The team was formed in 2007 and became exclusive as an affiliate to the Indiana Pacers in 2015 when the Indiana Pacers purchased the team. The Mad Ants actually won the D League championship in 2014 and generally have a strong reputation within the league. The G League relationship means that it's not uncommon for players to go back-and-forth between the Mad Ants and the Pacers. Pacers in need of extra development/playing time, rehab, or simply more experience may spend time in G League to acquire it. Likewise, as is happening right now, you may see players either move up from G League or obtain 10-day contracts to address Pacers needs due to injuries or even potentially the current pandemic. Fort Wayne has a long history of basketball and the Mad Ants brought it back to the city. The name comes from Mad Anthony Wayne - also the namesake for Fort Wayne. The G League is essentially the NBA's minor league. There are 29 teams - 28 with direct team affiliations. In 2021, an all-time high of 45% of players on NBA rosters actually had G league experience. So, when you go to a G league game there's a pretty good chance you're seeing NBA-level playing. The league offers this kind of visibility at ticket prices that are even more affordable than NBA games. Standard tickets for the Mad Ants are right around $15 (plus fees if you go through Ticketmaster). Like the Pacers and Fever, they have a variety of special promotions throughout their season (which generally coincides with that of the Pacers and is going on right now). The mascot is, of course, a Mad Ant (who is pretty awesome). The roster this year includes Justin Anderson, Bennie Boatwright, Stephen Domingo, Nate Hinton, D.J. Johnson, Walt Lemon Jr., Daxter Miles Jr., Andrew Rowsey, Russ Smith, Terry Taylor, Will Vorhees, Duane Washington Jr., and Gabe York. I know for sure a couple of these players have already had short-term Pacers contracts including Anderson. A variety of familiar names have played over the years for the Mad Ants including Tyler Hansbrough, Victor Oladipo (during rehab), Solomon Hill, Glen Rice JR., Glenn Robinson III, Luke Harangody, and others.
