I drove 40 minutes away to go to this store with my friend. We are both 18 and as we walked in the woman at the front very rudely told us that we had to be with a parent to look at dresses. She was very mean about it, had a bitter facial expression, and didn't give me a second to speak. I am 18 and a legal adult in the United States, therefore I should be able to buy a prom dress for myself and at least look around in the store. I believe it was completely unfair and the woman could have been more pleasant. I don't even care at this point how nice their dresses are and I will not be coming back with my mom. read more

The staff is SO rude & pushy! The younger women were friendly but the older women were very rude. My assistant made numerous rude remarks to my mother & I, telling us she doesn't want us to waste her time & that she's given me all the dresses she can after only trying on TWO. They're very pushy & don't let you just look. If you want to look on your own, they have to do it for you, or they have to be next to you breathing on your neck, commenting on every dress you touch. I went to Jacqueline to buy a dress for my son's wedding and was prepared to spend for a custom dress. The sales staff was busy waiting on young girls for prom and were quite rude. They were offended that I had not made an appointment, and made me wait for them. When thye finally came to talk to me, they were not at all helpful or attentive. NOT WORTH IT!!! I had the same experience as Michelle K. We went to purchase a dress for my daughter's Sweet 16. Her older sister made the trip from the City just for this occasion. While I went to park the car, I dropped off my 16 year and my 22 year old. When I entered the store, I found an older blonde barking at my 22 year about having a parent, waiting for a stylist and all that jazz. My daughter stated several times that she was 22!! The lady continue to bark even though the lady by the counter kept saying that my daughter was 22 & it was ok! (I'll admit that my oldest looks like she is 17 BUT that is not the point is it!) My 22 year old asked what was the reason for the policy. The older woman brushed her off with a "foo foo" answer but my daughter pressed on. Is the City girl in her! The older blonde then said something about customers coming in to try the dresses only and then leaving to order the dress online. She added that they did not want the dresses to be mishandle, blah, blah. I really thad tuned her after her "foo foo" answer. My 22 year and I decided to go with the flow since my 16 year was starting to stress out. We both wanted this to be a happy experience for her. We patiently waited our turn....behind a white plastic chain intended to bar all customers from entering the store without a stylist. The store is nothing to write home about. It is tiny. Yes, the pic on the website is very deceiving. There are several fire code violations particular the entrance & exit doors. We were assigned a stylist within 10 mins or so. The girl was barely 18 if that BUT she was friendly, courteous & tried her very best to find a dress for my 16 year old. We went to Jacqueline because my daughter found the dress she wanted on their website. Needless to say the dress was not in the store & based on the conversation we had with the staff, it appears that they never had the dress. Hmmmm.... Of the dresses my 16 year old tried on, all were big because they do not carry a wide range of sizes. We were forced to envision the fit of the dress while the stylist pull the back of the dress to make it fit in the front. Really! Since all purchases are final, store policy, if I buy a dress based on this and lets say it does not fit properly am I stuck with the dress! Since I already decided that I was not going to purchase the dress here, I did not even bother to ask. I imagine that the measuring tape at the counter was the work around for the "pulling of the back" technique. We decided to go to to a store at Woodbridge Mall called "Ultimate Fashions" that my 16 year was referred to by her cheerleading coach. We found the dress that my daughter found in Jacqueline's website in the color she wanted. Size 4 was a bit big & the size 2 was too small. NO problem. The seamtress on site was wonderful. The alterations were just $55 dollars. My 22 year is very petite and we are very familiar with the cost of alterations. This has been the most affordable alteration I have ever done! Skip Jacqueline's!!! Shopping for a happy occasion should be a positive & happy experience. My daughters & I were looking forward to this special occasion, Jacqueline's managed to make F**** it up. However, I am happy to say that "Ultimate Fashions" saved the day! We are back in our happy place. read more

Went looking for a prom dress for my daughter. First went to Coco's in Little Falls. Nothing there. My daughter had told me about Jacqueline's. After looking at some Yelp reviews I didn't want to walk in there. A lot of reviews were about rude sales associates and a rude owner etc. Jacqueline's was not the best shopping experience I have ever had, but it was good. I did not hear anyone being nasty. The owner was at the counter ringing people up and was pleasant. When we walked in the store was all a buzz with prom goers etc. My daughter actually found her dress on her own. We are very happy with her choice. Brittany, our sales associate seemed new to the shop, but she did a good job. I wish I would have gone to Jacqueline's first. It would have saved us a lot of time. QUALITY: AWFUL and CHEAP, APPEAL: DATED and UGLY, SERVICE: TRASH and Disgusting Early Saturday morning I met up with my family at this boutique to help my little sister find a prom dress. As soon as we walked in, a young sales associate approached us with "Hi, what are you looking for today" just like a vulture. My little sister was not a fan of the choices the little girl was showing her and she wanted to look on her own. This little girl then tells her that " I can't let you look on your own, I have to help you" WTF???? So my sister then proceeds to try several dresses. We then found one that we all loved but it wasn't the right color. The sales associate then told us that it comes in turquoise but we would have to order it. I then asked her what the return policy was and she said "EVERYTHING IS FINAL SALE" Oh I forgot to mention that there was only one left in the country in her size. So I asked what if the dress is damaged or doesn't fit, would we receive a refund. The girl then says "Well we would give you a discount for the damages". She completely disregarded my question. So I asked again "WOULD WE RECEIVE A REFUND" The girl then hesitates and says YES! We then proceed to have my sister measured to make sure the special order will match her measurements. As we are walking to the front, an older lady then tells us that we must pay first before measuring. WTF??? I then ask the older lady what the return policy is and she gets annoyed and pushes a piece of paper in front of me and told me to READ! WOWWWWWW. I said "Excuse me. Every customer has the right to know what the return policy is" and she says "yes, your right and you can read it." I then walked out because I was so disgusted with this woman. While I was outside, the OLD HAGS started talking about me to my family. They said "SHES FRESH and SHE MUST BE HAVING A BAD DAY". This place disgusts me. NEVER AGAIN! I have been working in the fashion industry, customer service, and sales for 13 years. I have never seen the SUCH TERRIBLE SERVICE IN MY LIFE. My daughter found a dress she really liked but wanted to continue looking elsewhere. They were very understanding. We returned this weekend for a trunk sale. They were busy but attentive. You HAD to fill out a sheet about what style dress and color and size and stuff like that, then your number and email address! I understand why they might want to know about the dress but I don't think it was very necessary. Once you cross the threshold, they expect you to make a purchase. Extremely bad service and rude stylists who ask to trade clients and tell each other to "Hang in there"

DO NOT SHOP HERE ! I am so appalled and disgusted by not only the horrific customer service but the quality of the dress I purchased. I purchased a dress for my daughter for $250 and was told it would be altered properly to fit her . After a month of waiting for the alterations to be completed , when I went to pick up the dress not only did it still not fit her there were stones missing. I was treated so poorly and told I was incorrect about the missing stones . In turn, the dress had to be altered again when we returned to the store the missing stones were back on the dress and I was told they found miscellaneous stones around the store. My daughter then tries the dress on again and it was horrendous. The seamstress altered the top so improperly now the skirt is lopsided. She destroyed the dress completely it cannot even be worn. The owners could care less that we had a dress that was destroyed by them. They would not accept any accountability ! They are rude and honestly fraudulent in their practices . Do not purchase from them they do not honor their products, sales or take responsibility for their mistakes ! Such a shame ! We looked online for prom dresses for my daughter and saw several "Alyce" dresses we liked. We went to the store and had to wait at least 20 minutes for an "appointment" with a sales clerk. She was nice enough but not knowledgeable whatsoever!! We asked where the "Alyce" dresses were and she said they were not in yet. My daughter (naive to the 'hard sell') tried on a dress that was absolutely hideous but the sales person tried to push it because it was $679.00. She told us it was 10% off today only. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! My mother and I went just this morning to both get a dress for a formal black tie event. When we walked the women shamelessly looked us up and down , then asked my mother what style she wanted. She wanted a very simple evening gown with no beading or rhinestones . The women then asked what her budget was , we where looking to spend about $300-$400 for each dress. She then shook her head and said " I have nothing here for you " and my mom asked if there was any sale dresses we could look at due to the end of prom season. She then said, I don't think your going to like anything,we asked again can we see them. Which there was two large racks of dresses for $99 dollars. While my mom was trying on one of the dresses the women told me " there is nothing here for you, try Macys " . I'd like to know what this women makes an hour that this women doesn't need to make a sale of &600 when the store was completely empty. As well as her judgmental comments she had no problem telling my mother she wouldn't fit into dresses when she is a size 4 and told me there was nothing for me and questioned what I wanted and my size of a size 8. Shame on her for her rude behavior, her ignorance to discriminate against people's body types, appearance and finances. my advice if you have a teenage daughters do not put her through that, I'm 18 and never felt so uncomfortable in my life. There are so many other places available that are willing to help you. The place should be shut down. read more

Very disappointing experience. First, they don't take appointments over the phone. We tried calling but they never answered. We had to wait in store for 25 minutes to get help. No place to sit, no tea, coffee, water or anything offered and there were several people behind us. There were only 2 chairs that were used by mothers whose daughters were being helped. None of the sales people were particularly nice, certainly not personable. The selection was very mediocre. The help we received was....nothing. The stylist helped with zipping my daughter in and out of a dress. No helpful suggestions, nothing at all. My daughter could have done this on her own. I had such bad vibes from this place that I suggested to my daughter we go elsewhere. She happily obliged as she got the same bad vibes. They also locked us in the store. I think they got a little busy and their answer is to then simply lock the door so no one else can get it in. Imagine we arrived 30 mins later, the door would have been locked during opening hours. Yes that is how they treat their customers. Also, seems like a huge fire hazard to me!! The only thing that keeps this shop in business is that there is no other prom dress store in the vicinity. I'm glad we didn't stick around for more abuse. We happily drove an extra 30 minutes and found a dream dress while getting service with a smile. Recommendation: avoid this place if you can. Update: go to Castle Couture in Manalapan where they have a selection that is literally 30 to 40 times bigger, excellent customer service, have a place to sit w coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water, etc and are MUCH better organized. read more

Three years ago I went to this store for my senior prom dress; I found and purchased the dress the same day with no problems. However, this past weekend I went with my sister and her friend to shop for their prom. My mother accompanied us, even though I'm 21, so that my sister and her friend would both have a "guardian" to help them look. When we walked into the store, the woman at the counter immediately berated us with questions on how we were all related and who was with who; upon realizing that my sisters friend did not have her actual mother there, she refused to assign her a "personal stylist" or allow her to try any dresses on. As you can imagine, her friend was upset and felt singled out. Other than that, the "personal stylists" are very young girls working there who are helpful and the selections they have for dresses are current; unfortunately, this is outweighed by the rude and aggressive older women running the shop. read more

I was first at Jacqueline's five years ago with a friend who was looking for a gown for her daughter's wedding.No drama, no problems. Went back with same friend for a gown this time for my daughter's wedding. In all fairness, the stylist who assisted me was very helpful and I found a beautiful gown rather quickly. It had to be ordered and I understood it would take several months for it to come. I called the shop several times in mid Feb. to see if there was any word on expected arrival. No one answered the phone! I finally got a recording saying if they were busy, one had to email the store to check on any dress arrivals! I never have heard of such a thing. None the less, I emailed two addresses since it wasn't clear which one of two available was correct. I received a reply my dress was en route and a few days later that it had arrived. Since I very often am in the Livingston area with my work, I decided to stop by to make an alteration appointment since they do not answer the phone. They were busy and I was told by a curt saleswomen I would have to wait half an hour to make an alteration appointment and where was my "pink"slip because I would have to bring my gown home and back again for any alterations. SAY WHAT? Yes I had a pink slip. It was HOME since no one verbally or in any email told me I would be bringing my gown home and back again to be altered. REALLY? This is where the fun began. I started talking to a mother and daughter waiting nearly an hour to see the prom collection. They were told not to move or touch anything on their own. The more they spoke, the angrier I got that anyone would be so disrespected. Finally, after nearly one half hour, the owner came by. At the same time, another customer came in waving her pink slip. The owner went to help this women but I spoke up. I very nicely explained that I had been waiting,was not going to wait any longer or let someone else go before me because they had their pink slip and I did not. I got my gown and left very disgusted but also rather amused. I grew up in the area and can hold my own. I chose to leave the area for this very reason. There is no need to treat potential or existing customers in this manner. You do not have to be treated in this manner, and certainly your daughter should not be exposed to such rudeness. She deserves better than this and so do you! read more

This was the worst experience ive ever had when it comes to any dress shopping, and not the experience I wanted my cousin to have for senior prom. When I arrived and approached the desk the woman was talking to her friend and wast almost offended that I had entered the store and had to stop her conversation in order to DO HER JOB! She asked what I was there for and I told her we were looking for a very specific dress for my cousin. She asked and looked it up and RUDELY asked what size she would need, as if she wasn't used to waiting on girls that weren't a size 2. She then told us that we wouldn't be able to get the dress till JUNE because they weren't making cutting it till then. And the told her boss she needed to take a break. Another group of girls walked in and the boss completely disregarded us to talk to them and address what they needed. When I asked her if I needed to fill out the same paperwork she rolled her eyes at me and told me yes. It's not even worth spending the time in this small store looking for your dream prom dress. They're disrespectful and clearly judge you immediately when you walk into the store. Do yourself a favor and go to another store. They don't deserve your time or money. read more

To be short, my experience was horrible here; that means a lot considering I was in here for a total of 2 minutes. The second I walked in with my friend, the snotty women asked without much concern "How can we help you?" I replied that I wanted to look at prom dresses and proceeded to walk towards them. She rudely stopped us immediately and said that we couldn't because we did not have a parent or guardian with us. My friend and I tried to clear things up by both stating that we are 18 years old. "Doesnt matta!", the ladies continued to fight us on buying a dress. First off, I have a credit card under my name, using my own money that I made, and I was about to drop 700 dollars plus at this store given that I was in need of two prom dresses. The ladies still told us we could not even look. When I asked why we could not without a parent present, they simply just said "That's our policy, its on the website and outside the door entrance". I looked over at the door, and there it was- a pasted piece of printer paper with a 12 point font written, god knows what, but who would care to look at that anyway? To be quite honest, I do not see how it is ethical to turn down potential customers, especially ones that are 18. 18 means adult. 18 means I am able to get married. 18 means I am able to fight in the army. But GOD FORBID I bought a prom dress? Adult means fully capable to purchase a dress without a mother or father overlooking you- they were extremely rude. After this ridiculous encounter my friend and I proceeded to drive to the Short Hills Mall and I bought a dress for my school prom. Then, 2 hours later, we went to COCO Chateau in Little Falls and I got another dress for my boyfriend's prom. So, moral of the story, don't go to Jacqueline. BUT if you are in need of a prom dress, feel free to go to Bloomingdales or COCO Chateau for a wonderful and hassle free experience. read more

I went into the store thinking my daughter would walk out with a fabulous dress for her pageant. So much for that. What she did leave with was a life lesson that I'd hope she'd not have to learn in her lifetime, or at least not at this age. First let me be clear...but for one other person trying on dresses, the store was empty! The sales person that "helped" us was reluctant to do so. When we entered the store she looked at us as if we were something foul she'd stepped in. She took us straight the $99 rack, and was quite irritated when my daughter told her that the dresses on that rack were not to her liking and that she wanted to see the dresses by Sherri Hill. She told us that the Sherri Hill dresses were too expensive. Rather than tell her what I was thinking of her and the store at this point, I ignored her and pressed onward to the Sherri Hill rack. When my daughter found the dress of her dreams (unfortunately I refuse to buy it from these clowns) she excitedly hurried to the dressing room area to try it on. The sales person verbally reprimanded my daughter (she was bold right!) yelling that my daughter,"Could not go anywhere with that dress without her." My child did try on the dress, but the sales person clearly did not want to see her in the dress and wanted her out of it as quickly as possible. She did not comment or compliment her on the dress. She did not offer her any suggestion on accessorizing. It was the worst experience ever, and my daughter now recognized it for what it was. I was heartbroken. When I asked about seeing other dresses, that cow looked me in the face and said, "I can't show you any other dresses because that dress is the only size 0 we have in the store." I asked the price of the dress, the sales person huffed and told me, "Well this dress is $398." Her face fell when I excitedly told her that I was relieved because I had anticipated paying waaaayyy more for a dress - which is the absolute truth. It is just a shame for you that I won't be spending it at Jacqueline's. I should also mention that my sales person was very animated when commenting on and complimenting the young lady (who unlike my child was not African American) who was also in the store trying on dresses and was being assisted by another sales person. If I could rate this place a -10 I would. THE ABSOLUTE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE! I took my sister there to prom dress shop since it's not even a full month away and we did get started pretty late but FIRST we were supposed to make an appointment which I didn't read on their site, SECONDLY you had yo be with a guardian or someone 21 years of age. Mind you, I am my her guardian, they made us wait about 35/40 minutes, then asked us who we were shopping for, she answered it was for her prom, then with an attitude they proceeded to ask where her guardian was, I responded and said I was her sister, the sales associate asked me again with an attitude where her guardian was, I told her I'm 26 I am her guardian. SHE HAD THE NERVE to look me up and down and didn't even move, I couldn't keep my composure so I proceeded to tell her my mother is deceased, so I AM my sisters guardian with all b.s aside. She looked me up and down...and just told us we had to wait. Finally a different sales associate helped us, she was awesome, but unfortunately we didn't find anything. An unexpected situation with a dress, put me on the dress hunt two days before my event. After combing the short hills mall end-to-end, I decided to try Jaqueline. I live locally and can't say I ever thought to go here for any of my events. I definitely will going forward - thanks to Maddy. After sharing my dilemma, Maddy pulled an arm full of dresses. At first, I wasn't sure we were going to make this happen but sudden she pulled from the back room the perfect chic black dress. On the hanger, it was simple. No beads (sort of wanted some sparkle). I slipped in to it and VIOLA! It was made for me! I definitely had to walk away and think about but Maddy understood and I promised her that I would be in touch. Sure enough, the next morning I called to let her know I was still interested in the dress and several hours later it was mine. The dress was perfect and I felt awesome in it all night long! Definitely stop by and give them a whirl should you need something for a formal event. The only reason I didn't give this shop 5 stars, they have way too many rules for trying on their dresses.
