SUPER pleasant. Overall you could tell it wasn't even an effort to provide the service they gave - that's their every day style.
