After an extended day of exploring Adventure Island, we decided to dine at Bigfire in City Walk. The menu selections were enticing, and despite our limited appetite due to the heat, we ordered a Short Rib Flatbread and a Red & Gold beet salad. Both dishes were expertly prepared and served by Neici, our server. The restaurant itself exudes a fine dining atmosphere, which is a pleasant surprise for amusement park fare. Neici guided our attention to the open window overlooking the protein preparation area, which provided an interesting spectacle of chefs and kitchen staff at work. Our dining experience would have been exceptional had it not been for the initial seating arrangement by front desk staff. Although we were the second party in line for the opening at 4 pm, we were directed to an adjacent window dining area where a large portable fan noisily circulated air onto our assigned table. The logic behind seating an early guest at this table is unclear, as the main dining area and the adjacent dining area remained unoccupied. The front-end staff's decision resulted in the loss of the restaurant's 5-star rating, not our server or the food. Our server, Neici, was exceptionally knowledgeable and pleasant, encouraging our return. She even recommended returning to City Walk after 6 pm for complimentary parking and enjoying the restaurant and parks' evening hours. We would welcome her service on a future visit. read more

Couldn't resist stopping in for dinner on our way out of Universal Studios. You could smell the food on the grill from outside and that drew me in. The restaurant is very nice and depending on where you sit, you can still see everyone walking by outside and enjoying themselves. It also has plenty of seating. We were seated immediately and our waitress came over right away to take our drink orders. It was a super HOT day so the iced water was amazing. The waitress explained the wood used on the grill, which tempted me to shift to the lamb chops. I asked for them to be cooked to temperature and they came out perfectly cooked, still moist and delicious. All of the meat is only seasoned with salt and pepper, which is appreciated for those who enjoy the flavor the grill gives. The mashed potatoes and the mushroom risotto was were also delicious. Once you see my pics, you'll know I wasn't kidding around. I will definitely revisit this place when I return to Orlando. read more

Decided to eat here while visiting Universal Studios because you can smell the food cooking over the wood as you walk by. The restaurant is nice and has an upscale look. The staff was extremely friendly and explained how the food is cooked, seasoned, and what type of wood is used. I ordered the Beer Can Chicken with roasted potatoes, mac n cheese, and cornbread. The cornbread tasted sweet and cake like. The chicken was tender, juicy, and the BBQ sauce was homemade for sure. It was so good. The mac n cheese could have used a bit more seasoning. This place was solid. nothing outstanding, nothing out of order, just a strong entry into the upscale burger and steak category with bit of a flare. Ate here with my wife and a friend and we shared a Burger, the cheese fondue and some flat bread. Nothing was special, but everything held up to a good standard. The flat bread was a bit bland, and the cheese was a bit clumpy, but the ingredients all seems fresh and the portions sizes were good. The prices are city walk prices so know going in that there's nothing cheap on the menu. The place was spacious though and the service was good which puts it above several other places in the area. A $26 (and fries, which wasn't listed in the menu. I mean, it was a good burger. Maybe I'm just getting too old, but I don't know how anyone affords meals in the Universal City Walk. Finding a decent and affordable sitdown restaurant in a touristy destination like City Walk is like winning the lottory! So glad that my friends and I randomly decided to eat here. Looking around at other people's plates, the food looked super good and filling. I just went with the burger and was pleased. I believe our server's name was Angel, and she was wonderful. And the ambiance was that of a casual steak house and was great for people watching. I was pleasantly surprised by our dinner here! I was expecting a tourist trap based on the location, but it was wonderful. Our server Patrick was awesome, personable, helpful, and attentive. We were seated right on time (with a reservation), at a nice window view of the crowd and lake. The kids menu includes a drink and side, and my son loved the sliders. They were also very accommodating to gluten free diners. The skillet roasted mussels appetizer (smoked salt, lemon butter, with gf bread sub) was delicious and unique. Same with the wood charred Brussels sprouts (tajin, almond dip, shishito peppers on side), interesting mix of flavors that blended great together. The steak with roasted marble potatoes was awesome, with a distinct wood smoke taste in the edges of steak. Everything was super delicious, we never stopped and thought "where is our food", and Rebekah checked on us multiple times throughout the meal. For the main dish we had the vegan steak and the salmon. The vegan steak is to die for. It's sooo yummy, and doesn't feel like you are eating veggies at all. The salmon wasn't anything special, but it was still good enough that we ate it all! The sauce they put it in was very good. We had the s'mores for dessert which was such a fun experience. And we ordered two more spritz's. Even after our check was paid we didn't feel rushed at all, and we got to finish our drinks in peace. The place itself was super cute. We sat in an area looking outside which was nice. It didn't feel super crowded or packed together. I didn't see any booths which was fine, but we usually prefer a booth over normal seating. The food was all delicious, our server was hands down the best server I've had at universal, and overall the experience was such a good way to end our day! Recommended by a friend, I made a reservation at Bigfire during a recent trip to Universal for a conference. Unfortunately, this ended up being a one-and-done experience for me. Like many of the restaurants at CityWalk, it just didn't deliver. We started with the fondue appetizer, which was good overall, but still a little lacking in flavor. Decent, but nothing memorable. I also ordered the corn bisque to start, and that was a definite miss. The popcorn was odd and completely unnecessary, and the soup itself was bland almost reminiscent of baby food. Terribly under-seasoned. For my main course, I chose the bone-in short rib. The portion was shockingly small for the price less than the size of a deck of cards. The meat was tender and could have been flavorful, but the cold, unpleasant BBQ sauce on top completely ruined it. It was served with an ear of corn that was shriveled, overcooked, and cold, along with a piece of jalapeño cornbread so hard you couldn't even cut it with a steak knife. Bigfire is unique in that they enhance their flavor by using live fire and two types of wood for the taste of the meat. The bone in short rib was Carolina barbecue style served with grilled corn on the cob, vine tomatoes, cipollini onions, spicy maple glazed jalapeño and cornbread. It actually melted in our mouths and was falling apart with each move of our fork. The ribeye came with asparagus and chimichurri sauce on top. The meats were so incredibly tasty. I went with the Steak Knife Burger - 1/2lb. black Angus beer, honey pepper bacon, smoked pimento cheese, bib lettuce, tomato, signature brioche bun. The burger was juicy and that honey pepper bacon was the perfect combination. The bun was not too overwhelming. The french fries served with the burger not your typical shoestring, pretty big. And very salty. The service was really good, I asked to be moved as a single diner. I was placed in a heavy traffic area. Luckily, I was moved to the second floor, which I suggest for anybody looking for a nice area to dine in this restaurant. They come back and said that they are not going to be carrying the item anymore, which seemed a little crazy to me as it is supposed to be in rotation for another month, but things happen. What really got me is that according to the host I never asked any questions about it. Said that we never discussed it, I never asked about it, and he doesn't know what I am talking about. This was less then 5 minutes after we had the conversation as I ended up not ordering and leaving. Although I was a little annoyed with the item not being there (things happen), I was more annoyed at the insistence that they had the brisket just to get me in the door, and then insisting that the conversation never happened. We had a concert to attend that evening and decided to check out Bigfire. My advice is to make a reservation ahead of time because it does get busy. One of the nicer restaurants in Universal Orlando's Citywalk. Bigfire is very proud of their grill especially their steaks. And for good reason. It's quite well known on the Citywalk at Universal. It has a large presence with seating upstairs with a view that overlooks Citywalk I was told. The view of the fireworks is a plus I was told. I did not get a chance to go upstairs. Maybe next time. The decor is very contemporary with dark walls and curtains but warm comfortable lighting. Our 6 top was seated immediately on relatively busy Monday night. Our server Christina was very knowledgeable and answered any questions. She took our drink orders and returned with a huge loaf of their artisan sourdough bread. It came with some of their herbed butter and peach jam. Yom Yom Yom. I tried their Blackberry Breeze mocktail. Fresh blackberries in ginger beer and spiced blackberry with more crystallized ginger... wow. I really loved this drink! Yom Yom Yom Yom! We tried the Fondue app with braised pork. The dish arrived in a large round wooden bowl with segregated compartments. In the middle was the large warm bourbon cheese fondue topped with the braised pork. In the compartments around it were the grilled asparagus, roasted marble potatoes, shishito pepper and carrots. I kid you not when I say everything just disappeared in about 2 minutes! You can tell that this was not her first night because Christina left the fondue skillet for use to dip our sourdough bread in. Yom Yom Yom Yom! Pulled Boar Sandwich: Being used to Alabama BBQ, this sandwich was a little underwhelming. BBQ can be very finicky to some and Rachel just wasn't feeling it tonight. Sam tried the Grilled Chicken Sandwich. Crispy jalapenos, honey glaze, pepper bacon, arugula on a brioche bun that was charred with the name of the restaurant... a nice touch. It must've been good because he finished it. Tammy sampled the Shrimp & Smoked Cheddar Grits. The grits were a little thicker than what I prefer but it still had great flavor. It's probably thicker because it had more cheddar in it. The crispy pieces of kale underneath added a nice contrasting flavor. The shrimp were seasoned beautifully and tasted so good. Yom Yom Yom. Jeff and Christi got the steak. Specifically the filet and the boneless ribeye. The presentation was spot on and the cook on them was as ordered. I didn't hear any complaints from either especially Jeff who had been craving a steak. Their side of au gratin potatoes was also spot on. I ordered the Brook Trout. Instead of the salad, I replaced with asparagus. It was so good from our app that I had to have more. The roasted marbled potatoes were spot on. But the hero of the meal, the trout... yom yom yom yom. My almost whole trout with tail still attached (minus the head) looked like it was butterflied with the fish intact and grilled. Each side was rather "thin" and I was amazed at how the trout was not over cooked and dry. Nicely done, Bigfire! The mussels are so good we get two orders. Their kids meals are fantastic and generously sized. Be aware the lids on the kids cups don't fit perfectly. Proceed with caution. The fondue is an absolute must and if you ask nicely they may bring you extra shishito peppers. Autumn was our server and she was so attentive and kind even when we dropped all our apple juice. BigFire is Universal Citywalk's steakhouse. Place is smack dab in the center of it, so you can't miss it. Their shtick is grilling steaks over wood, which is never a bad thing. Got seated upstairs as we were a larger group. Service was perfectly fine. Otherwise the place looks very average modern-like, aside from the grilling pit itself which is cool. Got the smoked old fashioned which was the strangest preparation I've had. It was not smoked tableside, and instead the waiter came to simply pour it tableside which was absolutely pointless. What I got was overly sugary, small, and with a tiny ass ice cube that watered it down immediately. Truly bizarre. We got the bourbon cheese fondue for an appetizer which was utterly forgettable. The cheese had minimal flavor including the mentioned bourbon. It was basically just about the sides, including the grilled bread, potatoes and shishito peppers which were good by themselves. Also really hard to share with a large table, so no clue why this was suggested to us. Personally I preferred the bread we got instead. I ordered the boneless ribeye and what I got was fine. Not the best but quality of cut of meat, however I'm really glad I listened to the reviews and ordered the 'red chimichurri' on the side. No clue why they thought rebranding unflavorful pepper butter was a good idea versus I just steak sauce, or God forbid, regular chimichurri; if anything this I would've removed any hint of smoke from the wood, which was minimal anyway. Potato au gratin were drowning in cheese and not too edible, while the asparagus was good enough even if it was way oversized. We skipped dessert as I don't think anyone around the table was blown away. I know my son's chicken tenders looked nasty as hell. Disney Springs kicks the ever living shit out of City Walk if this is the best they have. Such a miss not having better options right outside the parks. We ate at Big Fire Grill to celebrate my son's 6th birthday. We arrived on a Thursday evening around 5:00 PM with a party of eight. We ordered multiple appetizers, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, and entrées. One thing that stood out immediately was that we were never offered refills on any of our non-alcoholic drinks throughout the meal, while alcoholic beverages were promptly attended to. As for the food, there were some highlights. The ribeye steak and bone marrow were delicious. However, if you are sensitive to salt, the bone marrow may not be for you. The mussels were also very good. On the other hand, I was not impressed with the ribeye flatbread, as there was very little ribeye flavor. The fondue and Brussels sprouts were completely forgettable, and the trout entrée featured the thinnest piece of fish I have ever been served at a restaurant. Throughout the meal, our server never checked on how we were enjoying our entrées. The biggest disappointment, however, was the atmosphere and service. During our meal, a manager approached our table and told us we were being too noisy. We always strive to be respectful of other guests, but this was surprising and disappointing to hear at a family-oriented restaurant located within a theme park. Our children were seated, interacting with family members, and excitedly participating in conversations. They were not running around, out of their seats, or screaming. We dined at several other restaurants during our trip and never experienced anything similar. We were also celebrating my son's birthday, yet the only acknowledgment he received was a brief "Happy Birthday" when we arrived. Our server never mentioned it, and when our family sang to him at the table, the server did not acknowledge the occasion at all. In all of my years dining out, I have never experienced a birthday celebration being completely overlooked by the waitstaff. Overall, while a few menu items were enjoyable, the service and overall experience left us disappointed. For a tourist restaurant it was good. I live in the greater Orlando area and would not make a reservation here again. It is good for a CityWalk restaurant and if you are visiting and want a steak dinner, I would recommend it. Our server was really good and made some great suggestions. Two of us had the New York strip steak. It was cooked to order and had a good flavor. We also enjoyed those strawberry shortcake and skillet dessert. I was disappointed in the old-fashioned because it did not have a big ice cube. It was served on regular ice. Which does affect the drink. read more
