Horrible experience. My board was returned to me in worse condition than when I dropped it off. Do yourself and Don a favor, and take your business somewhere else. Kennedy's, Rider Shack, and Val Surf all provide excellent service. If you're willing to wait six months for minor touch-ups, deal with repeated missed pickup promises, and listen to endless excuses, then this is the place for you. Don is super talented. Brought over an old Encinitas twin fin looking pretty beat, he seemed stoked on the board and the potential for it to come back to life. The nose and tail had low quality repairs, the rails were all smashed and the fins were loose. Don thought it might be from the late 70s/early 80s era and said he'd see what he could do. Picked it up yesterday and am so pumped. It's nice enough to hang up for show but I can't wait to surf it all over the place. Rather than taking my money or having me come in to get my board repaired, Don encouraged me to keep working on a repair myself and talked through some ideas with me. I had two rounded out fin screws and had a disastrous time getting them out myself. I called up Don and he spent time with me talking about various options and techniques. I finally got those fin screws out and I called him up later to give him the status update. He was just a cool, upbeat guy to talk with and really just encouraging. Don isn't just going to fix your board, he's going to try and educate you about how to fix things yourself...saving time and money and just making you a more self-sufficient surfer. Don is really awesome. My board was worked over on last day surfing in Hawaii before move to Los Angeles. Shapers in Hawaii said that the board was twisted and could not be put back together. Don resurrected my Merrick Rook 15 for $100.00. Saved a $700 board. I can't really tell that there is any change in the board. Don used a minimum amount of resin so that there is no change in weight. After reading the reviews on here and hearing horrible things about AquaTech, my friend and I decided to give Don a try. I really messed up my brand new CI Double Helix Flyer by surfing in a shallow/rocky part of Malibu. I know... I know... so dumb. The place looked too good to be true. Perfect peeling waves and only a couple guys out. Now I know why! Huge boulders coming out of nowhere! Anyways, I gashed a 6-inch hole in the bottom and almost folded the board and am lucky I didnt kill myself in the process. Don was confident he could fix it back to almost physical perfection but it would definitely have some visual imperfections (understandable). He gave me a very reasonable rate. When I picked it up, it was exactly as he said it would be. Its in better shape than I could of hoped for and he even cleaned the deck for a fresh coat of wax. Ive broken other CI boards before and had them fixed by CI in Santa Barbara and id say Don did just as good of a job for a way better price. For my friend, he ripped his fin off the same day by hitting a rock as well. It was an older board so Don made note of other spots that needed work and gave him a great deal. You'll basically get what you should expect from the other good reviews. Great quality and a great price. Also, be careful surfing Malibu. Don is the Best....but remember for the best you have to WAIT! He is a one-man shop; so there is no one but him which will touch your surfboard. We had him to an surfboard which was not going to be used for surfing but as a decoration on a building. He took his time because he wants to make sure that it is good enough to pass "his eyes". But if you are in a rush, it will be hard pressed to get in front of the line since he likes to take his time with all his clients. Don is a great guy and is very knowledgable. I took my swallow tail Merrick to him a few months ago. My asshole roommate had completely smashed the tail. Stringer was broken and everything. Don completely reshaped the tail back to its original state. Here's where real customer service comes into play. I had been traveling for some time and had not contacted Don to check the status. Finally, about 4 months later I contacted him only to find out he had gotten rid of the board. (standard practice for most board shops is to clear out inventory if not claimed in 30 days) Don quickly got the board back and I picked it up the next day. I put a sizable gash in my grandfather's pristine 8'6" board from the 80s while borrowing it (on my college winter break) and Don did an incredible job fixing it. He got me back in the water in a matter of days and helped me not get in a ton of trouble with my grandpa. As everyone has stated, Don is indeed the man. He gave me a ridiculously good deal on a used 9'2" Kennedy that I picked up. Probably 10+ dings, pressure dings, scratches, peeling / cracking enamel - all repaired for $150. In addition to getting a fantastic deal on my surfboard repair, we sat chilling out in his place listening to old jazz LP's for over an hour when I dropped my board off. Should be 4.5 stars, because from time to time his repairs can take quite a while (this one took a couple of months, though it WAS somewhat extensive...).
