I was in a random mood for some jerk chicken while in the Bronzeville area, and this was the first option that appeared. I went by, and placed an order for the lunch special (good until 4p weekdays), and not only was the cashier courteous, but the service was remarkably expeditious compared to most 'traditional' Jamaican restaurants. They have many of the sides cooked and placed under a heater lamp, while the chicken was prepared to order. $10 for the white jerk lunch special, and it was well worth the investment. Great service, food, and value. The only reason it's short of 5-stars is due to the absence of background music, which has a well-kept dining area for patrons to sit-in and eat. There is no public bathroom here, so be advised before you arrive if you plan on staying and eating. I went there yesterday and ordered the oxtail dinner with a side of mac and cheese. I was so disappointed in the entire meal. All I tasted was Lime, as if they poured lime juice all over the food. So I called them today to complain about the food and the man did apologize and asked who gave me the food but of course I didn't know his name I just know that he was the only one there. Solid option for jerk food! The staff is friendly and the food is tasty. The jerk salad is always a generous serving. A little heavy on the onion but good overall! The only saving grace attribute I can give to Jerk king is the fact that the jerk sauce has an almost perfect balance. Other than that I can't name many good things. Most if not all of the side items are served buffet warm tray style causing the yams to be "dry" as well as the cabbage being flavorless. My original thought was to try their jerk shrimp tacos however they didn't have the ingredients or at least that's what I assumed. The "jerk shrimp" entree was freshly prepared which was nice but also weird because my sides weren't. It it a hefty amount of food however it's not cheap at almost $20 for a dinner with no beverage. I had a $14 jerk catfish dinner meal with macaroni and cheese and cabbage. It came with a bed of rice and beans and a side of bread with some nice vinaigrette sauce. The peppers on the catfish were delicious I had a top of a hot pepper which burned my tongue, but thanks to my $2 Jamaican pineapple drink, I was all good.
