I went to the er for a nerve pain that I was feeling in my left leg it took a hour before they finally helped me and the pain was excruciating finally got inside they left me for another 20 minutes before attending to me got so frustrated so I broke my watch and chain and was crying historically for help finally they came and gave me meds that only put me to sleep no X-ray was taken no referral to see a orthopedic finally wen I woke up they had a BHA force me to go to psych for evaluation and I didn't go there for psych!!!!!!!!!! but because they knew I had a psych history they figured why not send her there instead I refused but still they insisted, was in psych for a whole day requesting to leave because I didn't wanna miss work and wanted to right a 72 hour letter the nurse brought a crayon!!!! And a paper to write a letter to a judge!!!! I said I would never write a letter to a judge with a crayon can I get a pen or pencil they refused to give me one they said wait to see my social worker who took a whole day to come and speak to me, i refused to do blood work when they saw I wasn't budging and kept my composure they finally decided to release me when I got my stuff my 300 dollar earpods was stolen!!!!!!! out my bag!!!!!!as well as my 500 dollar pendent!!!!!!! for my necklace worse experience ever and have yet to be compensated for it so heart broken finally decided that I would never ever in my life go to that hospital under any circumstances I would rather die!!!!! Mind you I was born there and it took me 32 years to realize just how horrible this hospital has been treating me!!!!!!

I realized they delete negative Google reviews so I will post my experience here. I came here…read morebecause my normal hospital is in the city and I am going through some post-op complications. This hospital has a high rating so I took a chance. What a waste of my time. If I had known the incompetence of some of the staff here, I would have rather let myself bleed out than come here. First time I have said this, but I actually like the doctors more than the nurses and other supporting staff. Triage was a nightmare. I only said a total of two sentences, which wasn't enough to explain the reason I was there, because she cut me off so she could type it down. I have never met someone who typed like a kindergartener. It took nearly 20 minutes for her to type a literal 3 sentences. The ER nurses, physicians, and surgical team were lovely. I was medicated, sent to a CT, and admitted in under 5 hours. However, the regular hospital team on the inpatient floor? Wow. No words to describe my horror and disappointment. Again, the surgical team was lovely and transparent. The nurses all need to be fired or restrained. God forbid a nurse at this hospital does their job. My IV line kept causing the machine to beep and I had to keep silencing it because the nurses were too busy doing absolutely nothing to come turn it off. Also, I complained TWICE about the lady I was sharing a room with. She would not shut up, talking in her sleep, groaning, moaning, and making all sorts of inappropriate noises all night. Both times I complained? The nurse peeked around the curtain to ask if the woman was okay, ignored me, and walked out. No reprimand, no attempt to explain to this lady that she waa being disruptive. I did not get an hour of sleep the entire evening. I had an Asian woman come in to do my blood just now and I had to tell her off. Why? Because she was attempting to draw blood without actually looking for a vein. She was going based off what she could see. She poked around in my opposite arm before giving up and going into my hand. No warning, no communication, no prodding with her finger to find the best vein. She just went into whatever she saw. It was painful because she kept moving it in and out since the blood wasn't flowing well (hm, wonder why) and I moved because it was painful. She had the audacity to tell me she wasn't done and I told her to please get me a nurse who knew what they were doing because clearly she didn't and was being reckless. Aside from the crappy staff, the building is a health hazard. The floor of the CT was disgusting, clearly hasn't been swept or mopped in God knows how long. The entire hospital is disgusting. The bathroom in my inpatient room was dirty, not cleaned or wiped down. The surgeons and doctors are who saved it for me. But considering nurses and other supporting staff are the main faces, please get rid of all of them. Terrible workers. Thus why people would rather travel to Manhattan for their medical care.

I am a home healthcare aid in Rockland County & I'm currently caring for a Hospice client whose…read morefamily uses Bronx Calvary. Every single time an aid from our agency calls Hospice for one of our clients that we share the nurses complain about the drive to Rockland & in general are very unpleasant to deal with. On Saturday 4/11 during my overnight shift with my Hospice client she told me she was having trouble breathing so I called Hospice and the on-call nurse I spoke to wanted me to administer medication which I am not legally allowed to do, she proceeded to tell me that it's not helpful that I'm there and can't administer medication and that's not how a Hospice program is Run and that they're supposed to be someone there to dispense medication. Which was shocking to me because that is her job as a nurse and not mine as an aid or even family which she asked for, my client's family is out of state, When I said that to her she responded with don't get nasty with me and hung up on me. The second nurse I spoke to shortly after that complained that it would take an over hour for her to drive from the Bronx to my location which is not accurate & asked how my client was doing and said she would follow up later. I was with my client until 9 AM and nobody came to check on her. The first time I had to call Hospice for the same client bc she was complaining of pain when the nurse arrived she asked me why I did not give the client medication claiming that I am private healthcare which I am not SHE IS and that she should not have had to drive all the way there..... Speaking with my clients family I was made aware that Calvary charges $50 an hour! And every single nurse complains about doing the job that they chose. Imagine if there was an actual emergency..... 911 is not an option for most Hospice clients as Hospice is end of life care. It absolutely breaks my heart that we are all supposed to be working together to make my clients transition as peaceful as possible and the Hospice nurses are fighting us every step of the way which is WILD! If travel is a problem perhaps end your contracts with Rockland County and only keep your patients in NYC bc this is absolutely unacceptable the sick and elderly deserve better quality end of life care & I will never stop advocating

My Update Review -- with Clarification & Continuing Impact…read more The original review reflects my firsthand experience as a patient and observer during my stay and interactions with NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. Everything I describe happened directly to me or to my roommate, and the memory of it still affects me to this day. When I first arrived, I expected professional, compassionate care. What I found was a strange split: half the staff were pure day-angels -- genuinely caring and patient -- while the other half felt like night creatures of Hades, treating suffering people like problems instead of patients. I remember lying there, unsure whether I'd get help or indifference when I pressed the call button. Those nights were long and unsettling, and they left a deep mark on how I view hospitals even now. After I was discharged, things didn't end there. A few months later, when my Medicaid coverage ended and my Medicare was about to begin, the hospital's billing department started calling me. I remember the woman on the phone saying, "The hospital expects to get paid." I was still in recovery -- mentally, physically, emotionally -- and that moment felt like being punched when I was already down. I told her to figure it out and ended the call. I never heard from them again. But the experience stuck with me. Even now, when I walk into a clinic or hear a hospital intercom, it all comes back: the helplessness, the fear, the sense that care had become secondary to profit. It wasn't just a bad stay; it was something that shook my trust in healthcare as a system. I still wish there were some way to hold them accountable for how they treat patients -- and to be clear, the word "wish" here expresses my frustration and lasting pain, not a legal or factual claim. It's the feeling of someone who went through something that shouldn't happen in a place meant to heal. This update represents only my personal story and opinion, drawn from my own experience. I understand and respect Yelp's content guidelines and have written this update carefully to remain within them. I stand by my review, my words, and the right of patients to speak openly and truthfully about what they've lived through -- especially when those experiences continue to haunt them long after discharge.
