A large two story building is the heart of the public area, the bottom floor is a the gift shop, and the top floor is the tasting rooms. This is also the ticket area and gathering place for the tours. Lots of pictures on the wall of the history of the company, mostly photos of people, but some cool items like the telegram allowing new production after prohibition. A very nice distillery that is massive and beautifully laid out! Took the Make a Cocktail session at 11:45 and the hostess was fabulous, funny, and very knowledgeable of bourbon and bitters. Walked by a counter and looked at a bottle of bourbon sitting on the counter and turned it around to see the label and got reamed by the blonde-haired lady behind the counter for touching the bottle. She was downright rude! I almost left the distillery right then and there but instead, apologized for touching the bottle and went on to my session. Afterwards, visited The Kitchen and was able to take my drink with me (I returned the glass back to the session leader after I finished). I had the cheese platter (2 cheeses and crackers) and the cream cheese with pepper sauce was wonderful. The pimento cheese had no flavor. I purchased a couple of bottles of bourbon (they were out of the 9 year and 15 year sadly) and went on my merry way. read more

Since I've already been to the Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee, I had to give this one a chance! I booked the Beam Made Bourbon Distillery Tour & Tasting for my significant other and I on their website. I even brought my dog along. This experience was a total of 1.5 hours. The entrance took us down a winding road around the campus. It was quite large, so the signs helped tremendously on where to go to find parking. We entered through the American Outpost building to get things started. We were each issued a physical ticket. At the start of the tour, we were greeted by the two tour guides. After being told the rules, they directed us to go on the shuttle bus outside. It was a short ride to our first destination. We used the shuttle bus throughout the tour, as the campus was so much larger than it appeared at first glance. We were also in and out of certain areas, so if you have the chance to visit here, you may want to dress appropriately for the weather. Unfortunately for us, it was cold outside. After we viewed everything on the tour that was used to make bourbon, our last stop was to actually try bourbon! With bourbon around me for over an hour, I was pumped to arrive at the tasting room. I was able to choose my own seat and there was a tasting palette prepared in front of each seat. The palette consisted of Jim Beam, Basil Hayden, Knob Creek, an empty glass for Your Bourbon Of Choice, Booker's Beaten Biscuits, and Water. We were guided on how to properly perform a bourbon tasting. Without giving too much away, there was a process, trust me. This tasting was, in a way, elegant. I enjoyed everything on the palette, including the oddly placed Biscuit. For my Bourbon Of Choice, I chose Booker's. I figured that it would be a good choice, since it was a fairly old bourbon and being the oldest of the choices. It was a mean bourbon! I'm glad I chose it. The service at every angle of this place was outstanding! The tour guides were both filled with knowledge and even answered random questions from other guests on the tour. They never rushed anything, which gave me optimal time to soak in each set of scenery. Overall, I had a great time here! The cold weather was saddening, but of course that wasn't their fault at all. Overall this place is beautiful! Unfortunately it also is disappointing. When I was here in 2012, we had issues getting on a tour and just did an interesting tasting in a barn that had auto dispensing alcohol tastes. When we came here in 2021 they were completely shut down. Google didn't tell us that when we searched unfortunately so we wasted time then. Finally we come in today. Tried to get into a 1:15 build a cocktail class at 1:04 and couldn't because that's not enough time to set up for three more people. Bought some Manhattan mix and left. I guess what I'm saying is plan better than me and know that even though they advertise 8 spots left in a time period, it might be a lie. read more

Very disappointed. New to the area always wanted to go, so My wife and I drive 1 1/2 hours to get there wanted to buy a couple bottles of specialty Jim Beam and always wanted a 18 year knob. I stepped up to the tasting area waited and waited made eye contact waited and waited. The server continued to make small talk with others. After being ignored I left. I'm a disabled vet and in allot of pain from standing I refused to stand anymore if I'm being ignored. I did not come to taste I came there to buy for my collection of bourbon. Won't be going back, will I buy their product? no, was it a good experience? No. I've had a much better experience at other distillery in the area. Very disappointed. read more

Such a cool and awesome experience! On our way to Louisville, my husband had an idea of stopping here since he is a huge fan of the brand. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here! There's some walking but don't worry there is a bus that takes you around this huge distillery. Our guide was not only knowledgeable but also likable; she made the tour even more enjoyable than it was. We also did a whiskey tasting at the end that later turned into a cocktail making class. In it we watched one of their bartenders teach us how to make a drink. I recommend giving this distillery a shot if you're visiting! Probably one of my favorite distillery experiences yet. The grounds are huge, the distillery has a ton of large buildings, the 2 floor gift shop is massive with a place to etch your own bottle, after you've filled it on the line and stamped it with your own fingerprint in the wax. We did the Beam Made distillery tour and tasting and between the van to drive us around the huge facility and the tour guide with a mic, it felt like a very big "show" being put on for us. We learned the history of Beam, the number of different brands and about their goal of a million barrels per year. The tour guide was very good and energetic, it was alot of fun to "bottle your own" Knob Creek for only $60 plus another $10 if you want it etched. Many on our tour did this. The tasting included Jim Beam, Basil Hayden, Knob Creek and a choose your own. There was a restaurant on-site which we didn't try. It has been a day since I took the tour, so I was able to let it simmer in my mind. And this morning it still bothers me. I do not like to leave negative reviews and I like to think things through before I make a judgement, but with it still bothering me this morning, I feel I do not have a choice. Now, this is a beautiful distillery and everything was well decorated and thoughtfully put together. The campus is huge. So here is my issue, I felt I was ignored throughout the tour starting from when I entered. As I entered the building there was a check-in desk so you can pick up your tour ticket. There were three people helping the customers already so I waited in line. I was the very next person to be served. So when the first opening opened, the customer service person looked at me (there was no one behind me) and then looked away pretending to tend to papers. I took one step, but then backed off because she looked to be busy. I waited for the next opening. By then a group of five white people walked in and were behind to the right of me. The next spot at the desk next opened up and I thought I was next. The lady immediately looked up and looked passed me and said to the white people, can I help who's next? I am really agitated at this point. The white people walked forward to the desk attendant and I decided to as, well. The lead white guy saw I was cutting in (the customer service lady was only looking at him, not me) and stopped. He said, "Oh you're ahead, go ahead." The people were actually nice. Good white people, unlike the racist customer service desk. The customer service lady finally decides to help me. Still no greeting, no smile. Just takes my information and gives me my ticket and I'm off. She then greets the white group with a smile and cheers. That whole incident bothered me for the rest of the tour. The same thing happened to my tasting tour. The lady ignored me but spoke to everyone else in the group. A room full of white people and I am the only brown person in the room. Could it be coincidence? I do not believe so. I bought no souvenirs and immediately left. White people may drink your bourbon, but some brown people USED to. I will still with other bourbons from now on. read more

This is probably the best eating house in the area. Do not expect you will find "hard to find" bourbons but you will have a great time. If you get there early (like, when they open) you might get Knob Creek 15 (I tried twice and wasn't lucky) but I did get their single-barrel pick, which is great. I really wanted Knob Creek 12 and got a taste in their eatery (ironically, I got home and got two bottles in my local store). Just a massive campus and a great visit. read more

My wife and I hit up six distilleries in our weekend trip and this was one of the best overall. More hands-on than some of the others, and the opportunity to personalize a bottle of Knob Creek to take home was great! The facility is very well maintained and the displays are modern and well designed. Our tour guide was energetic and genuinely interested in what he was doing which made it fun. The history was so interesting to learn. The bourbon sampling was very well done too. Afterwards we decided to get lunch at the on-site kitchen restaurant and it was so good! The pepperoni pizza had a great spice to it and the mushroom pizza with creamy ricotta and added sausage was amazing! Both were cooked to perfection with a nice char around the edges. After visiting Bernheim my partner, his parents and stopped nearby to the restaurant at Jim Beam. You have to walk through the main space to get through but worth the confusion. Drinks were well crafted - everyone throughly enjoyed their cocktail. Fries were cooked to perfection (crunch with a soft inside) and the duck poppers had the umami effect -bacon, cheese, and the sweetness from the cane syrup sauce. The pizza was awesome- cheesy and earthy - crust was done well. I forgot to get photos of the smoked brisket with grits and the pork sliders. Visited Jim Beam on a work related activity. Having been to a number of other distilleries, I figured this would be like the rest. Although the bourbon production is basically the same, I give 5 stars for the tour we were on. The tour guide was knowledgeable and sure to treat every question positively. Beam has a great setup with signage and interaction. Towards the end of the tour, you can pick your own Knob Creek bottle, watch the filling process and put a fingerprint in the wax seal. The bottle is $60, about retail. I was pleased with the tasting as well. Beam generously includes some harder to find options like Bookers and Bakers as part of the tasting. The Beam "tourist" facilities are new and well appointed. Though you won't find hard to get bourbons in the gift shop, it's well done. The restaurant is also a nice spot to eat. As part of a visit to the Louisville area for a wedding, we added a couple days to play tourist. Beam was an easy drive and a cool experience, even for us bourbon novices. The property is like a state park with lots of old trees, hills and open land dotted with aging barns. The basic tour takes visitors to various buildings to see process equipment while hearing about Beam history, but the emphasis is tasting the product. During the tour a barrel of Knob Creek is opened and visitors can watch the bourbon get filtered, bottled and labelled and then buy the freshly bottled product. We got one which will be served to guests at thanksgiving. The gift shop is large and the staff treated us like family. The restaurant is first class. We sat st the bar and watched bartenders that are in a league of their own. The food was very good served by peolpe that were very friendly. It was fun doing the tour and tasting. During the tour, anybody who wants to gets the chance to grab their own bottle and put their fingerprint in the wax at the end. It was a fun little add on and I thought it was worth the price. I love all the places for photos from the signs, displays, the scenery, and just the beautiful old buildings. Jim Beam is likely the largest bourbon maker in the world and they spare no expense in providing top notch tours to the public. I booked my tour as part of a package through Mint Julep tours so I am not sure exactly which tour they had signed us up for. The facility in general is very large and covers hundreds, if not thousands, of acres with rick-houses well off their main property all containing 50,000 barrels in each. If I recall they said there is over 500,000 barrels currently aging across all their rick-houses. The visitor center/gift shop is a two-story structure with plenty of memorabilia that will make you want to take at least something home. You name it, they likely have their name on it and you can take it home with you that day including many of their bottles of bourbon. The tour starts out on a quick bus trip up the hill to a building where we are shown their Waterhouse or a building that covers a natural spring that comes down lime stone rock. The rock is important and that you will have to take the tour to find out. We continued into the grains used to make Jim Beam, then to fermentation and then distilling. At one point the tour guide "accidentally" spills white distilled bourbon onto a barrel to give you an opportunity to touch and smell it. We continue through to barrel dumping and then into the bottling line where we had the opportunity to create a commemorative bottle that we could pick up in the gift shop. We finished in the tasting room where you were given two samples and you we got to choose a third of the selection offered at the bar, then it was off to the gift shop to pick up my bottle. The Jim Beam American Still House offers a unique and in depth look into their bourbon making process, but still holding on to those proprietary recipes and some methods, but you get the overall gist of the process. It is a MUST DO stop if you are going to be in Kentucky and you love Bourbon; OR if you would love to the learn the history behind a product that is sold globally in 150 countries. read more

Out of all the distilleries we went to this was my favorite for multiple reasons. Terry was a fantastic tour guide first and foremost! We had a very small tour group and he really made it special. The grounds themselves are very lovely and were nice to sit out on and enjoy after the tour. The tasting room is very nice as well and there's a lot to do and see. They have a very modern way of approaching tours while still attending to daily business which was very nice. He was great. This tour shows an active working distillery. Different from the other distillery tours. We had lunch at the cafe. And then did a cocktail class with Elizabeth (our tour guide , Chris?, sister). She was fun. We made a blackberry smash. A delicious drink. I added extra fruit and my hubby didn't. We missed the tasting experience. We showed up 30 minutes before closing. It was unfortunate. The experience to visit and look around was great. The campus is out of this world large. I purchased some small sample bottles to take back to the hotel room and sample. It turned out better to have our own private tasting at the hotel room. I've NEVER tried Jim Beam EVER!!.. I enjoyed the samples that I had. I will now see myself purchasing a bottle of my likings. The apple and fire were my favorites. I did enjoy the bourbon as well. Located in the most beautiful hills of central Kentucky, is home of Jim Beam. You can smell the sweet fermented brew the minute you drive up pass the first barn. Ahhhhh. The grounds are lovely and immaculate. Through the gift shop you can purchase tickets for the tour and tastings ($14) or you can opt for a free self guided tour. We chose self guided tour as we had limited time. The path is well marked and beautiful. Framed by mountains lies the homestead. Beyond the yard are the buildings of fermenters and the famous distillery. An exhibit of early jugs and equipment follows. But my favorite exhibit was the barrel making exhibit. Did you know, there is no waste in the production of barrels? And finally the building where the aging process takes place. Everything is immaculate. Just incredible. The gift store carries a number of Jim Beam specialty items. Shirts, recipes, bar tools and of course the bourbons. Up stairs you can purchase drinks. There is also a small restaurant which was closed during our visit. This is a must stop on your way through Kentucky. Can't believe I waited so long. Loved it. read more

We ordered crispy Brussels sprouts, pork empanadas and a pizza with a couple cocktails. The basil & olive oil old fashioned was excellent, and the bartender shared the steps and ratios to make the basil simple syrup. Outstanding late afternoon activity!!
