The only issue I have with location is the receptionist(s). They have a tendency to forget they are there to assist the patient (customer). This is ridiculous! This place owes me 211 dollars. It was the 4th time I parked here after 6pm. last night it was 11pm! Meters in Charleston stop at 6pm. Their signs are VERY misleading and they target newer cars from what Iv been told when I posted on social media and other locals dmed me about the same experience with their parking lot. When I came to pick up my car they told me it was because I didnt have a badge to park there. NO WHERE does it say a badge is needed. they are scamming people with their signs being its Private Property so nothing can be really done about it. I was visiting Charleston this past weekend with my mom and sisters. I wear daily disposable contacts and threw away my only pair on Thursday night as I forgot to pack my contacts for the weekend. By Friday at noon I had contacts again thanks to this place. This team was amazing from the moment I called in desperation to the minute I left their office with sample contacts to get me through the weekend. I had great experiences with this business UNTIL I requested my PD or "pupillary distance." The reason I requested this magical number is because it is the one number that is essential for getting a pair of eyeglasses made. Jackson Davenport has a record of this number, a fact which they readily admit. Even though my PD is health information specific to me, they refuse to release it to me, going so far as to omit it from my chart. The only possible reason they could have for refusing to give me my pupillary distance is so that they can charge me a considerable markup for making my glasses in house, thereby cutting out internet based eyeglasses providers. This is unfair and infuriating. If I were you, I would go to another optometrist if you want to have unfettered access to your own healthcare information. read more

I was close to purchasing an expensive pair of eyeglasses at a business close to Jackson Davenport, so I wandered down to Jackson's to look around and compare. I was the only customer in the store and there were at least four or five store employees milling around me. Not once did anyone ask if I needed help or even acknowledge my presence. I picked out about 6 frames and sat down at one of the tables in the middle of the store to try them on. STILL no attention. By this time it was pretty amusing (and incredulous), so I quickly determined none of the frames suited me and I got up to leave. Not a head turned...I could've thrown all the frames in my bag and left a happy camper. Jeez. At least I didn't have to suffer sales pitches, but I wonder how their business is when they can ignore a potential customer. read more

Let me just say the service I received from Dr. Jared Fisher was as good as any I've received from anyone. In any industry. Ever. Here's the situation. I was getting married in Charleston at 4:30 pm. I woke up that morning with red, watery, itchy, pained eyes. Needless to say, I was freaking out. Luckily I located Jackson Davenport's address online and drove to their office. Dr. Fisher gave me an exam, provided me with the necessary medication, and offered to see me again in the afternoon! I gladly took him up on it, saw him two hours before the ceremony, and he gave me a follow-up exam and provided priceless advice. My ceremony with off w/out a hitch and I owe it all to Dr. Fisher's expertise, patience, and kindheartedness. In my time of need, he went above and beyond and I can't thank him enough for it. I bought a very expensive frame from Jackson-Davenport that failed after one year of use. I sent them an email (from Vermont where I live) with my concern. Before I could call them on Monday they had already ordered new frames and lens to replace my pair at no cost. Yes they are expensive (relatively speaking) but their service is superior. This is an optometry shop, so they know their lenses and know that price often doesn't correlate with quality. I've bought several pair of sunglasses here, and the price at the register is often considerably lower than the price on the glasses. "They recommended very expensive contacts which ended up being extremely uncomfortable and when I went in to have them switched back to what I was comfortable with, they tried to charge and were EXTREMELY rude when I tried to question it. I told her what I wanted to spend and after trying to show me ones way out of my price range she then disappeared after being on her phone the whole conversation. I was wondering around about to leave (bc no one was helping me) when thankfully a lady named Cate then asked if I needed help and she took her time and showed me ones that I ended up getting. Cate was so kind and so professional, I can honestly say she is the one to see about glasses. Even though I did not purchase my glasses from their store, they were extremely pleasant and fast about adjusting my frames. I ran into Jackson-Davenport, and the woman behind the desk was so friendly and helpful. I explained the situation, and she took down the number of my optometrist in California. While I was in a meeting, she called and got my prescription...when I came back at noon, she had a pair of contacts waiting for me, and wouldn't even let me pay for the contacts...she helped out with solution and a mirror, and I was on my way. If they're this nice to someone from out of town who's not even buying something, I can only imagine how great they'd be if I were your regular eye doctor. Everyone was extremely friendly, knowledgable and were just happy to help. Absolutely the worst place to go for any type of optical issue. The workers there, in particular the tall, older woman with short, reddish hair are astonishingly short, demeaning, and unhelpful. I have lived in Charleston for 14 years and have gone there a number of times before. Every time, I was met with hostility and a general "why are you here? How can I get rid of you?" And every time, I chalked it up to "maybe she's having a bad day." This time however, I walked in with a general question about how or if they could repair my glasses and before I could finish, the salesperson tells me "there is no one that will help you here or anywhere." It was a simple frame joint replacement, and I was apparently some sort of idiot for even asking. I would not have rated it so low or been so derogatory to this poor excuse for a business had I not been able to fix the "unfixable" easily with some research. If you are in the market for sunglasses then I suggest you go no further. First the selection is the best in the Charleston area. However the service goes beyond what you would expect. I have bought several pair of Maui Jim sunglasses from the King street store. 2 years later when a lens chipped or the main frame broke JDVHC fixed it for a nominal charge and I had essentially a new pair of sunglasses. So if you plan to stay in the charleston area and keep the sunglasses or expect service for them then this is the store for you. If you dont expect those things this is still the store for you. read more

As a previous customer, I was surprised and upset to learn that after paying for an eye examination, the store manager refused to give me the full results, specifically the DP measurement. She said I could have it only if I bought glasses from their store. This policy of benefiting the store at the expense of the customer is not only bad business, it could be considered fraudulent since I paid for something they refused to deliver. I came back to Charleston for a visit recently and stopped in to look at other sunglasses. Danny was absolutely wonderful and allowed me to exchange the sunglasses for a pair that worked better for me. If you need sunglasses or glasses, this is the best place to go. I have to say, I'm always blown away at the level of customer service with Jackson-Davenport. I bought a pair of Costa Del Mar sunglasses and have managed to break them twice. I was even willing to buy a new pair and they talked me out of it. The first time, they replaced my lenses and it cost next to nothing. Today I went by because I broke the temple on one side. They called me to let me know they had fixed them and wouldn't even charge me after I offered. I think it's safe to say I won't be buying my glasses from anybody else. They go above and beyond.
