Best bar deals in NYC! My group was here on Monday for my birthday and the drinks were half off all night. I came here for a work Happy Hour and had a great time. Their deals are actually pretty unbeatable-- they have 1/2 off the bar every day until 7pm which is honestly a steal. Coincidentally, the day we were there they also had $2 mugs after 7pm which meant you could have a mug filled with anything on tap for just $2 (they had some beer and cider). There is surprisingly a lot of room for a NYC bar and the ambiance feels very young, lively, and casual. They had trivia that night which was also very fun and made me want to come here more often. They drink selection is decent, and they also have some food which some of my coworkers tried and they liked-- especially their chicken tenders. Overall, I thought this was a great place to host a work happy hour! The bar does get very busy after a certain time, even on a weekday, so it might be hard to find seating for a large party after 7pm, so I would try to get there earlier if possible. Came here for a happy hour work outing around 3pm on a Monday and it was pretty empty which makes sense but I felt that I enjoyed it because it wasn't as crowded or loud. I enjoyed the drinks here and the servers were very kind and they smile a lot too. We got the appetizer sample platter, Mac and cheese bites and chicken tenders. I came here for a private event so I didn't get to try the spot's food offerings as our party had outside food but I did get a bunch of drinks at the bar in the private area. The bartender was efficient and friendly despite having to man an open bar alone with at least 20 people in attendance. We were looking for something close to The Beacon Theater and we stumbled upon this great awesome gem. Jake's Dilemma was slow when we got there but I will say within 20 minutes it picked up and we placed our order and all came out great. We always love this neighborhood spot. Glad to have it a block away from its sister spot, the Gin Mill. This a pretty standard bar with lots on tap. The food is tasty (and made at Gin Mill and then brought down the block). We like going here because of their happy hour ($5 pints). Reason For Coming: I came to this establishment as a guest at a birthday party. -------------------------------------------------- Pros : (Space, Options, Decent Seating, Exclusive Private Room) The establishment provides a private room for private events (I paid $80 to intend it; You should ask the actual store owner for more details [I had a party of 12-15), which was nice to see since I would not expect most bars to have such sections within their place. They provided us with food and an open bar (and the open bar was open). They were allowing us to choose which drinks we wanted. The only downside for this is the time limit they set for these events, which was 3 hours. After the 3 hours, they send you back upstairs to enjoy the open music with the rest of the folks there. On the main floor, there are two sections from which to grab drinks--making getting yourself a drink conventional and not a hassle. Regarding the seating arrangement, they have more than a moderate enough seats for people there. Out of all the sports bars I've ever been to, this one was the most decent in arrangements. ---------------------------------------------------- I wouldn't mind coming to this bar and grabbing 1-2 drinks on a casual off day but just going there for night outings. In my heart, this is a five-star place. I've been coming here since before I had a smartphone, so Google can't even tell me. But it's been probably 15 years. The prices have gone up some, but that's to be expected. They still have the cheapest beers and drinks on the UWS, and the food isn't bad either. We came for drinks late at night and there was a live DJ. Place was definitely popping. I would only come here for drinks. Don't bother getting the food. I came here for happy hour with classmates. As we were descending into the hard life of a medical student, we intended to make it a night to remember. This place was picked as our happy hour congregation. The bar is decently sized, with plenty of room in the bar area up front, as well as toward the back (which has beer pong tables). There is also a reception room downstairs open to rent, but we didn't rent it this time around. The bar is clean, and got a good amount of foot traffic while we were there. The prices for the drinks were decent, and the drinks came out strong. The staff was friendly, as were the locals here. I had some nice conversations with non-classmates as well. I've come here a number of times when I was way younger. As well as the Gin Mill. I still have no idea what the difference is other than typically picking the bar with less people in it. A number of months ago came in after trying to find a place to watch football on the upper west side that wasn't outrageously expensive. It was a win. Got a table and tvs in the back room. Came back again recently for happy hour with a friend and as usual a solid win. Except for the woo girls. You know what I'm talking about. When you see a gaggle of girls and everyone is like "scream if you rose all day! WOOOOO!" Somehow that ended up here. I'm mostly here for the $3.75 craft beer (half off the entire bar) until 8pm. Jake's Dilemma/The Gin Mill have the best buffalo wings in the UWS. They are so crispy and perfectly coated in sauce. The sweet potato tater tots are also delicious! The fried pickles and sliders are good. Jake's actually doesn't have a kitchen, so they walk the food over from Gin Mill. Good to know in case you're just craving the wings and can't find a table at Jake's. This is our favorite neighborhood bar. It is so chill and they have good happy hour specials. This place is your typical NYC pub. So don't set your expectations too high. With that being said, the quality of the food for the happy hour special prices are unbeatable, especially in this pricey-ass city. You can get wings and Mozzarella sticks for super cheap, and well drinks for $4. It can get loud and a little rowdy as there are beer-pong tables in the back. If you don't come at the beginning of happy hour, do not expect to get a seat unless you're lucky. The best thing about this place are the specials so definitely take advantage! Jake's is a hoot. Owned by the same people as Gin Mill up the street, and Stumble Inn on the other side of the park, this bar is every bit as rowdy and debaucherous as its sister establishments. And I don't hate it. We had some time to kill before dinner, so we decided to come here for some mid-day beer pong. There are 3 pong tables in the middle of the bar, and you can rent cups to play with the purchase of a pitcher of beer. Note that you are not allowed to buy mixed drinks at the bar and get cups of water to play. Good thing is pitchers are cheap ($7), so we just bought one to play without really drinking the beer. And when you buy a pitcher, you have the table for as long as you want. Our mixed drinks were weak and the small glasses were mostly ice--LAME. But good music and good energy still make for a good time. If you're looking for a chill place to have a cheap drink, look no further. read more
