Mexican restaurants aren't generally known for warmth or friendly service, but I really felt like Jalapeños almost went out of their way to be bland and cold. I met three associates while I was there for dinner and not one of them cracked a smile or even welcomed me to the restaurant. There weren't rude, just not hospitable at all. The food was subpar in every imaginable way. The dish I had, bordered on inedible, because both the accompanying chips and the dish itself had an off-putting taste. They offer a 20 oz margarita for their smallest size. It wasn't particularly overpriced, but it seamed pretty unusual in my experience for that to be the standard size. I was in the mood for one, so I ordered it anyway. All around, I felt like I was a burden to them for stopping in for dinner and I really don't like paying someone to be annoyed with me. Several issues with the meal service. Meals began being brought out at 12:50pm. Meals were randomly brought out over a 12 minute period. We had three kids order chicken and fries. They only brought out two and we asked about the third. "It is coming." As of 15 minutes from the food coming out, it still wasn't served. We did ask/remind the server again during that time. It total it took 20 minutes from the first meal being served for our third child to get their order. For one of the adult meals that came out around 12:52pm, they brought out steak fajitas. No one at our table ordered that. We told waitress it was supposed to be a chicken fajita bowl. 15 minutes later at 1:07pm, she brought back a steak bowl. It was sent back again with us again asking for the chicken fajita bowl. 5 minutes later, the correct meal did finally come out. Drinks were not refilled at all, not once by our waiter. We did ask for drinks though. Thankfully, a manager happened to come check on us and we were able to get their drinks and napkins we needed though. But our server did not ever return to the table! My family and I went to Jalapeños Mexican Grill for my birthday, in which is on the 31st. Our server Hanna was great. She asked everyone for their drink order, brought us a huge bowl of queso for our chips. Took our very complicated order, thanks to the kids our food came out super fast, they weren't super busy. My two youngest you'd thought she had served them spiders, she redid their meals to their liking, much better. We had a nice dinner. The staff sang what I think was Happy Birthday to me. I would have to say that overall everything was good. Service was on point, food was ok and the price was not bad. I had the Menudo. It was very flavorful and the tripe was extremely tender. Here is the downer for me. After living in Arizona for 16 yrs I became accustomed to their style of Menudo. Meaning, loaded with hominy and served with fresh cilantro rather than oregano. I would still say that this was good for the area. My wife had the Nachos. She complained about the lacking of flavor and the chips tasting stale. I think her taste buds were broken. I ate half her order and they reminded me of the ones in AZ. The beef could have used some more seasoning and the chips did get soggy rather quickly but overall they were good. Every time I go there service is horrible. Today I ordered a CUP of soup, it was acknowledged by the waitress. Someone put it upon themselves to change it to a bowl, most likely because that's I I ordered, however that shouldn't have mattered. Portion sizes are fair and the ambiance (since they renovated) is nice. We mostly do carry out. Most times the food is excellent. We do like their salsa and they are generous with the chips for carry out. But they have messed up our carry out order more than once. One time our order (a dish we often ordered) was so spicy hot that it could not be eaten (and I like SPICY). When we called to notify them (because we were afraid someone else would suffer the same), the manager wasn't really interested in making it right. It's the same with orders they have mixed up, no offers of some kind of compensation, while we use our time and gas to correct their mistake. If you are doing carry out, be prepared to call.. and call... and CALL. On multiple occasions we have had to call numerous times as they do not answer. We have then looked online to make sure they haven't permanently closed. We have also given up and ordered elsewhere. Not sure why someone can't answer the phone. Your best bet is to eat inside, avoiding being ignored or needing to drive back into town in order to correct their mistakes. The atmosphere is decent and not too loud. Update: We have since ordered carry out for 3 people. The usual generousity with chips wasn't the case. Normally 2 very full bags have been reduced to 3/4 full on one, and not even 1/3 on the other. They once AGAIN messed up an order by forgetting to add the queso to a dish that is dependent on it. I think we are done ordering here for awhile. I'm going from 4 stars to 3. read more

Chips were not served warm, but were very good and the salsa was a tad on the spicy side. I liked the enchilada sauce, but my husband said it was too spicy for him - they were spicier than a lot of Mexican restaurants in Fort Wayne and Auburn serve. I have been a waitress before, I know sometimes there are bad days. But tonight, my waitress was SO RUDE! I come in here often and have NEVER been treated this way. First she never even greeted us or told us her name then she acted annoyed by our order and I even complimented her several times and tried to get her to smile, we felt like she was trying to rush us out as well and when it came time to pay, I gave her a $100 bill, intended to tip her well, then she very LOUDLY had other waitresses come to "check" if it was a real bill or not. I'm not sure what her issue was, it seemed to only be towards myself and no one else with me. Maybe she was having a bad night, but I left feeling very wronged by her attitude and behavior. The owners are very nice and welcoming and food is usually good, sometimes the queso dip is cold, but nonetheless it's good! Until tonight I have not had an issue. What a wonderful restaurants for a casual family dinner. After a long day of running here and there it was nice to sit down and enjoy fresh chips, salsa, and guacamole! Our party of 6 was seated and finished eating in less than 40 minutes on a Saturday night! The staff was very attentive and we never had to ask for refills and had no missing dishes (which never happens when we go out!) The prices are fair in comparison to chain restaurants. However, the food tastes much fresher and has a slight edge on other Mexican restaurants. The kids menu had a variety of options all under $6 drink included. They have a fun bar for 21 and over so if you want a more intimate dinner outside of the dining area I would recommend asking to sit in the bar.
