I came here on a date this past weekend and I was very happy with my experience here. I called earlier and was informed that they don't take reservations for groups under 6, but I was ensured that it would not be a long wait if I just showed up at 7:30 with my date. Well, we got there on time, and there were not tables available at that precise moment but the staff were gracious and sat as at the bar to have a drink while we waited. Fortunately, just a few minutes later a table opened up and we were promptly seated. The decor was quite nice as well. I would call it new age rustic, if that makes any sense. It was definitely a cozy atmosphere, typical of French bistros. The music might have been the funniest part of the experience, as they played anything from disco to what sounded like early 20th century Soviet ballads, to pop. Now, onto the food. We shared an order of the bacon wrapped scallops and we were both quite pleased with how they tasted. The bacon was crisp, but not too crisp that you couldn't taste the flavor, and the scallops tasted fresh. For the main dish, I ordered a Quiche poulet, and I was very pleased with how it tasted. My date ordered the mozzarella, tomato, basil pressed sandwich and she enjoyed this as well. Overall, this was a very nice find, definitely a great date spot, and a good and pleasant place to spend a weekend evening. I highly recommend. read more

More like 4.5. At first I didn't know what all the fuss was all about. This feels like the quintessential French wine bar-- it has rustic charm and is effortlessly chic yet unpretentious. Interestingly, the more I come, the better this place seems to get. Fit for any party (dates, events, girls night out), they have an impressive selection of wine and diverse menu options. Had my first try of escargot which tasted delicious since it was saturated in butter and garlic. The fromage is great and so are their pressed sandwiches and quiche--both come with greens. Hands down the better days are the more low key days which also happen to be the days with the best HH deals. Come here Monday and get $40 wine bottles half off all night, if not, check it out on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for half off specials on wine by the glass from 5-7pm. read more

Came here for dinner in a Friday night because a host of other places in the lower east side were full. Food was so good! We ordered the cheese board with the lamb, duck rillettes, Pierre Robert cheese and reblochon cheese (we love soft cheeses), bacon wrapped scallops, escargot, mushroom truffle risotto puffs and Lorraine quiche. Cheese & meat board, bacon wrapped scallops and risotto puffs were the highlights of the meal and unique to this restaurant. The escargot and quiche were good but you could get the same dishes elsewhere. Ambience was casual. The interior is dimly lit and lined with brick walls. There are large communal tables in the back open to groups of diners to drink, eat and even play board games. All in all would definitely recommend this cute spot in LES read more

The sauce that the escargot was covered in was so good my friends and I started dipping our bread into it after we devoured the escargot. I even asked the waitress what the sauce consisted of and it's: butter, garlic, and parsley..MMMMsogood. It's a great place to sit and have wine with friends and enjoy the fromage or meat platters. I ordered a popeye quiche, as well, and it was so creamy and rich --don't think I'll look at La Madeleine quiches the same way again. read more

UPDATE: I stopped by Jadis again and have to reiterate how much I luv this place. This time, the place was busy so we ate at the bar which was comfortable. The wine selection is top notch and the Malbec they have by the glass is superb. I also had a glass of their Rieseling by the glass and that was good too. This time, ordered a salad with chicken, greens, tomatoes, parm cheese and nuts (can't remember name but it's the last salad in the section) and it was beyond excellent. ___ If Jadis wasn't located SO very far from where I work and live I would be in deep sh*t. This place is unique, unpretentious, homey and delicious in one package. It was perfect for a date and service was present while not being obstrusive. The space is big enough for a big party to be comfortable. Jadis has these huge tables and benches to dine at and in the back is the drinking area with comfy chairs and sofas. The food was great--like an Italian sandwich press shop. My only gripe was that I thought the bread was a taaaad harder than it should be. If you like pressed sandwiches and cheese and wine, Jadis is a great spot. read more

Jadis, the cute, hidden, little French gem of a wine bar on Rivington St. I went here last night with my co-worker/friend and 2 of her friends (my 2 acquaintances). At first, I saw the huge windows and wooden door and thought, "oh gosh, we're going to one of "those" places with the shabby little setup inside." Boy was I wrong! Jadis was a pleasant surprise. Although a tad bit dark on the inside, it adds to the overall feel and ambiance of the place. We sat at the bar for the evening. Looking around, the space has exposed brick on the inside and actual book shelves with books for your leisure. I saw a few people take a book or two out of the shelves to glance about. The service was quick and everyone who helped us that evening was pleasant. We had the mixed olives for an appetizer which was my first taste EVER of olives. I must say, I'm impressed. Later on, my friend and the acquaintance ordered the Escargot and Pesto as a second appetizer. I don't see myself eating snails so I had to take a pass. They seemed to thoroughly enjoy that plate. The bottle of wine started then and our glasses were politely attended to as the evening went on. For the filling snackage portion, my friend and I got the chicken, pesto, goat cheese, and roasted peppers sandwich. Her friend (my acquaintance) got the Oscar salad - squash or pumpkin (I forget which it was), chicken, mixed salad, walnuts, and a choice of 2 dressings. We all took a sample of that which was pretty good. The portions weren't too big and just right. We had the creme brulee for dessert which was amazing. The sugar on top wasn't too burnt and and the custard was not too sweet, and not too thick. I've had a couple of variations, and I must say, this was the best I've had. Jadis is a great place for a girls/guys night out to just chillax or an intimate date setting. In any case, it's simply a 5-star choice. read more

I LOVE Jadis! This is my favorite wine bar. The set up and decor of the the place is great, dimly lit with lots of wood, barrels and book cases too. They have comfortable sofa seating in the back and adorable little wooden tables out front. This place is not right for you if you're looking for a big hearty meal as the portions are small and all the food is pretty light. They have a great selection of wine and the waitresses give great recommendations. Really cute, intimate and cozy wine bar in the LES! Has a very rustic charm to it with exposed brick, candles and mood lighting. I came here last night (Saturday) for a friend's bday party and loved it. And considering it was a Saturday night, I was pleasantly surprised at how although it was lively and filled with people, it wasn't to the point where you couldn't breathe / move. The front is the general bar area and then in the back, there is an open space with couches for people to sit at. The space in the back can be reserved for private parties which is awesome. I would say it could fit a good 25-30 ppl comfortably. Definitely recommend for a nice, mature night out if you're looking to get away from the youngins'! read more

Bad karma? Lies? This is just silly. I wrote my review because that is what happened. And yes, I had my phone out and was watching the clock because the whole reason why we chose your restaurant was because of the happy hour special (we intended to get there earlier but were running late). Why didn't I complain while I was there? Because it wasn't worth it. I have worked in the service industry for five years. I know how it works. And I never make a big scene of things at the time because I'm not looking for apologies or something to be taken off my check. All I wanted was a nice night out with my friends. This was, as I said in my original review, horrible service. Maybe I caught you guys on a bad day - it happens. But I am telling you about my experience while I was there. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. And I didn't even get to try the food (not that I would want to after our terrible experience there!) After assuring my friend who had called ahead that they could seat 20, my friend made a reservation for our group. We were led not to a table, but to a back lounge area - quite tight and unexpected but it was fine. That was our fault for not doing our research on their space. They did their best to accommodate us with extra chairs and stools. We were still rather cramped though and asked the waitress if we could adjust one of the couches so we could fit more people. She agreed and helped us move it and we arranged ourselves. THEN, the owner (?) or another man came and told us to we had to move. He needed the couch for another party that was coming in. We said that the waitress allowed us to use it and we were already clearly settled and comfortable. He did not apologize; he did not offer us another option. He was pushy and rude and pretty much forced my friends out of the couch they had given us so that they could seat other customers. My entire group walked out. There are many things that I can be gracious about. I do not mind if we were all cramped and uncomfortable the entire dinner. But one thing I cannot STAND is RUDE, BAD SERVICE. DO NOT GO HERE unless you don't mind being treated like crap. read more

I hate saxophones. I really do. They ruin perfectly good pop songs and turn an otherwise sexy Rob Lowe into a total dork (see: "St. Elmo's Fire"...on second thought, don't). However, the saxophone player at Jadis is great and the unobtrusive live music adds to the vintage, dark wood decor and old-world-cool atmosphere. I've been to Jadis three times, twice for pre-Bowery Ballroom shows with my best friend and most recently for a birthday party. Each time was different, but I always found myself delightfully wasted on Riesling and Prosecco (i know, my sweet tooth embarrasses me too) by the end of the night. The waitress are helpful and really know their wines, and the kitchen's careful selection of panini and quiches make for perfect, indulgent snacks. Highly recommended for romantic dates, parties, and any other situations where you want to be able to hear the person next to you. Met a girlfriend here for Happy Hour on Wednesday--we were looking for a cosy French spot to reminisce about our recent Paris trip. What a gem! Went on a Friday and it was pretty crowded, but we scored a table for 2 immediately in between two large parties (they turned out to be loud and obnoxious) but that's not really the restaurant's fault. We proceed to order too much food and a carafe of really decent syrah. Everything that came out was delicious and pared with a tasty and palate cleansing balsamic vinaigrette salad. The smoked duck was especially tasty as were the crabcakes with a spicy dip. I just wish the panini was cooked a little more so that the cheese was more gooey, but it was still tasty. I can't wait to go back on a non-weekend night. They seem to have plenty of books and games to play while you drink wine and eat cheese in a totally non-pretentious setting. read more

I came here after work for drinks and dinner with a friend. On a Thursday around 7pm it was pleasantly quiet and we were able to get a table without a reservation. I got a glass of Cab which was delicious. It was a light red with just a hint of earthy taste. Easy to drink and good for those of us who don't like feeling like a vampire downing a quart of blood. We split the beet salad, olives and the crab cakes. I liked that the crab cakes were mini so they'd be good for sharing for a table of two or three. Both were delicious! I got the Popeye Quiche with goat cheese and spinach. It was so good! I highly recommend it. The only problem with quiche is that it doesn't taste as good the second time around, so no leftovers and I was only able to finish half of it. The spot was quiet enough to chat and catch up and the waitress was attentive, but not hovering over us. Pricing wise it was fair, only $60 (with tip) for each of us. My sister-in-law had her birthday party here and it was lovely. They gave us the back area which was super comfy and relaxed with the nice couches and cozy atmosphere. The service was great, very helpful but not overwhelming and the tapas was perfect for everyone to have something to nosh on (great selection of cheeses, meats, olives, etc. as you'd expect). And of course there was a nice selection of wine and they thoughtfully brought out a bunch of glasses to keep the table stocked as new people arrived. I've also been here for a book club group and it was equally enjoyable. All in all, a great low key vibe with excellent service and good wine. You can get some really decently priced wine here. The atmosphere is fine but not spectacular (sometimes the music is too loud AND has absolutely nothing to do with a french countryside-themed menu. The food is also good but not spectacular. If you're in the mood for shredded duck, there is a heaping pile of it on the salad (the one that boasts duck, of course). Overall, I've been happy here. It does the job, absolutely. And it's entirely unpretentious among its peers. For instance, a server once, after pouring a taste (sorry if there's a term for this custom) for the gentleman who ordered the bottle at my table, caught a whiff of the wine and gently - oh so gently - questioned my friend's decision to go ahead with the spoiled bottle. He didn't have to do that. He could have let us drink a little vinegar or he could have called my friend out on his less-than-discerning palate. It was nice. read more

I came here for a book club meeting and was enamored by the interior decor and attention to detail. The inside of this place reminds you of "grandma's living room" with the antique lamps and sofas but the food is exceptionally well curated, delicious,and extremely reasonable! I got the beets with goat cheese (small plate) but it was enough to fill me up and deliciously made. All in all i think Jadis has a lot of charm and delicious food. Alleluia! After 2 years of missing out on Jadis during my New Yorker days, I finally made it to a "last-supper" shindig with a couple of friends on my last night of a weekend visit. As expected, the place was simple and beautiful with the exposed brick walls, wood-and-leather decor. We sat comfortably in the large couches in the back. The wine list was extensive and, as always, beyond my comprehension. My wine-loving friend seemed to be excited by it, if that is any indication of "good." My Malbec from Argentina was delicious and smooth. We also thoroughly enjoyed the food: pressed sandwiches, salads, and quiches were all incredibly yummy. In particular, the Georges salad (grilled chicken, arugula, bacon, parmasan with balsamic vinegarette) was out-of-this-world. On this night (Monday), they also featured a live jazz band which, for me, is an automatic ++! I could not have wished for a better way to end my oh-so-sweet weekend homecoming visit to NYC. Jadis offered the comfortable and yet sophisticated ambiance that was a perfect complement to a few friends' see-ya-later dinner. read more

Totally enjoyed this spot the other night. Went on a Monday night, and it was warm and cozy. Love the rustic, ski lodgy feel. Got a spot right in the front by the window, and there were only a few other patrons. The man who I think was the manager was wonderfully kind and attentive without venturing into Annoyingville. I had a delicious and excellently presented sopressata (I think?) panini that was perfectly done (not too dry or tough), with a really fresh salad of mixed greens and two great white wines that were generous in size and well priced. Oh yeah, clean bathrooms too. This is an excellent winter spot and a much better pick than crowded, clangy, overpriced 'inoteca just down the street. I wish I remembered more, but I got drank. Staff at jadis were great, but food, not so much. Wine selection is good. We came here with about 15 girls for a bachelorette party and had the back area. There should be two plates of each appetizers but they came out one at a time and alternated. Cheese came then some small stuff came then cheese came again. Took forever and felt like we had to keep reliving our mistakes over and over again. might possibly come here with a tiny group for wine. i am torn. i want to give this place 2.75 stars. read more

Came here this past Sunday for a friend 30th bday. What a cute place. I was expecting it to be packed but no, it was nice and roomie. There were 11 girls and we had a blast. The food here are obliviously the small plates kinda food. The birthday girl had ordered before hand so the food just kept coming. Cheese board - not a cheese person so I only tried here and there and they were pretty good. Meat board - love the pulled duck and pate. Well I like pate and as long as you know how much to put on ur bread, you will be fine. Some friends don't like it too much. Well more for me. Haha Crab cake - must try!! Soooo good! You can def taste the crab Bacon wrapped scallop - yum! Scallop cooked perfect not chewy Quiche Lorraine - pretty good but I had better Quiche asperge - not bad but when it's cold it didn't taste too good. Mushroom truffle risotto puffed - yummy!!!!! Too good to missed. Bruxelles - yum! Delicious Provencale - not bad The wine selections were awesome too. I love it. Especially love the kir. If you guys are Malaysian or know this drink called Ribena, it tastes like that but with white wine. Well it is blackcurrant liqueur with white wine or if you like champagne, try the kir royale. Charmed. Just charmed by this place. Came here for happy hour w/ a girlfriend (we had some major catching up to do on the somber and upbeat side) so this was the perfect place for it. Not too many people, and we had our choice of seats at the bar, tables in the front dining room area, OR the comfy, lounge area in the back (better suited for a chill date though) lol. At any rate, when you walk in, it feels like you're stepping into a rustic cabin/home away from home as there's wood furniture/farmstyle. The wall closest to our table was filled w/ interesting books (and game boards I believe, fun!) and the service was exactly what I expect when I go out. We had a couple glasses of wine and ordered a prosciutto/arugula medley, mac & cheese tartelettes with black truffle, mushroom truffle risotto puffs...everything was divine!! As far as the mac & cheese goes...the only people making game changer mac & cheese are: A) my mom, B) 5 & Diamond in Harlem, and now, C) Jadis via their tartelettes...SO GOOD! Went for a birthday gathering and it was really fun. The wine list was eclectic enough for most tastes and was priced pretty well. We had the charcuterie plate along with bacon wrapped scallops which are hard to go wrong with, it was all good. Not great, but good. But that was fine as the atmosphere was great, the service was great, and the wine was great which is really all you need for a birthday party. We had a large group and the big couched corner was a perfect fit for us. I'll be back...that's for sure. read more

I went to this bar last night based on reviews I read on Yelp. I was NOT disappointed! This place is such a find! Being part of the 30 something crowd I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the selection (both wine and food). Jed took care of me and my entire party. We weren't planning on eating, we just wanted to go somewhere to have some nice French wine. The food looked and smelled so good, we just couldn't resist. I was there early enough in the evening to see they made everything FRESH! And, the prices are so reasonable. This is my new favorite place in the Lower East Side. Thank you, Jadis! read more

I go to Jadis all the time, and it's consistently good. The weekday wine special is amazing -- $4 for a handful of reds and whites -- and the small plates are really good too. I've had the bacon-wrapped scallops, the cheese plate, the empanadas, and a bunch of the small salads. It isn't gourmet fare, the the portions are nice and the prices are fantastic. Yelp's description of a three-star rating is perfect for Jadis- it is A-OK. The wine list is very reasonably priced and relatively diverse. The tiny "kitchen" (read: guys behind the bar) turn out tons of good little plates. Since I was sitting at the bar, though, I did notice that a great deal of their small plates like the mini quiches or crab cakes were just frozen out of a package. I'm sure that they are fine; just don't expect awesome house-made items here. I had, though, the pate, which was nice and peppery. They are really generous with their bread. The service started out great. Someone actually approached us and kept an eye on us to help us find a seat. She wasn't a hostess designated to do just this; I believe she was either a server or a manager. I really appreciated this, because I hate having to vie for a space at the bar with people far bigger than me. However, she forgot about us at some point, and we had to find her to get another glass of wine. All in all, Jadis is a nice option for the neighborhood. read more

I've had two lovely experiences here, before and after some gigs at Rockwood down the street. The first time I stopped in, I ate solo. I loved the friendly staff and especially enjoyed peeking in the books on the shelf next to me. I drank a glass of rosé and loved the chicken salad I got. The second visit, I brought quite a crew with me - about ten of us! I called as we walked over and the woman who answered said they would be happy to accommodate. We were very comfortable in the back area and loved our wine and dinner. The woman on staff I recognized remembered me as well! It was a delight to chat with her on the way out. Jadis is perfect for large groups who want to get together in a more casual and relaxed way. The table we had was bench seating and little stools - clustered around a farmstyle tabletop. It was a good size table, but we could still pretty much talk to anyone in the group without having to yell *almost* (there was a pretty loud party going on in the lounge area which made it a little loud to have an easy conversation) The food is good. Small-plates - delightful nibbly bits. I enjoyed the quiche and the bacon covered scallops. And the cheese and charcuterie platters were decent too. Nothing absolutely-must-have memorable. Except perhaps the mulled wine - I really enjoyed that! A mix of warmed red wine, citrus and Christmas spices (cinnamon,nutmeg, mace, cloves) - that was the perfect antidote to a cold winter's night. Service was so-so - they were busy and it took the server a while to come back to take drinks orders. I would also rate it as pretty good value - we all had more than one glass of wine and shared sufficient small plates so that we had to decline the dessert menu and the check (incl tax and tip) was about $40 each. Cute wine tapas place on the LES. If you can reserve the large table on the right hand side at the back of the restaurant, it's a nice venue to host a party of 10-what we did! I liked the bookcases behind us which made it feel like we were in some artsy fartsy cafe. Had the wine and cheese platters; I'm not much of a snob in either categories so I can't tell you if it was out of this world or not. Also had some arugula salad and mushroom truffle risotto puffs (good!). The first time I went to Jadis was for a friend's Welcome Back party after she had been working a work rotation overseas. We had the entire back area, and the staff was really great about keeping all of our orders straight and dealing with our separate payments. The second time, I went with a friend on a Monday before a dinner event. And of course, we ordered an entire bottle of wine since the special was 30% off all bottles over $30! The food smelled heavenly, so we couldn't help but order a couple of small plates to share. YUM! We had bacon wrapped scallops and the eggplant dip, both of which were really flavorful and a great way to whet our appetites. Someone mentioned the size of the dishes were small...I thought that the size relative to price was actually perfect or even great. All the starters and small plates were under $10 except for the chorizo. The sandwiches, quiches, and salads ranged from $10-13. Platters of 4 charcuterie choices or cheese choices were $20. I thought the prices and sizes of the dishes were more than reasonable, especially for New York. Also went here for meetups with some friends and a date after watching a movie. Overall, a really cute spot with really nice servers who have great recommendations about wines and stay within the price range you mention. The normal non-happy hour prices are very very reasonable, with bottles starting at $25 and glasses at $7 (shocking!!) They could be a tad bit faster with the water, but otherwise, this is definitely a go-to and favorite. read more
