Located within the Loews Royal Pacific Resort, this restaurant bar does it all. Their name pays homage to the fabled South Seas explorer, Jake McNally, whose seaplane floats in the lagoon nearby. Adventure explorer themes are found throughout the restaurant with their menu items to match. It's located on the ground floor of the resort with the pool nearby. Reservations are not required and there's plenty of seating with live entertainment on select nights. Their menu covers a wide variety including such items as pretzels, wings, fried green tomatoes, crawfish chowder, chicken noodle soup, salads, short rib burger, cheeseburgers, caesar wrap, mahi burger, and flatbread. Some of their desserts include smores, key lime pie and creme brulee. Flatbread: Like a large pizza. Lots of mozzarella, pepperoni, ham and sausage. All fresh. Yom Yom Yom Roasted Vegetable Mezza Platter: Assorted roasted veggies, pita chips, falafel, a little cucumber salad and big heaping scoop of roasted garlic hummus and a cup of tzatziki. Presentation was beautiful. Tasted even better. Yom Yom Yom Loews Classic Double Patty Burger: Griddled double patty, pickles, with cognac peppercorn sauce topped with american cheese. The burger was simple but delicious. I really wanted some crunch so I asked and our waiter me a small piece of lettuce. The fries were perfect but I wanted some ketchup so what did they bring me? These cute little sealed glass jars of Heinz tomato ketchup (see pic). Beer battered fish and chips: Beautifully battered and sealed in freshness, the fish was delicious. It was served with a mayo based slaw that was equally fulfilling. Oh and the fries were also good. Heirloom & Burrata Salad: A bed of spring mix and white balsamic dressing, a piece of prosciutto ham, a large dollop of burrata cheese with large cut pieces of orange Florida heirloom tomatoes. This contrast of flavors from the cheese to the prosciutto to the balsamic dressing is noticeable. Yom Yom Yom. Loews Classic Chicken Noodle Soup: Made with bone broth, artisan pasta and pulled chicken. This was a classic elevated. Yom Yom Yom I expected more from a resort hotel restaurant especially one that was on the grounds of Universal Resort Orlando and I wasn't disappointed. Of course prices will be also be elevated, but then again what did you expect if you're on the ground of Universal. Great food! The theme and the multiple slow moving fans almost transport you to the south seas. Is very relaxing and calming anyway. Had the pretzel rods I had read in many other reviews- they were great! I had the crawfish chowder - was very good. Hubby and son had the buffalo chicken wrap, one with fries, one with fruit. Not too bad for bar food, service was solid and that's the main redeeming factor. My wife got the fish and chips, my kiddo got the burger, and I got the Asian wings with a key lime pie. I'd probably try the buffalo and see how they fared. I'd say the best thing we tried was the burger. Nothing else was notable. The convenience of eating here was the deciding factor. If you're not looking for convenience then hop on a 5 minute water ride to the city walk and get some amazing cuisine for similar pricing. read more

Jake's is a great choice for hotel eating. The vibe is tropical adjacent, but just seems to miss the vibe. The food didn't miss anything though. The ribs were falling the bone tender and the sauce had a sweetness that accentuates without overpowering. The Mac and cheese was creamy and a good complement the the rest of the meal. The coleslaw is one of the better restaurant coleslaws I've enjoyed. Normally to get a slaw this good it needs to be at a BBQ shack in the south where they've cooked the same way for three generations. read more

We ordered to-go on a rainy night. The food was delicious and the staff at the bar, where I waited for my order, were so kind and so on top of what was clearly a busier night than average as the poolside outdoor restaurant closed for lightening. The wait was long (originally said 20, waited closer to 45-50, but honestly after a long park day some alone mom time with a beer and my book wasn't bad!) and the kitchen left out things like dressings for sales and utensils, but no big crisis. After a long day dragging my butt around the Universal parks with the wife and kids this was the oasis in the desert I needed to sneak off to for a couple beers. The bartender was very friendly and fairly liberal with the pours. He offered park advice and kept me company while the wife snuck off to the smoke pit. This hotel restaurant is in the Lowes Royal Pacific Hotel in Universal Studios. I dined here alone. I ordered their hamburger, which was made of beef brisket. I did not notice any difference in taste, but it was good. The motif was a version of an American bar in Paradise. I liked the decor. I would definitely come here just for the service. While we loved our stay at the resort, Jake's Bar really fell short especially in service. We waited over 15 minutes to be acknowledged at our table and over 25 to even get water. There was about 4-5 table in the entire restaurant so it was not busy at all. We started with Buffalo wings (which were amazing) and Caesar salad. Beware if you don't like horseradish because there is ALOT in the Caesar dressing it is so overpowering. The Brisket for 2 is a great deal and was delicious. We had heard mixed reviews from most of the restaurants at the resort but by far Jake's seemed like the most likely to come through. We tried the pretzel rods to start, while my husband had the Aviator meal (which was HUGE) while I had the goat cheese flatbread. The starter was fantastic but I will say my husband probably enjoyed his meal more than I did. For a goat cheese flatbread my meal seemed to be lacking a serious amount of goat cheese. We likely wouldn't return here again when there are so many great options just minutes away at the city walk. read more

Love this place. The Royal pacific is a great hotel and this is a great restaurant to accompany it. Best thing on the menu are the pretzels. Easily the best I have ever had. The staff were friendly however it did take awhile for the entrees to come out even though there were only 3-4 other tables filled. We attended the Beer Dinner on June 2, the first time. Menu was really well paired with the Crooked Can Brewing beers. The Server Team was on top of each course, clearing and delivering the next drink and plate. Seating was preassigned based on party size, but overall, it was an enjoyable evening. The ticket price included gratuity & valet parking. The culinary team & Brewster came out to introduce each course, and even with a microphone, it was hard to hear some of the description, but a printed menu was at each setting to reference. On the ground floor of the resort, this is a great spot for your typical American favorites. It's a large space with a great bar, really great staff, and delicious food. I ordered the shepherds pie and was a little surprised at the size when they brought it out. It looked kind of small, but it ended up being the perfect size for me (I'm a small person so it might be a less than average portion size). As yummy as the food was, it was pretty expensive. Compared to the sushi spot up on the lobby level, this is more expensive for less fancy food. I would definitely still give this place a visit next time I'm in town though! read more

Fun fact, there are outside tables, so if you want to be a bit out of the hustle and bustle of the main dining room, request an outside table. The burger was fine, but the truffle fries! So good! I wasn't able to get a picture but, my husband had the pizza which was fine. My son had the tomato soup and grilled cheese. Delicious! We waited for nearly 30 minutes before being seated. Upon sitting at our table, no one greeted us for over 10 Minutes until we went up to the hostess stand to inquire. My 7 year old son ordered the "alphabet soup" off of the kids menu ($12). The soup was tomato soup with cavatappi pasta. I also ordered the tomato soup with grilled cheese ($8) and it was the same as the kids soup just without the pasta. This restaurant has an identity crisis. There's a crashed plane outside that (if I remember correctly) Jake flew and he decided to start this restaurant. I was expecting the atmosphere to have some sort of explorer theme, but instead we were greeted with a bland generic atmosphere that was exactly the same as the restaurant across the way (Islands Dining Room). She asked if I'd like a shot brought out to add to my drink. I asked her if it wound incur a specific charge which she said yes, $10 for a shot or $3 to make it a double, so I told her to take it back and make it a double instead. They didn't make a double however, just poured some out of the glass and added a shot. The Bloody Mary was very underwhelming. Ordered a sandwich with a salad. Wrong dressing was on the plate but didn't know until I put it on the salad. Waitress never came by to ask how lunch was - she was busy solving world problems with the hostess. By the time she came by. We were finished and despite her offering to have another salad made she seemed to not understand that we were finished. I guess other people accept this kind of service. I do not. There's plenty of other options available at universal that exceed what this place does. My wife had wanted to come here as it was promoted as an aviation themed place. Popped in with some friends during our staycation weekend to have a few drinks and a few bites to eat. They were able to get us seated really quickly which was great since there were 7 of us! We also loved our martinis - they were perfectly dirty. The experience was pretty much what you expect from a theme park resort hotel dining experience. Everything was just a little bit lackluster, but not terrible. The only thing we had issue with was we ordered the shrimp mac n cheese and there was not an ounce of cheese in it! It was basically just shrimp pasta. That being said, I highly enjoyed the truffle fries and definitely recommend!
