Honestly, I don't even know what to say about this visit. I brought my sister from Florida here because the food is usually very good, but this time was a major disappointment. I don't know if they have a new cook or what, but it was not it. We ordered our food, and it wasn't until 20 minutes later that the waiter told me they were out of rice and I had to pick a different side. I switched to the mac & cheese, and it was a 1/10. To make matters worse, my sister's plate came out with rice on it! To top it off, the service was seriously lacking. Our waiter had very little patience when helping us with the drink menu. Third time definitely wasn't a charm for this place. Hopefully, they get it back together! The drinks were good, though...

I'm surprised that I'm just now getting the opportunity to eat at 14 Parish. After visiting I am truly impressed! The staff is both friendly & attentive. The bottomless mimosas don't stop until the clock does :). My plantain pancakes were sweet and fluffy just how I like them. And I can't forget about my chicken sausage, that was some of the best I've ever had at any restaurant. It was also nice that the owner came up to every table to see how everyone's doing. I will be back!

Looking to come back, because the ambience was intimate to be around. Loved the food a lot, the catfish was cooked perfectly, tasted every bit of the spices. Although, the parking was a bit difficult

Without a doubt, this is the best Jamaican food and staff. The owner even personally visited the tables. As a lifelong vegetarian, I highly recommend the veggie Jamaican patty, sweet fried plantain, rice and peas, sauteed cabbage, and especially the sorrel, which was absolutely outstanding!

Next stop this weekend was an early dinner at 14 Parish Restaurant & Rhum Bar. We landed a window which was the best seat in the house. Great music and vibe all around. And the food was delicious! We had the conch soup and jerk chicken wings to start, oxtail dinner, jerk catfish, cornbread muffins, plantains and Caribbean drinks, one with hibiscus that's made in-house only. This place has been on my radar and to-do list for so long and it did not disappoint. Our server has so personable and attentive too. We will definitely be back. #chicago #hydepark #southsidechicago #carribeancuisine

This spot never misses. Every time I'm in Chicago, this is one of my mandatory stops. The food is consistently GOOD good, flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. The escovitch snapper was absolutely delicious. Crispy, seasoned perfectly, and topped with the right amount of pickled vegetables. I literally ate the whole fish without struggling once . That alone tells you everything. The cabbage was flavorful, the rice hit, and the cornbread? Whew. Easily some of the best cornbread I've had at a restaurant. Soft, buttery, slightly sweet... dangerous honestly. The drinks are good too, and the whole place has a vibe. Good music, good energy, just an overall feel-good atmosphere whether you're pulling up for brunch, dinner, or drinks with friends. 10/10 would absolutely recommend. Chicago has a lot of food spots, but this one stays in my rotation for a reason.

We really enjoyed our food and drinks when coming here on a Saturday for brunch. Unfortunately, we didn't make reservations and the wait was insane but definitely worth it. We were a bit frustrated that we were not allowed to get a drink at the bar while we waited. We had the jerk chicken, jerk catfish, and rum punch. The jerk butter was so yummy, The food was fantastic and well seasoned. The service was good but the restaurant is small. I would definitely come back if I'm back in Chicago but will definitely make sure I have reservations.

14 Parish never disappoints me. This time I went for brunch and I'm pleased with the new additions to the menu. For this visit I enjoyed my bottomless mimosas as well the latest brunch addition: the oxtail omelette. I did not know what to expect but I was pleased with my selection. The oxtail meat was tender not overly seasoned and mixed well with the tri-color peppers. Never pictured oxtail in an omelette but I'm not mad at my choice. Jarquez the bartender was attentive and kept my water and champagne flute full. Thank you again for a wonderful experience (which I knew I would have anyway)

Late Review(s) Every time I go to 14 Parish, I get a one of a kind experience. I've been multiple times over the last 2 years. Never bad, not amazing. Always in between okay and really good. Let's start with ambiance. I love a cozy corner, okay! Not a lot of people enjoy a smaller restaurant but I do. Enough room for a great conversation that can't be too long, hello! The food is never bad. I've never walked out saying I didn't like something. For example, the salmon reggae sliders and jerk tacos pictured weren't my cup of tea but surely enough they got ate. The Rasta pasta was fantastic the first time I had it, but after my 2nd visit was not up to par. Caribbean wings are always good for me. Now, that rum cake and corn muffins though? You're not doing your experience justice if you don't get those! The drinks, get into it! The bartenders don't hold back on the pour, I'll tell you that. And if they do, sure got me fooled! For service, this is unfortunately the part that's the hit or miss. I've sat at the bar once, and I've been a bartender myself so I understand the notion of "don't come up here irritating me." However, it's okay to cater and welcome the joy you're presented with. I'll leave it at that. As for servers on the floor--you either get someone who knows exactly what they're doing or someone that seems like everything is going over their head. I don't expect servers to memorize orders or make up for kitchen mistakes but communication is key. Keep in mind these are mental notes that I've taken from my visits thus far. This is a place that I will casually return to and deserves the visit each time for sure. Some places are always worth the chance. Overall 7.5-8/10 The rum cake - 10/10 (get one to go and warm it up, trust, you will be pleased)

Coconut Shrimp - smaller than what I am used to Coconut Shrimp being. They were okay.

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time now so a few friends of mine and I decided to come here on August 26, 2025 for a 6 p.m. reservation (highly recommend). We come in and are greeted and seated. The place is pretty small. It was already busy there, all the bar seats were filled with patrons. Our waitress was kind and friendly so that was a good start. We begin with drinks - I got a Lemondrop Martini and my friend got a cocktail also, don't remember what it was. I order the coconut shrimp for an appetizer as well as the jamaican patty with beef (you can also get it veggie if you'd like). I was shocked when the shrimp came out - I've never had coconut shrimp so small. They were okay. The beef patties were okay as well. Next, our meals come out. I had the oxtail dinner ($38) and my friends had the jerk chicken dinner ($22). We had the cabbage greens and rice and peas to go with. The oxtails were tender. The rice and peas were okay but the cabbage greens were alot to be desired. They just didn't look or taste fresh to me. The corn muffins were delicious. Due to it's size, it can get pretty loud in there. Sometimes it was hard to hear what my friends were saying and our chairs were close to each other. Some of my friends have ventured here a few years ago and really enjoyed the food but I tend to agree with Charmins W.'s recent review. She mentioned that the business is under new management and that the food is just okay and not the same as it was. I really wasn't impressed and for my $38 oxtail dinner, I should be kinda wowed. I may give them another try for their brunch and see if I feel any different about them.

Back again! Same as before the food was good and the vibes were on point! I did believe that the host was rude. However, our server, Toni, was amazing and super informative.

I'm general the atmosphere was inviting and chill. Service was excellent. The waiter was very pleasant. The food was tasty. I had vegetable fried rice and callalloo. I requested jerk sauce instead of the sweet and tangy/spicy. I would get it with a protein next time plus vegetables. My bestie had rasta pasta with salmon. The sauce was creamy, flavorful and the salmon cooked perfectly. I tasted a bit too much of all spice on the salmon and in the sorrell but it's not overpowering. I would absolutely order that again. The shrimp artichoke was good but I would have desired my shrimp cooked and embedded within the dip versus a top. Didn't try any cocktails but they have drinks. Street metered parking that's free on Sundays.

The yolk didn't have a strong mustard base, but it was still good. The saltiness of the capers would have been a bit much on them. My ex ordered the catfish with collard greens and a side of slaw. I must admit that they scored high for the crust in terms of crunchiness and flavor. The greens could have used a little more seasoning. I am no fan of slaw, so I cannot speak to how it tasted. I ordered the pot roast and jalapeno grits. You can have shrimp and grits. Give me pot roast and jalapeno grits any day. The pot roast was tender and the grits were creamy without being runny. Dawn AM Eatery packs out fast. The website recommends making reservations. Because we were playing by ear, we went as a walk-in and had a 30-minute wait. It was well worth the wait, from service to good eating. Next time we will make a reservation. Note: I was so in the moment that I didn't photograph our other dishes.

    ### Dawn AM Eatery Review…read more Got up this morning and everyone decided to have breakfast at Dawn AM Eatery. My sister made reservations for our family. She initially tried to make one reservation for 12 people but was told she could only make **two reservations for six people each**, both for 9:00 AM. That was the first red flag. I walked in at 9:00 AM, and as a Kenwood Academy alum, I saw the Kenwood Academy sign and thought to myself, *"This place is going to be good!"* Boy, was I wrong! Everyone who was already there had been seated, but our family was split up--half on one side of the restaurant and the other half on the complete opposite side. One side had a long bench with approximately 16 tables, and that entire section was practically empty. I asked the manager if our family could be seated together on that side since the tables were empty. She told us **no**. I asked why, since there were plenty of open tables. She simply said, *"We have other reservations."* I explained that there would still be plenty of tables available for those reservations, but she remained firm and completely unwilling to accommodate us. Then she told us that if we wanted to sit together, we could sit **outside**. Keep in mind--it was raining, and we had my **80-year-old mother** with us. Needless to say, sitting outside was not an option. What really bothered me was the manager's attitude. There was no apology, no attempt to find a reasonable solution, and no sympathy for the situation. She was rude and completely unaccommodating. We also had three additional people join our group unexpectedly, and they were told they would have to sit outside because we had more people than originally reserved. Then came the service. Our waiter was extremely inattentive and acted as though he didn't really want to serve our group. He took our order, and then we waited...and waited...and waited. At one point, I went outside to check on our other family members who were seated separately. They weren't waiting for their food--they were **well into their meals**. It was around **10:20 AM** when our waiter finally came over and said, *"Your food will be out shortly."* Our food finally arrived at approximately **10:25 AM--an hour and a half after we arrived!** Unfortunately, some of my family members were visiting from out of town and had plans to go to the **Obama Presidential Center** after breakfast. Because of the extremely long wait, they had to leave immediately after eating and couldn't enjoy the rest of the day with us as planned. So, unfortunately, our experience was: Poor service Rude and inattentive waiter Unaccommodating management No apology or attempt to resolve the situation Family unnecessarily separated 1 1/2-hour wait for our food** The only reason I'm giving Dawn AM Eatery **one star** is because the food itself was decent. For a family gathering of 16 people, this was a very disappointing experience. We came together to enjoy breakfast and spend time with family, including relatives visiting from out of town. Instead, we spent most of our time waiting, being separated, and dealing with poor customer service. **Needless to say, I will not be returning anytime soon.** Dawn AM Eatery--you can do better.
