This doctors office called me 1 hour before the appointment and cancelled an appointment that I was waiting for 8 months. They were asking me to wait another 3 months to meet with a different doctor while I am here dying from sickness. The person who called to cancel was so rude on the phone and refused to help finding an earlier appt. There guys are just in it for your money, they don't care if you die. Very unprofessional, I'm not a patient I am a small business owner and we did some work for him and he refuses to pay us! He called us for our services, we completed those services no problem and when he got our invoice for unknown reasons he will not pay us, he has hung up on me numerous times, blocked us and I have had to go to his office to try and get payment and he refused again! It's been 10 months now and still needs to pay us. It's under $500 too. So if you're a patient, Don't pay for your appointment because he doesn't pay his bills why should you?! read more

The doctors office switched my appointment from a virtual to an in person appointment, without notifying me. When I contacted the office approximately two hours prior to my appointment, the lady answering the phone stated that the doctor was moving away from virtual appointments, and that I needed to contact my insurance company to see if they would still be covering my appointment. When I originally scheduled my appointment, I requested virtual, and there was no mention of any of this. The office neglected to let me know ahead of time of any of this change. It was only during this phone call that I was notified. I told her if he was not able to do a virtual appointment for that day, but I would need to move my appointment to a different day because I would not be able to make an in person appointment on such short notice. She stated that was fine, and moved my appointment from December 4 to December 18 in order to be able to make an in person appointment. I received no follow up phone call about any kind of no-show, a fee, or even confirming the December 18th appointment. When I showed up to the office for my appointment on the 18th, they did not have me on the schedule and was telling me that the doctor had written me in as a no-show appointment with a fee for the December 4th appointment. I told her I will not pay the fee because the office was the one that switched the appointment without notification and it was lucky i had called in advance. It was not the fact that I did not show up. They also apparently neglected to schedule the appointment that they confirmed over the phone during the first call. I am beyond irate at the way I was treated and will never recommend this doctor or his office staff to anyone for any reason. Dishonest and Terrible business practices!! read more

My experience with Dr. Chu has been much different from that of the previous reviewers (especially the moron). He has been treating me for several years now and I greatly value his help. He has worked with me to get the correct (and more affordable) medications. And I am not the best patient. On my last visit I especially appreciated his directness when telling me again that if I want to lose weight (and significantly lower my blood sugar levels), I have to eat less. Seems simple but being busy, I hadn't been counting calories at all. And I had thought that I was eating less. I committed to reducing my food intake. When I did start counting calories, I found that I had seriously underestimated what I had been eating and am presently eating much less and more healthy low sugar foods. At that visit, Dr. Chu sent me out for current bloodwork and asked to have me drop by with my meter and have him check it in a month. IMHO, Dr. Chu is committed to his patient's good health. If you are also committed to your good health, he's a great doctor. P.S. he is not my friend. I go elsewhere for friendship. Dr. Chu is a professional doctor and that is why I asked if he would take me as a patient. I had to wait a year to see him. He is busy. read more

I have been seeing Dr Chu for about 2 years now, from pregnancy for gestational diabetes to post pregnancy. I have had a good experience. I like him because he listens, smiles, and gives good advice. I don't feel rushed and he answers my questions and will ask me if I have any more before he leaves. I feel he genuinely cares for my health to to make sure I don't get diabetes. I appreciate him. I am happy with my care. The office staff is friendly too and returns my calls promptly. read more

I never post on Yelp. Ever! But I would like to tell others about my experience with Dr. Chu so they can make an informed decision on which endrocrinologist they decide to use for their medical issues. I came to Dr. Chu after being referred by my primary to consult about hyperparathyroid issues. I came to my appointment and Dr. Chu wanted more bloodwork done, which I did. I came back about five weeks later. Dr. Chu said by the bloodwork, his diagnosis was hyperparathyroidism. I had an ultrasound taken by another doctor which I showed him on my phone since I didn't have a copy. He told me at that visit that he needed a different ultrasound since the one the other doctor ordered was not definitive. This was right before the holidays. After the holidays I called his office and said, "When do you want me to get the other ultrasound?" The office staff had no notes from the doctor for me to get any further testing. So I called a week later and said, "Look, I'd like to get this other ultrasound done so I can continue on address this issue!" I asked the staff to ask the doctor because they still had no notes. She put me on hold and got back to me and said the doctor wanted the old ultrasound I had taken in paper form since he didn't have a copy in paper form at the last visit. I asked them if they could call SimonMed and get that info. I thought it would be easy for them to get. She sarcastically said, "We don't have time to do that." So I got online, got the pdf, and emailed both female office staff and Dr. Chu and said "Here is my ultrasound you requested. Can you PLEASE let me know what you want me to do next. You mentioned you wanted another ultrasound. I'd really like to move forward in addressing my medical issues." Well, I've been ghosted! It's been a month now and they have not even bothered to get back to me. His bedside manner is rude. the female staff are rude, and I have no confidence he will ever get back to me. I do have to say the male staff member was very cordial and tried to help. But the other two girls I interacted with in the office couldn't care less. Someone should have followed up with me by now. I'm done. I made an appointment with Dr. Bashiri and will follow up with her. I will not be treated with such disrespect. I also told my primary care doctor how rude Dr. Chu was. He was surprised. I averaged out this rating. Dr. Chu is a 5 star doctor, but he works for a 1 star office. I have been a patient for going on 4 years now and I finally missed my first appointment. They informed me that I owed a 50 dollar no show fee. I said no problem, can I reschedule the appointment. They said no problem, we can get you in next week, but.....I had to pay the no show fee before they would schedule the appointment and I could not pay them over the phone, they wanted me to take time off work, drive to their location and give them the money and then take time off work again next week for the appointment. I like Dr. Chu, but I will be looking into getting my medication refills through my general practitioner since at this point, I know what I need and I will see Dr. Chu once a year instead of every 3 months. This decision will not effect their bottom line....money as diabetes doctors are in short supply and they will simply fill my voided appointments with some other source of revenue. I was referred to Dr. Chu by my OB/GYN when we went in for our first appointment at 9 weeks. I called that day, right after my appointment to schedule my appointment with Dr. Chu. I was told he was booked through the end of the year and they would have to get back to me and let me know when he could see me. I have called twice since then (no one answers, I have to leave messages), and no one has returned my calls. I am now 20 weeks pregnant. My baby is 100% healthy, so I feel fortunate I've had no issues. I won't ever go to this doctor after this lack of patient care. Honestly, based on the reviews here, I have to say I'm glad I didn't go in. I'll find another endocrinologist in the area I can go to. I don't mind a drive to avoid poor care and no other options. read more

Dr. Chu and his office staff are way below average. In the years that I was under his care, I must have seen at least 6 different doctors whom he hired to work in his office. Just as I would get used to that doctor, they would QUIT !!!!! After running into one of those doctors outside of the office , I was informed of pretty bad issues ! But it worked to my advantage to move on and find another endocrinologist. Unfortunately this town does not offer ANY good ones! His office staff is COMPLETELY INCOMPETENT ! I know it's business and that yes, it usually is about the money but come on....your patients are supposed to FEEL that! I am a former patient of Dr. Chu and I am appalled to learn that Dr. Chu refused to see someone who was 9 minutes late and who, at the time, was seeing him for throat cancer. Every. single. time. I had a long wait in the waiting room....and I am talking WAY longer than 10 minutes. Dr Chu was going to recommend a new form of insulin that is inhaled. He prepared a referral form for lung testing and told me to have this completed prior to my next appointment. I scheduled the testing at SVMH. The technician there was very surprised that this kind of testing was requested. This testing cost me approximately $700 in copay. When I had my next appointment with Dr Chu I told him that I felt that he should have told me the testing was going to be that costly. He told me he didn't order that testing and that I should go and complain to SVMH. I took more of my time and went to the business office of SVMH. They gave me a photo copy of Dr. Chu's orders and other documents confirming that they did what Chu ordered I brought this paper work to Dr. Chu and he denied it again and said he would look into it. He never said another word. No apology or anything. He never suggested the nasal insulin again. It cost me a ton of money. read more

This guy should be in a lab somewhere doing medical research -- he's got no business dealing with patients. Dr Chu alternates between condescension and full-on terrifying. He happily told me all the gory stories about what was going to happen to my baby because of my gestational diabetes but didn't even have the humanity to finish up the horror story with any reassurances. He also quizzed me on diabetes (asking if I knew the % for this or the glucose level for that) and was so proud of himself when I didn't know the precise answers to his questions. I called the CHOMP Diabetes group (who referred me to him) and they said that I wasn't the first bawling pregnant woman who had called to complain about him THAT WEEK. They get multiple complaints per week! I wouldn't recommend Dr Chu to ANYONE, but definitely not pregnant women. Being pregnant is hard enough and harder still when you add a scary diagnosis like gestational diabetes. Doctors should be caring and supportive--they shouldn't add to your stresses and fears. He was the only endocrinologist who could see me quickly enough to get in while I was still pregnant (he prioritizes patients from the CHOMP Diabetes group) but I've since changed to Dr Bassiri in Monterey for follow up, who so far is amazing. I only wish I could have worked with her during my pregnancy. read more
