Service gets the stars. Don't know what happened because past reviews brought me there but man, the fries were hard and almost black, catfish fried to death, and cornbread dry and crumbly. The beans were not cooked by the regular cook. They were good. Service, 3 stars; food quality, 1 star. That said I'll probably be back to see if anything has changed. read more

First the customer service was good I'll give it that . Ambiance was like being in someone's kitchen so take that as you will. However I was very disappointed in the food . The look was definitely not impressive at all. I ordered the pulled pork with Mac& cheese and greens. The meat looked dry and it was .. the greens had no seasoning or flavor nor did the Mac& cheese . My friends chicken salad was iceberg lettuce with a couple tomato chunks and the chicken on that salad also no seasoning nor flavor.. I took a bite of each item and I was done . It went home to the dogs . I personally have no idea why this place is named best BBQ . Sparta is a cute little town here in Tennessee and a lot of nice places and eating spots . I ate at this establishment several years ago when I was in town, and decided to revisit today while I'm here for work. The prices, of course, have increased,,,,, , but why are the food portions so small. Honestly, I was very disappointed in that the food really did not have any taste, the music is being played way too loud in the dining room, and there was just nothing special about a $13 lunch. Hamburger was OK, I was served a child's portion of fries that were overcooked. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

What a pleasant find! We were making a loop through Tennessee checking out waterfalls. Pulled off the road looking for lunch - drove past a dozen fast food joints to discover this locally owned "meat and 3" home cooking restaurant. I had country fried steak, green beans and potato salad and it was all excellent! The wife had a 1/4 bbq chicken that was amazing - great rub, wonderful smoky flavor. Nothing fancy and it took a while to get our lunch because they prepare things fresh. But if you're looking for a fresh, home cooked meal - this is the place. read more

My family is staying near Falls Creek Falls, Tn and we took the drive to Sparta to get some groceries. We decided to give this place a try because of all the great reviews. We are so happy we did. We started with the fried pickles. They were perfect. Very crispy and because they kept them as spears the pickles themselves were not mushy. My husband had the Texas cheesesteak . It was pot roast with peppers, onions and Swiss cheese. He said it was one of the best cheesesteaks he has ever eaten. My middle son had country fried steak and mashed potatoes. He said everything was seasoned perfectly. I had the mile high roast beef sandwich with a side of turnip greens. The roast beef was very tender and the gravy was very good. The turnip greens were ok. I like my greens to have a little of a peppery bite. My youngest son had the hotdog and cheese sticks. He was not impressed with the hotdog because it was not all beef. He did however love the cheese sticks. He had a slice of cheesecake for dessert. It was very good. My older son had a grilled cheese and chili cheese fries. The chili looked homemade and the cheese was processed cheese sauce. I would highly recommend this place if you are in the area. read more

Folks. I support local small business and I would never, ever, leave a negative review unless extremely warranted. That being said I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich special and it was by far, without exaggeration, the poorest example of a pulled BBQ chicken sandwich I have ever had. I honestly cannot really comment on the taste because it was literally a tablespoon of chicken in the oversized bun. Mom comparisons would honestly include gas station and 711 chicken sandwiches. Terrible. They were not busy..... only one other occupied table. On the other hand my brother ordered a Ruben which was good and both of our potatoes salad side were very good. Staff very friendly...... Which made it hard to complain which I did did. I am honesty only writing this review in the hope that they read it and fix the issue..... if it's an issue. It was without exaggeration..... awful. If not for the potato salad and the Ruben being good this would've been a one star. It was that bad today. read more

I asked what was the best thing on the menu was and was told that they had won awards for the burgers and pulled pork. I Had the pulled pork and after one bite I put bbq sauce on and it didn't help. The turnip greens taste like they are from a can. I know what good southern cooking should be and that's not it. My husband had a burger and said it was just okay. He also had the chili and said it had no flavor. The place is busy, not sure why. The service was good. read more

Nice little place, but not worthy of five stars and not really a BBQ place. Standard southern hamburger joint. Cute place, great atmosphere, good service and prices. The food was fine, but nothing outstanding. We came here 'cause we wanted BBQ, but it's not the real thing. I'm willing to bet there's no smoker out back, and the sauce (the one variety) is not made in-house. The BBQ pork sandwich was fine; okra was fine; catfish hoagie was okay. Well this wasn't the worst place I've ever eaten but it's pretty close. it was the worst country fried steak I've ever had. Very little meat and a lot of breading. They don't give you much breading and the portions are small. I had mashed potatoes and gravy which I guess was the highlight of the meal because it was all right. The cornbread was not good and neither were the baked beans. My wife had the pulled pork and it looked like dog food when it came out. And no kidding the dog wouldn't eat the leftovers. A yearning for BBQ on our trip home from Kentucky brought us to this place less than a mile off the highway. We both had BBQ pork dinners which were excellent and plentiful. I had a large baked potato and fried okra with mine and my husband had baked beans and coleslaw. All the sides were great as well. Very friendly people and quick service. We also bought a delicious looking piece of chocolate meringue pie to eat in an hour w some coffee. Overall a great experience. My one suggestion would be to offer real butter instead of whipped spread and more varieties of barbecue sauce. read more
