A lovely neighborhood bar in the middle of the upper east side. The bartenders are super attentive even when they're busy, the crowd is a little on the older side but it makes sense for the neighborhood that they're in. They also have a lot of TVs and play different games that are on. The only reason that this doesn't get given stars is because their wine tasted old (like the bottle had been open and left in the fridge for a while) but that's also my fault for ordering wine at a neighborhood bar-- I should know better lol. Come for a beer or an actual cocktail that they make fresh and skip the wine!

I've been meaning to write a review about this place for so long, that I'm ashamed that I'm so late with it. Carlow East has become my home away from home (so to speak) since 2020. I had gotten used to socializing at Crimson & Rye, but the pandemic killed the business (as well as my previous lifestyle). It was a different crowd than I had gotten used to, but eventually, it grew on me. My best friend was responsible for my going there and I've had some of the best times of my life at Carlow. I've been inviting family and friends there since 2021. My brother (who used to live on the Upper East Side like I did) comes from his home in Connecticut sometimes to get a drink or four. That's how special that place is. The drinks are reasonably priced, the bartenders are friendly, the owner is cool af, and their hostess is terrific! They're all like family to me. You'll definitely see some old faces there (not that there's anything wrong with that), but people who look like they're still in junior high school visit as well (they card, so don't take what I've said to mean that they let kids drink). It has a diverse crowd and I've been fortunate to have met people from all over the world at Carlow. I have a fascination for different languages and cultures, so this is a boon for me. Just before I wrote this review, I planned to go there tonight, and I invited a young lady to accompany me. One of the shots that I've uploaded here shows me, my best friend, and a gentleman known as Mr. Hayes. He was a regular who died recently. The reason that I mention him is to give you an idea of how good the atmosphere can be. Mr. Hayes was a pool shark. People would look at this old man and think they could beat him at the game. He would pretend to be feeble which made his opponents overconfident. That man racked up more wins than I can remember. LOL But he was family to the young and the old. Family! That's what it feels like every time I set foot in that pub. I don't mean to say that you'll have a good time every time, but that kind of thing is rare. If it does nothing for you the first time, come back and give it another go. I guarantee you'll come to love it. The aesthetics are pretty average and has what I assume most pubs have, but you don't go for the decor, you go for the experience. Bottoms up!

Very clean bar with ice cold beer and great service. We popped in for a quick drink but ended up staying for a few because the atmosphere was so enjoyable.

The service was amazing. They have me my drink and a water with lemon right after. It was a little busy but always made sure I was topped off.

When my BF lived in NYC, this was the premiere location to catch a Seahawks game. So that's exactly what we did while visiting. I liked this place a lot. The bartender was really funny and I appreciated his "Don't like it? GTFO!" attitude. Several beers on tap and a full bar. No food but it's allowed to bring food in, so that's what we did as well. I like the vibe here and I'd recommend this place. Lots of TV's too.

This pub does not have food and the bar tender was as disinterested as could be. Pub was clean and bathroom was suitable. We won't be back.

Amazing staff and plenty of drink options. This is a great stop for a game and ironically a Seahawks bar all the way out in NYC

What are the Happy Hour Specials?

    What food is there?

Food is not served there, but you can bring your own food and eat there if you like. I usually get a slice of pizza from a pizzeria three doors away from Carlow and sit in the pub and have a beer with my slice.

They are still sending out the same amazing classics and have added great specials over the years. The French onion soup is still the most amazing concoction on earth and Cronins could only make it better if they offered it via IV. My mom and I love to share either the turkey or roast beef dinner platters with two soups and still end up with leftovers. The side of turnips is a comfort meal in itself. Potato leek is close second to the french onion. The staff makes the place that much better. The entire place is definitely invested in their patrons and community.. Cuisine: 8 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 7 Value: 8 Overall: 8 Four of us came here because I heard their fish and chips are very good. I am a sucker for this famous British/Irish deep fried goodness. Well, I can say without a doubt that this version is excellent (8.5/10) as described. The dish comes with three pieces that are crispy and tender. However, they gotta make a better tartar sauce than the ones they served in packets. Also, we switched out chips for onion rings. They were fantastic! I also really enjoyed their French Onion Soup (8/10) and the Shepherds Pie (7.5/10). The soup was flavorful without being too salty like most restaurants, while the pie had relatively fluffy mash potato with tasty ground beef mixture. The only item that was a slight letdown was the Chicken Pot Pie (6/10). The puff pastry was decent and so was the cream sauce. The problem was the overcooked and dry chicken breast meat. Our server was very friendly and always had a smile on her face. Btw, even though the space was basically a dive bar, the energetic 60's and 70's music was definitely a plus. Therefore, I gave it a slightly higher score for decor. All in all, this was a great experience.

Despite it being a hot day, the soup wasn't scorching hot so it hit the spot, and the grilled cheese was great. One of us had the spice box, which was flavored wonderfully, and another had the chicken sandwich. We felt bad for the one bartender having to work with so many people during a busy World Cup afternoon, but she did a great job. Food was a bit greasier than we would have liked but all in all, a good spot.

I had a wagon with me because I went to pick up a donation for my dance school. I figured it was perfect to sit outside. I opened the door and two women turned around and looked at me with blank stares. I asked if they were open. They responded yes. I asked if they were serving on the patio. They said, "Yeah, "you can go out there. " (Awkward) I sat outside. I waited at least 10 minutes before one of them came out and yelled from the door as she walked towards me, "Are you going to choose something? " (Even more awkward) I said yes with my back to her waiting for her to walk over to me to take my order. She stands beside me and takes my order then proceeds to tell me that she needs my credit card for the order. She worded it a little strangely. I questioned her reason as I wasn't drinking alcohol. She repeated the same strange reason which for me was code for: WE DON'T TRUST YOU. YOU MIGHT RUN OFF WITHOUT PAYING! I told her no thank you and I got up and left. She quickly said okay and went back inside. I was a little angry. I tossed the paper coaster on the floor. My experience today. Not a good feeling about that restaurant. I wished there were others there so I coukd ask if she required that they leave a card to eat on the patio also. I've never been asked that before. Chime in! I'm at a different place enjoying crepes on the patio. #Woodbines SN: A friend just informed me that he ate at this same place once and got terrible food poisoning. OMG!
