I visited Jade Day spa recently for a couples massage. He wanted something easy and close to home, so we decided "why not?" I would say that it was a good, no frills, massage. I would not say it was totally relaxing because I asked for deep tissue, and she definitely listened. There are no essential oils and spa music., but it was a pretty inexpensive massage. Affordable prices for a quality massage. ($60/hr before tip). My mom actually recommended this spot and took me here :-) This is in Blackhawk Plaza-- it's one of the few businesses that have actually stood the test of time, while others here rotate nearly every year. Parking is available in both front and back lots. We checked in for our 1pm massage and were promptly ushered to our individual rooms. You're expected to strip down to undergarments, no robe provided. Their massage beds are clean and comfortable, and my massage therapist was very communicative. The first half of my massage was face down, massaging from arms, shoulders, back, and legs. Super thorough. At some point, she started slathering on a MASSIVE amount of oil. Kind of an overwhelming amount tbh, my skin was slick to the touch (at least it wasn't scented). The second half was more focused on upper chest and head, later wiping off the oil with a hot cloth... Skin felt soft but a bit greasy. Overall still relaxing, I almost fell asleep around halfway through. The staff speaks Mandarin along with English, so it's definitely a plus if you can speak. read more

This facility has no practice for asking preliminary questions such as medical conditions or what areas need TLC. It was my first time there and I was just put in a room with no instruction. I waited but then they came back in asking why I wasn't ready yet. It was definitely the most stressful and PAINFUL massage I have ever felt- asking to go softer multiple times. The following days I was in so much pain including bruises where the therapist dug his elbow into bony areas. I couldn't move freely for about a week. I have had massages monthly for years and I've never expected such an experience. I don't believe my therapist was licensed after looking his name up on the CAMTC website with no results found. I thought about not posting this as "you get what you paid for" and an unpleasant experience I will let slide but to leave with injuries that affected my job is upsetting. read more

Once you can find your preference of the female masseuses, those female masseuses are good. I did have an odd interaction with a male worker in the lobby. Males should not be trying to touch any customer in the lobby, and even more so without asking for permission. trash experience. I'm a former massage therapist of 13 years. I was a first time client here, 2 hour appointment for a monday evening. I arrived 20 minutes early, there was no one at the front desk. I was finally greeted by a therapist when her session was over, only to ask my name and check me in then she rushed off again. I was given no intake form. the same therapist came to take me to the service room. she said hello and left quickly giving me no instructions. she didn't ask me about any boundaries or focus areas(for a 2 hour session that's insane). i undressed and got on the table and when she entered i attempted to start a conversation about the work i do, the techniques my body responds well to and where i wanted targeted. she was quite unresponsive. her draping was unprofessional as i could feel my entire backside fully out at one point. she also pulled down my underwear halfway without saying a word on what she was doing. you're supposed to work over the top of any undergarments a client leaves on. the massage itself had no rhythm and was very pokey. she continuously popped back and forth across ropes of tight muscles instead of stripping the tissue out length wise with deep effleurage, which is the technique i had requested. i stayed thru the session rather than cancelling for the off chance this experience would have any redeeming qualities. i knew i had to write this unfortunate review when being wiped down with a hot towel the therapist grazed my private areas and at the end climbed up on the table and mounted my legs to press on my glutes. as someone with tight sensitive muscles, this was the worst massage i've ever received to date and that includes from former boyfriends. yes it was BAD. nothing relaxing about it. when it came time to pay she said card or cash i said card she states "oo cash is always better" like...????? you're lucky i'm paying you at all.... the charge didn't go thru till 6 days later. worst "day spa" experience, if it can even be called that. i don't believe this was a licensed therapist. i don't recommend this place to anyone. they need to work on communication and overall customer experience with a huge emphasis on professionalism and healing focus. read more

I'm surprised to see so many people complaining about tips. Where can you find a massage for $60 an hour in this area?? These poor people sometimes work 8 to 10 hours doing hard labor and not nearly getting paid enough for their time and effort. My friend is a massage therapist and she charges $120 an hour And is always exhausted because of the nature of her work. While I see how it comes across as unprofessional for the staff to ask for more tips, it is also unprofessional for customers to be so cheap while already paying next to nothing for a massage in a very Expensive area. My daughter and I just experienced our first couples massage at Jade Day Spa. She's only 14 but we needed a massage after a rough day of snowboarding from the previous day. I was looking for a couples massage so that we could get a massage in the same room because I didn't want to leave her alone just in case she felt uncomfortable with a stranger massaging her. It was a really nice experience because the masseuses were friendly and listened to how we wanted our massages to be. I like a very deep tissue massage while my daughter prefers a Swedish massage. I like how the spa looks clean and feels cleaner than the other Jade Spas. Free parking outside is also a bonus. Been coming to Jade Day spa for a few years for maybe 4-5 massages a year. Gift certificates there are often stocking stuffers in our family. I understand inflation, etc... and in their last round of price increases they raised prices about 30% (a 1 hour massage went from $45 to $60) and while it's cheaper than the Ritz-Carlton or a resort in Hawaii - it's a lesser experience so I felt it was in line with the experience. I went in today for a massage with Lily. I booked it several days ago online. I arrived 10-15 min early and as I expected there was no ambience and no warm reception. A woman came and asked me my name and time of my massage and confirmed me in the system. After a couple more minutes I was escorted to my room. I prepared for my massage and got under the sheet. A few minutes later (now a few minutes after my scheduled start time) my masseuse entered the room. I thought the massage was good, but not great. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. The massage finished promptly at 90 minutes. When I went to pay, the person checking me out (not my masseuse) told me that my tip wasn't acceptable. Not acceptable? Doesn't the customer get to determine the tip based on the service? I understand that there is a range for services and I generally fall within that range or to the generous end of the range. I tip based on my experience - if I get good service - I tip accordingly. If I get poor service, I tip accordingly. If I have an excellent experience, I tip generously. In this case, I felt that I tipped adequately for the service received and to be told that my tip was unacceptable is not acceptable to me. $60/hr seems a fair rate for the inconsistent experience that you get here. A tip is icing. I'll be back - but I'll leave a cash tip directly with the therapist and it will reflect the service I receive. read more

I used to go to their Crow Canyon Danville location, then switched over to the one in San Ramon because the San Ramon location could accommodate couple's massages. My in-laws gave us a gift card recently for a couple's massage and I called to make an appointment at the San Ramon location before finding out that there was a new location in Blackhawk Plaza that also offered couple's massages ($80 total for two people, one hour). I booked us a weekday afternoon appointment and we weren't disappointed. The spa is clean and well kept, just like the other locations. The two spa employees assigned to us did a fantastic job. If you have a knot...they will find it. I'm always impressed at how they can maintain such constant, even pressure for a full hour. After our massage, our masseuses had two cups of cold water waiting for us. I've said it before and I'll say it again. You can't beat Jade Spa for the quality and value. read more

She collected the gift cards and then complained out loud that the tip was too low while other clients were sitting down in the lobby waiting and listening. Went here with some friends for a spa day. My friend tried to get some water and there was none in the machine, when she asked them, they said no more water. My massage was mostly focused on my back for almost a full hour might have gotten 5-7 mins of legs. Anyways as I was paying, my massause insisted I give her a tip of the amount she was expecting and not I what I wanted to. It's not even like I was tipping badly. My friends comeout and they tipped theory folks exactly how much I was tipping mine but I felt she made me feel shameful and ask me for more. Sad to say it's the admin part of this place that needs an overhaul. The chaotic nature of your first steps into checking in are always disturbing. Nothing of a zen start to your relaxation experience. Besides not too many smiles and greetings when you say hello or speak to them, you might guess they are not pleased. Not pleased with what I can only guess. I don't know. I booked online at their Blackhawk plaza location two massages one for my birthday friend and one for me. After ten minutes after taking my friend into a room I asked about mine. Am I checked in.. where's my masseuse? No one seemed to want to understand or acknowledge after looking at schedule and speaking to each other leaving me in lobby assuming someone would return. Nope. Please save your business and let the masseuses do what they do best and hire someone for the reception to greet and speak to their guests and able to communicate. So disappointing and each visit (there has been 6 visits) and every one has been a fiasco. Bummer, I love supporting small local businesses and a good massage experience. 32 minutes in and still no ones acknowledged me. Guess I'll have to write this place off unfortunately. read more

I really wanted to like this place. I came for a body massage and it was genuinely uncomfortable. I had an older woman who put her ENTIRE body on me, something she never asked me if I was okay with. I understand that there is a language barrier, but the entire staff should be trained on basic etiquette and customer service. I'm more so pissed because I had told my masseuse to change the session to 30 min instead of an hour. She said ok and then proceeded to massage me for an hour. I KNOW she understood when I had asked her because she asked me if it was because her massage was "no good" and I told her it was fine and I just wanted it to be 30 min. I was unable to look at the time (I was flipped over) and I when I did, I found out that an hour had passed. How is this appropriate? The massage itself was a bit too harsh, but I could've spoken up more about that. I got hot stones placed on my body but my sister didn't get that for the same service ? Where is the consistency? I will not come here again, but management: PLEASE train your staff on consistency as well as basic etiquette to ask about things such as placing hot stones on my body, the amount of pressure I'm comfortable with, and putting ur entire body (on all fours) on top of mine! read more

I go to the gym often and I dance for srvhs, along with skateboarding, so mamas body has been through a LOT. i just got a pretty bad sprain so I did the full body hour massage but told them to keep away from the ankle and do more back and glutes since cheerleading gave me spondiolisis(vertebrae fracture). Just had a full body massage at Jade Day spa in Blackhawk. I was surprised to see that the reviews were so bad. I have a feeling the reason is because people have a different expectation because it's in Blackhawk Plaza. This is an Asian run place and yes it is in Blackhawk Plaza but you are paying $40 for a full body massage. Don't expect the pampering and same customer service you get at Burke Williams where you are also paying 3 times the price. They are located across from fat Maddie's in a bright and modern space. The receptionist took me right back to the private room where I was pleasantly surprised to get into a heated massage table. It was a wonderful massage by Cathy. Towards the end she used hot stones to massage and then wiped off the lotion with hot steamed towels. I gave her a $10 tip which is more than 20% but these ladies most likely aren't getting paid much and that's why they are able to keep the price so low. I'm not saying to give a big tip if you don't like the massage but keep in mind the price you're paying. I will definitely be back and maybe bring my husband for a couples massage. read more

I did the 90 minute massage and once finished, I paid for the service and gave her a cash tip, which again a tip isn't mandatory. She gave it back to me and kept saying 20 percent. I said no here's the cash and I thought maybe they only take card tip and so I said okay I'll put it on my card and she kept asking me how much and I said 7 dollars the same as the cash tip I was giving her. She said no 20 percent. And she wouldn't let me put the number down until finally I grabbed the machine to do it. I gave her 10 dollars but I shouldn't have given her anything. That behavior isn't okay. A tip isn't mandatory it's just something nice to give to someone after a service has been done. Forcing 20 percent tip on someone like that isn't okay. I don't recommend this place. The lady who did this was Angela. Again this is not okay and not a good place to go to. Oh and she said the 10 dollar tip wasn't enough still and kept pushing and pushing. read more
