Tonight was a solid disappointment with every employee avoiding eye contact to people at the bar, listening to one employee tell anyone who wanted (or not) to listen about her trip to Mexico and how she hated to come home. Every customer who had anything to say about the heat, this staff member decided to interject about a story she had about her recent trip to Mexico. The entire time doing drive-bys for people at the bar waiting for a drink, but at least she told people she went to Mexico! Order fulfillment: a little tardy. It took more than 20mins to get a burger cooked. Weird. Service was prompt and detailed. Ambience is noisy and loud. Hygiene: there was a persistent fly that keep visiting me while I was waiting. I asked the burger to be cooked medium rare with pink. When it arrived, it was cooked all the way through. Went on a Friday to listen to live music and try their finger steaks. The music was decent, but they were jammed into a corner so not very visible. Ordered the finger steaks, with onion rings. My daughter ordered a hamburger with fries. We waited almost an hour for our food. The onion rings and fries were great. The finger steaks had no flavor other than the dipping sauce. The meat had absolutely no seasoning. I don't believe their batter has any seasoning either. Tried a bite without dipping into the bbq sauce and it was just bland. I want to start by saying that I had desperately wanted to love this place as Jak*s came highly recommended by friends. Everything started off fantastically, with prompt seating and a server that appeared almost immediately after we were seated. The dining room is simple but homey, with heavy wood accents. There are no booths here, just low and high tables. The kitchen is tucked to the left of the bar and appears relatively small. I was fearful of being overwhelmed with cooking smells, but that was not the case. Was slightly disappointed that this was our first visit, which we mentioned to the server, but weren't told about happy hour specials or hours...I overheard the details much later from another server next to us. I probably would have ordered a drink if I had known. I ordered the Zesty chicken sandwich, as I love everything that is in it-kimchi, relish, picked onions, chicken and pepper jack cheese. Hubby ordered the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes, gravy and corn. I will admit it took quite a while for food to come out of the kitchen, but as I was told when we were seated, everything is freshly made to order, so I expected it to take longer than I'm used to. Everything looked absolutely scrumptious when served (hubby dove in before I could take a picture of his meal), which just heightened the anticipation! I eagerly put the fixings on my sandwich to bite into it as soon as I could....but since the kimchi and relish were sitting on my bun instead of the chicken, the juices soaked into the bun and it instantly broke into pieces once I put it on top to make a burger. The chicken was just a tad overcooked and very thin, so it almost felt like an afterthought. The pepper jack cheese was lost as the relish, kimchi and pickled onions were constantly duking it out to see which flavor would overpower the other. I had to finally just pull off the kimchi and some of the relish to enjoy the pieces of burger I had left. Most of the saturated bun was also left behind. The fries were nicely battered and brilliantly crispy without being overcooked. I thoroughly enjoyed the fries, especially dipped in the lovely ranch dressing that accompanied my meal. Hubby liked his chicken fried chicken but was disappointed in the gravy as it was sweet, instead of peppery. He wasn't the biggest fan of the batter either as it seemed a tad undercooked. Drink refills were frequent and our server was very attentive, so an extra star for that alone. I might try again but try a basic burger, fish & chips or onion rings as those meals seem to have the best reviews. Cool idea, but disappointing. Service was super slow. We tried this place because we were in the area. 6pm on a Thursday, not super busy still had open tables. It took over 25 minutes to get a drink once we sat down and that is only because a different server saw we were sitting there for a while and realized we hadn't been served yet. Food sounded great on the menu. I ordered the tri tip sandwich. Very little meat, mostly bread and food wasn't hot. Food took forever. Wife had the chicken fried chicken. She made the better choice. People who came after us were served before us. In total we were there almost 2 hours and about $90. Not a repeat. read more

If I could give this little joint ten stars I would. It has it all. Awesome selection of brews on tap, epic service and absolutely delicious food. Obviously a local favorite. It's packed. Live music that is top tier. And let's talk food. I ordered something simple, fingers steaks. Incredible, made from tenderloin and dipped in house made beer batter. Hands down, the best I've ever had. French fries are ranch seasoned and perfectly crispy. My daughter had a steak and said it was amazing. I love, love, love the local vibe. Jak's Place is a little hidden gem here in Nampa! What went right at our gathering yesterday? Let me tell you!! Customer service was beyond over the top! I was trying to put an event together for our Red Hat group for the month of March. Since the date for the event fell on St. Patty' Day, of course we would go somewhere that served corned beef and cabbage! I had heard that Jak's served a mean corned beef, so I stopped in to inquire about hosting our group of 12 for lunch at 11:30; they were happy to put us on their calendar. I received an email confirmation which included their lunch menu. I was a bit concerned as there was no mention of the corned beef on the menu, so when I called to confirm I was assured that they would indeed have it for lunch that day . During the course of our luncheon I was told by the manager, Liz, that Jak's was originally offering the corned beef only as a dinner option, but since our group had specifically requested it for lunch, they added it to their menu, just for us!! How over the top is THAT?? When we arrived the atmosphere was inviting, the restaurant was decked out with lots of St. Patty's Day greenery, and there was Irish music playing on the sound system. Our table was set up and prepared for our group; our friendly and efficient waitress was ready and waiting for our shenanigans! The portion of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes, and carrots was generous; I ended up taking quite a bit home for the hubby, which he was more than happy to finish off for his lunch! The meat was well seasoned and pretty tender, which can be tricky as sometimes the cut of the meat can make it a bit tough. There was a nice selection of various specialty adult beverages to round out the offerings, but as I personally don't imbibe I cannot give a review for those. The poor service started as soon as we entered the door. Only one couple ahead of us and no one to seat us. Once we ordered it was a good 30-35 minutes before our food arrived. We had to ask for more water. My food was great but my friend's turkey cranberry salad was horrible. The turkey was not cooked all the way, at least the turkey she got. First time trying food from Jak*s Place.. my fiancé and I had made plans to have a lunch date at another restaurant in Nampa and also go to the movies today but our day didn't exactly go according to plan. He has been feeling sick for about a week and we thought he was getting better and that we'd be able to go out finally but he woke up this morning feeling like absolute crap :( While we decided not to go out to eat because of that, he did still want us have lunch but have it delivered or picked up. We thought about our options that are open on Sundays and we almost went a very different route for lunch but I remembered driving by this place and I looked it up to see if they were open today and they were!! I let him know that I really wanted to try food from Jak*s place and that I'd put in the online order and go pick it up after I was done with my dance class at the gym and he agreed to it. For myself I ordered the turkey cranberry feta salad with a maple balsalmic vinaigrette and a half veggie sandwich on 19 grain bread with cream cheese and cilantro lime aoli added. He decided on the BLTA no ranch, substitute mayo and a side of chili cheese fries. I arrived a few minutes after the time I put in for the pickup order and it wasn't quite ready yet as the restaurant was pretty busy but I'd say approx 5-8 min later it was done and handed to me. We ate as soon as I got home and OMG, I know we just ordered sandwiches, salad and fries -nothing too fancy and kind of standard for lunch time fare-but we were blown away by how good everything actually tasted! The reviews are pretty mixed on here but some people aren't giving quite enough credit to them where credit is due because the food is VERY good. Not only would I absolutely get lunch here again, if the chef is reading this I just want to say... You're a wizard Harry!! Seriously, all our food tasted absolutely fresh and delicious. What's more is that both the sandwich and salad I got have red peppers and while I know alot of people enjoy red bell peppers, that's my least favorite of the bell peppers but they tasted absolutely divine in these menu items and I ate them all up ! Decor is pretty good, industrial style as many new places are these days. This just means it is fairly noisy, as there is nothing to absorb any sound. There is an outdoor patio for warmer temps. They have high and regular tables. There are plenty of beers, wines and cocktails on the menu. The service was good. I had been here before and walked right out as people were leaving from having to wait too long for a server to even come to the tables. The squeeze and I split the Reuben samminch. We upped it with onion rings for an extra $2. They did not charge for separate plates which was nice. There was plenty of meat in there, along with sauerkraut and dressing. A very good Reuben and it was more than adequate splitting one, as the bread slices are large. We also got a petite salad each. The jalapeño cream cheese cilantro-lime aioli dressing was great and had a little bite to it. All in all a decent meal. read more

We live in Star and love coming here for the Onion Rings and the Zucchini Fries. The staff is wonderful and pleasant. It's a bar and grill and if you were looking for at it from the outside you would never know it's a great place to eat. Sometimes there can be a wait, but be patient as it's worth it. I would say to sprinkle some Parmesan cheese a top the zucchini fries and BAM it's a winner winner, not that it's not already. Just that little special touch to the zucchini. read more

We decided to give Jak's in Nampa another try tonight and honestly, it just confirmed our first experience. They're listed as closing at 9pm, so we drove over and arrived at 8:45pm--only to find the place already completely shut down. No lights, no employees, no explanation. If your hours say you're open until 9, customers should be able to rely on that. This isn't the first time we've been disappointed here. On our previous visit, the food was underwhelming and the service was extremely slow. We waited far too long just to get our waitress's attention, and the whole experience felt like the staff just didn't care. Between inconsistent hours, mediocre food, and poor customer service, we won't be coming back. I hope the management takes customer experience more seriously because right now it's just not worth it. read more

It was around 1pm in the afternoon when we walked in the place was dead, quiet, and the TVs were off... The guy was friendly and approachable, but it took a few minutes just to get a drink. I asked him if I could work out the control for him, The food was outstanding as usual ... this place always seems to be shortstaffed not sure what it is with a turnaround rate... We have tried this place more than 4 times to give it a fair shot before calling it quits . None of our times were even average . This last time we went in the we got seated and the waitress didn't stop to introduce herself or take our order ... it wasn't even that busy. Our most recent visit to Jak's was a fun little adventure! We were promptly seated and discovered we had arrived just in time for happy hour. We dove into their cocktail menu. The Cinnamon Maple Whiskey Sour, Ginger Peach Mule, and Pineapple Jalapeño Margarita really hit the spot and each had a perfect blend of flavors. As for the menu, the zucchini fries and crispy onion rings were a great start. The crispy chicken sandwich really impressed us and had a perfect balance of crunch and tenderness. The fries, seasoned to perfection, and the cilantro dipping sauce added an extra layer of zest. No service issues here - the ambiance struck the right chord, a blend of laid-back charm and vibrant energy. The live music added to the great atmosphere. It also helped that the BSU game was playing in the background and the boys came out with a victory. Just an overall chill place to hang out and enjoy some food. Perhaps we came in with low expectations or during a perfect time, but our experience was quite pleasant and would recommend if you're out and about in Nampa late at night! read more

We live around the corner from Jak's and finally decided to give it a try... loved it and went back 2 days later to eat again and it was just as good. Hubby & Son really liked the Jak's western burger and I had the tri tip steak salad both times and loved it! If you like salads... this place has more options than most other restaurants. This is an independent, family owned restaurant that does cook-to-order and mainly carries gastropub fare: burgers, sandwiches, drinks, microbrews, and a limited menu of dinner entrees. Unlike most gastropubs, the portions are fairly generous. They focus on some quality ingredients, like locally sourced Wagyu beef burgers and sushi grade salmon. The atmosphere is utilitarian and spare, but overall looks like answer to the question "what if a bunch of Scandinavian designers opened a sports bar." In short, it's an Idaho approach to upscale, real good but not pretentious. This place also has a wide variety of Vegan and Vegetarian options, which is almost unheard of in Idaho, so kudos to them for that. Those folks like to eat out too. The wait staff are friendly and that they do one thing well that I notice a lot of restaurants around here have issues with, which is getting that right balance between attentive and disruptive; always there just when you need them. The venue has a variety of live music and community events, which we always like to see. I'd love to rate them better, but the one thing that kills me about this restaurant is that either their smoke hoods are broken or something about their HVAC system, but this restaurant's air quality is bad. Not only is the air visibly smoky, but it also has a harsh, acrid odor. They've gone to some lengths here to handle the COVID and post-COVID health and safety issues responsibly, so it's kind of disappointing they forgot one of the main ones, which is air circulation. I'd usually just provide this informationally, and don't work it in the rating, but the air quality in this place is the worst I've seen (see photo). Given I have some respiratory issues, I'll be back to give them five stars after they get those hoods fixed. read more

This place was ok. The "crispy" chicken sandwich wasn't crispy. It was just there. The sandwich is too big to even eat properly. I had to take the too bun off and use a knife and fork. Not much flavor to the chicken. I don't know if they used seasoning or even a sauce on it. The fries were ok. Not salty enough. Just warm. Very slight crunch. I got the cilantro dipping sauce. If you want more than one, you have to pay I think $.25 or so. They had a lot of choices. Maybe other stuff on their menu is good, but I don't know if it's worth checking out again. read more

I've always appreciated this place for great service and the amazing finger steaks. Tonight was a disappointing experience though. My husband ordered their pork chop and it took one HOUR to get our meal (4 in our party) and they blamed it on the pork chop after a 45 min wait. If a staple item on your menu takes that long, inform your guests and don't leave them guessing. When we finally got the food they forgot a salad, mixed up dressings, and forgot to split the check as we requested. The ultimate bummer was that the pork chop was Luke warm...not hot (fresh). Take it off the menu if you can't serve it at the quality and timeliness expected. You could have turned our table 3 times in the 2 hours we were there. read more

Food wasn't bad, but it wasn't remarkable either. *Fries were great, crispy with good flavor. 8/10 *When it comes to the filet mignon fingers, not so great. The steak itself had zero flavor at all. The beer batter carried in the flavor aspect. Also the sauce they offer with the steak bites is basically ketchup so I wouldn't recommend unless you like ketchup with your steak.
