Wow - what a great place! My son has recently gotten into rocks and gems so we found Jae's and went on a weekend morning. I was so impressed by the knowledge of the staff. My son is special needs and they were so caring and patient with him and all of his questions. He did the water trough and afterwards, Melissa sat down with him and patiently walked him through each gem he had. It was so amazing and the customized experience will have us returning for sure! My kids are very into gems and geology. We were looking for a place for them to go gem mining in Nashville and discovered this gem of a place (no pun intended). The owners are so sweet and knowledgeable! My kids found some great stones, gems, and fossils. I found it so interesting as I have never seen amber before! I would recommend this shop for anyone looking to learn about rocks, buy something nice or do something fun with their kids. I took my 3.5 year old on a Friday morning to do the "rock mining". We chose the $20 bucket (smallest) and it was perfect for him. The owner took us to the back room which holds the new indoor mining system. My 3.5 year old was able to scoop the dirt and sift for rocks on his own while the owner gladly entertained his questions. He found at least 15 decent sized rocks in his bucket as well as several smaller pebbles. After sifting, the owner sorted the rocks with my 3.5 year old and told him about each one, he even added a rock for free when he realized he didn't find one in his bucket. The front of the store has stones of all varieties and prices. The owner encouraged my 3.5 year old to touch the rocks and ask as many questions as he wanted. This is Definitely a mom and pop sort of shop so it's not fancy, but it is well worth the trip! read more

The lady was SUPER friendly & VERY knowledgeable. They were great with my daughter, teaching her & letting her play with rocks. Lady didn't care at all about my daughter touching things & actually encouraged it. They had a sweet puppy in the back that was really friendly. Spent less than $15 for 8 crystals. Half were about finger nail size, the other half at least 1"-2" large. The lady labeled each stone with the name of stone AND it's country of origin & bagged separately so you wouldn't confuse them. She said they have events where you can hunt your own gems & they said if you bring in or send pics of any gems you have at home, they'll help you identify them. And she said their suppliers are mom & pop shops from all over the world that they have friendships with & Skype regularly & know their families so they know their gems really are what you're paying for. I am truly BLOWN AWAY - this was hands down, the most AMAZING experience I've ever had at any crystal store anywhere. Meets and EXCEEDS expectations. This place is AMAZING! My boyfriend and I go to as many gem mining places as we can find when we travel and this was by far our best experience yet. They make you feel like family and actually take the time to explain to you what you've found and teach you about the products. They don't try to push you into buying expensive things or anything. They are super great and knowledgeable. We leaned things here that we were able to use on our guided cave tour and actually correct the tour guide. This shop is so fantastic! They have so many wonderful specimens, and were absolutely wonderful about answering the rapid-fire questions of a 5-year-old. This is a family owned business that is just getting going in Music Valley area near Opry mills mall. Really great place to go and see and learn all about rocks and fossils in Tennessee and surrounding areas. Stones and minerals from all over the world can be found here. They have an outdoor sluice under a tent in front of the business but soon to have an indoor sluice set up to mine inside. Great place to bring your family for a learning experience and good clean family time.
