This place is definitely tucked away in a little area in Escondido but had a lot to offer. So. Much. Space. I was blown away with how big the space was. There are plenty of options for indoor and outdoor seating. All street parking but ample amount. I've been to other James Coffee locations and have always enjoyed the experience but there was a certain spark missing from the baristas, which to me helps bring the customers back consistently . The coffee here is outstanding, the baristas really take their time on each order and make it worth the wait. The honey cinnamon latte is my favorite and get it every time. The pastries are also super good and they switch it up frequently so there's always new ones to try. The vibes inside the shop are super cool and the entire staff there are so friendly every time. I am so disappointed. I absolutely love James Coffee in North Park, so I hope things can be improved moving forward. I get excited to patron and support independent coffee spots that set up shop north of San Diego. I'm the kind of person who will drive an hour just for good coffee and pastries, so it was a treat to hear that James Coffee opened close to home. Everything I love about James Coffee - the high quality brewing, inviting atmosphere, kind staff - was missing. I ordered a large iced oat milk honey cinnamon latte in the jar, and it tasted...off. Perhaps the beans were burned, but it had bitter notes that is not typical of the quality at James. It did seem to take awhile to get my drink, but it was a busy time of the morning (10am on Thursday), so I won't be too harsh here. The customer service might have been the nail on the coffin above all else. The staff seemed uninterested in engaging in conversation. I saw a fresh batch of Farmer's Market Focaccia come out and badly wanted to order one, but the staff seemed annoyed to deal with customers, so I figured it best not to waste more money. I was taken aback when I got my coffee because the barista stared me down. I was the only customer in the entire shop wearing a mask, so I don't know if that was why. I told her to have a nice day and she just walked away. It was overall a really weird and off-putting experience. I most certainly will not be coming back to this location, but hope that my review can be helpful in any way. read more

Was in town for vacation and chose this place mostly at random- it was an excellent choice! the staff were super friendly and more than happy to give us local dinner recommendations. tried both their normal lattes and the mexican mocha and both were excellent. The normal latte had a good depth of flavor that you cant get at chain places like starbucks. the pastries were incredibly tasty. we tried the basque cheesecake and cardamom pastry. the cheesecake mustve opened my third eye or something because the richness absolutely blew us away. the cardamom bun did the same. not sure if they make them in house but either way its excellent. would definitely go when in town again! read more

New Escondido location for James Coffee Co. I came in early just as they opened the store and there wasn't really many people yet, so I took the opportunity to take photos of the place. The place was clean and welcoming, the crew were busy but very friendly and accommodating. I want to try their brewed coffee and wanted it to go so they offered me the to-go coffee jar that cost $1.50 I think which can be returned for a refund if you decide to not use it or keep it. I think it's a cool idea to have and to save disposable coffee cups and helps the environment. They have shelves for coffee products and merchandise as well. They also have plenty of pastries that looks tasty. Maybe I'll try it on the next visit. read more

I came to this coffee shop on the recommendation of my dad (who is a Huge coffee buff). As such, I had high expectations. This place did not disappoint. I ordered the peppermint latte and an almond croissant; I have had many an almond croissant and when I say this one was the most buttery, crispy, and flavorful one I've ever had I'm being 100% serious. The coffee was beautifully made; the peppermint flavoring blended SO well with the espresso. Also, the employees all were having a good time, which is always cool and adds positive vibes to a place. Great music choices too! I will absolutely be going again. One thing to note: parking is pretty difficult. You will have to either be really lucky and get a spot right outside, or be okay with walking :) read more

I have been to James Coffee on multiple occasions since writing my first review in April 2024. The staff here have taken plenty of measures since then to greatly improve the customer experience and address the product quality. As of now (September 2024), I have been told that James is resuming serving pastries baked in-store. They are also offering many fun additions to the menu--seasonal drinks, apparel, beverage 'accessories' (mugs, metal straws, etc.), customer loyalty discounts, e-mail marketing campaigns, and more. Both Bri and Bell have done a phenomenal job steering the Escondido store through some turbulent times, and despite this, have done a tremendous job providing a pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere for their customers. As I sit here today eating a delicious warmed almond croissant and drinking an iced mocha, I feel much better about the James Coffee now than I did when I first wrote this review. Because of the care and compassion that has gone into this business from April to now, I am gladly updating my review of James Coffee in Escondido. Location was RESLLY hard to find. There was no signage or tables outside. We passed it a few times thinking the building was abandoned. There is a small black logo on the building... that you csnt really see because its on a black backgroung ‍‍.
