Well, I had just moved back to Toronto, and had forgotten how much I hated the Dundas Square area, lol. Wow. It says a lot when the nicest place that I could find in the area was a Joey's. Anyway, I sat at the bar and had a calming beverage and ordered their fish tacos. The bartender was very welcoming. All the ingredients in the dish were good, but somehow the salad and the tacos did not taste that great... the ratios were all off, a bit too much gloop and really unharmonious. A shame, because they had everything to make this a good dish! But, it's a Joey's, so my expectations are low. Feels like it's been ages since I visited this location. Its prolly got one of the nicest locations in the city (right in the heart of downtown near Yonge and Dundas Square) Recently, my boss took me and another colleague here for a work lunch as a treat. Ordered the blackened chicken and it was quite good! The chicken was moist, the kale was dressed properly and the warm potato salad underneath was really tasty (the potatoes had crispy exterior like fries). The steak was excellent, perfectly cooked and delicious. There were a lot of lettuce for the wrap, since stuffing for the wrap was a little too salty to our taste, we used double wrap and it was perfect. The place is in a fantastic location in the heart of Eaton. I would say portions are a bit on the small side, but the food is delicious. There is a huge bar in the center and plenty of seating in different areas that break the restaurant up into quick, dark, causal, business zones. Zippo in my neck of the woods. So we walked in, waited a short while for a table and sat down at a booth in the back. Our server Ferrin was a pure delight! Funny, professional, attentive and everything you want to have in a server. I ordered a Yellowfin Tuna Salad plate ($26.75) - a beauty of a dish with seven seared rare tuna slices, mango, peanuts, avocado, crispy wontons, cilantro and a ginger dressing. It was one of the best meals I had in Toronto. My wife ordered the Baja Fish Taco Plate ($20.50) with two tacos, prawns, wild cod, guacamole, and fries. Our two Canadian friends ordered the same and all three of them cleaned their plates. The only quibble we had was one of the taco plates came with luke warm fries, but Ferrin quickly got a replacement for our table. For years Joey's was known for having pretty mid food, but after coming here for the first time in a long time I was pleasantly surprised. We arrived during happy hour for which they have a pretty decent menu, and we shared a few dishes including the steak frites, beef dip, chicken lettuce wraps, and apple pie. All of them were great, though my favourites were the lettuce wraps and apple pie. If you're in the area and feeling hungry, this is a very low risk choice for upscale bar food. read more

My girlfriend and I stopped by Joeys as a last resort to eat out- we came here a few times before but it was always packed, so we were surprised that there were actually tables that were open. Once we were seated, we were given our menus. The waitress took a long time to get back to us- there was a point where we were waiting at least 25 minutes for a drink. We settled for the Chicken Parmesan and a few burger sliders. Honestly, the chicken parmesan was better than I was expecting- the chicken was breaded nicely and it was crispy all around, and I didn't really have any problem with the spaghetti. The sliders were a little dry; there was too much bread to the pint where that was the only thing that I was tasting. I also ordered a non-alcoholic drink (she pretty) and although it was good, it took 25-30 minutes for me to get my drink. The only reason that I gave this review a 3 star-rating was because at one point during our dinner, there was a man that came to our table- we were assuming he was a manager (considering the different coloured shirt he wore and he would go from table to table). He had come to our table and ask us how our food and drinks were, and before I could even answer he left the table, and went to the next table. It's not a serious problem, but it was disrespectful and inappropriate for that kind of treatment to occur in a restaurant. Was offered a complimentary glass of champagne which was nice. The hosts were friendly but did not provide updates on my table. We were not sat at a table until a half-hour later than my reservation time and had to squeeze into a booth instead of the large table that was promised over the phone when making the reservation. Our server did not do regular table checks and we did not receive our first drinks until 11pm. The appetizers were delicious. We ordered the truffle parmesanfries, cauliflower, and Japanese gyoza. The parmesan fries were perfectly seasoned and the gyoza was flavourful and yummy. For main courses, I ordered the spaghetti pomodoro. The pasta was delicious and filling. My guest ordered the chicken Parmesan and found it too spicy to finish. Another guest ordered the sushi and did not receive any utensils or chopsticks to eat them with. He was forced to eat them with his hands! Again, our server did not do very many table checks and left the empty glasses on our table whenever she did come by. The bartender came over to refill drinks and cleared the glasses away which was nice. There was an 18% auto gratuity on our bills due to the party size. I was aware of this (and absolutely agree with auto gratuities for large parties) but I feel that our server took advantage of the auto gratuity and provided sub-par service in return.
