This is our favorite place to go to in Anchorage for Mexican food! It's definitely not nearly as good as authentic Tex-Mex cuisine, but it still has decent food and quality service! They always provide you with a complimentary basket of chips, and bring both a mild and hot salsa for you to try with it, which I appreciated. The servers here are all extremely attentive and respectful, and their hispanic background gives a sense of authenticity to the atmosphere of the restaurant. The atmosphere is cheery and pleasant without feeling too tacky, so I like it. I've always loved Mexican food, and this restaurant definitely provides adequately for my needs while living for a few years up here in Alaska! read more

Look no further for great beans. The menu includes the yummy beans and a home style carnitas that made my day. I did not order rice. The house margarita served in a authentic style bowl glass should not be ignored. I liked the chips and I haven't really liked non-gluten free chips (name available upon request), in a couple of years. The hot salsa and chips were a treat. Chips and salsa are not what they used to be in Anchorage but Jalapeno's still has chips and salsa worth snacking on while making decisions. I'd give this lovely place 5 stars but I really need to go back and try the seafood. Good chips and seafood are in my future!! read more

Not impressed. My Regina tacos came out looking like a casserole. Ate 2 soggy mushy tacos and asked for new shells to try and save my meal. They brought out warmed up corn tortillas .. not what is served with my meal. I gave up and just ate chips and salsa. Waitress removed the charge for my meal once I informed her how awful they were. I was still charged $2 for the tortillas. Soda was flat and they refused to do a simple same price substitution. Waitress was sweet and attentive but food was a no go. Was hoping this would be a place we'd be able to frequent but sadly, this won't be the case. Shrimp fajitas were disappointing, especially for the price. Sauce was too sweet and the vegetables were not cooked long enough. Carne asada was thinner than we've had at ANY other restaurant and was overly salty. Being that this is Alaska you will never get authentic mexican food no matter what. This place is as good as it gets. Not only was our server very friendly but the food was on point. Without even asking our server brought out this sauce for the chips which was a garlic style dip. Although it was spicy it was on awesome. Decent Mexican fare in a festive environment. I had the 2 chicken flautas dinner (because shredded beef wasn't available) and my husband had the Grande Tostada. Both came with sour cream and guacamole, mine also came with rice and I asked for black beans. I also ordered a lime margarita with wine (yes, I am a wimp). Everything was good. Best salsa so far with yummy cilantro and a hint of clam juice or fish sauce or anchovy, not sure which they use but both hot and mild were chunky and fresh. Everytime I order from this place, the food is ALWAYS horrible. Either the order is wrong, or its a complete Mess to where I cannot eat my food, and the food is not mexican cuisine. Like tonight, my mom orders from this place for my birthday, and I know their American food is far better than the Mexican dishes they serve. I order two beef tacos, simple, nothing could go wrong with my order. So I thought. Food is thrown literally all over the place, beans where my tacos are, making them disgustingly soggy to where I cannot even pick them up because the food is falling out. My boyfriend loves mexican food more than anything and said he would not eat anywhere else if we wanted mexican food! Every time I've gone there the staff is very slow & usually it isn't busy at all. We've been the first customers there and still took an hour. With three children, that's a long time! The food is often too spicy for and my children to enjoy. My last order was also pretty Spicy. I normally don't complain, but the kids tamale was even spicy. I feel like it should be mild. What a great family restaurant! Five stars in one word: Carmen. Carmen is wonderful. She's what makes our experience at Jalapeno's. I don't know if she's one of the owners or an employee, but if it's the latter, they need to give a huge bonus. She provides the best service. In one night, I've seen people repeatedly hug her before leaving the restaurant just to tell her how much they appreciate her. I'd give the food three and sometimes four stars. The new hot salsa is a BIG improvement. Jalapeno's is such a treasure to ER and Eagle Riverites don't really want Anchoragites to discover it. I came across this Mexican restaurant while on vacation and I must say, the food is delicious. It's 100% authentic. I'm not sure if the other people who rated this place just don't know about Chepo's or if they don't know what they're talking about. This place is ok, but it's not as good as Chepo's. They don't even have a liquor license for the margaritas. They make them with Wine?? What the hell is that?! Food is ok, but I'd recommend Chepo's for a better meal. read more

Was doing business at nearby Ft Richardson and went to Jalapeno's for lunch with a colleague. The food was decent initially but it was like herding cats to get the waitress to pay attention to us, even though it wasn't exactly brisk business. I was pretty full by the end and just nibbling on my refried beans when "CRUNCH"... I bit down on something hard! I fished out a rock about the size of my pinky nail which I had broken in two... thankfully no damage to my teeth! When the waitress finally moseyed over, I told her about the rock and she responded... "Happens all the time!" no apology, no embarrassment., no offer of any compensation.. REALLY!!! Unbelieveable! I replied that I grew up in Texas and in all my years of eating refried beans NEVER have I found a rock! It is unacceptable to serve food with rocks in it!... chirp chirp! No response! Not sure what passes for "hearty Mexican fare" in Alaska... but anywhere else I've been doesn't include ROCKS! read more

I come to this Mexican food restaurant more than any other, since I live in Eagle River. This one is very good, although there are 2 in Anchorage I think are slightly better (Pancho's Villa and Gallos). Everything I've had at this one is very good, except the sauce used on the cheese enchiladas sucks and tastes too much like a hot salsa. The decor and wait staff are very good too. For Eagle River residents, by all means eat at this place and stay the heck away from Garcia's! read more

Overpriced honestly if you want decent food but cheaper then just go to Taco King. It was a bit too dark in there for me and the sticker shock killed me. I tried some beans and rice because I felt like I was being robbed. I also had the fried ice cream which wasn't too bad. I also felt like the parking lot was a little awkward and crowded but I understand that you can't exactly change that. read more

They were soggy, barely warm (the plate was hot though) and very bland. The rice and beans were not very good either. My husband enjoyed his steak tacos though and they were very hot.
