My experience with Rapha is mixed. While I like this store, in hindsight, I wish I hadn't purchased from Rapha's website. The return experience really tainted my perception of the brand. Generally, the merchandise is priced at a premium. That's not unusual for bike racing gear. What's lacking, online at least, is a spirit of generosity and cameraderie. I've switched to Canyon Bicycles for all my purchasers. While I'm considering rejoining Rapha's cycling club, I still need to process the return experience I had. read more

Great cycling clothing and accessories shop with a cafe! First time here and loved it. I came in for a pair of 3/4 pants and ended up leaving with four items. Parking was readily available at one of the many public parking lots and street meters. The store was well organized, adequately stocked, modern and clean. In the center of the shop, was a cafe! Comfy seating, indoor bike parking, info on organized rides, great staff who ride, etc . make it a clubhouse. Alan was there at the time of my visit. He was super helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the products in the store. He made trying on clothing a breeze and ensured that I selected the proper size. *Ralpha runs big on me. I usually purchase my cycling wear online. I am happy I made the drive. This was a wonderful shopping experience. If you are a cyclist and you haven't been here, I highly recommended at least one visit. :) read more

I wish I caught their names. On the morning of 11/9 - both gentlemen (including the barista) were so helpful. My husband and I are beginner cyclists and we went in to try on bibs and jerseys - not really knowing how it should fit and what we actually needed. The Rapha employee didn't push anything on us but explained fit and material. Didn't hesitate to bring us extra sizes to try on and gave us so many tips. We walked away feeling so good about our purchase (including the 20% off AND a free gift!!). Thank you Rapha for being so kind to us. I'm rating Rapha women's cargo shorts, NOT the actual store. I've been to the store and the employees are great. I've ordered literally hundreds of dollars of Rapha women's bike shorts online over the past several years and I always have the same issue - the stitching on the chamois comes out after wearing the shorts ONCE; and the fabric develops holes after a short time. I've contacted customer service online many times over the past 4 weeks and have not gotten a response, other than their initial response asking for photos and more info, which I provided, and telling me they value their customers. I'm frustrated and disappointed at Rapha's lack of interest and lack of resolution, especially considering the high-end nature of these shorts. I am unwilling to keep fixing these shorts myself, and unwilling to spend this kind of money on poor quality shorts and even worse customer service. Come on Rapha, do better! read more

Stopped by needed a new set of bibs. Staff was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Tried a few different options before making a selection by adding a second item I received a 15% discount on the entire purchase. The items I selected felt light and extremely comfortable on my first ride wearing them. Only drawback, not cheap, I'll let you know how they hold up. read more

Came into the Santa Monica Rapha location for the second time. Was instantly helped by Niko/Nico. I have an unorthodox torso so finding a jersey is always complicated. He automatically pointed me towards a 2 options that fit like a glove for me. Got some new water bottles and he offered to rinse them out for me and fill them with some filtered water. I am a career cyclist since I was very young and for a long time I have been seeing other road bikers with Rapha Bibs. Finally got some time to stop in last week and find out what is going on. Free 1.5 hours of parking across the street in the Santa Monica garages. Before coming here I studied the Bibs on their website and you should too. I worked with 2 salesmen, and here is the short and skinny on what you need to know about their offerings: The original Bib that contains the famous chamois that build the brand is called the Core ($135.00). That is their lowest cost Bib. Next up is the Classic ($230). The Classic has the same famous Rapha chamois as the Core but according to the salesman has better spandex material but also has the old fashioned rubber leg grips from back in the day when we used to wear shorts with leather chamois. The salesman said that shaved legs are best for these tight grips. At the top of the line are the Pro Shorts ($270.00) with a special 3D Chamois (not the original Chamois). The salesman said these are for cyclists that ride mainly in the drops. The fitting room was well lit and tried them all on going back and forth for 30 minutes. I was really not concerned with price--what I was concerned with was how comfortable they are and exactly where the chamois hits my sit bones--key factor. What no salesmen here will tell you and you will not read about or see on their website is the that Core and Classic have a Chamois design that may be under protected patent? they don't want it copied, and is nothing like any Chamois you have encountered with any other Bib--it's what sells the short. Not since the days of leather Chamois (which I wish would come back) have I found a Bib Short like the Core and Classic that actually covers and protects my sit bones like these Rapha shorts do. They cover the sit bones with room to spare and don't add any excess padding to areas you don't need it. Unlike other bibs that use a one piece chamois sewn in because its cheaper to do it that way, Rapha instead does it by sewing in two independent floating pads contoured around the sit bones and also padding the upper inner pelvic area that may contact the seat if you slide forward on to the thin part until you can rebalance. They removed the usual excess padding that other one piece shorts have that bunches in the middle that can cause irritation and pressure on the perennial area. Its a very unique Chamois design that no one else uses. For me, after all the try on--the Core fit me like a glove--like it was custom made--could not feel or fit better--so I went with that one. Now the salesmen for some reason tried to talk me into getting the more expensive Classic. He reasoned that Rapha had to remove all the quality from the Core short construction in order to give me the same incredible Chamois that is the Classic at such a low price of $135.00. He discouraged me from buying the Core and thought that the Classic was a better way to go. I would have paid for the Classic, but it did not fit me well so I went with the Core and it's been riding well--I don't really want to use my other Bibs anymore mainly because they do not cover my sit bones as well and perfectly as the Rapha Chamois. I may have to get another Rapha soon? Now a word on sizing--I am a Large in all Bibs--except for Rapha! Rapha large is too large--Medium is the perfect fit for me. Keep that in mind--that you may be a size down for Rapha. As far as the sales people--they are fine. They don't explain things in the detail like I did here but between the two I was able to put things together to make the call. As far a returns--salesman told me it's 90 days, but if you take one ride in them or wash them one time--you own them. As far as the Chamois performance--excellent as I described but with one caveat--I have been riding them in heat and if you perspire down there--the Chamois really absorbs water. So much so, that after a 2 hour 80 Degree fast paced ride around Brentwood, I was almost able to wring out water from the Chamois like a sponge. I am not sure if that is a function of the Chamois or the Bib Material not breathing--but it was damp. I have washed the Core a couple of times and it has held up well--I did notice that the rubber leg grips stretched out a bit, but you only notice it when standing and not on the bike. If I was you--I would come and check out these Bibs if you have not before--Especially if your current bib is not protecting you well down there or is uncomfortable. I really wish the other Bib Manufactures would use the same Chamois placement as Rapha--I don't know why they don't again unless it's protected by patent? read more

I have been waiting for Rapha to come to Los Angeles for a while. Their high end cycling gear aside, I enjoy their approach to building and tapping into the existing cycling community. For $200 you get the RCC (Rapha Cycling Club) membership and can get a free coffee every day if you like, a place to hang out with wifi, $25 a day bike rentals of high end canyon bikes all across the country. My plan is to finish my rides and have a coffee. When I travel to SF, Chicago, or NY I will rent a canyon bike so I don't have to take my bike across the country. I also look forward to meeting other cyclists in Los Angeles. The staff I met today were nice, knowledgeable, and seem genuinely interested in cycling culture. My last rating got deleted because it claimed I had no experience with the actual store location. Let me set that record straight. I've always thought that the people working at the Santa Monica clubhouse are great, as I mentioned in my first (censored) review. In fact, I've probably been in the store over 40 times and bought a fair amount of kit from them as well, and never thought they were anything but completely professional. My review is for the company as a whole, so if it is removed it will be entirely due to their pressure. This company has zero sync with their retail locations, which means you won't be able to solve your problems with the local store if you have any questions related to online purchases. And yes, it's a store not a clubhouse, in spite of what you'd be told. The store itself is clean, well laid-out, and offers great coffee and extras. I've always enjoyed dropping in on the way home. It is meant to be a hangout, which it is, but I get why many of the reviews feel the elitist vibe. I never felt that way, but I've always been on a bike. Sadly, their online experience has destroyed any and all of the trust that the guys in the Santa Monica location work so hard to build. This company is a customer service disaster, PERIOD. I called fifteen times over the last month and a half and never once succeeded in getting a single person on the phone. I've sent multiple emails and finally heard back after over a month. The lesson is DO NOT BUY ONLINE. Buy in the store, and be VERY clear on what your return options are because if they're anything like the online process, it will not be easy to return or replace. This makes me so sad to write because I truly believe the employees are also riders. Every single interaction with them, discussing the course at Grinduro or scouting routes through Malibu, has been informative and real. They make great coffee, create a real community, and genuinely love cyclists. I'm sorry they have to constantly field questions about online purchases, but there isn't a retail company in the country that operates with this level of dysfunction. read more

I ordered a hot chocolate with soy milk with my boyfriend. It was super rich and decadent. There was a good foam to hot cocoa ratio. The prices are competitive yet still more affordable than Starbucks. My barista was able to make a heart with the foam, which was a nice touch considering soy milk does not have as much fat as dairy milk. I came in to meet with a friend and decided to go for some water which apparently they ran out of. The worker told me "we ran out sorry" but didn't offer me a water behind the bar so I had to ask him to pour me water which is pretty stupid. My friend met with me and needed water so I went back to the bar and asked this Tall guy for water named RAÚL? ROL? whatever- the dude wasn't doing anything and stood behind the counter on his iPad and made me wait. Another worker came around, smiled and asked if I needed anything. I bought clothes and coffee here in the store. But they were very unkind. When I ordered an espresso and asked to change it to a to-go cup, the barista offended me by saying it was a waste. I really can't say enough about how rad raphas la shop is. I'll try to address the most major of reasons why. 1. Cool staff. I've dealt with both roel and Elijah who are both very helpful and overall chillers. You might expect a relatively snobby group of employees at a high end store like rapha, but that's 100% not the case at all. 2. Super high quality products. Rapha has it down on all fronts. Try anything from gloves to a body suit on and you can immediately feel the attention to detail and outrageous comfort that really sets rapha apart from most cycling brands. It's hard to describe how awesome and breezy a Summer weight jersey that's like 40% merino wool feels. 3. They stand by their products. I had a small hole develop in the fabric around the chamois on some bibs I purchased after a couple of weeks of riding. I took them in and Elijah exchanged it no questions asked. 4. Price. This is a contentious point for rapha to be sure. People act like it's the most expensive kit they've ever seen when, really, it's about the same as any other high end kit. When coupled with their return policy, it's really a good value for your money. 5. The cycling club. I haven't joined yet, but given that my travel schedule is increasing I may soon. Having a home base in so many different cities where you can rent real road bikes for $25/day and get a free cup of coffee is an unparalleled offer. There's no one out there actively fostering a cycling community like rapha is, despite all the negativity from the old guard of cycling. Whether you've never heard of rapha and you're just reading this review, or you're a seasoned hater, I highly recommend you go in and see what's up for yourself. read more

I'm a member for some time now and I drive to the Santa Monica store maybe twice a year (as I'm in Irvine area). so for me its always an experience. I drove to the shop last Sunday to pickup a pair of limited edition socks and I wanted to see if they have some limited edition jersey's that I was not able to acquire online. I was greeted by an associate that immediately assisted me in browsing the inventory, he was very attentive and helped me locate a limited edition annual Jersey that I wanted for some time now.
