We loved our time at Jackson House! This space formerly housed the Valdemar tasting room and tapas bar. My understanding is that the chef and most of the staff are the same, which is cool! We tried their limoncello and food offering at taste WA, and that is how we discovered this restaurant. I'm glad we did! For food, we had the caviar, spot prawns, and steak frites, and they were all fabulous! Their interactive cocktail menu, which uses a blue light to reveal hidden information, was a nice touch! We'll surely be back next time we visit Woodinville, and next time I'll be sure to take photos! read more

Came in here for date night with another couple and was very pleasantly surprised - I love finding amazing gems like this is my home town! Parking was tricky (mostly because we couldn't figure out our map) but it is centralized located in the School House District. Let's start with the secret menu - so fun! We had a blast pretending to be sleuths and reading through it. What a clever and different way to bring some excitement to the experience! Be sure to check it out if you go in. Now for the food - we ordered a large variety of options to share between the four of us - and everything was delicious. We tried the house focaccia with honey lavender butter, sausage rolls, crispy mushrooms, steak frites, burrata, and poutine. I couldn't choose a favorite if I had to. It was especially fun because it was a Canadian and Australian inspired selection, and our friend who we were with is both Canadian and Australian, so it pulled at all the heart strings. Wow, Woodinville needed Jackson house - what a gem! They are nestled in the Schoolhouse District over by the soccer fields - the space is small inside but has a nice patio for summer months. I liked the cozy dark vibe inside. Our server was great - knowledgeable and attentive. Menus have a fun secret black light option. Intended to go to Pintxo when we found out that the restaurant (and winery) closed but elated to hear that the chef of Pintxo took over the location and created Jackson House. Glad that we arrived early enough that we were able to get a table. They specialize in curated cocktails, and their drink menu is extensive. Their food menu is simple but offered enough variety and all the dishes we tried were wonderful! Labneh and Caviar - ossetra caviar, ellenos labneh, house made chips - $26 - the house made chips were delicious and goes well with the labneh. Crispy Mushrooms - shiitake & white mushrooms, tempura batter, miso aoli - $14 - cooked perfectly -- a great balance between crispiness of the batter and juiciness of the mushrooms. Sausage Rolls - veal, puff pastry, home ketchup - $16 - tasty, and the house made ketchup was insanely good! Whiskey-Poached Pear Salad - feta, blue glass greens, charred shallot vin - $14 - all the ingredients went so well together. The poached pear was delicious! Let's Riff (custom drink similar to their Mexicali drink that is only reserve for members) $18 For dessert, we tried the Whiskey Brown Sugar Basque Cheesecake - seasonal "burnt" cheesecake $14 - I liked the fact that it's not too sweet. For After Dinner drink, Filty Chai - rhum barbancourt, local chai, espresso, orange bitters - $18. I don't like chai, but I liked this drink! I taste the espresso more than the chai. I was excited to give this place a try. Decor gives a chill vibe, inviting. Staff is super nice and attentive. But the food was somewhat disappointing for various reasons. The focaccia is really really good. Probably the only thing that actually came out hot, and crispy on the outside. The lavender butter with it was tasty as well. The Caesar salad with what had to be a house made dressing, which I greatly appreciate, was so heavy handed with anchovy that it overpowered everything and it was like eating a fish salad. The anchovy flavor was off putting. The hot honey roasted carrots with carrot top pesto was blah. The carrots were barely cooked, almost raw and I never tasted any hot or honey. They were also served cold. I was expecting nice roasted carrots served hot and this was not. We ended up not even eating them. The Iberico ham skirt was super tasty with a nice crust, but again, the dish came out room temperature at best, almost cold. I'm not sure what was going on but it was as if everything was prepared earlier in the day and then served room temperature almost refrigerator cold. It was just weird. The garnish on the pork made no sense to me and did not lend any visual appeal or value: barely cooked thick sliced onions, round slices of maybe something like turnip or watermelon radish or some white vegetable, with fried sage leaves, then covered with frisée. It was sloppy looking, with 5 paper thin slices of meat (supposedly family style) that it left me still feeling hungry. When you tell guests everything is meant to be shared, one would expect a decent portion, this was not that. The pork had great flavor but would have been even better served warm/hot and a bit more of it. The bourbon brown sugar Basque cheesecake had potential, but I failed to taste any bourbon or brown sugar. I appreciated the use of the aged manchego cheese in it, but manchego is from the Catalonia region of Spain and not Basque. The Basque people would be devastated by this. Yes, it's a sheep's milk cheese and is most similar to Idiabazal but it's a dryer, firmer cheese that requires higher temperatures to melt, so adding it to this dish lends flavor but leaves chunks of the cheese in the cake adding an odd texture. The cheesecake was also just a tad bit overcooked and took on the consistency of an American style cheesecake as opposed to Basque, which is wetter and creamier. Anyway, it had good flavor, just needed refining. The service was super friendly, the cocktails were good. I might be inclined to try them again the next time they switch menus over. The intention was good and the flavors are there, but the execution could be so much better. read more

Then finished off with basque cheesecake. Every item we received, continue to surprise us. My favorite was a lamb chops. The tempura mushrooms with the miso aïoli was my second favorite along with the sausage rolls. The Brussels sprouts were very delicious, but I do wish that there were more of them. And the basque cheesecake was spectacular. The staff was overall very pleasant and attentive. We sat at the bar in the bartender. It was very friendly. Fantastic dinner and bar spot in downtown Woodinville! Huge shout out to Anaya who made our experience extra memorable, she is so friendly and fun! She recommended we order a bunch of things and share them family style, and most of them were great. My favorites were the crispy mushrooms that are made tempura style with an aioli dip, the brussels and burrata that were extra smokey, and the iberico pork skirt that was juicy and flavorful, though with all of those I wish the portions were bigger (especially the pork, it was five thin slices that covered a third of a plate). The cocktails are also amazing here, especially the moody manhattan, the classic old fashioned, and the refreshing limencello drop. For those looking for non-alcoholic the Pink 'Groni Club is a great option. If you want a comfy seating option I recommend reserving their "lounge" area with sofas, it's like you're at home with your family or friends! A few misses...poutine was a little too salty and came out lukewarm, squash was forgettable and weird with the yogurt, and the dungeness cheesecake could have used a lot more crab. For dessert we tried their basque cheesecake which was just okay flavor-wise, I wish we had opted for something different after having the dungeness cheesecake. But otherwise we will not hesitate to come back here, it was a great evening with great service and drinks! read more

Bring on the beans!! Went here for our anniversary over the weekend and it was our first time. My husband told them this and requested to be by the window. Neither things were acknowledged. When we asked for a table by the window we were told "no, this is taken". Well alrighty then! The hostess was lovely and left us our menus and little black light flashlights. Interesting. I guess kind of cool. Our first drinks were delicious. Homemade limoncello...yesssss! Appetizers were next - hard Brussel sprouts and enough deep fried mushrooms to feed an army. This should have been our first clue that portions would be off...way off. The sausage rolls were lit though. Ready for dinner! Our waiter assured us that the shared chicken dish was "PLENTY" for 2 people. We couldn't hide our shock when it arrived and it wasn't even enough for ONE person. Two tiny pieces of chicken but overflowing with more beans than would ever be necessary for any dish ever. I ended up giving it to my husband and eating the mushrooms from earlier. Oh, the "carrots" that were listed on the menu was one baby carrot cut into thirds. No bueno. At this point we were frustrated, confused and still hungry. Honestly couldn't wait to get out of there except our waiter never came back. I had to go ask for the check on the way out. Awkward. As the waiter ran my card he said "are you mad"? Jackson House is a true gem. Lauren Jackson, the head chef and owner, is a delight and her menu is incredible. She crafts incredible dishes with global influence and local ingredients. Don't sleep on the Aussie puff pastry bites -- Lauren is from Australia and the appetizer was delicious. My favorite plate was the Iberico steak, though it was hard to choose. The cocktails there are lovingly and beautifully crafted as well. I can't remember their names, but the purple one was incredible. The restaurant is gorgeous with dark walls, beautiful art and a living plant wall, cozy lounge areas and traditional tables and high tops to suit all your dining needs. More than anything, though, check out this place for the warm and wonderful service you'll receive while eating an excellently prepared meal. read more

Amazing. I've been here twice now, and it's instantly become a local favorite spot. It's fine-dining portions with similar fine-dining prices, but the difference is in the food, hospitality, and vibe. Food: Delicious and creative without being pretentious. With fine-dining prices, "being cooked well," isn't enough to impress because good execution becomes the minimum. The food here is packed with deep interesting flavors and textures. It sounds cheesy to say, but the food here is inspired. Cocktails were equally impressive and memorable. My personal favorite dishes were: the beets, the chicken cassoulet, the cabbage (surprisingly), and the pork loin. The crab cheesecake was almost included but just needed a bit more crab meat. Hospitality: Super friendly, accommodating, and personal. We had the staff and the chef herself all stop by to see how we were doing multiple times without being overbearing and we felt like guests more than customers. Seriously. Vibe: Fun, relaxed, and friendly. This place is all the best parts of fine-dining, and only the best parts. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing hospitality, all without the sorta showy and sit-up-straight environment. So yeah, it's maybe not a place I can afford every weeknight, but I've paid a lot more for a lot less at other places that left me wondering if I'd bother returning. It's so nice to hear that the chef of PINTXO has taken over and turned it into her own restaurant. I was also impressed that the chef came out and served us some of our dishes. I wish I would've taken more photos. I didn't take enough. We had several things on the menu, including vegan options for some of my friends. And the chef was more than willing to accommodate the vegan dish. The chef even came out and chatted to us about the food and the experience. We also enjoyed some of their wine offerings. We had planned a special evening to celebrate a friend's retirement. I brought a special wine (2018 Delmas) and confirmed upon entry that corkage was allowed. I had double decanted the wine at home and did not try to hide this fact (maybe I should have by simply pressing the cork back flush with the bottle). Once seated, I was told they would not allow the wine to be served because Washington law does not allow previously opened wine to be served. I requested to be shown the Washington law they relied on. The manager came to the table and insisted there was such a law. I asked again to be shown such a law. He used his phone to research and tried to quote something from L&I. I informed him that L&I does not regulate liquor licensing, it would be WSLCB. At this point I asked the manager to simply leave us alone, understanding he would not let us consume our wine, although we were willing to pay corkage. He insisted at this point that we leave his restaurant, which we did. However, we were extremely embarrassed to do so and ever more embarrassed to tell our friends upon their arrival that we had been kicked out. Just for the benefit of Jackson House, here is the status of Washington law: Washington regulations expressly allow restaurant licensees to let patrons bring wine into the premises for consumption with a meal. The regulation does not require the wine bottle to be unopened. As a result, under state liquor rules, a restaurant may generally permit a customer to bring a previously opened, recorked bottle of wine and consume it with a meal if the restaurant chooses to allow it. Washington's regulations do not appear to contain a blanket prohibition on opened BYO wine. My wife, I and my friends have a very negative impression of this restaurant as a result of this heavy handed manager. Please do not support this restaurant. It should issue an apology at the minimum. read more

Our courses came out @20 mins apart, so some folks were eating and finished while others had to wait over an hour. I ordered a glass of wine and had to ask our server 3 times when it would arrive - it took @1 hr! I ordered another glass later and also had to inquire. Another 1/2 hr.Our server comped the wine but still...what a disaster the service is! The food was good but nothing too notable . The room is very loud and it's difficult to hear others speak.
