I was one of those kids in college that got up and went to the Rec before class to run suicides or lift weights. The first thing I did when I moved to Columbus was join a gym - before I even had an apartment. I've joined Boss a year ago and I'm not sure I've done the same exercise twice. Not exaggerating at all. No one is sulking around, there are no cell phones, theres ZERO judgement. It's impossible to have a bad workout here. There's abundant energy and motivation. The grueling workouts are fun and the time flies. I'm a better person everytime I walk out of the building. Taj and James are important people in my life. They both push and care about me. I talk business with James after workouts. Neighborhoods and real estate with Taj. They ask if everything is ok if I miss a couple days. I admire every single person that is a member at BOSS. They all push themselves, they dont judge themselves or others, they are tremendous leaders, and more so than anything they are tremendous humans. I see no reason to ever workout anywhere else.

Detailed pros and cons (price was the big one) for me laid out below. It was about a year ago that I left FE but i forgot to share this at the time; note that things may have changed since I left. PRO Unlike places like Club Pilates, the waitlist works pretty well but it wasn't difficult to regularly attend the same classes without even using waitlists. There were a few classes that worked really well with a 9-5 schedule. CON The cost was significant for me for a place you can't go to outside of scheduled classes. I totally get this is cheaper than one on one training and the quality is extremely high, but when friends and family asked me how much my training classes were, every single answer I gave was met with shock. While FE staff is very friendly and easy to talk to about membership, the absolute cheapest I could make work was the longest commitment. If you come from a two-income household this would be more reasonable, but as a one-income single person, it was not sustainable for me. There were weird moments for me personally, because there were specific "bring/tell your friends" promotional weeks, but all my friends are low-paid teachers and could never afford this. When I started to have some medical expenses and more recently a new car payment, there was no way I could keep paying for this (FYI they were very kind and willing to let me out of membership early). PRO This is a very high quality training experience with kind, personable trainers who are educated, tactful, and observant about who is in their class. For every class, the trainer prepares specific weights and routines that are personalized for every single person signed up. The equipment/space provided and sanitizing expectations are great, down to the number of weights, the individual stations, and the timers. CON There were more (simple things!) instructors could have done to create community. While people were never rude to me, many times when I went to a class with an instructor for the first time (new class time/new instructor for me) -- and this includes my very first class ever -- the instructors didn't facilitate/encourage introductions to the regulars, despite knowing I was new to that class. The class then felt very cliquey, because everyone else knew each other and had inside jokes. I'm an introvert and definitely struggled with that dynamic. CON Though I arrived appropriately early, many times I found I still would be the last one to class -- to the point where everyone else had almost finished warmups. That's supposed to be the point of including the warmup in the class time! I would then be behind the others the entire workout. It's not a competition, but it was difficult to not feel that way sometimes. CON I felt that the onboarding didn't fully click with me for the progression of the sequences in a class, or maybe that was my first class's instructor's fault. I did not understand at all the A then B then interval sequence back and forth, and was extremely confused as to what to do after each one for my first two-ish weeks. This rectified itself over time but I didn't even fully understand what I didn't understand. PRO There are supplemental (mostly paid) opportunities to take advantage of, from special classes to nutrition help to various video content pieces. PRO This is a small business, and the owner is very personable and easy to talk to about membership questions or concerns throughout your time there. Even though i didn't feel intentionally welcomed by the other classgoers, the instructors themselves were all very friendly and genuine.

I absolutely love Jen's workout classes. She has so much energy! I always leave her classes in a…read morebetter mood than when I went in. She strikes a great balance between cardio and strength. I can tell that it's a great cardio workout because of my breath pace, but I also feel a little sore the next morning, which means my muscles got a good workout too! Jen is also great about giving modifications for exercises. For example, she often announces a more strenuous and more moderate way to do an exercise so that all levels of fitness can work for her classes. She is great when it comes to injury prevention. She regularly announces where we should be feeling the focus of an exercise on our bodies and tells us how to change our posture or position to avoid feeling tension in our back or knees. Turning Point Fitness completely changed my mind and gave me a passion for Pilates although they do offer other classes. Using a class-pass system is great since you can use them as you need to, it helps when you have a changing schedule. Lisa and the other instructors are all very knowledgeable and, more importantly for someone with my lack of coordination, very patient! They also have lots of fun classes like before or after Thanksgiving as well as way to keep you constantly challenged. The studio is very nice, very clean and always lots of fun to go to. In addition, they have an in-house massage therapist who is wonderful. Turning Point Fitness totally changed the way I think about exercise!

He has been great..... coaching me in strength training but also nutrition, cardio, and flexibility. His depth of knowledge of the human body is very deep. Every time I whine about a particular exercise hurting my knees... or back... or hips, he knows five other exercises to work the particular muscle group a different way without pain. Truthfully, I hate every minute if it and I leave exhausted. But I have seen huge results. I am stronger, mor limber, and my muscle tone us popping out. The belly? Still working on it but definitely smaller. Juan is patient and encouraging. A great trainer.

Highly recommend this gym! I've been training with a friend here for just under a year…read more Juan really shines when it comes to preventing injuries and stretching. He showed me stretches to help with knee soreness when running, how to engage the right muscles after sitting all day, and my favorite stretch to align my shoulders. Prices are reasonable (when I was there $75 for an individual session, $50 each for a group of two) and Juan is great at having a plan for each session yet being flexible to individual requests. (I also met another trainer Lindsi who I would be excited about working with as well.) A nice perk is that they offer more than an hour of training -- Juan follows up, offers nutrition guidance, encourages you to get other exercise, and provides advice on home repairs (okay, maybe just me on that last one.) TLDR: Juan is caring, knowledgeable, and a lot of fun! Definitely a good investment.
