Next stop this weekend was an early dinner at 14 Parish Restaurant & Rhum Bar. We landed a window which was the best seat in the house. Great music and vibe all around. And the food was delicious! We had the conch soup and jerk chicken wings to start, oxtail dinner, jerk catfish, cornbread muffins, plantains and Caribbean drinks, one with hibiscus that's made in-house only. This place has been on my radar and to-do list for so long and it did not disappoint. Our server has so personable and attentive too. We will definitely be back. #chicago #hydepark #southsidechicago #carribeancuisine

We really enjoyed our food and drinks when coming here on a Saturday for brunch. Unfortunately, we didn't make reservations and the wait was insane but definitely worth it. We were a bit frustrated that we were not allowed to get a drink at the bar while we waited. We had the jerk chicken, jerk catfish, and rum punch. The jerk butter was so yummy, The food was fantastic and well seasoned. The service was good but the restaurant is small. I would definitely come back if I'm back in Chicago but will definitely make sure I have reservations.

Back again! Same as before the food was good and the vibes were on point! I did believe that the host was rude. However, our server, Toni, was amazing and super informative.

14 Parish never disappoints me. This time I went for brunch and I'm pleased with the new additions to the menu. For this visit I enjoyed my bottomless mimosas as well the latest brunch addition: the oxtail omelette. I did not know what to expect but I was pleased with my selection. The oxtail meat was tender not overly seasoned and mixed well with the tri-color peppers. Never pictured oxtail in an omelette but I'm not mad at my choice. Jarquez the bartender was attentive and kept my water and champagne flute full. Thank you again for a wonderful experience (which I knew I would have anyway)

Late Review(s) Every time I go to 14 Parish, I get a one of a kind experience. I've been multiple times over the last 2 years. Never bad, not amazing. Always in between okay and really good. Let's start with ambiance. I love a cozy corner, okay! Not a lot of people enjoy a smaller restaurant but I do. Enough room for a great conversation that can't be too long, hello! The food is never bad. I've never walked out saying I didn't like something. For example, the salmon reggae sliders and jerk tacos pictured weren't my cup of tea but surely enough they got ate. The Rasta pasta was fantastic the first time I had it, but after my 2nd visit was not up to par. Caribbean wings are always good for me. Now, that rum cake and corn muffins though? You're not doing your experience justice if you don't get those! The drinks, get into it! The bartenders don't hold back on the pour, I'll tell you that. And if they do, sure got me fooled! For service, this is unfortunately the part that's the hit or miss. I've sat at the bar once, and I've been a bartender myself so I understand the notion of "don't come up here irritating me." However, it's okay to cater and welcome the joy you're presented with. I'll leave it at that. As for servers on the floor--you either get someone who knows exactly what they're doing or someone that seems like everything is going over their head. I don't expect servers to memorize orders or make up for kitchen mistakes but communication is key. Keep in mind these are mental notes that I've taken from my visits thus far. This is a place that I will casually return to and deserves the visit each time for sure. Some places are always worth the chance. Overall 7.5-8/10 The rum cake - 10/10 (get one to go and warm it up, trust, you will be pleased)

I've been wanting to try this place for a long time now so a few friends of mine and I decided to come here on August 26, 2025 for a 6 p.m. reservation (highly recommend). We come in and are greeted and seated. The place is pretty small. It was already busy there, all the bar seats were filled with patrons. Our waitress was kind and friendly so that was a good start. We begin with drinks - I got a Lemondrop Martini and my friend got a cocktail also, don't remember what it was. I order the coconut shrimp for an appetizer as well as the jamaican patty with beef (you can also get it veggie if you'd like). I was shocked when the shrimp came out - I've never had coconut shrimp so small. They were okay. The beef patties were okay as well. Next, our meals come out. I had the oxtail dinner ($38) and my friends had the jerk chicken dinner ($22). We had the cabbage greens and rice and peas to go with. The oxtails were tender. The rice and peas were okay but the cabbage greens were alot to be desired. They just didn't look or taste fresh to me. The corn muffins were delicious. Due to it's size, it can get pretty loud in there. Sometimes it was hard to hear what my friends were saying and our chairs were close to each other. Some of my friends have ventured here a few years ago and really enjoyed the food but I tend to agree with Charmins W.'s recent review. She mentioned that the business is under new management and that the food is just okay and not the same as it was. I really wasn't impressed and for my $38 oxtail dinner, I should be kinda wowed. I may give them another try for their brunch and see if I feel any different about them.

Exceptional service, good, and drink menu. This place made for a wonderful date night. Sat at the bar and got the best service ever. Will no doubt be back soon.

I'm general the atmosphere was inviting and chill. Service was excellent. The waiter was very pleasant. The food was tasty. I had vegetable fried rice and callalloo. I requested jerk sauce instead of the sweet and tangy/spicy. I would get it with a protein next time plus vegetables. My bestie had rasta pasta with salmon. The sauce was creamy, flavorful and the salmon cooked perfectly. I tasted a bit too much of all spice on the salmon and in the sorrell but it's not overpowering. I would absolutely order that again. The shrimp artichoke was good but I would have desired my shrimp cooked and embedded within the dip versus a top. Didn't try any cocktails but they have drinks. Street metered parking that's free on Sundays.

After being reluctant, I'm glad I went! We arrived before 7 PM and the place was already starting to fill By the time we left at 8 PM, it was nearly full Our server was a nice young woman who was able to answer our questions about the dishes, and she brought the bartender over to answer about the cocktails. I was torn between the Parish cocktail and the Hyde Parker. Having grown up, almost my entire childhood in Hyde Park. I went with the latter. Besides white and dark rum, it contains a pineapple gin from somewhere in Africa. He couldn't recall from where and I didn't press him. It comes in a tall glass, and when I tasted it, I thought piña colada without the coconut. I enjoyed it during my meal and I look forward to trying the Parish next. We passed on appetizers this time, but next time I would definitely try the conch fritters or elote or heck, any of them. My father went with the Jibarito which is basically two jerk chicken sliders with the "bun" made from pressed, then fried plantain. It is accompanied by a side of red beans and rice with some of the jerk sauce on top. For my part, I wavered between the roast chicken and the catfish. I asked my server about the jerk sauce and it's heat from the scotch bonnets and she mentioned that it has some brown sugar in it. I thought that might be too sweet, but she brought me a little to taste. The jerk sauce is not very sweet at all, and the heat stays nicely in the background. It is a well balanced sauce. I went with the blackened catfish. I substituted the plantains for the cabbage. I would encourage them to charge the extra dollar since the plantains are slightly more expensive and cost is key in the restaurant business. The dish arrived with the catfish, plantains and red beans and rice and plenty of the jerk sauce. And I set too righteously! The catfish was cooked perfectly and flaked easily and had that nice char. The plantains had their own sweetness that made a nice counterpoint. I was quite full after. My father decided to have a ginger beer. And here is my only ding. The bottle was brought to the table with the cap on and a glass. My father is 90 something and even if not, it would be good practice and Service to open the bottle at the table and pour it into the glass. At least that is my view. It adds to the fine dining experience. This is a training issue. And I also suggest management make sure everyone has tasted the dishes and can describe them. Next time, I will have to see if they have a goat on the menu

Took someone here for the first time and was so grateful they've gotten ALOT better with their customer service. It seems as if they hired a lot of new people lately and it's working out well for them. The food took a little while and what I originally I wanted to order I was told they didn't have but the waitress made a mistake and they did have it. We enjoyed the brunch.

I use to frequent 14 Parish especially after church because of the food but the last time I went it wasn't a good as usual. I'm not sure if the chef has changed but if so they should change back. My server Summer was super nice and made sure my table was taken care of. The ambiance is always the same, just nice enough to enjoy your meal.

Everything here was a win. Started with a yummyJonkanoo rum cocktail that was delicious and some Jamaican patties that were to die for. I have a friend who comes every week to carry out these beef patties Also, very delicious seafood dip. For the main meal a cup of tasty conch chowder. The Jamaican fried rice with chicken was only OK, until I drizzled it with the fantastic hot honey, and that change the dish entirely. Cool vibe, reasonably priced, and street parking via meter was not too far of a walk in a busy neighborhood. I would definitely recommend.
