It's very casual, definitely dive bar status, and shows it's well worn and loved age. They have drinks and food but I only sampled the drinks not being certain of the gluten free status of the food. Karaoke line up was busy and took a while before or groups were called up but it ended up being fun. I think if you're looking for some casual karaoke and like the proximity to the Olympia downtown scene, this is probably a pretty legit spot for you.

All is welcome great ambience we were even lucky enough to get a seat. Well within 15 minutes of coming and sitting down with our drinks we realize that later on in the evening, it was a drag queen karaoke. It was amazing. We had a great time. We just wish we would've brought more singles for the tips. We definitely come back to this place and bring friends I really like the ambience how everyone is welcome here it is street parking but it was a real safe feeling environment and everyone was super friendly and the drag queens and their karaoke and they're singing and their performances were all super on point and amazing. Last night four of my close friends were assaulted outside of Jakes On Fourth by four of their patrons. As one was verbally assaulted and held back another was struck in the face and kicked multiple times while on the ground. Another was hit four times in the face until they were knocked unconscious for 7 minutes, suffering a concussion, a fractured nose, in addition to several eye injuries. With the last being struck multiple times to the face to the point where they cannot see past the swelling in one eye. All of my friends are queer and two are women. This happened outside of a self-identified "Gay" bar while they were walking by and the entire assault was glittered with homophobic slurs from the bar-going assailants. This is an unfortunate addition to a long list of similar events that have happened in and directly outside of Jakes over the years. From myself or my loved ones being touched and groped by different members of their house Drag family to being repeatedly accosted and verbally assaulted in the restroom. My girlfriend has experienced transphobia on multiple occasions at this bar from both the patrons and the entertainers and has been physically assaulted outside of Jakes herself. Their Drag queens proudly exclaim on mic that they do not need consent to touch the guests and are actively unsupportive and negative towards non-cis gendered performers. These experiences alone show that this bar is far from a safe space for queer people. Despite their record Jakes continues to proudly display a poster that claims it is a safe space and that they have zero tolerance for things like homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and heterophobia. The reality is that the only thing on their list that doesn't actually happen at Jakes is heterophobia (and that word in itself is a whole other discussion). The staff at Jakes are doing their best to maintain safety but they are often managing hundreds of rowdy people at one time (most of which are not sober) and it is unfair of the owner Rob to burden them with the responsibility of upholding the safety that he promotes on his walls. If you want to profit off of the rainbow flag then you need to do what it takes to make sure that queer people are actually safe in and outside of your establishment. If you don't feel like doing that because your priorities are profiting from the problematic then take your rainbow flags down and stop pretending your anything other than a "Gay" themed straight bar. read more

This review is for the Trump supporters from last night. Jakes is not a safe place. Jakes is not a gay bar, even though is touted as one. I have been a regular there for a while, I love the staff, they are the best people. They work so hard and unfortunately have to deal with assholes a lot. If you are an LGBTQ person like myself you have about an 80% chance you will be sexual assaulted, hear anti LGBTQ hate speech, or see someone get harassed all during a Saturday night at Jakes. I'm a disabled veteran and this bar fills up with asshole Trump supporters from JBLM. Don't get me wrong there are tons of allies that I love to see coming out to have a great time, come out of their skin. I love having allies in any gay bar. This isn't one. If you are a woman this is not a safe place for you. Men feel like they have the permission to lay hands on you and touch you. Unfortunately, as of last night I don't feel like this is an equal rights safe place either. I miss my gay bar. Jakes is not a safe place. I want a bar where I can be gay and safe with my allies. I shouldn't have to worry about being sexually harassed by some Trump supporter asshole breeder that feels entitled now that an asshole rapist failed business man is our "president" (I literally can't say that without quotations) Not in a "gay" bar. These soldiers from JBLM were horrible last night. They made me feel immense shame for my 6 years of military service. Why go to a place and spend your money if you just have to worry about the breeder Trump people? I miss real gay bars. I miss a place where I feel safe surrounded by LGBTQ people and allies. I love you allies. Thank you. Gay bars were my safe haven, for many of you too I'm sure, when I first came out at 20, ten years ago. What the fuck has happened? Some friends of mine wanted to go dancing in Olympia so we thought we would check out the gay bar since we are all varying degrees of gay (lesbian, 2 gay men, 1 bi girl). None of us had been to Jake's before so we were all a bit suprised to see that it is rather ugly inside. Tan, black and burgundy are the colors of decor...it looked more like a giant rec room from the 70s. The dance floor is big but the sound is way too loud...and this is coming from someone who loves to dance. It is impossible to hold a conversation in this bar. The drinks were decent, not too much, not too little. Prices were alright too. The bartenders...well...I waited in a long line and I watched the other line go faster and wondered why, as I got closer I saw that the bartender, a very, very pregnant brown haired with glasses, wouldn't stop dancing long enough to whip the drinks out as fast as the other bartender. It was annoying but when she ac tually stopped dancing she was nice enough. There were two cute bearded fellows working, a cute little butchie dyke, and a mean, nasty barback. My friends and I were in the back of the club when the nasty barback girl came rushing down the hall with her bus tub screaming "Move the fuck out of the way", yikes! The music was just okay but honestly, if I wanted to hear disney songs I would go watch disney on ice with my nephews, I couldn't believe the dj was blaring disney songs, amusing, sure but not what I want to dance to as the last song or two just as I was trying to make out with the hot guy I had just met! All in all I would just say Jake's is okay...not many gay people were there but tons and tons of very aggressive straight men, the music is ok but strange, the staff is also just okay and a bit rude and not that appealing, prices were decent, the cluster of shady looking people out front didn't make me feel safe. Jakes is an attempt at a gay bar but fails pretty badly. Like I said, its just okay and would be a decent option if you were too lazy to drive to a real gay bar in Seattle or Tacoma. Place is just shady. What other people have said about the bartenders having poor customer service is dead on. Supposedly it "used to be" cool, but it's just become a grungy cesspit of dirtyness now. Homeless people hang out all around the entrance, people hit on you inside by leaning over you and breathing and spitting drunk spittle in your face... the place smells; -bad. Even trying to play a game of pool in there, people are rude. Someone got stabbed outside there the other day also. Not a nice, safe or respectable place. Supposed to be a queer bar, but you probably won't feel safe there as a young queer person. It's mostly a bunch of old homeless or nearly homeless smelly guys, and people who look high. The only upside to this place is the hotdog stand, which does have pretty good dogs. But, to venture down to the dirtiest, shadiest part of town just to get a hot dog? Eek. If you go, go at your own risk. I advise pepper spray. and not staying too long, and not going alone. Expect that you may be accosted by someone. Whether it's a homeless person, a crazy person, an old man who's been drinking for so many years it smells like he showers in booze, genuinely creepy people, or the bartenders themselves... this is not a nice place to be. I moved back to this area in 2011 from Portland. I was a single bi girl and wanted to find a good place. Went here with some coworkers. Now, I knew what a REAL gay bar was like and this wasn't it, but they did a good job of being an "everyone's welcome" kind of place. So it was fun. Over the years, this place has changed. Last few times I was there, it was nothing but straight men circling the dance floor like hungry vultures and women getting pawed at without their consent! And now the patrons are assaulting members of the LGBTQ community?! Not a safe place for any woman regardless of your orientation!! Jake's has two choices. 1.) Take down your pride flags and stop advertising as an all inclusive bar. However honorable your intentions initially were regarding this, it no longer applies! Or 2.) Be more selective about who you let in! If you spot homophobic behavior, don't turn a blind eye! BAN THEM! Send the message that sexual assault and queer bashing is not ok in your establishment! I wrote a review in Nov for Jakes and it seems to have been removed for some reason.... ummmmm Well I think that is what should also happen to this so called Gay bar. I have seen, heard and felt the out cry from locals that this place needs to clean up it's act. Bad vibes inside with all of the druggies and street thugs hanging out inside and outside. Drug usage inside has gone rampant with used needles regularily found in the restrooms and outside it's back smoking area. Rude employees during peak hours, I would think that the employees would be more greatful their tip jars were filling up at these hours and make the customers feel like they are welcome rather than feeling like we put them out asking for anything. I use to love going into Jakes with my wife and our Gay freinds but no longer. What ever happened to the old Jakes from 2-4 years ago? A really fun place to go to when they first opened and for the first few years but now it seems so divey and dirty. read more

When the gay bar is transphobic... I witnessed a sexual assault on opening day of this bar, and nobody did anything about it. All the music here is atrocious radio garbage from 2012. The drinks are ridiculously overpriced and underwhelming. And to top it all off, this bar is deeply transphobic, to the point the owners couldn't even tolerate a safe-for-work drag event occurring in their bar. Nobody who's anybody goes here anymore for this reason. I saw it closed at 9pm on a Friday night, peak time for a club like this, and the Saturday afterward I saw it almost completely empty. If you're LGBTQ+ in Olympia, there are tons of places for you to go which will be accepting and friendly spaces. Jake's On Fourth is absolutely not one of them, unless you are a middle aged transphobic gay dude who works at JBLM. read more

Hardly a gay bar. There are zero gay male spaces in Olympia and negative 10 spaces for bears. The crowed in here is almost entirely straight guys trying to find straight women who are trying to get away from them laced with a few alcoholics who just want the booze. If you are a young lesbian you might maybe get lucky if you can dodge the straight morons, I don't know. If you are a gay guy your only option is to drive to Seattle, or maybe Tacoma. My daughter was assaulted there last night. There was a girl there she had a no contact order with due to her assaulting her a few months ago. The law states the girl can't be there due to the order as long as my daughter is there. Staff was informed of this and still allowed the girl to be there. My daughter was assaulted as she was leaving. This is a blatant disrespect for the law. Makes me wonder what other kind of illegal activities are going on there. I will be contacting a lawyer to see what kind of lawsuit we can press against this establishment. read more

Perhaps Jake's was a great place once, but I've run into many other customers there who had bad attitudes and felt like sharing (not so at, say, Voyeur, even though the latter has a decidedly gloomier crowd) and I can't shake the fact that the local creepy, straight Internet swingers have decided, successfully (and not uncommonly, unfortunately), that gay bars = sex bars, and that it's the venue for their various unprotected overtures at one another in a semi-public space. This place just isn't what it used to be. It's a "gay bar" only if the only requirement for that label is that it let's gay people in. Drama is always going down here and definitely not a space where many people would feel safe. I guess we need this place so homophobes can have an environment that teaches them how to interact with somebody unlike themselves, and this bar does a halfway decent job of it, but that's about all the value this place provides Olympia or the lgbtq community. I will never go here ever again!! Went in a friday night, The dj was shitty. All he did was play the songs as they were like there is no skill in that and definitely not the right songs to play. Walked in and saw crips and latin kings members walking around...no thank you. I did not see any security whatsoever. It reminded me of a party at a drug dealing high schoolers house. Jakes claims to be an "accepting and safe" space and a "gay bar" but they play songs like "blurred lines" which BLATANTLY condones and encourages rape and artists like Katy perry, who is a homophobe AND a racist. that doesn't make me feel safe, that doesn't make me feel like I'm in a queer and accepting space. One of the only places in the town where you can dance. By the way, this isn't really a gay bar anymore, it's about 2/3 hetero at this point. I'm a local in Olympia, and this place tends to attract obnoxious people, not to mention the ambulance usually pays the place a visit every weekend. Routinely, my russle-posse and I will find ourselves toe-deep in some spare change and loose dollar bills and whence inquiring upon a way to get down locally will undoubtedly choose the real twist-shaking atmosphere of the Vault. Aside from serving as saloon, mercantile, commissary, and postal office the Vault also doubles as a general community gathering outpost. Their non-profit wing, Vault Above The Streets, has given out many promotional light-up keychains, Keith Sweat concert tickets, Bacardi stickers, and Jagermeister tank-tops to the area's impoverished military wives. On saturdays and fridays, the Vault is a shining beacon of the community's bright future and safe streets. Maybe a return trip with an open mind will change your review?

I love to sing, and the DJ is great! She will definitely make your night fun. I only come here during karaoke nights. Once the rowdy crowd arrives, usually after 1130pm, it's the sign for me and my wife to exit stage left. . Some of the young crowd arrive drunk and just ruin the vibe for me. But, the karaoke crowd is awesome. The Bartenders are awesome, especially when it's time for them to deal with the young crowd. I've only had one issue with one of the bartenders (older gentleman; Very Rude). Shout out to all the other bartenders for always providing a service with a smile despite how busy it gets! This was my experience but you have to give the place a visit to experience it for yourself. Again, I've only been here during karaoke and when the young crowd start coming in.
