I had quite a day today so I decided to eat my feelings on carbs tonight. No better place to do that than Jack Astor's. I feel like this restaurant knocks everything out of the park with a consistency that is unmatched. The staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly, and I would be amiss not to mention Falisha's incredible presence and attentiveness to my table. Her service was on point all evening, knowing what I needed and making me feel comfortable and relaxed. She's also really funny and made me laugh. The food was out of the kitchen fast, starting with the garlic cheese bread which I highly recommend. Obviously not healthy for you and obviously I don't care because it's delicious. Following the bread was the loaded nachos which were crunchy, fresh and tasty topped with beef. Last up was the chicken fingers with honey garlic sauce and fries on the side. Lightly breaded chicken fingers, seasoned perfectly and crispy golden fries. Delicious! I've been here before and will come back again regardless of how my day went. read more

When I say exceptional service, it's truly an understatement. I've visited several Jack Astor's locations, but none compare to this one! Dani is outstanding. She greeted us warmly, ensured our drinks were always topped up with the right order, and checked in on us with a constant friendly smile. Haven't been to Jack Astor's in forever, and this is the one chosen to break the streak. The space is separated into dining room and bar area, with some tables bordering the two, which is where we sat. A but awkward to watch the game, but they try. But then, no sound for the game. That sucks, but I guess not surprising. The beer, all macro. Don't be fooled by the sign that says "Craft beer", none on the lost would be craft. The food, wings are decent taste. No flavors that are a stretch, just medium, honey garlic, and coconut curry (which I guess could be called stretching the bounds), but I didn't try it on account it wasn't special. The wings though, decent taste and size. Expensive, but then I guess what isn't these days. The pan bread, not free anymore, but I wasn't expecting it to be. However, this is not pan bread. It's bread served in a pan, but placed on a parchment paper in a pan. It doesn't have the crispy bottom of a pan. More parmesan than in the past. Overall, standard fare, not spectacular but what I'd expect. Plenty of seating though. You shouldn't have an issue getting a reservation or table. read more

A group of us (x6) came here to watch a hockey game one night on a weekday. We asked the staff to put the game on the big screen and turn the sound on and they did! The place was really dead, service was a bit slow, but okay overall. The server didn't seem too engaged. The crispy chicken sandwich and Caesar salad were both good. I would get them again. The pickles on the sandwich made it My friends ordered a pitcher of Coors and another of Canadian, and they were both flat. They then proceeded to order beer from cans/bottles. Overall a pretty normal restaurant experience, there's nothing to stop me from going back (unless I was only going for draught beer), but nothing makes me dying to return if that makes sense read more

I grew up eating at Jack Astors, it's the type of neighborhood restaurant you can pretty reliably know what you are going to get. Nothing it going to be fantastically artisanal cuisine but the service is solid, the food is good, the beer menu is usually pretty decent. For the type of restaurant this is, it's a very solid choice. If you have guests, or are going to eat with family you pretty much know everyone will find something here to eat. This is a definite go to spot for me to eat or take people to. read more

Food was average. Nothing special to write about except the lobster crab dip was good. Nice venue and clean place except for the washrooms which ran out of soap and you had to grab the handle again to get out. Also out of paper towels. And the hand sanitizer. Saving grace was the wonderful servers who were always smiling and genuinely very attentive. Would come back for the service and venue but probably not for the food. Soup was salty! read more

I met a friend for dinner yesterday. We picked this place because of their Craft Beer selection. The evening didn't go well. We had sat down and neither of us had even seen the drink menu when we are asked for a beverage. We ask for a moment. We both get sampler set of 4 Craft Beers. When they arrive the call board on the box is so warn you cannot read which beer is which. No bother but I came across a very good one but I have no idea which one it was. Next we order our meals. There is a snack size menu buried in the dessert menu. I ordered two items my friend orders three snack items. My first part arrives super fast. In fact I am done when my friends threw snacks arrive. Then the server informs me my order is lost? So he runs back to get it going now. My friend wonders when he will be back. The gravy for his poutine is cold. In fact the cheese curds doesn't melt. After 15 mins my friend is almost done and my main arrives. So I now start again as my friend finishes. I think I would like some salt and pepper. Our server? No where to be found. Never asked us how the meal was going or if we needed anything Then after I am done we have to wait 20 mins for our server to reappear to finally get our bills. Just horrendous customer service. Not even an offer to deduct my "lost" meal. read more

Given the Pandemic, I chose to be generous with the 5 stars. Had I ordered it in-house, the rating might be a bit lower, but I recognized that food suffers in those plastic and Styrofoam containers. Our deep fried Calamari appetizers were a pleasant surprise. I had expected them to have the springy, eraser-like texture which epitomizes overcooked calamari. Not these ones, though. They were still tender and flavourful, with just enough tug and chew to provide a satisfying appetizer. Jack Astor's Pickering has clearly perfected the until-now little needed art of timing a dish to take advantage of resting periods, so that it is at its peak, as opposed to waning, when it arrives. Amazingly enough, my husband's steak arrived at a perfect medium rare. Great timing, and shout out to the culinary team! My Miso Salmon Bowl was very refreshing and satisfying, and my daughter enjoyed her Chicken Fingers. All round, Well done, Jack Astor! Great timing on the doneness of delivery orders! Highly recommended if you want a break from cooking, as well as a little indulgence. read more

This Jack Astor's location is by far one of my favourite locations. I've been to a few and this location beats all of the ones that I've been to. Service and food wise. My boyfriend and I came here on Canada Day. We decided to sit on the patio, because the patio at this location is really nice. Especially because it was Canada Day, they had extra decorations, a live DJ, etc. The vibe of this place was really good. Our waitress was kind and attentive. She made sure we had everything and checked up on us here and there. The food was really good! I got the Holy Smokes BBQ Burger with sweet potato fries and it was delicious. The only downfall was that the presentation wasn't that amazing and I felt like they didn't add enough ingredients (looking at others pictures of the Holy Smokes BBQ Burger was much different), however it was still really good. Overall, I would recommend this location to others, especially for them to check out the patio, get food and drinks. read more

This Jack Astor's just recently opened and based on our visit, it appears they're still going through some growing pains. They were out of filters to make coffee so they had to run across the street to Starbucks and their deep fryer wasn't working so french fries were out of the questions... not such a bad thing. We ordered from the following items from the lunch menu: Chicken Club Sandwich with a side salad and Blackberry Balsamic Dressing When I looked at this item on the menu it almost appeared to be a slider but turned out to be more food than I expected. It's served on a toasted focaccia which really added flavour to this club and gave it a nice texture. Definitely not your average club sandwich! The salad was fresh and crisp but the kicker here was the dressing... it was fantastic! I would absolutely order this dish again. The Smiling Buddha This dish was definitely the most bang for your buck! The salad was huge and with the various combination of ingredients it made for a well rounded lunch. Although our clubs were delicious, I think this dish was the envy of the table. Chicken Quesadilla and Salad I wish I had a picture to show you just how unimpressive this dish was. When it was placed on the table I honestly thought, 'what's the point?'. This could not have been made on anything larger than a 6" quesadilla. It contained very little chicken and took only four bites to finish. I've seen appetizers bigger than this. Seriously not worth the money!! For the most part, the food and service was good, considering the shortfalls they had to deal with. They just opened so I'm not going to hold it against them. 3.5 stars. read more

Love the Garlic Pan Bread. It's always been my favourite because I've been scared to try anything else at Jack Astor's locations. I tried the Fajita Bowl today and asked for extra jalepenos. If you're comparing it to Burrito Boyz... please don't. The rice was hard and the vegetarian option didn't seem to have much in it at all. I wish there was a substitute for the shrimp, beef or chicken like tofu or tempeh. Please brace yourself if you're going to get the Fajita Bowl. The sever forgot to bring our water and I ended up getting it when I had already downed all the jalepenos... not a cool move. Also went to the washroom and exactly 3 our or the 4 soap dispensers had no soap in them. Ouch read more

Jack Astor's is one of my favourite bars and this is one of my favourite locations. I work all over GTA and am often in either Woodbridge, Toronto or Pickering. When I'm Pickering I always come to this restaurant because the service is excellent. They also have a great outdoor patio with Muskoka chairs and a fire pit. My favourite dish is the hot wings with sweet potato fries. read more

Food was great! Atmosphere terrific. Slow service, under staffed for a Saturday. Waited 45 min for drinks. Sat with dirty dishes for most of the meal. Manager refused to split my date & my bill. I had a valid mailer coupon for 15$ off 40$+ but manager didn't add it/server explained manager has to okay it but refused (bill was 140$). Very awkward as I insisted please split the bill ...but again manager refused and so server helped my date to figure out the split total at table... not cool. I still tipped 20$ making my bill 160$, but really not pleased and manager definitely didn't treat us like valued patrons... at all. Unfortunately, I won't go back to this location again. Pretty good service on a Monday night, I was sad to see that their menu keeps on changing so much. I really loved the Veg Out Pizza, and was so disappointed they don't offer it anymore. So instead I ordered the famous chicken tenders, which were delicious, unfortunately the fries were pretty dry, but the two sauces they serve with the dish were amazing. Normally when I think of Jack Astor's, it would be a generic American type restaurant with nothing super special. However, the service here is very attentive. I'm not sure if someone decided to use the washroom outside the front entrance that morning because I smelled something really bad as I entered the restaurant. I informed one of the servers and she allowed us to move into another spot. The servers were very nice and chatted with us and took our orders. There were 5 people in our group and all of our food came out as ordered with the exception of one. The servers accidentally took our food to another table. The manager stopped by our table and was very apologetic and comp'd the meal. A few of the waitresses stopped by our table to make sure that we were doing ok, which I appreciated especially for the mistake that they made. If I have friends/family who want to head to a Amercian grill type of restaurant, I would definitely recommend this place as I don't think service can go wrong here. read more

It's a Jack Astors like most. Corporate run restaurants means the quality can be and should be expected to be about the same across the different locations. It's just the service that differs. This place 5 star service everytime! I will say, Beth, our server last last time, though clearly swamped, made sure we were checked up on, and she was super friendly and really offered honest opinions on what dishes she'd recommend based on what we were looking to eat. Really friendly staff who clearly knows her way around FOH, so I hope they do recognize her for it :) same for Quinn who served us this time. He was really friendly and checked up on us just enough not to rush us but remind us of how friendly the staff are here! Please recognize your FOH team!! On busy nights, the hostess writes the time you're seated on the paper too, so I think thats a really smart way to control the timing and make sure they're keeping track of their seating and turn over can go smoother! We started with the calamari which comes with an aoili and also a slightly spicy seafood sauce. The aoili is creamy and a bit citrus-y, while the seafood sauce is very powerful and tangy. I liked having the two sauces to switch between or dip together (i know.. monstrosity!). The calamari is a generous portion and not over breaded. We actually enjoyed this app the most! I've had the Holy Smokes bbq Burger before and it's about the same. I like how they stack it up with the fried onions inside. The fries are a bit bland, but that's why we got ketchup! haha My boyfriend had the Steak Frites. Steak was cooked a bit dry, but not horribly so. It comes with fries that are topped with parmesan and I think they put truffle oil on there. Truffle oil is a bit over powering, but overall, I actually like these fries. Don't have to go dipping them into ketchup or anything. :) Try the tuna sesame rice bowl. I had that another time and it was delicious! I do like to try different places in PIckering since I mostly just visit once a week or so. But if you're looking for a safe bet, Jack Astors is a good stop. The food is just so BLAND. It's no wonder why they display hundreds of hot sauce jars within the restaurant, because both my sister and I added HEAPS of Tabasco just to add some flavour. I'm not a huge fan of hot sauce to begin with, but I found that my dish (chicken fajita bowl) really needed extra flavour. I understand that this is a chain restaurant so my expectations weren't too high, but still I was not expecting a completely flavourless meal. I've given Jacks 2 stars instead of 1 because the service was excellent and definitely above standard. Our server was prompt and friendly. HOWEVER, when the hostess sat us to our tables, we couldn't help but notice that she wrote down the time we were seated right on our table (the tables are covered in that brown paper for kids to draw on). This really confused us and made it seem like the servers and cooks must have been on some kind of time rush? This took away from the dine-in experience, since the time stamp made it seem like we were almost at a fast food restaurant. read more

My wife and I and our 8yr son went around 4:45pm on a sunday, had to wait 15 mns before someone came to take our order, waited another 25 mns just to ask someone where our food was, asked to see a manager and she had to find out on our order, food now comes warm not hot meaning the food was prepared and sitting. And ordered side of gravy which didnt make it to table and was still charged. Yes we were comped the appetizer and my sons meal. And i still tipped server. Probably one of the most happening spots for dinner in Pickering these days. With good reason too, Jack Astors consistently puts out decent food, has a great ambiance and has staff that are always exceptionally friendly and courteous. There are two things for me that consistently put Jack Astors over the top. First the service is really, really good. Lindsay was helping us out during our visit. She was super friendly and really good at making us feel welcome. She was able to explain menu items and was always one step ahead with getting condiments, drinks, extra plates, etc without prompting. The second thing is that the food is very consistent. We shared the short board veggie nachos which were tasty and you didn't actually miss the meat with the generous amount of avocado on it. They aren't your average nachos as they come as individual chips topped with goodies. Some nacho purists might not like this but it's way easier to ensure toppings are evenly distributed and it's a little less messy. We also shared the local Pickering menu special fish and chips. The fish was a deliciously flaky and juicy white fish coated in crispy panko. It wasn't too greasy even with the french fries side. The coleslaw was a great complement to what was a heavily fried main. It was worth noting that there was only one piece of fish but it was pretty big. The restaurant has a pretty fun ambiance overall. You're never out of line of sight of a TV which is usually playing some Just For Laughs reel or sports. There are crayons at every table and you can doodle on the table "cloths" while you wait for your food. The seating is usually pretty comfortable, especially in the booths. If you're ever looking for a casual meal in Pickering, this is is the spot to be! read more
