Pretty good fried shrimp! I ordered the 10 medium shrimp lunch and was very satisfied. The batter had a good amount of seasoning and so did the French fries. I wasn't a huge fan of the tartar sauce, however I appreciate that it was homemade! Just a bit on the sour pickle side. Looking forward to going back to try other items. It was alright. They give you lots of fish which is nice, but the macaroni salad was nasty and fries just ok. They literally throw a piece of bread on the plate. White bread just yuck. I won't return.. we got snapper. Again wasnok but nothing to wrote home about. read more

The catfish was decent, the tartar sauce, hush puppies and macaroni salad was actually really good. The fries were average and the pieces of bread were just pieces of bread. The low rating is mostly for the location of the establishment. I Stopped by James Fishman while on vacation and would not recommend to anyone visiting Los Angeles. A cautionary tale to remember is the tragic story of the late rapper PnB Rock and his visit to Roscoe's chicken and waffles while in L.A. If you don't know who that is feel free to google him. Based on what I saw, it was a subtle reminder that L.A. isn't just palm trees, beaches, and celebrities. Some of the rougher locations around the city, as sad and unfortunate as it might seem or just for locals and locals only... and I'm fine with that. Love the face they open earlier then most fish markets, but they stingy with additional tarter sauce or hot sauce they charge for that. I prefer to call in orders to avoid the wait. This fish market is good! I always get the catfish and it never disappoints. The flavor/seasoning is just the right balance and the cook on the fish is perfect, wasn't super greasy either! The main reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is because the only good side they have are the fries in my opinion and if they're not fresh then don't bother. Annnnd they give you Mexican hot sauce but sell Louisiana hot sauce by the bottle! Mexican spots don't give you Louisiana hot sauce with your food, they give you salsa/taco sauce, they should serve the right hot sauce is all I'm saying lol. Food is a little pricey, but everything was prepared well and delicious. I don't eat this kind of food too often, but it takes me back to my childhood of enjoying fried fish either from the fish market, or when my dad would come back from fishing and my mom would cook whatever he brought back. The food was seasoned well from the catfish, sole, shrimp, and oysters. The fries were average (not bad, but just ok), and the Mac and cheese was alright as well. My only real knock on this place is the price. I haven't been to a fried fish place in a while, but man, I guess inflation forced their prices up as well, which isn't their fault necessarily, but it still seemed a little high.
