So glad we found this restaurant! Went yesterday for lunch and could not have been more pleased with the orange beef. We used to go to Grace's Fortune in Bowie for years and really enjoyed their food until they closed. The same chef apparently works at Jack's Fortune and the food we ordered definitely confirmed this. My daughter had the Firecracker Shrimp and I tried that as well. Delicious! Relative to other Chinese food restaurants in the world, this one is pretty disappointing. But relative to other Chinese food in Annapolis, it's great! We had the hunan beef and twice-fried pork with two veggie egg rolls. In both cases, the food was OK. The meat was cooked alright, although the texture indicated it had probably been sitting in the sauce for some time before being reheated for us. We really liked the amount and selection of veggies in both dishes, especially the fresh broccoli with the hunan beef. I look forward to the day when better Chinese food comes to Annapolis. after reading great reviews all day my family was so excited to try jacks fortune. unfortunately the reviews nor the cost met those expectations. we ordered the crab rangoon's, szechwan beef, beef and broccoli and house fried rice. the szechwan beef was advertised on the website as spicy and it has barely any flavor, i was so excited for the crab rangoon's, but had barely any filling in them and two were just the pastry puff. we were able to eat the beef and broccoli and fried rice however it's nothing spectacular. i'm hoping this experience was just a reflection of quarantine, but we will not be returning. read more

But after seeing my food and eating it, I see why. The server brings out water, then brings a kettle of hot tea. Wasn't expecting the hot tea, so it was definitely a nice touch. I ordered the General Tso chicken and it was amazing. Big portions and friendly staff. Had the my Chinese food taste test of egg rolls, fried potstickets, Kung Pao, house special fried rice and lo mein. Well, really liked this place in the past but I think it's under different management or ownership. Dined onsite twice in last year, food arrived to table cold. The BEST Chinese food in the area! Reasonably priced!! They have a 3-course lunch special which includes soup, egg roll, and entree for 8.95. My husband had the hot and soup soup...which he LOVED! The egg drop soup was also....just so good! He had Kung PO chicken and I had Moo Goo Gai Pan....both wonderful. The egg rolls also delicious. The staff could not have been friendlier! Very nice place! My friends and I went here for dinner, and it was great! Love the classic decor, and the atmosphere is very relaxed yet proper. They had a nice little Tiki drink menu, and I tried a "Suffering B-word". Nice and simple. Not too strong or too fruity., good mix! We tried the Honey Chicken, Orange Chicken, and another dish which I forget the name of featuring thick noodles and 3 types of meat. The prices were higher, but the portion sizes were decent and the quality was top! The chicken dishes were crunchy and had great flavor. The noodle dish was creative, but felt like all the flavors melded together to create one monotonous taste. Still good though! Definitely recommended if you're looking for a casual dinner with upscale Asian taste. read more

Went to JF's on my Mom's recommendation and we thought the food was fantastic, easily comparable with our favorite Peking Gourmet in Virginia with better pricing. Great Peking Duck, Crispy Beef, Egg Rolls among many other options. Only negative - no IPA beer (easily remedied!) Living in Calvert, one of the things you learn to miss is good Chinese food. Mostly takeout, 2 star at best....and Asian Bistro (see my updated review) once a top choice has fallen into the meh zone due to poor service other issues. We tried Jack's Fortune on a recommendation. First the bad, they are about an hour away from us. That is it for the bad. Service was friendly and polite. Appetizers came out quick and were great; the egg roll was hot, really good sized and tasted great. I must confess I tend to be a bit of a snob when it comes to Chinese restaurants and it comes down to one dish - Kung Pao Chicken. The dish is very straight forward - chicken, peanuts, hot peppers...and that is pretty much it. ALL TO OFTEN take out and other places will add a vegetable mix (which is MUCH cheaper then chicken and peanuts) of celery, water chestnuts, etc. - ACK!!!! The Kung Pao at Jack's is spot on - chicken, peanuts, hot peppers in a tasty sauce - YES!!!! FINALLY someplace in the area that makes it right!! Other dishes such as Orange Chicken are equally good; chicken nicely fried yet tender, great orange sauce. Dinner portions are large, so bring your appetite or be ready to take leftovers home. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and I'm enjoying the left-overs today. My personal favorite dishes are the Kung Pao chicken and the crispy beef but you can't go wrong with whatever you order. Holy Vegetable Dumpling! There is always a first for everything. Today was the first time I chowed down on Chow Mein on Christmas Day. If it had to be Chinese Food (this is my boyfriend's family tradition), I'm glad this place made the cut. What I enjoyed: 5 Vegetable Dumplings (Plump & delicious) 5 Bhuddist Delight (like traditional Bhudda's delight, accept they tried to be different and change the name). 5 Vegetable Fried Rice 5 Szetchwan Style Green Beans (I really didn't try Chow Mein, but it sounded good right!?) What a pleasure it is to enjoy screamin good Chinese food that isn't over-cooked, over-salted or over-spiced. Yum! Apparently this place is the boyfriend's family favorite hot spot. A one star review seems a little harsh. And usually I would reserve it for a restaurant that was dirty or completely mistreats their customers. But Jack's Fortune was one of those rare circumstances when I knew after my first to-go order that I would never return again, despite its close proximity, some puffed up reviews on Yelp, and (if their wall is to be believed) 'best in Annapolis' accolades. We all know that Annapolis doesn't serve good Chinese food, Americanized or otherwise. But the sesame chicken and Buddhist delight (veggies) were completely unappetizing. The chicken itself was in a terrible state, with all 4 or 5 giant pieces melded together in some sort of half fried, half drowned sculpture in what must have been a 2 liter bottle of 'sauce.' The carton was generously topped off with about 1.2 million raw sesame seeds floating in that unpleasant great lake of unspecified flavor sauce lake. I'm not even sure I tasted sesame, or really much of anything discernible in this dish. The veggies looked much better, but also came in their own seemingly unflavored sauce concoction that apparently is so good, they think you need enough that you can strain it later and make your very own extra large bottle of unflavored brownish-red sauce. The broccoli were in a terrible state (I assume very low priced, frozen broccoli,) the snow peas were okay, and the string beans were probably the best part of the whole meal - but not enough to make me come back for a full order of competently cooked string beans... To top it all off, our carton leaked half of its Big Gulp volume of sauce, but luckily Mr. Plastic Bag managed to contain the mess (and there was STILL a ton of sauce left in the carton.) The brown rice was different, but I would have preferred white. Didn't even bother to refrigerate the leftovers, definitely not going to want to even look on these goods ever again. Silver lining: we managed to get 2 fairly apropos fortunes from our cookies, so that's something! read more

This order was WAY better than I had remembered! Very fresh and some of the better tasting Chow Fun in the area. Had to up their rating because of that. Ordered takeout and was surprised at how charming this restaurant is. The order was for a large group so I got to taste quite a few things on the menu. Everything was good, especially the shrimp toast. We were supplied with more sauce than necessary but that's never a bad thing. Overall, good food, good ambiance and great service. Like other reviewer have said, the service really is good here and that is the only reason they're getting two stars. The food is extremely bland and some of the heaviest Chinese food you're likely to find (even compared to other Americanized Chinese food places). I've tried probably about 5-10 dishes here and I've both never had anything I enjoyed...most, if not all, dishes are drenched in heavy, nondescript sauces. Like most older people, my parents love this place. I think the nearby nursing home keeps them in business...which perhaps explains the blandness of the food. Unless you're over 60, you will probably not enjoy this restaurant. If, on the other hand, you are an early-bird-special kind of person...you may have just found your go to Chinese restaurant in Annapolis. read more

Jack's probably deserves a 3.5 star rating, but I figured I would round up. This is my go to Chinese stop in Annapolis. The Pros: Some people may say that it isn't authentic, but it is the best Chinese food you are going to find in Annapolis. I normally don't stray far from my comfort zone when it comes to Chinese food. I order a lot of the standards..... lo mein, General Tso's Chicken, Szechuan Chicken, any of their Pork Dishes, and have also tried their Peking Duck. Everything is always delicious in my opinion.
