So I was on my way back from jury duty and quite hungry. I made a stop at the bank and turned to Yelp yet again. I was in the mood for a cheesesteak. Jakes was the closest place so off I went. I ordered a cheesesteak with extra American cheese and extra mushrooms. The meat and mushrooms were very good and the roll was long and mushy soft. I asked if there was anywhere to wait, and there was not. I sat at a tiny table where one of the employees was doing accounting it looked like. Just discovered their Grandma's Sunday Dinner for $59.95 that feeds 4 and it's fantastic! Called ahead and ready in 30 minutes. Easy pickup with entree and pasta packaged separately each in its own tray pan with lid. Also comes with quart of soup along with salad and rolls. Menu rotates every week and is always delicious. I haven't dined in since our first experience, but takeout seems the way to go. ************************************************* **Original review below** I have pondered writing a review all day, because I really hate to ever be negative, and I truly respect the restaurant industry and the fact that sometimes there's just an off day. I'm hoping we just encountered a day where they were short staffed because someone called out, but we our whole experience left us puzzled. We have heard nothing but great things about Jake's and have talked about trying it for weeks. Finally we decided today would be a great day to go for some brunch before Christmas shopping. My husband and I dine out frequently and we have had some terrible service lately, but we were hoping this would end the streak. We walked in and weren't sure if we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. There were about five other tables of customers at the time. Three of those tables already had been served. We were promptly greeted and asked what we wanted to drink. There were no drinks listed anywhere so we just asked if they had a few beverages and they were brought out promptly. Then...we waited...and waited...and waited. It was over 25 minutes before our waitress finally came to our table. This was not the same person who brought our drinks. She came over and said "I'll be with you in a few minutes" and we waited some more. She was clearly in the weeds, but I couldn't figure out why. I was a waitress for 8 years and I know what it feels like to be swamped, but aside from one other table waiting for their food, we were the only table waiting for service. I watched the pace of the food coming out of the kitchen. One dish would be brought out while the others at the table would wait for their food. This lead me to believe maybe the issues were stemming from the kitchen. I'm still unsure. We finally ordered and our food came out about 15 minutes later. My omelette was first and my husband began eating my food with me while we waited for his. His chicken and waffles were brought out, missing the whipped butter and spicy syrup described on the menu. The waitress placed it in front of him and said, "Do you want syrup?" We both looked at each other because we thought it was silly. Who wants a dry waffle? Do people like dry waffles? Maybe they do, but I digress. She grabs a typical restaurant style container of syrup from another table and leaves. About five minutes later, she brings out the whipped butter and spicy syrup and says, "Here's some of the butter and spicy syrup that goes with your waffle" All in all the food was decent. I can't complain about that. Nothing to rave about, but definitely not bad at all. When we were done our server asked us if we wanted anything else. We said no. She disappeared. We were the only people there. She came out a short while later and began wiping down tables as we sit and stared at each other. She finally came back and asked if we wanted anything else...again. We asked for the check and she promptly brought it over. My husband and I have had four course dinners at fine dining establishments that took less time than this breakfast. No lie. We are not hard to please and we never complained once. I just decided to write this review because I was wondering if anyone else experienced anything like this or if it was just a fluke and we should give it another try a different day. read more

I was at my doctor's office finishing up an appointment so I took a free moment to check Yelp for take out options nearby. The doc noticed and asked which restaurants I had in mind. I mentioned Jakes and she said it was a great choice. She pointed out that they used to have a storefront next to Iona Lake in Franklinville. I totally had forgotten! I used to eat there in high school. Aw. With that knowledge in hand, I called and placed my order with a very sweet lady. She said 20-25 minutes. I arrived in 20. My pizza was ready but the mozzarella sticks and chicken salad club were a few minutes more. Seating was available near the counter for people waiting. Nice touch! When it was all ready, she said "see you soon." It always cracks me up when people say that...but in this case, she's probably right. After all, the food was all really, really good! I especially enjoyed the plain pizza (small: $8.50). Usually I gravitate toward chicken salad and just have a slice, but I couldn't stop myself at one! I'd definitely recommend this spot if you're in the area and want some top-quality pizza. read more

My friend orders from here all the time. So we placed a large order on a Sunday. I had the French Dip. The jus was dripping all over the bag. It was bland and flavorless. My roll was burnt. See pictures above. The roast beef, while plentiful, was dry and bland. Horseradish on the side was missing the "bite". It was only a bit vinegary to taste. $8.50. No chips, fries or any other accompaniment. My friend's Chicken Parm sandwich on a premium priced seeded roll also had a brown dry (toasted?) roll. read more

Great breakfast venue. Great selection of omelets and pancakes at a reasonable price. Service is a bit slow but everything is cooked to order and worth the wait. Hash browns are hand cut and mixed with delicious sautéed onions. The Spanish omelet was delicious and could easily feed two. While we were eating another patron recommended their dinner. I'm actually writing this review as I'm eating because I'm not sure I will be able to accurately describe my feelings about this place and its food once I'm done. From recommendation the first on the order was their onion rings. My thoughts: Crisp'd to perfection. Seasoned batter left a flavorful bite. The dip had you wishing they sold it separately. Order them! Their famous for it. The entrees were a Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak and a Sausage with Peppers, Onions, and Marinara Sauce ordered from their Specialty Sandwiches list. First off, everything here is homemade and made with QUALITY food. The Buffalo Chicken Cheese Steak was full of real chicken breast, not shredded, and just the right combination of buffalo sauce and cheese. The Sausage sandwich had a very healthy serving of meat, peppers, onions, and sauce. Needless to say, this isn't the typical quick service restaurant. Food is made to order. Again, everything is homemade. The quality is tasted in every bite. The owner is present and involved in making sure premium service is delivered. We've been ordering takeout from Jake's for years, so we felt confident in ordering from the catering menu for a party. We ordered the Pasta Primavera and garden salad to accompany our pig roast. Guests were raving about the Pasta Primavera, and everyone was asking where it was from. The vegetables were obviously fresh and it held up on a warming tray without drying out. They were also so helpful with letting us know how much to order for the amount of guests we were serving and even delivered. Tonight I had to stop at families house to take care of some business so we were all getting beyond the point of starvation lol so we decided to try here since they had the menu and said they got food from here before and it was good. Most of us ordered one type of burger or another which all came with a small cup of coleslaw and fries at a reasonable price. My son ordered one of the grilled chicken sandwiches and said it was very good. The cheeseburgers were good as well and the fries even after being delivered still had crispiness to it. The coleslaw was good. It wasn't mayonnaise based it was more like a vinegar I guess but tasty. It reminded me of a small salad. I Gave three stars because while ordering I had to be asked to hold a few times while they spoke with someone else and had to repeat myself with my order as well as instructions of address a few times. The woman was very nice though i will say that. And the only other thing Was it did take a while for our order to arrive. And I would also like some lettuce, tomatoes and onions with my burger. I found this place tucked away on a side road & im not mad i did. So i only got a slice for lunch but i am tempted to try something else. The menu selections are great and she serves breakfast too. My sausage parmigiana was great. So this was once a larger restaurant that moved into a pizza place. They have moved two time over the last few years, but Yelpers seem to still love the menu. Just ok. Service was extremely slow. Food mediocre. I did like the chicken parmigiana but the sauce on the pasta was watery. Rolls were cold when they could have just popped them in the pizza oven for a minute. Burgers were big but dry. Pizza was ok. My wife's chicken dish was watery with canned artichokes, mushrooms that weren't fresh and was bland. Sent it back. I wasn't impressed and wouldn't go back for dinner. It was a hot day and we were coming back from AC and wanted some good filling food. Got the amazing onion rings with dipping sauce.. huge portion which I shared and could not eat anymore!!! Also got the chicken salad named after the owner with amazing balsamic dressing so wonderful. Ate most of it the next day and it was still amazing. The place is in a strip mall and does not look like much. Loved our waitress.. we were the only ones in the place since it was in between lunch and dinner and she gave us tons of information... We ordered a few trays of food for Mother's Day. I was pleasantly surprised when I called a few days in advance to order. The woman that I spoke to was so friendly and helpful. We ordered a tray of chicken cutlets, penne in vodka blush sauce, and chicken franchaise. They delivered the food right on time . Even the delivery guy was super nice. Everything was piping hot and absolutely delicious! We really enjoyed everything and have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We usually go out to eat for Mother's Day but obviously couldn't this year, and Indis not want to have to cook. We definitely made the right decision ordering from Jake's ! Haven't been to Jake's since they were on the bypass. Ordered chicken franchaise and asked it to be made without capers which the girl that answered the phone said was not a problem. I have had this dish at many restaurants and I have to say this was the absolute best I've ever had. Two big pieces of chicken in a perfect franchaise sauce with enough to dip bread in. After reading reviews about this test, I ordered a plain pizza and chicken dingy. Delivery was quick, the fingers were very good, but the pizza was not very good at all. Very good and freshly made food. My mom and I stopped by here on the way to the beach and the first impression was the lovely Shaun who has superior customer service. She gave us the run down on the history of the place and how the food is made fresh to order. I had pizza and garlic knots and my mom had a slice and a pizza roll. We weren't able to eat it all so we had some to save for later that evening.
