Signed up for the rewards, WAY TOO MANY texts, emails, etc. App is janky, sales advertised are often not reflected in the app and/or website merchandise. All staff at the store were nice and polite, have bought a few boards here in the past few years. I guess last straw for me is the line/collaboration with Huntington Beach Police Department. Of all organizations/causes to align yourself with, this is a weird one to me. Hard to imagine HBPD needs additional funds; how about some ecological organizations? This place has a large selection of clothes for men, women, boys and girls. There is plenty of parking on the north side of their building. There is also street parking but only at certain times. Make sure you check the street signs and know what day it is before you park on the street. They also have military discount. read more

They've got a great selection of surf "stuff" - mostly clothing labels connected with surf culture. Which is exactly what I was looking for. But good luck getting anything even remotely related to customer service. I had to hunt down someone just to let me go try something on. Only to overhear his conversation with another "brah" about this materialistic girl he met... the fact that he was working in a commercial establishment full of material things definitely lost on him. And that was the last interaction I had with him as I went back and forth finding the clothing I wanted in the size(s) I needed with no help from him or anyone else in the store. Who all seemed, to quote Prince, "busy doing nothing". Once I decided on my items, I went to the cash register and was checked out fairly efficiently, if a little awkwardly by the lady running the register. Took the kid here last weekend , always find what we are looking to get ( and usually a little more ) . Good variety of popular brands in many varieties of swim gear , shorts , shirts , hats and more. Have a decent shoe selection of vans and one thing really like , usually have the size you are looking for. The staff is very friendly , not to much , just right to see when you need help and willing to do it. Always a great vibe and a place we like to start our shopping when we go. My wife and I are brand new to the Hermosa Beach area and I've been wanting to get into surfing as soon as we moved here. Jack's is the closest surf shop to us so we thought we'd give it a try. Upon entering the wetsuit section and asking for some help, we were immediately greeted by Marcus. We ended up talking with him for over an hour. He was so incredibly passionate, knowledgeable and hilarious. He not only gave me a lot of hope for my surfing aspirations but for life in general. I came in to look for a soft top for my daughter's fifth birthday at the end of the month. I found the perfect board, but they said they could only hold it for 4 to 5 days. The manager (I'm disappointed b/c I can't remember her name right now even though she told me her name) and I started talk about my daughter amongst other things and the manager said, "You know what, we'll hold the board so she can have it for her birthday." This establishment should be closed for good! They have to be one of the worst so called "surf shops" I have been too. Not only are the workers super rude and full of themselves, it seems as if they never learned how to deal with customers or perform at least a little customer service. REALLY OVERPRICED! I was surprised how much merchandise was, even the shops merch was super expensive and the quality was terrible. I barely even touched one of the graphics and it smeared off. Is that the quality you want to spend good money for? I went to local shops after and saved so much money from driving down the street 2 minutes. Save your time and even your money and shop local. Took our sons on a surfboard hunt and stopped at Jack's as our 1st of 3 stops. Marcus greeted us at the surfboard section of the store and we were so glad he did! He asked the boys multiple questions to get a sense of their skill level, confidence level, etc and made recommendations accordingly. He explained the boards, the physics behind the designs, different beaches to go to for beginners, which type of wax to use and why...etc. He was so knowledgeable and helpful. My wife lost the fin off of her Inflatable SUP. We called every local place and couldnt find a replacement. We called Jacks as a final attempt and EUREKA! Although they didnt have the exact replacement, Marcus and Chris took a fin into their shop and adjusted the fin to fit perfectly. Its easy for them since they make their own products. Well $45 for a replacement fin of better quality really saved our beach day. THANKS Jacks! read more

First time being here and was looking for a wetsuit to buy, I visited other surf shops each recommending me sizes that didn't fit. I called around 9:20 am and spoke to Maurice over the phone and recommended me a wetsuit size for my first time surfing plus affordable and the right thickness (4:3). I have moved to Hermosa recently (2years) and always shopped at the nearby neighbor. I went to Jack`s a couple of times and it was OK. Signed out to their newsletter and rewards program. Today I went there with my daughter for her 1st wetsuit. Marcus was at the wetsuit area and helped us with some suggestions, tricks and opinions. He chose the right sizes and was very attentive. I had planned to check other surfshops but after being helped by this guy i just couldn`t. We bought a very nice wetsuit that was exactly what we needed. I've been passing Jack's Surfboards shop for 7+ years and I never took the opportunity to go in. Today I did. Glad I did. The store has a HUGE selection of surf, skateboard, and casual clothes. They also have a large selection of surf boards, shoes, and skate board items. This has to be one of the largest and widest selection of surf/skate lifestyle clothes that I've seen in a long time! Customer service was excellent. Employee Sara took the time to answer several of my questions and to offer me alternatives for items that they didn't have my size. The was one other male employee who also offered to help. Great service! The prices are what is to be expected for skate / surf clothes - Swim trunks cost about $50-60, walking shorts $50-60, sweat pants $50, caps $28-34. It's a bit on the high side, but prices are what other stores in the area offer. There were also 3-4 large sale rack items chalk full of surf shorts, walk shorts, sweaters, tshirts, etc. Product Grade: A (great selection, cool items). I wanted a new board so I went to Jack's to see what they had. I saw a couple Lost Glydras that I was interested in. A guy named Marcus who works there really helped me out. He was super friendly and very thorough with what size board and what type of fins would work best for me. He even tested different leashes on my ankle and went outside to see what roof rack I had and what roof rack pads would work best. Marcus really took his time and asked me a lot of questions. Where I surf, what type of surfer I am, etc. Driving home I was so happy I ran into him. I knew I had a board that was not going to let me down. read more

They have a great selection of surfboards, skateboards, wetsuits, and general men and women's clothing. They are a bit higher priced however I find that to be offset by the knowledgeable and helpful staff. They're open later than a lot of shops which makes them a convenient stop after work. Customer service at the Hermosa Beach store and corporate office was top notch. Extremely helpful, professional and patient. Kayla, Isiah great people. Nichole (corporate) very helpful. Background- purchased a Volte wetsuit at the Dana Point store, it tore at the seam within a month and wetsuit company warranty stated you can take it back to vendor to get store credit or replace. Contacted Hermosa Beach store- Kayla, manager and I explained I'd like to bring it in to get another suit. She kindly said Jack's doesn't do that and recommended I contact Volte. I explained the warranty and conflict between Jack's and Volte's warranty and she said Jack's doesn't accept any suits if they've been in the water. She gave me corporates number, took her time chasing down the receipt in the system, scanned it and emailed it to me. I explained the situation to corporate and they contacted Volte - no response from Volte to date. Long story short, got a response from Jack's corporate, an apology from Jack's as they were not aware of the warranty Volte, store credit and most helpful staff from Hermosa Beach. I was on the hunt for some sunglasses as I am going out of town within the next couple of days and needed a pair to replace my broken ones. I went to the Spyder shop that was up the street but all the employees were too pre-occupied with other things, so I just left. I was heading down PCH, trying to figure out another place that'd have sunglasses. I looked to my left and saw Jack's Surfboards. It looked like the kind of surf shop that'd have sunglasses, so I gave it a shot. I walked in and went straight to the sunglasses display and a man named Marcus was the one who recognized I needed help. He let me try on different ones and gave a couple of recommendations. Nice guy. The rest of the employees seemed like they were just going through with the motions. I walked out with a pair and it was $75. Their sunglasses aren't badly priced. I didn't look at the rest of their product but there's clothing and other surf stuff (naturally). I was glad this place was here, I REALLY didn't feel like going to the Del Amo Mall for a pair of sunglasses (or for a pair of anything for that matter). read more

Of course Jack's store was extremely organized and clean (as any corporate store should be), but where Jack excels in organization, he completely lacks in surfboards; the very thing his store is named after. This place has tons of surfboards and shoes like their other locations. Great customer service, although too many people asked me if I needed help and it was kind of overwhelming. ****DEAR OWNER: CLEAN HOUSE; HIRE ALL NEW STAFF**** I took my sister here to purchase a wetsuit. As soon as we walked in, I noticed there were four teenagers/employees in the cashier area and none of them said "Hello" or "Can I help you?" Not a huge deal - we just looked for the wet suit area ourselves. We were trying to find a specific BodyGlove suit we saw on Jack's website. After 5min of looking through the wet suits, I asked her, "Don't you find it kind of annoying that there are four employees here and no one has offered help? It's like a bunch of little kids run the store." I didn't realize one of those little kids/employees was actually standing about 10ft from me. He was hiding back in the wet suit area and TEXTING. He heard me but walked away.... instead of helping us. That is also when I realized there were SIX people working! We ended up finding an amazing wet suit at Sports Authority (after going to two other board shops). They were able to order the right size and the price was reasonable. For as much surfing and beach sports as our family does, I will NEVER go back to Jack's. I will also deter our friends and family from going there. Even though the economy has gotten a tiny bit better, there are still so many unemployed people you can hire that are MATURE, FRIENDLY, responsible and will actually HELP your customers. read more

I had just left Surf Concept and had forgotten Wax. I have seen Jack's in passing for over a year; I was on the way home and passed Jacks so I figured I would stop. I have passed this place an easy 50-100 times and never once have I seen the parking lot even 1/2 full so I figured I could get in and out quickly. I pulled into the parking to find it once again empty. I walked in and this is my first impression, I thought this place deserved to be in a mall competing with stores that sell board shorts and surf related clothing. The employees did not look like surfers they looked like High School students who were working here because it is the cool thing to do. Jack's had products stacked upon products; it was a state of clutter everywhere. If you are standing in the middle of store there is no chance you can see the exits based on the clutter. I did not look all that hard but I did not even see surfboards on display. I bought my wax and got out of there. I ended up picking up a KE11Y sticker for a window at home that is decorated with surfing stickers. My bill for 2 bars of cool sticky bumps and a sticker was $3.09. Jack's has its own parking lot which as I stated is never full so parking will never be an issue. You can either access Jack's from PCH or the private parking lot. When you stack Jack's up against Surf Concept, Becker or El Porto Surf Shop this place can't even see the mark. I honestly felt like I was in a Department Store with people asking can I help you, can I help you. I do thank you for being on the ball BUT I just was not vibing this place AT ALL. I moved down here from NorCal a couple years ago, so I don't really know about all the other local surf shops being pissed about Jacks taking over the area nor do I understand it. In my opinion, it's immature and everyone needs to get over it. Everytime I come in this place the staff is always friendly and helping me if i need anything.I work retail right now and I can tell you the people at my work aren't as good as these guys. Their selection is more than i could ask for. To the people who are pissed about returns...come on- it's more than common to have a no cash back policy. And, yes - DUH YOU NEED A RECEIPT. Why wouldn't you? Who cares if it has the tags on it, how does anyone know if you stole it or not? And if you are that dense in the head to the point where you cant open your eyes and look for the surboards, that's your dumb ass fault. People who are mad about these things clearly have never worked in retail to understand how businesses work. Educate yourselves before you come post things on here. And i hate when people get mad at the young girls in there (i witnessed this today). They are sales associates, not God. They are doing what they are told so they don't get fired. All you people get mad because you aren't getting what you want and think if they get mad at somebody younger it will make them feel better. What if that was your kid? You would be pissed if somebody talked to them the way you did. Clearly PV and MB moms who are spending their husband's money are leaving these comments. If you want popular surf brands at the best price offered, you can go to either Jacks or Costco. Just be prepared to sell your South Bay soul. If you could care less, then have at it. Just know that you will be advertising to all the locals that you don't get it. In food terms, you are choosing McDonald's over In-N-Out Burger. Let me suggest Dive 'n Surf, Becker's, Spyder, ET Surf and Surf Concepts as stores that have roots in the South Bay and won't make you look like you just moved here. read more
