I was recommended to Dr. James Anthony by my dermatologist at Kaiser. I met with him for a consultation and knew he was someone special! I remember thinking to myself, "this feels right"..the perfect mix of professionalism, superior knowledge with a warm, kind and patient bedside manner. Initially, I was looking for a plastic surgeon to remove a growth on my eyelid. After discussing my eye situation, I asked "so what would you do with my face at this time (if anything)?? He proceeded to analyze my face and tell me what he could do to refresh my appearance. After some deliberation with myself and my partner lol, I decided to do a deep plane facelift, upper/lower eye Blepharoplasty and liposuction on my waistline. It was important to me I work with a doctor who respects the natural anatomy of my face and body...someone who had experience working on men. I wanted to look refreshed...not like a different person or have that "surgery look". At first my partner wasn't on board, unable to look at things objectively...he was afraid I'd look like a different person and felt I didn't need anything done. I called Dr. Anthony's office and told Keara "I am having some trouble with my partner ". The next day Dr. Anthony himself called me and suggested we both come in for another consultation. He spent an hour or so with us discussing and illustrating what he planned to do for me, addressing any questions and concerns we both had. If you were like me, you probably have read through tons of reviews, feeling unsure where to go, and not knowing who's writing truthful reviews and who's trying to sink someone's rating. It's not a great process, especially when it comes to something as sensitive as plastic surgery. So, I asked one of my personal doctors who they recommended, and I was referred to Dr. James Anthony. That gave me the confidence to get in the door. And then we talked about what I wanted done, and you can see quickly why he's recommended by his peers. He's very honest and comforting, and I knew I was in good hands. Even when I started feeling unsure, that maybe I was jumping into this, he talked me through my concerns, and was very upfront about everything from the results, healing time, what I could expect over time, and we booked it. I am just about 6 weeks post op, and I honestly couldn't be happier with my results. I'm turning 50 this year, and was feeling way too saggy in the neck for how I felt for my age. We settled on a mini-lift and the blepharoplasty (eyelid lift) to give me an overall refreshed look. I was unsure about the eyelids, but he said it would heal very quickly and that it did, and it made a huge difference, one I wasn't expecting. The swelling is no joke, so you have to deal with that with just overall patience, but everyday you start chipping away at it, and you can then see how refreshed everything looks. I was extremely unhappy with my neck, and he did a really amazing job with tightening it up. I honestly can't believe how good it looks. Dr. Anthony completely and irreparably ruined my face. I went to Dr. Anthony for a facelift 8 years ago and it has taken me 8 years to write this review. I caution everyone not to go to this doctor. I do not think he should be working anymore. I think he has gotten sloppy and lazy. I went to Dr. Anthony for a face lift. I remember saying to him before going under, please do not ruin my eyes as they were my best feature. Well, I must have subconsciously prompted him to do so. He pulled the right side of my face tighter than the left. What is worse is he pulled my left brow noticeably higher than my right whereas he pulled the left lower lid noticeably lower than my right. He also damaged the nerve on the upper right brow so that lower side does not move as much as the left side - which makes for great personal expressions when the side the is already higher moves even higher! And, he damaged the lid on the lower left so that the movement when smiling or closing my eyes is markedly different from the right. He knew he had messed up as he would not even show me my before and after pictures and go over them with me. He did eventually send them to me. His suggestion was that I wear big glasses to hide my eyes. Literally, that was his suggestion. I cover up the mistake he made. I have spent 8 years going to other doctors who tell me that they can lift the right brow risking further nerve damage but there is no way to fix the lower left lid. I would stay away from this doctor. I think such neglect for precision and then such a nonchalant attitude of suggesting I cover up his sloppiness is something that should disqualify a doctor from practicing. read more

I went to Dr. Anthony years ago and had a good experience so I went back last year for a neck lift. Big mistake. He left me crooked, with drooping skin, and scars that were not just visible, but very uncomfortable. I looked older and worse after the surgery with him than I did before. He agreed with me when I showed him, even saying "you can't unsee that can you?" But when I went in to have a further discussion with Dr Anthony he didn't show up for the appt. I just waited in the exam room alone for more than half an hour before I had to leave. So I emailed him letting him know how disappointed I was and he replied by insisting that he can't control how someone heals, and that his work on my face and neck was exemplary. He did not offer to try to fix anything, but instead gave me the name of 3 docs that I should consider. I decided to do my own homework and found someone in LA to do revision surgery, and I am very glad I did. Not only was she able to fine tune the shape of my jaw line, the scars are now almost imperceptible. Her work showed me that technique and stitching make a big difference. And I have healed just fine....No more zippers on the sides of my face, or obvious redness behind my ears. I can wear a pony tail again. All thanks to her careful correction and revision.. Dr. Anthony in short is truly excellent. It has now been about 8 months since my surgery and I could not be more pleased with the results, but equally importantly with the entire process. Being confident with a surgeon who will be working on your face or body can be difficult to achieve, but understanding the specifics of what another patient has been through can be a big help. My husband had facial work done by Dr. Anthony before I met him, and he looked terrific! After 25 years or so, he had another "mini-lift" while we were together, so I got to see the recovery process first hand, and that greatly increased my confidence to have work done myself. I know a lot of people have preconceived notions of what a plastic surgeon does. You mostly think of someone who gives Britney Spears a tummy tuck, or you think of the horrors of too much surgery, or you think of the Cat Woman. For the last 15+ years, I have been plagued with an enormous chest---one that gave me years of back pain, shoulder pain, chest pain, arm pain. You name it. Aside from the physical discomfort, the insecurities that come along with DDD's are unimaginable. You walk with a hunch. You cross your arms all the time. Your girlfriends audibly gasp when they see you getting changed because the minimizer bra you were wearing unleashed these huge boulders. This is usually followed with a, "OH MY GOD, i cannot believe THAT is how big they are! You hide them well." When you speak in public, you can't really look someone in the eye, because part of the time, they aren't staring at your face, they are staring at your chest. And they don't even mean to. I've had people apologize when i catch them looking, and I understand....I'd gawk, too. Shirts don't fit. Ever. You may be a size 8, but you have to get a size 16 shirt. You get the picture. So you wake up one day, with your hunch and your physical therapy bills, and you have an epiphany: the puppies have to go. For years, women like myself wake up and say, "God, i just want these gone". I took the bull by the horns and made a visit to Dr. James Anthony for a breast reduction. He came highly, highly recommended, someone who has helped countless women, someone who is breath of fresh air. He greeted me with a calming smile. I always thought, "why do people get into plastic surgery?". And honestly, there are a lot of reasons. One of which is to help countless of people get over horrible insecurities and pain, like myself. So he checked me over, told me I was the perfect candidate. My body was literally hiding behind these things. His two right-hand ladies, Ann and Andrea, are hilarious and will also help answer questions and set you up with an easy post-op recovery plan. They even had low interest payment plans, if you are so inclined. The clincher, for me (besides Dr. Anthony's demeanor), were the Before/After shots of past clients. He was an artist. They were perfect representations of what I wanted to have: a small chest that fit my frame and that would not cause me any more pain, emotional or physical. The surgery itself was a dream. His team was hysterical; they will have you laughing for hours. He answered all my questions. He really gave me all the time I needed to ask and answer questions. Post-op visits were great and reassuring. He handles scar treatment really well. I really can't say enough about Dr. Anthony. My life has totally changed, and when I say a weight has lifted, I really mean it. I have read horror stories about botched breast reductions and I can only shed a happy tear that I chose the doctor I did. I feel like this is something that I wish I had done years ago, and I know there are some women sitting there thinking they should do it but feel like they can't. * Wow. A lot of activity since I originally posted this review. I find it odd that apart from the 1st reviewer and myself (2nd), no one else has more than 1 or 2 reviews to their credit. Hmmm... I'm surprised there aren't more reviews on this wonderful doctor! My dermatologist recommended Dr. Anthony when I told her I was considering surgery. She said he did fantastic work and I might want to check out his techniques. I already had consults with a couple other doctors and had decided on one. But since my derm is highly regarded in the medical community and she has seen a lot of his work on her own patients, I valued her opinion and thought it was worth consulting with one more doctor. So glad I did. Dr. Anthony has the most comforting bedside manner. From the initial consultation to the follow-up visits, Dr. Anthony demonstrated nothing but kindness and compassion. I came prepared with an entire binder full of articles, photographs, and questions (hey, I do my research). He was impressed and took the time to answer my grilling questions thoughtfully. He knew exactly what I wanted and I could tell after that first visit that he was the one. I did ask for a previous patient to call me and discuss her experience. She of course had nothing but glowing praise and couldn't recommend him enough. Naturally, I was nervous the day of surgery but confident in Dr. Anthony's skills. While I was trailing off to la-la land in the OR, my mom was all jittery in the waiting area. Dr. Anthony helped set aside her fears and explained the procedure. He even showed her some products he was carrying in his doctor's bag. The recovery process was rather easy for me (God bless Vicodin) and there have been no problems since. I should also emphasize that my surgery wasn't exactly straightforward. My case was a bit unusual which is why I was even more particular about choosing the most qualified surgeon. I had a terrible experience with this doctor. I didn't heal well from my initial surgery with him (not his fault or mine) and had to have a scar revision surgery. The surgery center attached to his office (Vista Surgery) charged me over $12,000 for the scar revision surgery and sent me to collections when I refused to pay them this insane amount. Dr. Anthony stopped responding to my emails and phone calls and completely disappeared. He wouldn't even respond to the lawyer I hired. In the end I settled with the collection agency and it cost me $9000. $9000 ON TOP of the cost of the original surgery!! Plus I had to pay for an attorney! Terrible, terrible experience. I wouldn't ever recommend him to anyone. read more

Dr. Anthony performed my breast reduction and did a fantastic job. If you've ever looked into this, you know that the many of the results posted on the web are a little disappointing (smaller, but saggy and weird). When you look through his before and after pics, you can see that when it comes to this surgery, he is truly an artist. I could have saved money by going to an in-network surgeon, but couldn't find anyone who had the same quality as per their before/after pics. I love my new look and found his bedside manner to be very warm and supportive. My only complaint would be that his office does not deal at all with insurance and the paperwork they gave me was unacceptable for my insurance company. It has been 6 weeks since my surgery and so far I am very pleased with Dr Anthony's work. As can happen with any surgery - some minor complications occurred. Dr. Anthony was very quick to react. I was nervous and anxious throughout the first couple of weeks of my recovery and Dr. Anthony was very responsive. If I called late at night - he called right back.
