This place has been around from what I can tell from the locals, but I wouldn't know as this was my first visit here. Location: in a shopping center across the street from Dignity Stadium in Carson. Plenty of parking although shared with other businesses. Food: I got the #1 lunch special with your choice of fish and two sides. I chose to go with french fries and hush puppies although I probably should've gone for the potato salad instead of the hush puppies. The catfish was perfectly fried, well seasoned and not overly fried. The fries were slightly salty, but crisp and not soggy, which was a godsend, especially coming from mom and pop shops. My one gripe with this whole dish was the hush puppies. Although nice and crisp on the outside, they were kind of small and I only got three hush puppies.3!!!!! if you're gonna give me small hush puppies at least give me a decent amount not just three. And if you're gonna give me three at least make them.bigger than the size of a gumball. While there is no seating on the inside and no AC, the service was good although the pick up system was a bit confusing for some of us. The smell of frying foods in that small shop can be overwhelming for some and a couple of us walked outside the door just to get some relief from all that oil smell. No drinks are offered here, so bring your own. Strictly a pick up and go shop, so if you're crunched for time, call your order in. Pricing is better than most, although considering what I got, I think I should've gotten more out of those hush puppies. I called and reported the issue. They said normally I would need to bring all the food back to get a refund. But who calls to report stale fries? Thr bread didn't seem fresh either. One of the "jumbo" shrimp was tiny, and the fish is not the same size as before. I spent $44.23 on this meal, and for that price I expected the same quality and size they've always had. I will say the food seemed less oily than before, but something about the taste and flavor feels different now maybe a new recipe or a different cook, I'm not sure. I've been a loyal customer of Family Fish Market for over 10 years+. For most of that time, this was my go-to spot, and I would visit at least once a month. However, last year's visit left me disappointed, and today confirmed that I will never return. I ordered the 20-piece shrimp and tilapia combo with coleslaw, red snapper (fried hard), and macaroni salad, as well as a side of fillet. Unfortunately, the quality has completely gone downhill. The shrimp and tilapia were salty, soggy, and overly greasy. The fries, which I specifically asked to be crispy, arrived limp and soggy. The macaroni salad tasted sour, and the fillet was both fishy and salty. While the flavor was there, the overall execution and quality were severely lacking. It's heartbreaking to write this because I absolutely loved this place and used to rave about it. But after today's experience, I've decided to take my business elsewhere. This was one of my favorite spots until this saturday around 12pm. I ordered (2) combination plates at $20 each and 1 pd of Jumbo Shrimp totally $70. Actually, I prefer to come to this market instead of going to Anne's fish marked down the street because FFM almost always have catfish tail in stock and when Anne's would have it, they would say "oh we can't sell you the tail because we have a customer that likes to buy the catfish whole" (crazy. I know) Anywho, Family Fish Market used to be so flavorful and delicious however after my purchases in the last few months and most importantly, this week, I don't think I will be purchasing from there any longer. I ordered by phone a Fried Catfish tail dinner that came with 5 pieces (that's a lot and I love that part) and I asked for it to be cooked hard which means fried a bit longer, maybe 5 minutes longer. Then I was told it would take about 20 minutes. Well I arrive to pick up my order 35 minutes later and it's not ready. Ok, no worries because good food takes time right? Cool so I wait...and wait...and wait and I don't end up leaving the store until at least 45 minutes after I placed my order...ridiculous. With my catfish, my sides were French fries and macaroni salad. I promise you everything was bland as if salt never touched any of my food. Not the fish fry, not the French fries and not the macaroni salad. Nothing had seasoning which is disappointing because the fish was fried to perfection! This spot used to be my go to fish place at minimum of once a month and occasionally twice a month. However the last three times the fish hasn't been cooked correctly. They overcooked the fish. The shrimp, unless you order the jumbo shrimp, you are given small size shrimp that barely look like shrimp. Also, in addition to the food being overcooked, you're missing items. I do hope that they fix their issues because I really did enjoy their food up until now. They have a great location, (sure they could use a facelift as it is a little outdated) which is only going to get busier with the upcoming Olympics as they are right across the street from the dignity center where a lot of athletes will be training. I have turnover in the staff. I'm not sure if that's the problem or whether they're under a different management. But I really hate to see a neighborhood business slip on the quality.
