I don't do many reviews but when I do, I prefer dos xx, whoops, wrong review. Not only do I highly recommend this incredibly great surf shop, but I want to say you should only go to Jack's. They are the best in breed when it comes to surfing stores and I can't say eight great things about them. Not only do they carry just about everything you could ever need for your surf experiences, but they donut was class and style. Their inventory is massive and if you can't find what you're looking for here, then you'll never find it anywhere else. You can always tell more about an establishment, doesn't even have to be a surfing shop but any place, hotel, restaurant, airline or where ever it may be by the people that work there. Could even be a Macys or Nordstroms, theatre's or wherever. What tell you the most about a place by the folk that work there. At his location every employee there had a great attitude and knowledge of all surf. Product knowledge that you hadn't even thought of or crossed your mind before. These guys and the teams there are all first rate and world class humans in top of that. I want to especially single out the manager I met today, Zackariah. You couldn't ask for a better guy to be minding the store and Jack's is darn lucky to have him. Zackariah is a high quality work class human and Jacks is darn lucky to have have him. I've never been so impressed by a fellow running a gorgeous store like this or anywhere else. No, I'm not his mother or father or have any relation to him. I'll just a 68 year old guy who was so impressed by Zackariah, what a great biblical name too, that I have to shout this out to all of you potential and probably many customers already established customers. I will never go anywhere else to get gear for my 35 year old son who loves and surfs down in Encinitas, or my 30 year old daughter who's local here to the Santa Monica Bay who does a little surfing too. Zackariah, your employers are so lucky to have a world class guy working for them. I hope your owners read this reach out to give you a call or show some way of telling you you're doing a great job, because you are and your team shows nothing but respect for your leadership. Came here for shorts for my husband they have tons of options and fair prices. We left happy with 4 new pairs.

Loyal customer for years, but my last visit ended that. Management was incompetent and clearly just wanted to get rid of me. The manager, Isaiah, was no help. Their answer to everything was "return it," then reorder, without ever checking with headquarters whether the reorder would be any different. Turns out it's the same product, so now I'm stuck repurchasing the same thing I returned. The staff weren't helpful either, they just want to move you along since their commission is sales-based. My friend was in the market for a new wetsuit. We were helped out and the service was good. He was personable, gave some sizes and brands to try out within the budget, set up the fitting room really easily, and wasn't trying to sell anything to us. The reason it's 3 stars for me is because their selection of wetsuits aren't very competitive. A few brands were missing, sizes were missing, and they didn't carry the latest models. Jack's is a bit iffy for me as I went to Jack's years back and was met with unhelpful employees and kind of soured my experience shopping for surf equipment when I was newer to the sport. The people in the store are great, and the selection is good. But, Jack's corporate is disorganized and annoying. I tried to use a discount code and it took them over a week to give me a straight answer. After a major shoulder surgery, and as a daily swimmer year round, I FINALLY got back in the water and as expected, my great but as -always, skintight wetsuit tops for colder water and weather were all now a real challenge to pull on. I've shopped at Jack's Surboards before and once again, they rocked. Abby, my salesperson, was incredibly helpful. I went in with one brand and style in mind but it was long sold out, there and elsewhere. Abby checked around at the other stores (they will stock transfer) but in the end, she ended up successfully helped find me great alternatives I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Since I'll likely need zip-ups for quite awhile during my long recovery, I ended up buying not one but TWO. The entire staff is super friendly and helpful, in fact. Free parking and a terrific parking lot sale today as well. They have a huge selection of merch at reasonable prices. Thumbs up all the way, Jack's! read more

You've just got a love this place, first off free parking, in a big lot right in front, which is a plus. Inside is neat, abundant with merchandise and the staff is really helpful and chill. First time customer, had issues with sizes for my 5yr old grandson, on the TNMT collection. Your website is not user friendly at all, how are we supposed know our grand-kids, chest, waist measurements? Your customer service personnel lack "customer service" skills. This is the first time I've ever posted a negative review on yelp. This review specifically aimed at a soft top board that they sell with the brand name Alton. Whatever you do don't buy one. The leash plug snapped after the board's fourth session in very small surf. When I called the shop, the sales people said basically that I should go on Amazon and buy a new leash plug. No warranty. No replacement. For two years I had some nice sessions on my Costco wave storm (dorky I know). When the poor thing finally delaminated, they took it back 100%. As much as I hate advocating in favor of a place like Costco over a somewhat local surf shop, I have to do it. I always favor local businesses. Even if I have to pay a little bit more. Avoid this store - great merchandise, but totally lacking any care or priority to retaining or helping a customer. Made my first purchase there (about $300) including a top of line boogie board by Moorey. I surfed resin boards only so never had any experience with boogie boards and they recommended this one (price ranges for boogie boards at this store are high $20s to about $120, so range is wide). Used by my son at surf camp where he used the camp's own birds for first 2 days of the week without fail. Used this one and first day blown up - came to store to ask if anything can be done - the young guy at front desk immediate response was "you left it in the sun that's what happens" - to which I said a "great, that means you expect this kind of damage so how come when we bought it no one said anything or advised us about it?" His answer : "anyone who buys a boogieboard knows this"... I really were left speechless to that bc They gave much so much advice buying wetsuit and booties for a kid I would expect something so trivial to come up...? Hence what you expect from a pro store ca say shopping at Amazon? The end result - no showing any sign of wanting to help or take any responsibility (his friend has same brand boogie board just lighter color so I guess it can be left in sun without damage but ours was black so sun really hit it hard I guess) Only words were "it's your problem you can call the manufacturer " Well thanks for the warm attitude and my advice to anyone shopping there - use them to measure and go shop online bc you are NOT paying for neither pro advice nor customer care or service. Specifically because they are adhering to a return-rule which makes zero sense... they want folks to wait three days before returning because somehow that makes it safer vis-a-vis Covid. Happened to hear about this location from some locals. Arrived to the storefront to witness a vast selection of goods and gear for any activity you can think of. My friend and I came to this place to try and find a full wetsuit! I was pleasantly surprised to find such a large selection of quality surfing apparel for an affordable price! Fitting rooms were available to try on the merchandise (which is a lifesaver during these times) and the staff was very accommodating and helpful picking out the correct size. We had two great experiences here. Because of Covid we called first to ask if they had what we were looking for. They asked for my son's weight and quickly checked and verified they had the sizes were looking for! The first time we got a new skim board which was very affordable and works great. Then we went back to get a new wetsuit. They had a beautiful, high quality suit on sale for 30% off. And it fits perfectly! We also got new wheels for my son's skateboard. Great selection and a huge store. Big problem: very tiny section for women and two huge rooms full of men's wear. Not sure how this place stays in business that way and the employees also agreed there needs to be a larger women's section. Have great standard surf brands and new styles. I called first & explained to Aidan what I was looking for, a shortie wetsuit that was in my price range. I was really glad I bought it in person bc when I tried on the O'neil it was not comfortable & felt like it was choking me!! The price of my wetsuit was only $10 more than what I could've bought online on clearance, & definitely worth it bc I was able to try it on & get it same day!! Wow....1st time these and taken by a buddy. Now I have been body surfing religiously for 3 summers everyday. After the current fins I had starting hurting my feet I asked around and there were two names that came up when you ask people with experience in the ocean. It's Dafins or The Churchill Makapuu fins. The buddy I was with said to try the Dafins and because of that not being the 1st time I heard their name...I made the purchase. After a half hour in the water I learned they weren't for me. It's maybe because my kick isn't strong enough or that there just too rigid. I called Jacks just now and told them that I literally wore these fins for a 1/2 hour and took them off and put them back in the box and asked could I exchange for the more expense Churchill's ? The answer was no. I asked if I came in and you saw the condition and there was no sign that they had any wear would you be open to the exchange...even with a restocking fee. The manager says no again I was told. And this is why companies will continue to go out of business that don't want to even attempt to work with a client. I honestly had a good feeling when I made my purchase and they likely would have been my go to place for my needs as I continue to increase my needs as my skills and love for the water grow. Wetsuits, neoprene socks and more. Now this company can kick rocks and any body I see in the ocean and in Venice every single day when the conversation comes up, I'll tell them not to go to Jacks. Never ever written a view but I run a business and always always work with my clients and that's why I have been in business for over 30 years. Incredibly frustrating experience. I recently purchased a set of Rip Curl booty's, the SOS Slide on System Flash Bomb 3mm however, after each surf session (three now) they fill up with about 4oz of water. There is no way I can continue using these as they are seriously defective. When I explained this, and showed them photos, they basically just said; "well, that's unfortunate but there is nothing we can do, its up to you to resolve it with Rip Curl, not us." I have made it a point to support my local surf shop so have always purchased products over the years at Jack in Santa Monica. However, that seems to mean very little to them based on their attitude and interest in helping to resolve this issue for me. They do not stand by their product so I will not support them moving forward. I suggest you look for your products elsewhere too as the next defective purchase could be yours. read more

i did a ton of research on women's fullsuits for surfing before going to the store. so i knew in advance i wanted GBS, 3/2mm, etc. it's quite complex, so i recommend all neophytes do some/alot of research before buying. i can see where an employee having to explain the complexities of wetsuits to the uninitiated might lead to a bad attitude [although i bet the employee that one yelp person complained about was probably not from california, so she might have had a bad attitude in general -- after years of research on this very topic, i have discovered that if someone is rude to you in los angeles, there are NOT califorian. what i usually say is: "oh, you're from out of state" [which is polite, yet subtly cutting] & they are struck dumb because they don't know how you know. what i've aaalways wanted to say, but haven't used yet is: "you don't deserve to live here--tourist go home!". i invite you to ask next time wom arbitrary l.a. resident is rude to you & you will see for yourself. i assume all these rude bumpkins have taken behavioural cues from melrose place, etc., that purport to represent los angeles. they do not.] armed with my fresh knowledge, i asked miles, a local boy & patient, rockin' employee, for help finding a fullsuit that would accommodate my curvaceousness. having established before i went to jack's that a size 10 was the closest that might work, he found the brand with a size 10 closest to my measurements [unfortch for women who are not of svelte and willowy physique, finding a proper wetsuit is even harder because all the brands have different permutations of sizing.] the rip curl fit like a glove. it was a huge relief because i'd come to the conclusion that i might be too tubby to be accommodated by an off-the-shelf wetsuit. looking forward to being taught to surf by my expert niece. read more

I bought fins for body surfing, which no one helped with, and was quite excited. Not one employee told me I could not return if I didn't like them. Well I didn't and they wouldn't. The store is really great and have everything you expect from a surf shop. Great selection, fair/competitive prices and a very knowledgeable staff. Luke knows his boards and will make sure you get set with the right equipment for you without pushing anything. The store is VERY well organized, really big, it's hard to imagine something you won't find in there. They have parking (which is absolute gold around the Santa Monica/Venice area!) and the location is also very convenient. Awesome selection not so awesome customer service. My husband and I were here purchasing over $350 in merchandise when I asked to use the restroom while he was being rung up. The kid at the register thought about it for a moment then said "no, but the Starbucks a few blocks away does." I'm 6 months pregnant so walking a few blocks away down Lincoln, to use the restroom is a bit daunting. As a paying customer (of a decent size sale) I just found it pretty petty and bad form to tell me I'd have to go somewhere else. Icing on the cake was they're we're having a sale this day and as we were paying we asked about the discount to be applied. The same sales guy asked us to see the email we had received about the sale. When my husband pulled it up he said "never mind I trust you I dont need it" Made me wonder was this protocol? Why did he even ask? Just another hoop, I'm not sure. We left with a somewhat sour taste in our mouths and will probably look for another place to purchase from in the future. read more

Great board shop with a huge selection. I went in looking for solarez to fix a small ding on my board and I left with a the resin and a new traction pad. The shop has a huge selection of clothes from all the name brands. Good selection of shoes and of course surfboards. They had a solid bunch of short boards / fun boards and long boards. Their selections of Stewart fun boards got my heart racing. The prices are reasonable but not as good as their outlet store down in Huntington. Can't complain having such a large store local right here off Lincoln. Check it out if you are in the area read more

Went to the grand opening of Jack's Surfboards in Santa Monica. They did a great job of opening their doors and welcoming the community to a day of fun games, giveaways, music, and tacos! Oakley, Volcom, LRG, RVCA, Billabong, Element, O'Neill, Roxy, Quicksilver, Vans, Smith Optics, and many more I can't remember were all there to represent! The entire store was 20% off and I ended up picking up some stuff. Definitely a huge selection of surf boards, skateboards, and apperal.
