As we are getting my mother-in-law acclimated to the Filipino diaspora in Southern California, my wife and she have been making the rounds of the various Filipino grocery stores. Seafood City as a brand of Asian supermarkets, has spread to Chicago so she was familiar with the name. They made a quick stop at the location in Carson on a weekday. They noticed that the deli had cebuchon available (not always the case), so picked up half of a roll for $17.99 a lb (a pound and a half worth), to bring back for our dinner. The location is not as big as the one in Chicago, but there are many locations here in SoCal, and it doesn't seem to get as crazy busy as it can in the Chicago location. Cebuchon is a type of Filipino style roasted pig (lechon), focusing on the pork belly, rolled, flavored and slowly roasted...originating from the province of Cebu (hence the name). It's not that common, and my mother-in-law remarked that she has never seen it sold at a grocery store before. By the time we got to eat it, the skin had become very hard and crunchy and inedible in some parts....this is a dish best eaten as soon as it is finished being prepared. But it still made for an elevated meat dish that all of us enjoyed. It was too much for the three of us to consume in one day. The next day, we used it as the piece-de-resistance for servings of instant tonkonsu ramen...along with the added hard boiled egg, it made for a good bowl of ramen, even if it started out as instant. read more

This Seafood City felt like it was a lot bigger than some other ones I have visited, so I was overwhelmed and went a little overboard and threw a ton of items in the cart. My only complaint is that I couldn't take ice cream because home is so far away. Bakersfield needs a Seafood City and I know our Bakersfield Filipinos are jealous. They have all the kitchen essentials here, everything a Filipino kitchen needs to function. They even have the starter packs in the produce area for everything you need to make certain dishes to make sinigang or other soups. The produce always looks really good and I can't complain, some Asian stores sometimes have bad looking veggies, but anytime I have come they are all good. My favorite thing to shop at seafood city definitely has to be the variations of longanisa, the canned goods and all the different types of noodles. If you never been then you should check it out. I always tell my non Asian friends/coworkers that this is comparable to the Filipino version of Vallarta. read more

Seafood City in Carson is the location we frequently visit. The place typically has everything we need. We went to several seafood markets today, 12/31/25 looking for clams and they were the only market who had clams! The staff is friendly and helpful. They offer many Filipino items with prices that are at times cheaper than the smaller mom and pops markets in the area. Clean and organized too. Located in a plaza with many other Filipino restaurants so it's a one stop shop! Free parking. read more

I can see why the market has low star rating. First the grill when you asked for soup only and rice. No meat they charge you a whole combo! 11 dollars and change. It's ridiculous!! Produce is not the freshest at this location atleast. Only a few will charge a reasonable price 6 dollars just for soup and rice. Literally soup nothing more. Plus when you let them know nicely one of the specific ladies is rolling her eyes. I think her name is Joan. That's what it says on the receipt. Horrible Dining tables are never clean. It's disappointing cause it makes the whole grill city look messy and just not a pleasant place. Then another older couple ordered. Same problem. They didn't want the food and canceled it completely. I've been frequenting SFC for my fruits and fresh fish and crustaceans. Fresh fish and calamar, live shell fish and oyster. A here's a secret treat. They will fry your fish selection to the doneness you want, with or without salt regular or extra crispy. Pampanos, rainbow trouts. Atlantic mackerel. Fred anchovies, red snappers, live shellfish. Best of all they serve two for one breakfast with two eggs, fried garlic rice and your choice of one or two condiments If you haven't tried the fresh I strongly recommend you to try. read more

This is The Icon of Filipino food shopping; from freshly fried fish to arroz caldo in their Grill City! BTW, their arroz caldo is just as good but so much cheaper than their neighboring bakery... hint! hint! All of the other stores make this a true Filipino Community, with a slight palenke vibe. I've even met people from many years ago and from recent trips abroad... So, it's also an impromptu meeting place for old friends friends & acquaintances!=o) Yes, you will find just about everything here, unless of course they run out or it's illegal like the preservatives & food coloring recently imposed... This is Little Manila and I'm proud to have the food stores & restaurants representing the Pinoy way & life... They honestly need an upgrade to this place. I've been to other Seafood City and this one definitely needs a makeover! Asian markets usually has "that smell" because of all the seafood we have but it's definitely has that scent strong here. The two star reviews I've seen seem to be pretty accurate. I'm going with three since my experience wasn't as bad as theirs. I wandered in hoping for some fresh calamansi and hoping they'd have some good produce prices. I got neither. It's been a little while since I've been in to a Seafood City and this one seems crowded and smaller than other locations. Customer service- If that's what you want to call it. Aisles are blocked by stocking without much thought to how it can interfere with customers shopping. At checkout, I was automatically charged for a bag even though I had my own and they didn't bother to ask if I needed a bag. Maybe I'm just not the right color since the cashier ignored me to chat with the person in line behind me. Prices- Higher than what I'm used to at similar stores. While they do have some harder to find items, the prices overall aren't great across the board. Quality- Produce seems to be second rate quality, like lots of little scratches and bruises, even deep scratches and mold. Lots of wasted plastic for packaging items that don't need to be in a tray with plastic wrap (like bell peppers). Parking was okay, oddly lots of people sitting in their cars and lots of people smoking. If you need a hard to find item, maybe it's worth going here, but otherwise, I'd seek an alternative. read more

My husband and I came here to get some Halo Halo. DO NOT GO HERE!!! This place is a cleanliness nightmare! Floors are sticky, the foul odor is pungent, and the kitchen is filthy. The ordering is absolutely chaotic with little to no order. When they finally asked my husband for his order, the lady was irritated because he only speaks English. He asked for 2 halo halo and she huffed, rolled her eyes and was so rude and initially told him no after she just handed 4 halo halo to a fluent filipino right in front of him. Shortly, She told him to go sit down with no clear indication if our order would be filled. Needless to say, we were pissed. We left and went to Tita Celias down the street. This place is convenient and has lots of options. For the most part, we stoped in a few times mostly to grab a meal because we just lacked the time to cook. Sadly this is the closest Seafood City near Lawndale. I find that their produce is a hit or miss. They don't stock the sitaw/green beans often and the staff are somewhat clueless. I'm not a fan of writing ok or bad reviews. As I too have my own business and understand being an entrepreneur. I had the chicken curry and it's way too salty missing the coconut milk. I had other prepared food and it's been too salty. Mybe the cook doesn't taste their own food? So my verdict here is go to Tita Celia or Manila Sunset. The food is worth it there. I'm so thankful that compared to NY, there are an abundance of stores here where I can shop for non-Western ingredients. Seafood City is great for Filipino groceries and I'm glad that the Carson location is a short drive away. That said, I've found the supply/stock to be unpredictable and the aisles/store is not always kept tidy and clean. You also need to check the expiration dates because their inventory management is not great. If you know what you're looking for then great. But I would not recommend anyone unfamiliar with Filipino ingredients and products to shop here without help or guidance. read more

First and foremost the service in this place is horrible. If you ask them for help they act as if you are bothering them. I also hate how they block the aisles when they stock especially if the store is crowded. It makes it hard to get what y need and increases aisle traffic. Almost all the time while they are "stocking" the shelves are still more than half full. They should do stocking after closing time not while there are a lot of shoppers. The cleanliness of this store is utterly detestable and disgusting. It always smells horrible in the seafood section, looks like they only clean that part of the store once a week. It smells like rotten fish and other rotten seafood. The floors to there are almost always wet with black water. I wish the board of health would fine them for these disgusting conditions. Another thing that the board of health should cite them for is selling expired merchandise like milk and eggs. Yesterday I did some shopping and passed by the dairy refrigerators and saw a lot of expired bottles. I went on Jan. 17 yesterday and saw 3 bottles expired that day. My friend who came with me yesterday bought some eggs only to discover when she got home that they expired 4 days before which was the 13th. Her father came to return them this morning with the receipt and the jerks still wouldn't take it back saying they needed to see her credit card. WHY DO THEY NEED TO SEE HER CARD FOR IF THEY ALREADY WERE PRESENTED WITH THE RECEIPT AND ESPECIALLY THEY SOLD AN EXPIRED ITEM?! Only if you do not have a receipt and a legitimate reason is when they have a valid reason not to take it back. That's totally corrupt and BS what they did. They are just money faces. I'm never shopping here anymore, same for my friend. This isn't even our go to Filipino market. We prefer the mom and pop or family owned Filipino stores in Carson. They don't even have a complete line of traditional Filipino foods. We only come here once in awhile to this overrated supermarket. "True Filipino Goodness" my foot!! Wanted seafood for your dinner? Well, this is it. There are all kind of fishes from small to the big one on display. Shrimp looked so fresh and as the fishes. What impressed me the most was they have services here that they would clean and cook for you too. Some of the items here were a little higher compared to other markets, but the prices were also practical. The seafood areas were adequately and well kept. My boyfriend and I came to this place this past Sunday because we happened to be in the area and we enjoy browsing at grocery stores (lol). This market smells super PUNGENT and I grew up going to 99 Ranch, which says a lot. It reeked of fish and it made me actually gag when we got closer to the fish section. The store has two small food court style restaurants and nothing looked appetizing. The store itself was very cramped and disorganized. For example, snacks such as cookies and crackers were placed right next to the "fresh" fish.... That's so disgusting. Also, as we were walking through the aisles, we witnessed an employee litter! He had a straw wrapper in his hands and just chucked it on the floor and since he noticed we saw him, he picked it up immediately. The employees here were pretty strange and seemed a bit tortured. No one looked happy to be working there. Thankfully I never need anything from this place. If you need Asian groceries go to literally any other Asian store. Avoid this place!! read more

I love it here, so many varieties of seafood and fresh at that!! I love coming here and seeing all the Filipino snacks and fruits/ vegetables. They have their own kitchen area where they make their own in house meals. I've only tried the lumpia from there but the fried squid is next on the list. It feels like home when shopping here and I can easily ask one of the workers what are the best veggies for sinigang - but don't worry to those who don't know they also sell prepackaged veggie set!! At this time got what I needed and got in line, one people are so rude and try to cut you (not the stores fault, just the lack of manners from people) but the cashier was super friendly to the mother and daughter in front of me and little small talk. They have beautiful produce and the fish market carries many fresh fish, a lot you can select yourself which is pretty cool. They have some of the best, thickest cuts of pork belly too.
