Best Experience Ever! Like most people, I had always been afraid of the dentist, because I felt they did not care enough to be gentle and sincere. This time I thought was no different. Seeing my dentist leaving out of the office for her own appointment, my heart sunk. Her last words ringing in my ears "they will take care of you", and like a child I asked her "you promise"? She said "if they do not then you let me know". There was this amazing gentle man OMG, very, very kind, not belittling, not humiliating or making me feel ashamed. He actually spoke to me like I'm human and he actually cared. He said that he was going to treat me "like his sister". One of the most patient, gentle, kindhearted, nicest people I have ever met in my life's dental history. I do not know what his name was but no matter what, next time I will be running to my dentist hoping that he is there. Thank you for making this part of my journey a little easier. I was a patient here for almost 10 years, and somehow it ended with a sheriff's deputy showing up at my house over a disputed balance. No certified letter. No serious email saying, "We need to get this resolved." No real attempt to sit down and sort through the billing and insurance issues. It went straight from confusion to court papers. The case was later voluntarily dismissed, but then the account was sent to collections. There's also been a revolving door of hygienists and office staff. At one point, a very young family member--either still in high school or freshly out--appeared to be running the office. I'm not blaming one young person for everything, but putting someone that inexperienced in that position says a lot about the judgment behind the scenes. After watching employees come and go while the same problems continued, it became pretty clear to me that the issue wasn't just the latest receptionist or office manager. The problem seemed to come from the top. After nearly a decade, I expected a phone call, a letter, or even a harshly worded email before the sheriff entered the storyline. Apparently that was too much to ask. Keep every receipt, check every insurance claim, and get everything in writing. Based on my experience, I can't recommend this practice. read more

I had a good experience; quality of care was good. However, My sister who was a client before me called to reschedule an appointment because she was ill. The receptionist was very unprofessional and rude. My sister was sick and unable to drive and take her daughter. Have some empathy.... I will no longer be using their services. read more

Im very disappointed in my last visit since June..I have been going to this office for 16 years..Its a complete change and disappoint to have incomplete dentist work and Dr McDuffue didnt follow up nor came back in the office to finish my work..She text her assistant and told me to bare through the pain instead of making sure I a numb. She gave me all the wrong information on getting my cown work done and keep referring me out for the same tooth A simple procedure that start out at 300 has now tripled ...still no call from to resolve the situation read more

I've been attending for 4+ years now and this has been one of my best dental experiences in the Raleigh/Durham area. They are very tentative and the treatment provided is specific to your needs. There was a time when some suggested services were expensive and I simply denied the treatment plan and they respected my wishes. I recommend Dr. McDuffie's office. read more

I ready don't want to give them a bad review, I ready don't. They quoted me one price and when I went to the front desk they quoted me a different price. I paid the total and wasn't happen. I tried visiting them again with my husband the same thing happened to him and he wasn't happy. Sigh...... They took X-rays and as far as I can tell, they were not looked at or talked about to me. The hygienist clean my teeth and did not clean between my teeth or under my bridge. No one EVER measured my pockets in my gums, but I was charged for a deep cleaning. I'm just troubled about the entire visit. I really want to support this business, how can I when they care only about over charging me. read more

All the office cares about is money. Do not go if you really need work done. The wrong tooth was taken out and the dentist did not care to correct the problem. This occurred after they tried to get more money out of me and I explicitly stated what I wanted to get done. After extracting the wrong tooth, I was given gauze and shown the exit. I was told that they could take out the wrong that I initially wanted but only if I paid for it. Funny how all I was given was gauze, not even stitches, after being told how important it was to close the hole with an expensive bone graft. The fillings that I got are rough and they didn't even get all of the spots that needed to be filled in. read more

The people are very nice and the dental work is usually quite good. I had a bad experience on my last cap. It took three visits to get it right so I changed to a dentist who makes the caps in the office so I can get it all done in one visit. They send too many reminders for appoinments. I would get an email, a text message and a phone call. read more

McDuffie dentristry has been my dentist for the 10 years I've been in North Carolina...while i agree that they overdo the reminder notices and have found it annoying that as a patient, i am required to call to confirm that i plan to come to my scheduled appointment, for the most part my experience with the staff and level care i've received has been good. i have insurance and they have always been clear and aboveboard in explaining any charges not covered by insurance. i am baffled to read the negative reviews as I have had really positive interactions with the hygienist and support staff, and usually I also get checked by Dr. McDuffie, herself, and I get the sense that they remember me and my specific dental needs from visit to visit. They also usually ask me what music i prefer to listen to during my visit, which i appreciate. read more

Out 3 dentist I've tried, this office is hands down the best! I love the atmosphere! The staff makes me feel at home and are very friendly. I was very pleased with my hygienist Sheronda today! Very swift and precise with my scale cleaning! Each time I go, I'm very pleased with Dr. McDuffie's professional and quality work! Dr. McDuffie is a very pleasant person, but the practice itself isn't good. It's a high turn over with the front desk staff and nobody never tells you if your in or out of network with your insurance. They don't really file 2nd insurance unless you remind them to and they don't send you any refunds unless you have them to. Otherwise they keep your money in file as credit. When they file my secondary insurance it seems that I'm always owing them money which I don't understand for the life of me. I would not recommend going here. read more

DO NOT GO HERE!!! I REPEAT -- STAY AWAY!! I, like may others, was attracted to McDuffie dentistry through their charming commercials and put together website, but it turned out to be my biggest nightmare. First of all, their advertised services for sedation are not full service. I was referred out for a wisdom teeth extraction -- so don't start here if that's what you're going for. They also referred me out for orthodontics, so it's unclear if they actually offer that service too. When I first walked in the office, my first thought was "This wasn't exactly what I was expecting." The commercials and website definitely made it seem more glamorous. But this was the least of my problems, and I of course decided to give it a shot. Before I continue with the horror story, I would like to point out that the only good thing about my experience was Dr. Subherwal, who was very professional and interesting. It's unfortunate that she works at this establishment because everything else is a mess. After my first consultation (which costs money) I was told that I needed extensive work on all of my teeth (I'm 22 years old). Even assuming that all the work was legitimate, it got worse. I was quote a price of ~$100 for my first round of work. "Okay," I thought, "no problem." My second round of work was ~$300 and included a crown. Again, I thought "no problem." I paid the dentist office the quoted amount and went on my way. After this, I started getting calls and emails from Marlin -- the ONE person hired to work SPECIFICALLY on insurance. I would like to stress this again -- HIS ONLY JOB IS TO CHECK PEOPLE'S INSURANCE. He told me that when I was referred out to get my wisdom teeth extracted, my insurance maxed out. In other words, he was lazy and did not re-check my insurance EITHER TIME since my first consultation. When your only job is to check people's insurance, I think the expected thing for you to do is to pick up the phone and call the insurance company before you do extensive work on other people's teeth. He told me that because of this error, I now owed the office $1,600, and the claims were still coming in because there were others that were going to get rejected. As a law student, I don't just have $1,600 + to pay without notice. Who does in this economy anyways? Needless to say I was upset. Especially because it was October-November and all I had to do was wait a few months before my insurance renewed. I ended up paying $500 then, and then agreed to pay the rest of the balance at a later date. This morning, I was contacted by a very rude staff member who told me that they had "repeatedly" tried to contact me about my outstanding balance and that my information was going to be sent to a collection agency. This was the first I had heard from them since my $500 payment, and they clearly had my phone number since they were calling me on it. They also sent me a RUDE email saying the same details. I ended up paying the charge over the phone (what other choice did I have -- I checked the contracts they made me sign, they have completely protected themselves from their own major errors). REASONS NOT TO GO TO THIS DENTIST: 1) It's not as glamorous as their website and commercials make it out to be 2) They definitely do not offer all of the services on their website 3) They will tell you you need extensive dental work 4) The price they make you pay in the office will probably not be the price that you end up having to pay 5) You cannot trust the insurance agent, who clearly isn't doing his job 6) You will be contacted by rude staff saying that you're information is going to be sent to a collection agency Again -- pick somewhere else. Even if this was just my individual experience it's not worth the risk when there are so many better dentist offices in Durham-Chapel Hiil. read more

Horrible. I went in to get a cavity filled on the side of my tooth. The doctor covering the practice while Dr. Mcduffie was out created the plan to have it done. Dr. Mcduffie did work on my tooth, but when I got home, I saw she refilled an old filling and the cavity was still there. When I came back and asked why she did that, she said we probably talked about trying to treat the cavity with Listerine. Total lie. Charged me for a cap because there want enough tooth left to hold a new filling. I went to a new Dentist and she did a root canal. I developed a huge infection and found out she broke a file off in my root and never told me. She's now working for Dr. Mcduffie. Sounds about right. read more

I went to McDuffie's practice for about 8 years. At the beginning, service was good and you felt like they wanted to do a thorough caring job. As time progressed, they became more of a busy "factory" and I saw less and less of Dr. McDuffie. Two years in a row, I did not see her at all. She was out and her sub, an elderly gentleman, literally spent less than 30 seconds on my annual dental checkup. I no longer use their services and am much happier with my new Dentist. I do not recommend Dr. McDuffie. read more

There was always some extra work required when I would go in for an appointment. I felt like I was being scammed.

The dental service was good and the people were very friendly but I would NOT recommend them. They do not know how to conduct business. They over charged me twice. Once I helped them to realize the mistake, they fixed the bill. Then they charged me a few hundred dollars for something that they said was free. I do not mind paying for services but I do not like the way they spring the charges on you after the fact. They give you a treatment plan that you agree to and then after they do the service, they start including fees that were not on the plan. I tried to discuss this with them several times and they are always nice on the phone and promise to call back but never call. I have left several messages and had conversations with people that say they will look into why we were charged but I never get a call. However, I continually get emails letting me know they miss my business. read more

So, I was having some major dental pain and was turned off from my previous dentist, I decided to try Dr. McDuffie-Watson after getting numerous good referrals for her. I am also a VERY nervous dental patient due to previous bad experiences. I went in shaking like a leaf and came out with all smiles. I would recommend this practice to EVERYONE I know in Durham! Excellent service. I wasn't told Dr. Mcduffie "little lady you can't pull my tooth". She pulled my teeth without any problems. I didn't suffer any unusual or long-term pain. That Sheronda is a joy to work with. I wasn't in one time and she was telling me about pocket depth in my gums. I laughed and told her "that's where I stored extra food for later."
