Today is Sunday Aug 23rd. Another "mistake" at checkout. The guy who checks out customers is a lot to be desired. Overcharged us by $12.00. Didn't catch it till we got home to eat the food. This buffet is the best buffet I have ever been too, honestly amazing!!! I go here all the time on the regular just to even get take out, which is such a nice option they have! I would highly recommend the honey chicken to anyone that comes here it's so delicious and no other place I have found has honey chicken like this!! The service is pretty good when you go in, usually the servers walk by the table multiple times to pick up dirty dishes and refill drinks, I think the atmosphere is very nice with nice lighting that is never harsh on the eyes, and lots of pretty decorations including a cute coin fountain in the waiting area!! read more

My usual Chinese buffet place was closed so thought I'd give this restaurant a try. Parking lot was loaded including a senior bus so I had high hopes. Stood for a few minutes while the hostess and server had a conversation and ignored I was there. Finally after 5 minutes I was seated and my drink order was taken. They have multiple stations, 2 just for desserts and they have an ice cream station as well. Headed to find the hot and sour soup. It looked good, that's about all I can say about it it wasn't hot or sour, just pretty bland overall. The chips I put in wouldn't even absorb the liquid and they were pretty tough. Next on to the appetizers. Teriyaki chicken on a skewer was very large and had good flavor. Egg roll, again, was very large had pork in it but not much flavor. Crab Rangoon was medium sized but was mostly fried wonton than filling. Spring roll was small as expected, flavorless as was the pot sticker. On to the entrees. Have to say there wasn't anything I can really comment on. The only thing that comes o mind is the honey chicken, nice flavor and crispness. The food was piled high on all the stations. The whole time I was there I didn't see one dish replenished which means things were staying on the steam tables for a while. Having said that I only found one or two things that were on the dry side. They did have great hot mustard, brought tears to my eyes which is what I like. There is a very large sushi station. Was a little odd to see a dog in the restaurant. Small one, nothing to identify it as a support dog however. And people not minding theirs kids as the kids put their hands into a number of desserts, so didn't have dessert. Given my experience I really can't say that I would go back again. Price was in line with my usual place, $15.29 for the buffet with a soft drink. Atmosphere is okay, noisy for the size of the restaurant which is to be expected. read more

Arguably the best Chinese buffet in the Greater Hartford area as of 2023, even though it's all the way down in Willi. I've been here many times over the last couple of years and I've never had a bad experience, whether for lunch, dinner, weekday, weekend or even close to closing time. They've got sushi with real pieces of tuna, salmon and whitefish and tempura shrimp too. During dinner, there's plenty of shrimp & chicken dishes as well. The (dinner) spicey mussels were good. Was happy to see plump potstickers/dumplings and chow mei fun (rice noodles) still available during dinner. As usual for most buffets, light on vegetables, but there are pre-made green beans. However, there's a ton of vegetables available for cooking on the Hibachi grill - zucchini, napa cabbage, bean sprouts to name a few that you're not going to find in the buffet dishes that are mostly carrot, broccoli and peppers from the pepper steak and the fried pepper shrimp. Speaking of, the hibachi grill area itself is small and you might have to wait a bit during busy times but the ingredients are well stocked well into the night. Had business in town on a Wednesday late morning and decided to give it a try. The place is located at a small plaza that looks tired and dated, but inside is a different story. Got seated, placed drink orders and off we go. First impression is the variety. There are plenty of choices, and if you can't find what you want, you're not hungry! We had soups, which were both good, then tried the typical pupu platter items. All were hot, fresh, and tasted good. We tried the sushi, and I have to admit, the rolls were something you don't expect at a buffet. All rolled perfectly and the choices again were something not expected at buffets. Rice was sticky, as sushi rice is supposed to be, but my wife thought it was too sticky. I guess it's a matter of taste. They had a good choice of desserts but we passed on them. Again, it's a buffet and I'm rating it as such. If you're in the area, it's worth giving it a try. read more

They have a variety of food, pizza, sushi bar, a party room which I assume you can rent for parties as I saw speakers and a TV (karaoke?), I assume they opened the party room because it was full at 6:30 pm. I have been coming here since the end of the pandemic and it is a one hour trip for me. The food is pretty good here otherwise I wouldn't make the drive here. Overall the food is fresh and stocked. My favorites are the orange chicken , pepper chicken , teriyaki Chicken .The seating is comfortable and the hibachi is a nice touch, there are cold sushi offerings that are pretty decent so almost everyone should find something to like here. Visited our daughter at ECSU for Family Day. Decided to eat at one of her favorite local spots, Royal Buffet. Different than any buffet I've ever been too. They have the standard buffet stations that have anything you could possibly want, from, fresh sushi, lo mein, sweet & sour chicken, egg drop soup, hot & sour soup, etc..to American classics like wings and mac & cheese. They also have a huge selection of desserts that are included in the price of the buffet. But what was really awesome was the hibachi station. You take an empty plate and pile on whatever fresh seafood, chicken, meat, veggies, egg, etc that you want and tell the chef which sauce you want, i.e. Teriyaki, soy sauce, etc, and he cooks it fresh!! For 3 buffet meals, a soda and 2 beers, our tab was less than $40 before tip!!! We will definitely be back!! read more

Not the worst and not the best. With the beloved home town buffet recently closing in Manchester, CT. and the buffet at Foxwoods being under renovation this is one of the few decent buffets left. It falls more into the Chinese food buffet category but they also have American food,sushi,hibachi,ect. The price is fairly cheap and the place is always pretty busy. Again I find myself house sitting for my kid sister in the barely a town at all of Columbia, Connecticut. Not wanting to raid her pantry too badly, I asked about her nearby favorites. As a result, my trip to Royal Buffet was all but a given. Upon entering, I was greeted with two bickering preteens, who were quickly dispatched by an adult, who abruptly took my twelve dollars and escourted my to my seat. Oddly enough, I found this scenario somewhat amusing. On to the meal. There were four steam tables, two devoted to Chinese food, one to mixed american dishes and one to salads and deserts. There was also a sushi bar, that housed an impressive array of sushi, along with a genial hibachi chef, poised to take orders. As I am wont to do, I loaded my plate with stuffed clams, steamers as crab meat, as well as traditional shredded chicken with steamed vegetables in a white sauce. The required crab rangoons and an egg roll topped my plate. From the top of my plate downward, I began the crab rangoon. Finding it soft, slightly crisp, yet chewey, and packed with flavor, I felt I was off to a good start. On to the egg roll. The outer "roll" bore the same consisency as the crab rangoon. The inner contents...not so much. Dry and flavorless is the only way to describe in. Sadly, this description also applied to the stuffed clams, which seemed to contain no clams at all. There were several varieties of cooked shrimp, each of which offered some redemption to the seafood category, each being well seasoned and tasty. The shredded chicken met expectations, no more, no less; but, the vegetables were surprsingly crisp and flavorful. I capped off the meal with a bite of sweet and sour pork which, had I sampled first, might have been the bulk of my meal. All in all, I ca say I've had better; but then again, I have had worse. If you're hungry, Roya Buffet is worth a stop. Just be sure to make your choices carefully. read more

I've been here several times with relatives when I visit the area and I haven't a clue as to how/why they insist on eating here. The waitstaff look more annoyed than welcoming coming when you walk in. No greetings or smiles, not even when they came to the table to clear away plates or leave the check. They act like they don't understand English very well and answering your questions about anything are a real bother for them. I get it, I'd hate this job too! The buffet is bountiful, but not in a good way. I try to find the "healthiest " choices and come up empty. As a vegetarian, my options are limited to start with, but many of the meat items look very, very greasy. There is never any vegetarian sushi, and to ask for it, they just huff and make you a poorly wrapped roll. Sad. While the big bowl of rice looks inviting, it certainly is not. It was VERY dry and not fit for human consumption!! Rice is the easiest thing not to mess up, and yet, this place manages to do just that. In fact, the impression with most of the food on the buffet tables look like recycled leftovers. Everything looks dry and old like it's been sitting there for weeks. The desserts look nice, but they are dry and stale and I couldn't even eat it it after only one bite. The ice-cream scoops were in very dirty water so even that felt contaminated so I avoided the ice-cream altogether. The environment feels very unhygienic so I just go to be with my relatives and eat very little, mostly oranges and the over boiled sweet potatoes as it looks like nothing could be added to that, but I question the kitchen which it came out of *shivers.* Did I expect the Ritz? No, but I did expect better quality food in a clean environment. I don't like writing bad reviews, but with each visit ( this is my third) I keep finding more and more wrong with this place. It has no god redeeming qualities. It could use a good health inspection, extermination, and better food hygiene using fresh ingredients and not recycling the food each day. It is absolutely horrible and I feel sorry for the folks who work here and KNOW what's wrong with the place and KNOW what kind of food prep and service they are offering. Somehow, carved out of the beautiful, sweeping landscapes of Eastern Connecticut lies this deteriorating hamlet, forgotten by time, and the middle class. So now it's a bastion for college students. Indeed, no weekend at UConn was complete without a post-binge drinking Sunday brunch at Royal Buffet. Where else could you stuff your face with unlimited mediocre crap for $7? Or $10 for dinner. And yes, they do the crab legs for dinner. As far as Chinese Buffets go, they always did a pretty decent job. I'll never forget - we once took our friend Dan here for his birthday, and the waitstaff knew about it. Little did we know what was about to happen. They arranged some of the crappy cake from the buffet on a plate, lit some candles, and brought it to the table... all while playing the most broken-English recording of "Happy Birthday" I have ever heard in my life. It was my first time dining at the Royal Buffet on a Sunday in March, 2015, early afternoon. The food selection was vast. BUFFET: Among the many offerings were some tasty options (especially the dumplings); however, I found that many of the meats weren't adequately trimmed, i.e. there was fat and grizzle in the chicken and pork dishes. The flavors were different and somewhat pleasurable, but some things lacked flavor (e.g. Lo Mein, stuffed shrimp). I found that I left more scraps on my plate than other Asian buffets. SUSHI: There were many sushi options, but there were no descriptions other than "Chef's Special" to describe what I was eating - this turned me off and I didn't want to sample something that was unknown to me. HIBACHI: After sampling the many offerings in the buffet, unfortunately I was not hungry enough to try the hibachi. The hibachi station provided made-to-order dishes, similar to an omelet or pasta station. At first it seemed that the station was part of the buffet, and I saw some people helping themselves to some of the raw vegetables which were actually meant only for specific hibachi orders. This was concerning because in addition to the vegetables on display, the protein options (RAW pork and shrimp) were set out front in close proximity to everything else and available for someone to inadvertently take without knowing. I do wish that I tried the hibachi because I was curious about what sauce would be used (teriyaki?). SWEETS: Dessert lovers would be very pleased as there are so many options to cure a sweet tooth. SERVICE: Acceptable - no complaints. CLEANLINESS (OR LACK THEREOF): The carpet was dirty and stained, the booth seats were uncomfortable and repaired with tape, each booth/table contained a taped hand-written number for the benefit of the wait staff, and the bathroom (although seemingly newly furnished with tile and fixtures) was dirty with cleaning buckets in plain sight.
