Even for him, it is enough for 2 meals! His favorite item from the dim sum menu is the stir-fried Chinese broccoli with fresh garlic. Everything was outstanding & I would do it again tomorrow. The food was pretty good. Not the best dim sum compared to California or NYC, but solid for Connecticut. The xiao long bao (soup dumplings) were great. The siumai were only ok. Unfortunately the service was extremely slow. I waited 45 minutes for one item and then another 10 minutes for the second item. I ordered sesame balls and baked pork buns to go and they took another 50 minutes to come out. I will come back to give another chance since maybe the kitchen was just having a slow day. read more

We came in 8:20pm thinking they closed by 10pm based on google. It turned out they close at 9pm but they are so nice they still let us order and dine in. We got to chat with the owner Ping very nice gentleman originally from Hong Kong. He came to check on us to make sure everything is good that we like the food. Because it's late there's only one chef in the kitchen, the food still come out fast and excellent quality. Very good service, our server is very busy cleaning up the restaurant while still refill our water and tea and comes over to clean our table. Very polite people here. This is the best Cantonese dinner restaurants in East Coast, forget about going to flushing ny or Brooklyn if you want authentic good Cantonese food, get the real one here. Went to Golden Palace on a Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. We started with the tofu congee with beef and scallions, and it was absolutely delicious--thick, warm, and comforting. A perfect way to start the meal. For mains, we ordered the Sichuan fish stew and the black bean tripe, and both were outstanding. The portions were very generous, and the flavors really delivered. The fish stew had the perfect level of spice, and the tripe was incredibly well-seasoned and cooked just right. On top of the great food, the service was amazing--attentive and efficient without being overbearing. Overall, a fantastic experience and definitely a spot I'll be coming back to. read more

I came here for dinner before a show at Mohegan Sun. It's about 10 minutes away from the casino. I came here before and enjoyed the Dim Sum but they stop serving that after 5PM. When we got there were are seated quickly for 5 people. They place looks clean and have plenty of seating. We looked at the menu and all got a combo. I got the beef and broccoli combo. It came with a lot of food for about $20 which is much cheaper than getting food at the casino. But the food was ummm alright. It was pretty salty and it was very heavy handed in the oyster sauce. The fried rice didn't have much flavor and the egg roll and chicken wings were lukewarm. Seems like it was maybe seating under a heating lamp. It was all edible but nothing exciting. Next time I will come back and try the dim sum again and see if it was as good as I remember. We may just came on an off night. read more

There's a lot of Chinese delivery places in the area, but few that you can sit down and enjoy a meal. It's a treat when we're able to get out here, order up some dim sum, and then just enjoy a darn good meal. There's quite a selection of dim sum to choose from and it's hard to choose which ones to order. However, you won't go wrong with any of your selections. What you think a typical Chinese restaurant would be like. The decor and staff was like a classic early 2000s vibe. The staff quickly ask what you want, and don't bother you unless you call to them for something. The staff though was very friendly and recommended some things that she thought wasn't good / out of season and some dishes that tasted good. We really liked the cilantro pork soup, had great flavor and consistency. We got the spicy Sichuan fish which was classic and we also got tripe with black beans which was good too. read more

As many have noted, the dim sum at Golden Palace surpasses all in this region. Prices have increased, portions have shrunk, quality has decreased. Flavors are not the same, legitimately used to be my favorite chinese restaurant. The staff are rude unattentive and don't want to be bothered with you. They legitimately gave me one soy sauce and one spicy mustard with a twenty dollar meal to go with no napkins or utensils! It's so sad to see a place you one's loved so much deteriorate into this. I don't think I will be coming here as it's not worth it anymore! So many more options that are more affordable and flavorful locally! :( read more

It's tough to miss this place if you're driving past it, and it calls to you with its over the top architecture. I do love going here for dim sum, though it's better if you go with multiple people and can share the plates. I've also had some of their non dim sum and feel they execute some real quality here. Plus, you know it's authentic when you're the only white person in the room. On that note, however, I have to ding this place a star. If you're not Chinese, or speak Chinese, they're going to treat you a little lesser. I've been ignored for long periods, had my chopsticks removed and replaced with silverware (after choosing to sit at a table with only chopsticks instead of the adjacent table with silverware). I've been told the dim sum I ordered is out and they'll have to take 20 minutes to make more egg custard tarts, did I want to wait or cancel, then as soon as I cancel they bring a tray of egg custard tarts to the table behind me who just sat down. It doesn't happen all the time, but it also doesn't never happen. In spite of these possible inconveniences, I'd still recommend it because the food is good, and that's what matters, in my book at least. read more

No greeting, no smile, just attitude. We waited almost 20 minutes before anyone even took our order, and when the food finally came out, it was cold, bland, and honestly tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. When I politely mentioned it to the server, they rolled their eyes and walked away -- no apology, no offer to fix it. The manager wasn't any better; rude, dismissive, and clearly didn't care about their customers. For the prices they charge, you'd expect at least basic service and edible food, but they failed on both. There are plenty of better restaurants nearby that actually appreciate your business. We had tickets to a show at Mohegan and we're staying overnight at a nearby hotel so we checked out area restaurants ,we have eaten at the casino enough, and saw that Golden Palace had many positive reviews. We looked at the menu online and we were excited to try the delicious sounding food. The restaurant looks well cared for and fairly modern. After we were seated our waitress came over with a bowl of crispy wonton wrappers with hot mustard and duck sauce in little bowls. The waitress seemed harried and had to return to bring us water. We looked at the menu but my wife had her heart set on dim sum. When it was time to order we found out dim sum ends before 5pm. My wife then chose steamed dumplings and Kung pow chicken, I went with roast pork and shrimp egg rolls and garlic chicken and we were splitting a side of vegetable fried rice. We were enjoying the wonton wrappers until the first layer was gone, underneath were greasy old ones. We noticed our waitress was running around the dining room and seemed overwhelmed. Our appetizers arrived and initially looked great. My egg rolls were not greasy and were stuffed full and wife's dumplings were good sized and had a tasty dipping sauce on the side. After trying both aps,however, looks were a bit deceiving. My egg rolls were stuffed full but were Luke warm and soft..not at all crispy. The dumpling wrappers were very thick and a bit gummy but the filling was delicious until my wife bit into something like grizzel. Our waitress hadn't come back until our entrees were ready. We could have used refills on water. My garlic chicken consisted of giant chunks of green peppers with a few pieces of other vegetables and a generous amount of sliced white meat chicken. The sauce was thick and tasted of nothing but salt. It was like taking a bite of a salt lick. My wife's Kung pow chicken had the same giant chunks of green pepper along with whole peanuts and chicken slices. Her sauce lacked the spicy kick that a Kung pow dish is known for. It also tasted mostly of salt, severely in fact. The vegetable fried rice had a minimum amount of veg, mostly consisting of what appeared to be canned products. The waitress finally refilled our waters which we promptly finished off. We then waited 20 minutes for the bill. We were growing short on time so I tracked her down and asked for the bill. We paid and left the rest of the food. It wasn't leftover worthy. Next time we are in the area for a show we will give Golden Palace a pass. read more

It's not easy to find dim sum in Connecticut. I decided to stop for a late lunch at Golden Palace. I'm really glad that I did. The restaurant reminds me of the Debbie Wong style Chinese restaurants of the 90's. They have the normal "American style Chinese " fair that you would expect. They also have quite the extensive dim sum menu as well. I was impressed if not a little overwhelmed at the awesome selection of delicious little bites. I settled on an order of chicken wings, flat noodles with pork and shrimp, pork with woodear fungus and cilantro dumplings, roasted pork buns and steamed rice in lotus leaves. I was a little disappointed that all of the dim sum didn't come out with each other but the taste made up for this minor issue. The chicken wings are incredible, spiced very well. juicy, and crunchy enough to where you could eat everything but the bone. The flat noodles with pork were a little bland and I wish I had gotten more of the black vinegar sauce. The pork buns were sweet, meaty and perfectly pillowy. The steamed rice lotus leaves were so delicious, it was the dish I was most happy I ordered. I enjoyed my meal and can't wait to go back. read more

Not bad dim sum for my first time Girlfriend really wanted me to try a true dim sum experience. One where they go around with a cart and you grab n go. Not too many places in CT offer dim sum, and this came up as one of the best. So we made the trek to give them a try. The location is nice. It's close to the casino but not too close. Inside and outside are well decorated and there's no mistaking this place from any side. The staff were not very hospitable. They were very much in rush mode so any semblance of kindness were out the window. It was very much, "here's your sheet" then left you at the cashier for you to figure out your own seating arrangement. We managed to find a place to sit, then began to go through the list. My girlfriend was a little bummed out that they didn't do the carts anymore, but we checked off what we wanted and waited for the items to arrive. First off, the plates were pretty big. The portions were plentiful, way more than we thought we would get for the price paid. We had to sample everything and a lot went to waste sadly. For me, the best bite was the duck egg bao. Was rich, creamy, sweet, and runny. The warm bao bun was the pillowly egg yolk delivery vessel, and it was messy but in the best way. The chicken wings were also well cooked and fairly large. They didn't have much flavor, but they were good wings. The rest? We ordered a lot but whatever item you got pretty much blended together. Most of the items ordered had this pork and shrimp mix, and it pretty much tasted like that too. The only difference being the wrapper. Overall, not bad. This palace is not actually golden. Some things may be OK (we hoped) and other things not so good (we found). I believe it is a roulette situation. My one (Moey) and I stumbled upon this palace and decided to peep it out as we enjoy peeping out fun-looking Chinese places as part of our gastronomical and sociological studies. It was the fun-looking building that drew us in. The service was wicked friendly AF. The menu had the usual stuff: Subgums, Kow Pangs and Moo Shoes, etc. We ordered a Golden Cup and a Mai Tai which had umbrellas and were boozy in nature and OK tasting. I ordered the Three Delights and Moey ordered her usual PuPu Pladder. My dish was described as containing "Chinese vegatables" which proved to be carrots, green peppers, Pennsylvania shrooms, and onions. I think those are American. It was a monotone color and bland and hardly Chinese tasting. I'm quite sure it was comprised largely of tidbits of recycled stuff rather than being custom prepared. It was a low "meh" at best. Moey's Pladder was janky and no bueno. Rock-hard fossilized reheated stuff and the Spare Ribs were tasteless, dry AF and tough (anti-fall-off-the-bone). Egg Roll was semi-edible. Pork Fried Rice was fried quite some time ago. My term for this all-too-common foodstuff is Prehistoric Fried Rice or Petrified Fried Rice. To be fair, this Pladder was probably potentially good (at one time). Admittedly, the hot tea was good though. It was wicked hot and was "loose" -not tea bags and they offered several types. We had an amazing experience at the Golden Palace. If you are looking for Dim Sum or traditional Chinese cuisine, this is the place. They only serve Dim Sum from 10am-5pm. We decided to come to the Golden Palace to celebrate my husband's birthday for lunch. We were seated at a large table that had a lazy susan in the center--we had a party of seven. We ordered a pot of jasmine tea to start as we skimmed through the menu. The food is served family style and we had to mark how many dishes we wanted on the menu. The waiter was so kind helping us fill out the sheet and pick items from the menu. They were able to adjust entrees like the Chow Fun to be made with vegetables only. Since we didn't see duck on the menu, we asked if they had a duck dish and they were able to cook up a whole roast duck for us. After our order was in, food started to come out within minutes. First was egg custard tarts, stir-fried bok choy, vegetable Chow Fun, scallion pancakes, roast pork buns, and shrimp dumplings. There were many dishes that came out while we grazed like fried rice, soup dumplings, chicken feet and more! The roast duck was the last dish to arrive at the table. Everything was served hot and fresh. Everything had a lot of flavor, the chow fun, bok choy and scallion pancakes being my top favorites. The staff was so friendly and liked starting up conversation as they brought food or to fill up our waters. We had to waitresses checking up on us until we asked for the bill and a to-go box (we could not finish the roast duck, there was so much). It was amazing how fast the staff turned over tables in the restaurant since it was fairly busy. It's safe to say we did not leave hungry. This restaurant is near by the Mohegan Sun Casino and right off the highway. If you are in the area, I highly recommend giving the Golden Palace a try. The make a really solid general tsaos chicken and their orange Chicken is great as well, with a real nice spice level to it. I like their lunch specials too, you can get general Tsao's chicken with a crab Rangoon and fried rice. I've been dying to try their dim sum, but haven't had a chance yet. Went with a co-worker for lunch the other day, and we ordered off the Dim-Sum menu. The staff was fantastic. The waitress sat us immediately and took our drink orders. She then helped us (my friend had never eaten here before and she helped him understand how to order off the dim-sum menu) and was very friendly. She made his favorite dish recommendation (The fried wontons) The food came out VERY quickly (and not all at once, we were given a dish here and then another a few minutes later.) All of it was VERY fresh. Some came out very hot, right off the steamer/out of the pan. The one ding, as mentioned in other reviews, is that the check took too long to come, and then never got picked up. The waitress says "You know Chow Mein doesn't come with noodles right?" I'm sure the waitress was asking to make sure we knew what we were ordering, but we definitely know what we were ordering. Then, we finished our food and waited for 45min for the waitress to come by our table for the check. We couldn't wave her down. The food came out decently fast, but the service was very slow. There is parking space outside the restaurant, so you don't need to leave your home early to find parking.
