First time at Jalapeños, meeting family that live in the area. First, the waiter was excellent! He had a great personality, which you don't find these days, joking with my 7 yo about paying the bill. He handed him the bill and told him that he could work in the kitchen if he forgot his piggy bank in a nice-jokingly way. Second, he was prompt with drinks and food. Finally, the food was delicious. I'd recommend the chicken/shrimp kabob. Jalapeños will be on our list for future meet & dine evenings. read more

We have been coming her once a week almost for the past year. We have been willing to wait in line for the food. Always amazing. Tonight we had our first horrible experience here and are hoping that it is an isolated experience with a new cook. My husband ordered the fajitas and I ordered a combination with a chalupa(fried taco). Received the food and my husband said the fajitas tasted different. My food came with a tostada instead of chalupa( also covered in guacamole which was one of the menu choices). I asked the waiter and he said that the cooks didn't know how to make a chalupa.(which is on the menu, not covered in guac). I didn't eat the tostada covers in guac which is (1) not what I ordered and (2) I get sick from avacado. The waiter said they would take that part off the check. I when we checked out, the manager argued about taking the food off. We paid and left. Very disappointed with this visit here and will probably not be back next week because of the service this time. read more

Usually like this restaurant, but tonight was an EPIC FAIL. $9 daiquiri with NO alcohol. Not even a taste of alcohol in it. Chicken was dried and over cooked...as was the beef. Their tacos are store bought corn shells, not deep fried like most "authentic" Mexican restaurants. Definitely will no be back to this restaurant. Terrible!! read more

Horrible horrible horrible!!!! Not even mexican food. Everything is dried out from sitting in containers waiting for you to order something so they can just literally throw it together. Your food takes like 5 minutes to receive for that reason. No sauce inside my enchiladas, hard to eat cause chicken was old, asked for flour got corn tortillas, asked for white sauce barely any on plate, asked for extra avocado which she forgot TWICE. Had the cheese dip as an app it was watered down. My boyfriend had a burrito where all his meat was highly overcooked. The people that work there just stand against the wall and stare at you the whole time. I had to go to the restroom and had to literally say excuse me 3 times for the employees to move so i could get through to the bathroom cause they were just standing there looking at me. Didnt know where to go to pay for our check. Wont be back here EVER!! read more

My family loves Jalepeños. Table side guacamole is fantastic. The service is always on point. We are treated like friends when we walk in the door. Our favorites are chiles authentic, Texas dip, queso Fundido, margaritas and tacos. Everything is delicious. We've been more times than I can count and never left disappointed. read more

stopped at Jalapeno's for lunch. I thought they had a lunch buffet, they did not but they did have an extensive menu with "quick lunch" choices that were very reasonable. The food was good and served HOT, not luke warm. The waiter looked like he'd rather be anywhere else but at work, not very happy. The food was served quickly but we weren't asked if we wanted drink refills until we were ready to leave. I'd go back again, it wasn't horrible but it wasn't out of the ordinary either. read more

My wife met her friend there last night. Here is what she has told me over and over. The water tasted like toilet water, the waiter acted like we were in his way, he didn't listen to my order, the menus were dirty, (her friend) kept spitting out her food on her plate it was so bad..do you know how hard it is to eat when the person across from you is spitting out food. I asked, why didn't you tell the waiter..., because we didn't see him again..some one else brought us a bill. . read more

My husband and I asked for a little more cheese sauce for our meal. The waiter brought us each a small cup of it, which I thought was very nice...until the bill came. We were charged $3.25 EACH for the extra sauce. This is the 2nd time we've had shady charges on our bill and we won't back. read more

Well I wasn't impressed going in and sitting down with my lady something told me we should have kept it simple and went to Ihop instead trying this place. Just being in the place felt wrong didn't even feel like a real restaurant it was more like we walked into someones family affair to get a plate of food. This place has Restaurant Impossible written all over it if Chef Robert Irvine was to come here every item on the menu would be taken off and done completely over. I come from a city that has many authentic Mexican Food spots that will show you how its really done so I am not clueless to how the food should taste and look. I ordered a steak burrito, beef enchiladas, nachos,beef taco which all sucked seriously the beef has zero seasoning and the same red sauce is thrown on top of everything as if its the greatest sauce known to man.... Uh dont think so I expected sauce on my enchilada but not my burrito which should have its own kind of sauce mild or hot. Not the same damn sauce you put on my enchiladas .O OH and that margarita that everyone is so crazy about blows too cheap Tequila at the very bottom of the shelf might even be from under the floor of the shelf the drink was mixed poorly terrible flavor even I could have made one better. I even ordered a Pink Lemonade that was advertised as Tropicana but it taste more like some cheap knock off nothing about it tasted like lemon. I took a couple bites and bagged the rest only to throw it in the trash at a local Walgreen's store. I have not had a bad restaurant experience in years but this is by far the worst this place is lucky to still be in business they can get away with this poor quality crap in Peru,IL but you would be exposed if you bring this trash out east you wouldn't last a week. Well lesson learned I'll stick to the usual places this one is dead azz. read more

This is one of the best traditional Mexican restaurants I have been to in the USA, the people are very friendly with a great atmosphere! and the food is so good I cannot believe how the flavorful everything is! is there was one thing I could say bad about it, and it not bad its just not for me is the burritos are served open ended and with sauce on them... but that's the traditional way I guess. read more

As a vegan going hiking at Starved Rock, my options were quite limited but I heard this place had a vegetarian menu so I came to check it out. They are definitely vegetarian friendly IF you eat cheese but when I asked my server what to order if I am vegetarian and do not eat cheese, he told me to get the quesadilla??? Then I re-explained and he was at a loss for words and had to ask his manager what to do. I ended up ordering two bean burritos and a chalupa (they have very specific combinations and substituting was apparently not common) and I repeated the "no cheese, no butter, no cream" to him and he goes "not even on top???" SIGH. I mean...how else can I rephrase this...no cheese means no cheese means no cheese. The lime margarita on the rocks was mediocre too. I know I should not be expecting much in the middle of nowhere illinois but I really wasn't asking for too much from a place that advertises a vegetarian menu. read more
