Stopped by Kettle on Grand after the gym because I wanted something with protein and a little bit of carbs. I ordered the breakfast burrito and a vanilla iced coffee with oat milk. This place is always busy, but I somehow always manage to find a table. Just a heads up, you order before you sit down. The person taking my order was also making drinks and did a great job keeping everything moving. My only surprise was that the breakfast burrito seemed to have sausage in it, even though the menu listed turkey bacon, eggs, and cheese. Although I've been coming here for a while, I Did not have a good experience the last few times. Very poor staffing on a busy Saturday. There was a floral event that was being set up too. Drink orders were backed up and my order was skipped - I didn't receive my full order of avocado toast that I paid for and wasn't able to talk to anyone about since the staff was stressed. I checked out Kettle on Grand recently for lunch and found it to be a charming establishment. I visited the location on Grand Avenue in Escondido; there is another location in Fallbrook. The shop looks really nice inside, thoughtfully decorated, albeit somewhat uncomfortable chairs. I elected to sit at the bar but still had to order at the counter, that's ok. I was given a number sign that was never retrieved. Service was satisfactory, yet somewhat impersonal. I was there for about an hour, watching lunch time service unfolding. They were nice and busy but not suitably staffed for the orders it seemed. Everything just happened at a rather slow, methodical pace. I did observe a few patrons come up to the counter inquiring about their orders and complaining the soup was cold. I ordered the "California Club" sandwich, made with turkey, bacon, swiss cheese, avocado, tomato, red onion, pesto and mayonnaise. Comes with your choice of soup or salad. The sandwich itself was good overall. An appropriate amount of sliced turkey, tasty, crispy bacon on a substantial, dense bread with a nice chew. If there was avocado, it was completely indiscernible. Maybe it was smeared in with all the green pesto, I don't know. The salad was tasty, although haphazardly presented and excessively dressed. Since this place offers wine, I had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. It was served in an elegant, tall stemless glass, unfortunately at room temperature. There is one restroom here, somewhat unkempt. In summary, a nice neighborhood spot with a classic coffee shop vibe. read more

With ample seating indoors and a dog friendly patio set up, who could want more?! The ladies at the counter who helped my husband and I were very nice and friendly. The menu was extensive and they even had holiday drinks for the winter season. I ordered a white peppermint mocha and my husband the toasted marshmallow mocha. We both gravitated more towards the peppermint mocha for the well balanced chocolatey minty coffee flavor. Super quiet Cafe! I've never been to a cafe that's so so quiet. I almost feel bad to sneeze . But I do love a place to chill and have a quiet time. This place is dog friendly as there's a water bowl inside the cafe there are also coffee inspired merchandise for sale. On the menu there are alcohol beverages, pastries and cakes too. I ordered a turkey pesto panini, comes with coffee of soup or salad and a latte. My pretty latte came very quick. It was smooth, fragrant and rich with no sour aftertaste - the way good coffee should be. The panini is well grilled. Cheese is Swiss. Tomato soup is tangy and refreshing. Love it! read more

I love the decor with their brick walls and plants coming down the walls. Service was good. I ordered at the register and was given a number to take to a table of our choosing. We had to wait for the drink to be called to grab from the counter and they brought the food to us when it was ready. I tried their mocha with a bagel. Bagel was good however I felt it needed something extra for flavor or more bacon. Their avocado toasts looked really good but they only have an in-house made sourdough bread and I'm not a fan or sourdough. Overall a good experience having breakfast here with friends. read more

I live less than 10 min from here, I kept seeing instagram posts and had to come check it out. I met a friend and we were both a little disappointed. We ordered the same avocado toasts which in my own opinion, I could have made 10x better at home. Especially for that price, I think they might have been short handed because we waited for our food for about 40 minutes then they forgot about my latte so I had to wait an additional 10min to get mine. The place is cute, but my chair was touching the girls behind me and everyone one of us had to get up the other had to also get up... a little odd, also they had a few pieces of clothing hanging up but it looked like used clothing and it didn't have any sign for sale. My only complaint is that the service is super slow and they usually have one employee working at a time so you need to be patient when you come here. I came on Friday 9:30am and it took 25 minutes to get my coffee cuz there were so many customers and 1 barista. My food came out in about 10 minutes. It's a cute ambience in here if you have time to hang out or work from laptop. They even have a table for group of 12-14 to meet up. Every weekend there is bottomless mimosas for $50 for 2 hours. That's a separate, though related issue, that's still being challenged as a potential ADA violation.) Afterwards, I checked my receipt and there was an additional 50 cent charge next to the word ice. What? I didn't order a large, so that would not be an excuse. A $5.50 drink ended up costing $7.61 after all the fees were added. To be clear, I have a choice. I got the EMC and I added avocado and the cook put a dark brown avocado, and my açai bowl was literally liquid and I kindly let the cashier know that I wasn't happy with either my sandwich or my açai. I only wanted a refund on the açai because I ate the sandwich. They remade my açai, but it was rock hard and with granola when I didn't even want granola I had no option for a refund, and I really felt unheard. My kindness was taken advantage of today. I spent the worst $53 of my life and I tipped and this is how I get discarded. Business was slow. I asked for my breakfast sandwich with egg whites. They told me I couldn't have egg whites so I asked if I could get a panini a la carte. They said sure but charged me for the meal. When I came back in to ask why I was charged for the meal, they told me they can't just charge me for the sandwich only. So because I couldn't get egg whites, I needed up getting a full meal that I didn't want for breakfast and paid $4 more dollars than I would have for the thing I wanted. I don't know what's happened in the last year, but the coffee now is ABYSMAL. I thought the last 2 lattes were just off-days, but I got the same watered-down excuse of a latte today. And it was the same barista that made it. My Vietnamese coffee shouldn't taste like you just put nonfat milk into some basic coffee. It's strong coffee with sweetened condensed milk. I didn't taste either of those things. Just bland, diluted coffee. The latte tasted the same. Barely any flavor of espresso or syrup. My partner experienced the same disappointment the last few times we got coffee here. They did not call out the name when it was ready. They were too busy talking next to us. Who cares if someone is waiting for their coffee I guess. Even at my job I call out names twice. Then the server literally threw the plates on the table and left. No specifying who gets what. No offering utensils, napkins, no asking for anything else. My toast wasn't even cut in half. I wish I could get my tip back. This was the worst service and coffee I have ever had.
